I don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but there's this weird double speak with contracts against what HR and bosses think. Your contract might say 37.5 hours (not including lunch), but really you get in at 8am, leave at 5:30pm having a 30 minute lunch break at most.

Then as part of my job I will be randomly sent to a random mine-site for like a month in a row. I get days off supposedly for all the weekends/public holidays I miss, but in practice you get guilt tripped whenever you want to actually use them.

I studied at Sydney Con, tutor in saxophone/clarinet/flute. Yeah its good money but no way you could do it full time because of the amount of concentration involved. Even 20 hours a week is a huge load thats 40 one on one lessons every week. Also you only teach in term time. You dont need qualifications because its all contracted through private companies but they expect you to be able to play grade 8 level + on your main instrument. This is for band/orchestral classical instruments. Rock musicians don't get anywhere close to that money. Teaching guitar/drums is more like 35 an hour unless you have the jazz degree or are one of the top session guys.

I'm going to stay working as long as I can, I applied for DSP a year ago but I didn't return the paperwork in time so it was dropped. I'm also working a lot these days part time so I'm on about $5-600 a week, if I apply for DSP, I'll need to cut my hours to 15 a week, so will be about $250ish a week. The max you can work on DSP is 30 a fortnight. I've heard you actually have to wait a few months from applying to have it accepted.
