I used to be in an anime club in Perth, but I left because I was too embarrassed about being NEET shit while they all had jobs or were uni grads. I don't like other people coming in my bedroom so I couldn't invite people over, which stopped me making friends. I also hate talking to people in real time on Discord or Facebook because it's stressful and I don't have enough time to think of a response that keeps up my fake personality. And since I'm a NEET I didn't have enough money to afford to go out often and do IRL things with other people. That resulted in me making no friends at all in 4 or 5 years.
Plus if everyone else there has been there for much longer than you and known each other longer than you, they're always going to be closer to them than they are to you. You won't get any of the inside jokes and you weren't around for any of the old memories, so you'll always just be a second-tier friend and never part of their inner circle.
I have never been anybody's else's best friend. I'm always their 4th, 5th or 6th best friend. I'm always in the circle just outside the inner circle. I'm the "backup friend" they go to when their real close best friends aren't available. And I got fucking sick of it and vowed never to be anybody's 5th or 6th best friend ever again.
