This is the beginning of the end. Next they'll push off or make irrelevant the remaining Tolkiens. They'll peck at the Secondary World like vultures. It'll be a grand old time for the fucking kikes.

I can't help but think of this quote from another thread
>"Tolkien has become a monster, devoured by his own popularity and absorbed into the absurdity of our time," Christopher Tolkien observes sadly. "The chasm between the beauty and seriousness of the work, and what it has become, has overwhelmed me. The commercialization has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing. There is only one solution for me: to turn my head away."

Christopher Tolkein has given in to despair just like Denethor and Theoden did. Poetry.

And just like Denethor, you should NEVER forget his sacrifice. Judging him not by how he ended but everything he did before.
Denethor was a great man, a great steward, probably the greatest that Gondor ever had. A lesser man would have fallen long before he did. A lesser man would have lost Minas Tirith long before he did. He had more will than even Saruman.

Get ready for expanded universe novels. Here's a few ideas:
>New Shadow, remodeled to mirror current migrant crisis with the blame shifted to intolerant Gondorians who hate the orcs who's homeland they destroyed for no reason
>Galadriel's dyke phase with Melian
>toxic masculinity leading to the Doom of Mandos
>basketball Numenorians of Umbar

Denethor was described as pretty much the most kingly, most Numenorean man left in Middle Earth besides Aragorn, and perhaps maybe Faramir. As with many things, the movies didn't do him justice, and portrayed him as little more than a mad, narcissistic old man.
I reread the books this summer for the first time in nearly a decade (last time was in grade 7 or 8) and Denethor was one of the things that struck me most, because I'd completely forgotten about what he was really like, and the total assassination of his character seems overlooked in most discussions about what the movies did wrong.

This was inevitable. Chris is getting on in years & the Legendarium was doubtlessly a great source of stress for him.
Each one of us also knew that the entertainment industry was going to keep slavering for the chance to exploit Middle-Earth & Arda to their utter limits. To them, it’s just an IP goldmine. Another thread on this board makes a miserable prediction of a current-year rendition of LotR, and another poster says with clarity “we will live to see this”.
The best thing we can do is look away.

Yes. It was an important part of Denethor’s story, actually. The question was: Did Denethor really wrest control of the Minas Tirith stone away from Sauron? Or we’re all Denethor’s visions in the stone merely things Sauron was trying to intimidate him with?

Where are the good ol’ days?

The days have gone down in the West, behind the hills into shadow
Who shall gather the smoke of a dead wood burning?
Or behold the flowing years of the sea returning?’’

Oh, I know this one. Denethor's will wasn't strong enough to wrest anything from Sauron, but Sauron couldn't really control him through the Palantir, so he controlled what Denethor could see through it, and thus drove him into despair.

Lotro managed to show this by having him show your character the Palantir. Right after you end up defending Minas Tirith in a Bad End scenario that leads to the city falling, the Witch King killing Gandalf, Gothmog killing Denethor, and a Nazgûl kidnapping Pippin via Fell Beast.
But it was all just a vision and you actually end up riding into battle with the Rohirrim.

Is that the Witch King in the game? He looks more accurate to the book descriptions than the one in Jackson's movies. Does the game have anything to do with the movies, or is it based directly on the book? Are there niggers in it?

It is book based, though there is a bit of lore bending here and there in order to justify things such as playable beornings. Some stuff has been added however to flesh out certain regions that weren't touched up on enough in the books, such as Forochel and bits of Enedwaith. The Witch King usually wears his hood but actually has the whole "floating crown with burning eyes" look. Gothmog is a wraith in this game, clad in red robes with a backstory to make him stand out a bit more while giving him history with your character.

Forgot to mention that there are dark skin options depending on your choice of character origin, but not really niggers. Although you can make a hobbit with dark skin and an afro, and using the warden class you can become a literal spear chucker.
There are no black elves.

The mask/crown thing was pretty neat IMO, it Manages to give a face to an empty void.
I think they abandoned the idea of a crown hovering over an empty pair of shoulders for the same reason they didn’t include talking eagles or a four-legged dragon. Somehow they didn’t think they could tell the story with those elements without breaking something.

I didn't have a problem with the look until the remark of >>1276 and now I can't help but think it silly. It doesn't help he's such a clumsy buffoon in the movie (though the ringwraiths are clumsy near blind cripples in books, but adaptions really insist on making them badass).

funny you should point out that it's a mask. I was flipping through his history with Arnor in the Appendices of the Return of the King, and he's there described explicitly as "black-robed and black-masked" so I guess that's where the producers got the idea for that thing he wears in the movies.

I like the visual style of the movies a lot. Honestly everything in perspective, the original trilogy was fantastic. Even if everything wasn't 100% right, it brings out the same emotions in me the books do. Which is more than can be said for the Hobbit…or whatever hellish devices from the darkest corners of Morgoth's though they come up with next

The Fellowship movie is great in many ways, probably the best we could hope for from a movie adaptation. Must of the depth and weight is gone but that's to be expected. Things start to go a little wrong with all the weird joking and odd tone when "The Three Hunters" make their run across Rohan at the beginning of The Two Towers. The worst is how the the Battle of the Pelennor Fields was covered, fully indulging on the action and completely forgetting the significance of Aragorn's arrival.

Wow, how horrible would that be? ASOIAF already had plenty of sex scenes they could have adapted for GoT but that wasn't enough for them, they insisted on shoehorning random tits in all the time just to hold their idiot audience's attention through exposition scenes. And where the books vaguely hinted a character was gay, they threw in graphic gay sex scenes. I hate to think what they would do to Middle-Earth. At least ASOIAF was already somewhat degenerate to begin with.
