Fortunately for fans of Ivar the Boneless (played by Alex Hogh Andersen), it looks like the new leader of Kattegat will be sticking around for a while.
The mid-season finale of Vikings season five ended with Ivar taking control of Kattegat much to the annoyance of Lagerth (Kathryn Winnick), who seems keen to take him down.
The pair look set to go head-to-head in battle when the series continues later this year.

It's very hard to suspend disbelief when neither he nor any other character picks up on the fact that he's being openly cucked by Freydis like that

Its been a long time since Heimdallar came to our people and while I hear of a one eyed man walking the Forests of Bavaria around this time of year, I have not personally met him. Still we have our orders to survive and make a defense. Surely, if this Middle-World was to fall, than the Halls of our Ancestors would be next, the struggle must continue until all strength is spent.

Its so historically inaccurate at this point. Bjorn, Ivar and Ubba are all allies historically but are instead all portrayed as bitter enemies or worse traitors to their folks and customs. The Buddhist narrative is completely made up, probably because the writers think those handle idols have to be "Viking Buddhists" and not just Asatru, probably to a Vanir judging by the form, like Asatru didn't have dancing and stretching exercises like all other Aryan peoples, especially when there is record of Christians banning such pagan practices later. Even the Christ follower Alfred is portrayed as an imbecile when he should be portrayed as a philosopher and strategist using anything in his power to unravel the Danelaw while building forts and enforcing the Latin alphabet over the Saxon Runic one.
Heh, I guess its something to watch.

Just treat it as being set in a parallel fanfic universe or something breh
It is a piece of fiction after all and there's no way to enjoy it if you keep looking at it as some kind of historically accurate depiction. But whenever an NPC pleb goes "omg so they were diverse back den?!?!" on twitter or something it's rightful to redpill him like in ur post
I mainly enjoy the pro-white aesthetics of it though, specially that Gunnhild lass played by the icelandic olympic swimmer. By Odin's beard what a breeding specimen heh

I wasn't aware Norwegians had access to gasoline back then, I know of no liquid which would alight like that, that could be attainable to any culture back then. And even if somehow Ivar had found a rich bitumen outcropping to then filter and extract a purer clearer flammable liquid like that from, the whole process involved would be so costly in man hours that to just waste all this expensive liquid on burning some villagers.

I never saw the show. Do you have a screenshot of the liquid? You can make oil out of flax and fish, but these are more yellow than clear. Flax and fish of course would be well known to the vikings as they ate fish and made linen from flax. Then there is also lye, but I don't know much about lye.

Naphtha can be extracted from peat bogs but the process is time consuming though simple enough with simple wood works, any material gained from these processes probably wouldn't be wasted away though. As well bogs have been known to spontaneously combust like this video from Scotland and even when the topside fire is put out an underground fire can continue.

Welp, all things considered that was a pretty goshdarn friggin epic season finale rite dere imo tbqfh, could've done without the random non-white background extra prominently featuring in some of the shots for inexplicable reasons other than the usual virtue-signalling. Purely visually speaking though this was a true kinofest once more.
They shoulda teasered some more stuff/storylines for next season though, would be kind of shit if they regurgitated this whole ivar villain arc all over again or some shit along those lines
Also i really loved the final couple shots where they bookended the earlier scene with Ragnar sitting on top of that cliff looking over Kattegat but with Björn this time around. I also would have liked very much for the Floki arc to be resolved properly, maybe he actually survived that shit though and will reappear again next season when the settlement of Iceland takes off properly
Hopefully that aryan godess playing Gunnhild will sign up for de next season again aswell, her incredibly germanic physiognomy and screen presence make the show 80% better imo and unlike Mommygertha during her heyday she's not being portrayed as some kind of crazyass invulnerale mary sue rawwr u go gurrl thotmaiden and shit either
All in all this season was a marked step up in earlier seasons since Ragnar's departure imo, i'd rate it a solid 8/10 overall

In reality, Ivar did nothing wrong, him and the rest of Ragnar's sons seemingly ruled well and died well.
By the show though Ivar proved himself to be no King, he allowed a woman to make decisions for him, if he is King then it is his decision and nobody else for that is both the ability and responsibility of a King. By her word he named himself an Aesir, a proclamation which has no basis in Asatru, even unnecessary to his own goals and what drove more and more of his people against him, which caused him to slay a part of his kinfolk, needless and weakening his own position, lastly this woman whom he trusted betrays him and he loses his kingdom, not very Kingly, the chief fights for victory, his vassals fight for their chief.

True, but the writers obvously have no interest at all in history..
>No basis in asatru
I disagree. Kings were seen as gods, even priests were.
The only "magic" a man can practice is that of embodying a god. A common practice in traditional beliefsystems.
>Ivars mistakes
Yeah I was being a bit hyperbolic. It's more about my complete disinterest in every other character except maybe finehair and floki. They are all just going along with the events unfolding like NPCs you can't kill.
However the structure of Ivars kingdom would've worked just fine tbh. The only mistake he made was trusting frejdis after killing her child. Kings still need to be gods, even in pre-chistian societies.

Even a member of the Einherjar is no Aesir, can you show this not to be the case? My understanding as to why the Nordic Christian Kings list Odin as their ancestor is the same reason why Charles V listed Tyr as his ancestor and its because to them, those were only Earthly Germanic leaders once upon a time. Its the same reason why all Medieval Illustrations of "Tuisco, The Father of All Teutons" have the Tower of Babel in the background to keep with the jewish Torah story.

Ah you goys aren't doing spoilers at all den i take it
The thing with Ivar is that i keep thinking they wanted to do some weirdass cautionary tale with him being portrayed as some viking version of Adolf Hitler, hence the imagery they were going for with the arrangement of those flags at his "rallies" and shit. But yeah it's just one historically inaccurate big fanfic LARP at this point like i wrote earlier above

I didn't really mean it like that.
I meant it more in the traditionalist sense of faith.
Both Evola and Jung discuss this but in different terms. In Egypt the way you worshipped the gods was embodying their qualities and "becoming" them. I'm inclined to believe it was similar in old norse faith as most traditonal religions with a pantheon of gods share many traits.

(…) Although fans were devastated by his supposed death, it looks like he [Floki] could be returning to the show for season six.
Floki actor Gustaf recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight to discuss the show.
And during the conversation, he confirmed viewers haven’t seen the last appearance of Floki just yet.
He said: “[How we pick up with Floki] is something that must remain under wraps, because it’s so important and so emotional and so fantastic.”
Gustaf was then pushed further on whether Floki is actually alive in the show.
But he wouldn’t give anything away, as he teased: “Well, I can’t say… that would be a spoiler.”
