As a guy who's written quite a few (see: >>6874 , >>6871 , >>6870 , >>6739 ...and >>6801 and these ones too), it all starts with the right image.
After that, I'd suggest starting with single perspective dialogue, as in what only one of them says leaving the other to the mind of the reader as if he's filling in the blanks himself. Maybe have the self-insert remain as blank as possible.
Stories can be done, but I will admit they're harder than most and most people tend of write too much, especially for stories. People are here to read and jerk off, not just read.
As for editing, take colors from the image itself and use a good font. Letteromatic is a good safe bet, but don't be afraid to experiment. The font should be welcoming yet legible.
