I know in Alice Springs, there's actually a by-law stating that if you hit an abo with your car, you should not stop to provide aid or check on them (as you have a high chance of being mobbed by any you left alive). Instead, it's not only legal to drive away from the scene and then call the cops once far enough away, but encouraged.
