A wizard is never late. Nor is he early; he arrives precisely when he means to.

Tell me about Tolkien in modern literature. Do universities and colleges hate Tolkien? Have you seen any examples lately of his work being put down by liberals?

I saw pic related on /v/ a little bit ago-

>It wasn't written by an old, white man in the trenches of World War I.

Any more of this shit?

There's been a few of those. Honestly who cares, let them be plebs.

Tolkien's work speaks for itself. It's myth.

One of the awesome things about Arda and everything Tolkien devised, is that I find fans of his in every demographic and political ideology.

Even some hard-left SJW twats have admitted to having great affection for middle-earth and LoTR. This leads to them scrambling for every possible justification for making as many characters gay and/or brown as possible, and calling it "their interpretation" of Tolkien's characterization.

Meanwhile /pol/ holds his work and its derivatives up as shining symbols to invigorate and inspire, and as a reminder that the West has a beautiful and badass heritage. Take a look the next time someone brings it up, and watch just how ineffective Tolkien detractors are on that board.

Usually when people try to shittalk Tolkien, the only thing they can call it is "overdone." I think there's a thread still open on this board claiming that "Tolkeinish" needs to die in order for Fantasy to become great again.

Every time I run into someone calling it problematic for having been written by a white dude from decades ago prefaces it by saying they love his work–and to be fair, they usually back it up by showing what they know. It's just modern politics that's got them mentally cucked.

>old, white man in the trenches

He wasn't an old man during WW1, Bowie you idiot. He really does look a hell of a lot like a fat version of his father. He is right in that something as basic as Warcraft is a lot easier to churn out a hollywood film with, although still not easy enough, apparently. :^)

Not Tolkien, but I have seen people (ie. retards) try to shit on Lovecraft after they found out he hated blacks. Funny stuff. Anyway, for both authors, their work is timeless and speaks for itself. Anyone can read the originals for themselves to find out.

Really? I usually get the "He realized he was wrong later in life" argument

A classic. The thought that racism could be based on something other than hate is unfathomable these days.

I assume that quote is from the Letters from J.R.R. Tolkien. Which letter is it?

Or they mention that one letter where he took the piss of the natsoc regime. As if British shitposting isn't a thing.

Some think to cope with PTSD. But really, there doesn't have to be some kind of reason like that. Could just be an outgrowth of his obsession with languages and myth as I think he said himself.

There was another letter he sent to one of his kids, I think, saying he was disappointed with the nazis because he's pretty sure their actions were going to make anglo pride into a british taboo. And it did.

This is Tolkien's liberal face-saving passage:

''

It was Sam's first view of a battle of Men against Men, and he did not like it much. He was glad that he could not see the dead face. He wondered what the man's name was and where he came from; and if he was really evil of heart, or what lies or threats had led him on the long march from his home; and if he would not really rather have stayed there in peace-all in a flash of thought which was quickly driven from his mind.''

What? You would have preferred if the hobbit would have thought "gee, I wonder if this guy was really truly Evil to the bone– wait it's a sandnigger, of course it was evil"?

Sounds like the thoughts of a WWI veteran that likely saw plenty of dead soldiers laying there after a battle.

Dying for an ideology is pointless. You die for your blood, you die for you kin. That line is fairly accurate to what most British WWI vets felt, not just about their enemies, but about themselves.

I think it's just that some people just have find things like that to occupy their mind, as thinking about their life is either not necessary or not stimulating enough to do all the time. Sometimes those people find a few things they enjoy thinking about and build upon them as much as they possibly can whenever their mind is free. Some do it with science, some like Tolkien do it with art or writing, and way too many people do it with porn.

Some people are borne onto this plane of suffering and realize quickly that the sole means of drowning the suffering out is to create.

> after they found out he hated blacks.

Was there a, "Before," finding out Lovecraft was racist? It tends to be one of the first things people learn about him.
