Have any of you anons that live in Melbourne ever successfully contested a myki fine? I got a ticket on the train for not touching on and the guy said I would get a pass. Then a few weeks later I got a fine in the mail over it which is $229 due in a few weeks. This is fucking bullshit.

I recognise you Loading Bay anon.
You can't contest a fine where you are clearly in the wrong. What is your complaint? that the guy promised you he would go easy on you but then changed his mind? They will just laugh at that.

I only take my Learner Permit with me for ID and it has an old address I don't live at anymore on it. I've been fined a couple times but nothing has ever come of it since I guess it's too much of a pain in the ass to track me down.

I did the same thing and never heard anything about it until three years later state revenue took a bunch of cash out of my account using a court order.

SPER will get to it eventually, but if you don't drive there's not a lot they can do to you, the main thing they hold over people's heads is cancelling their license.

When I get some time Ima contact lawyer but here's the jist: got a fine for not having a concession card while travelling with concession myki.
WTF I'm not using a concession. Well I was, they all look the same now.
FOI request returned that they made them all the same to save money on printing.
I've been told all kinds of false things related to this like it tells you its a concession when you tap on. No it doesn't. Guards get this information when I tap on, I do not.
They say I can get it changed to an adult at the counter. No I can't. I can pay for a new one and they transfer the cash.
They say I can't get them without authorization at the counter. Then how do I have this?
They say it should be marked when it's sold. Then why isn't this one?
Where's the training information to teach me this?
So yeah there's some more probably but I'm so sick of this shit where I have to be an expert on all their shit because everything they do is made by some fat cunt whose been dealing with the system for 40 years and designed to fuck over scammers who are else experts in the system.
Going to find one of those 'weel take all your winning but only if you win' lawyers and see hhow far I can take it. Government websites have to be accessible to the blind. Fuck myki and their shit.

I bet the dude that told you that was indian. Telling dumb lies to avoid confrontation is pretty much the bedrock of their culture. They even do it in a professional context.

write a letter contesting the fine. Say that you touched on but the machine didn't register it, you explained this to the ticket inspector and he treated you rudely / lied to you etc. 9/10 that will work, for the other 1/10 just ignore the fine. Nothing will happen, trains are run by a private organization, not a public one. Worst that can happen is a black mark on your credit rating, but there are ways around that too.

Op here, I ended up just paying the fine. I have to make sure there's enough money on my miky and to touch on before getting on the train like a good goy now. I haven't come across another inspector yet. I work in the city and sometimes catch the train at 11pm. I guess they'd be working like 9 to 5 or something so you're probably safe outside those times
