So, I just finished off the series Viper's Creed. It's a mecha series focused on a group of mercenaries who are tasked with protecting the floating city, Fort Diversity, from left-over automaton weapons that are still active after WWIII has come to a close. Where they combat these mindless drones is across the highways that connect the city together because the water is too polluted for any vessels to traverse. However, this is just the setup for the series, as the anime has two "main stories" across its 12 episodes. The first half is about each of the individual members of the team and their backstories with each episode giving a specific character attention. The second half of the series is where things takes a twist as a radical group of nationalists plot a coup with the city's police make the mercenaries the "Bad guys", take control of the city, and drive out all foreign presence. Despite how potentially complex that may sound, the series is actually quite simple in it's storytelling and is focused more on entertaining the audience. That's not saying that the series "wastes" it's potential. Everything moves along pretty straight forward with some predictable moves and a easily established mindset as to who the characters are, and the story it wants to tell.
Overall, I'd recommend watching the series.

Just finished Speed Grapher. It's about a war photographer who gains the power to cause explosions at whatever he focuses his lens on when he takes pictures after kissing a girl who was born with a virus that mutates his own DNA upon fluid contact. The girl is then kidnapped several times and you get to meet her family and the degenerates who have also been mutated by her while the photographer tries to rescue her and fights aforementioned mutants. As a whole, the show deals with the soulless nature of society and how much more we value money than people. The bad guy's motivation was solely revenge which made some of his later actions really unjustified.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend it; it would've been better as 13 episodes but instead they made it 24 with 1 recap episode.

Dailymotion embed. Click thumbnail to play. Just finished off Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Overall, it's alright series, but it didn't really click for me. With the way the series unfolded, it felt like events and characters were far overdramatic, and it lost much of it's sense of flow and tone when the space-time police shows up half-way through.
It's okay, but could have been handled better

Watched Dai Mahou Touge over the weekend. Surprisingly good OVA mahou shoujo parody starring a cute yet hilariously vile, vengeful protagonist who spends more time assaulting her enemies physically than casting spells at them (apparently her magic is allergic to Gundam). Bonus points for not even bothering to keep a masquerade up; she makes sure everyone knows she's a transfer student from Magic Land from the getgo. Also for status quo letting students be repeatedly injured or killed and the school repeatedly destroyed, only for everything to be fine again by the next half-episode.
As an aside, I now know where that oldass (as far as first seeing it posted on imageboads; 2006 feels like a long time ago now) gif of a potato peeling itself is from.

I just finished Gakusen Toshi Asterisk. The show's plot was fairly paint by numbers, but it sets itself apart from other series by having lots of action and properly using character archetypes as a skeleton to flesh out rather than as a mold (wish they had made the MC less generic while they were at it). The quality of the girls in general was much higher than other harems. Usually, there's a single girl that's light years beyond the competition to the point that I can't fathom why the MC would choose any of the others. Asterisk's girls, on the other hand, are good enough that the best girl won by a country mile rather than the distance between any two given galaxies, and I could see why the MC would choose any of them. The result is a show that was entertaining enough even if you can't call it good.
Pics related. Best girl.

I just watched that a couple weeks ago myself. You're right, it's actually pretty good all things considered, and some of the fights were nicely done. Shortstack samurai was great. Team Loli should have won the festa.
I'm a bit biased though because I actually enjoy battle harems. I think they're fun shows and they make normalfags fuck off from anime.

I couldn't even finish the first season because all the characters started becoming boring and generic for me in some kind of way.
The one dimensional characters and boring plot lines of each episode drained the fun out of the entire show for me, I was almost able to finish the first season but I lost interest by then and couldnt even bother with the show anymore.
I read a bit of the manga and saw instant improvement compared to the anime I read a few paged of the giant hamster fight, stuff that the anime never bothered to animate, I guess it turns out that it was a low budget shitshow kinda like Golden Kamui.

I think the big main weakeness of season 2 was how disconnected Momonga was from the events of the series. It wasn't until the third episodes that they established that he was the "great one" attacking the lizard people. I assumed it was, but it still didn't confirm it until that late. You barely see any of the main character in the entire season. And after his creative plan of, "kill the shit out of the Lizards to subjugate them" the show continues to not loop us in on anything that he has planned or is going on.

I just finished Kaiji season 2. Sure, it wasn't as good as the first, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The issue is that they only had two fucking story arcs. The first one was basically paced like the first season, but the Man-Eating Bog lasted way too long. You could have cut out maybe 4 episodes and still covered all the same amount of content with the dramatic timing needed. The really needed to have at least one more story arc.

Just finished watching Martian Successor Nadesico, and it isn't all that good. It has some stuff that works, but all the series' ideas end up being half-baked in execution. There moments spread throughout about the questions of losing people in war, what they're really fighting for, how wars are purposely manipulated to happen, and people just seeking blood and don't want peace, but all of that is never resolved. At the finale of the series, there are only three things that are wrapped which is the protagonist getting over a past trauma, him finally getting together with his waifu, and some line paraphrased as "It's just a show, don't take it so seriously" (Which sort-of upsets me cause it makes wonder if it's the creators' shitty way of negating not only the series but also the fact that the it ends on a terribly where nothing is resolved and it feels like nothing was actually learned). On top of that, the show has a hard time of deciding if it wants to be an action show, a comedy, a drama, or just waifu-bait. The action scenes are the best parts of it, but it's hard to get invested in any other part when feels like events and reactions are randomly placed about half the time. One episode can end with a character going through a mental breakdown, and then proceed to be joking around at the very start of the next. Also, there's the aspect that all of the main characters', as well as the enemies', motivations are all tied to a TV show, and not in a humorous way like Galaxy Quest. Lastly, to finish it all off, it doesn't feel like any of the characters actually mature, in any way.
Overall, Nadesico feels like a trainwreck, that, once you start watching, you have to see it through all the way to the end just to see how bad it could get. And, at the moment I'm debating if it will be worth it to continue by playing The blank of 3years and watching The Prince of Darkness. If you have interest in watching this, I'd advise that you watching something else. Perhaps something like The Irresponsible Captain Tylor.

There's also the fact that, when arriving on Mars, they wiped out the entire surviving colony (The very same people the ship was suppose to fucking save because that was the entire point of their mission), and then everyone felt sad for an episode. Then, there was also where the admiral sacrificed his life valiantly to cover for the Nadesico while they escaped, and all Yurika cares about immediately after is why Akito was holding Inez's hand. And, then, the fucker shows up in the last episode, out of nowhere, and it turns out that her survived and has been bumming around Mars for the past year.
It is no exaggeration to say that Ruri, Omoikane, Howmei, and Howmei's crew are the only reason to watch it.

I think you missed the point of the show but it is not your fault. Like many before and since it was meant to parody of giant space robot fighting mecha anime. Being poorly translated and localized does not help since the jokes were localized rather than translated and taken as meaning lighten the mood in a silly show rather than reference a past common trope from the genre that just came up in the show. Knowing that it really becomes even more of a trainwreck translated the way it was. It is such a mess the joke that the cook being the hero and the cool character getting killed right away rather than mid show do not even register.

I'd be willing to understand what you're saying, but the execution of everything else in the show is just such bullshit that the "translation" cannot be the only factor as to why this series isn't any good. And, parodies can only go so far when you're mimicking the very premise of other series. Why do you think The Orville dropped the act after the first episode with all the marketing it had?

I finally finished Haruhi Suzumiya. It was underwhelming, even the movie. It felt like they were building towards a number of things throughout the series and nothing ever really came of it. It seemed like by the movie Haruhi would come into contact with the Space Entity, the time travelers would go to war with the epsers and Haruhi would find out about her powers use them to either completely alter the world or not change it at all because she's grown to love the world just as it is or something like that, but instead it's just about Yuki wanting to be a normal girl mixed with Back to the Future and that one Twilight Zone episode about the guy who wakes up in a different dimension. And to top it all off, it ends with everything returning to normal, mostly. That's not a bad idea, but it didn't need to be a movie and they certainly didn't need almost three hours full of unnecessary twists and turns to tell that story. It could have been a two part episode in the series. I still liked it, though.

Basic plot is: MC's grandad passed away at 80ish years of age. Turns out her had been fooling around with his maid and had an illegitimate child. Oops. MC is single and in his thirties and takes the kid home, at first temporarily, but it soon becomes a more permanent situation as he gets more attached to her and invests himself more into being a parent.
The TRUE plot is about sacrifices of raising a child. Mainly conciliation between work and family life. MC is a single parent, but the supporting cast is full of different kinds of families. Including the girls mother, who abandoned her child to focus on work.
It's s series both heavy and comfortable to watch. And I'll be heading to read the manga right away.

Just finished off Noir.
It's an okay series, but it feels like the creators were trying to put as much of a "deep" and action-based series together as they could with the lowest budget possible. The premise is that an amnesiac contacts an assassin asking is she would like to go on a "pilgrimage to the past" on order to find out about both of the girl's childhoods and why it is they live the life they live. First two-thirds of the series is one long slog where the writers cannot decide if they want to flesh out the story's unique premise or make Japanese La Femme Nikita, with instances where the story wants to act like it's smart but just results in filler. However, with the final third, it starts gaining a hold of itself and keeping a consistent tone. And, by that time, the story is more about dealing with ancient rituals and prophecies, the girls finding out that they're involved with the Illuminati, and answering questions that the first episode established. As for as the actual quality of the production, you'll be hearing the same three songs repeated in every single episode; and the visuals feel much more like they're establishing shots, keeping the action at much too slow of a pace when it isn't happening off-screen, and leaving too much to the viewers imagination as to how each scene flows together.
As I said, it's an okay series that comes together in the end, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Finished the SAO movie yesterday. I watched it in about 20 minute installments over 3 days since I'm a busy guy just kidding I have a short attention span
The villain's motives were believable as were his henchman's which made it kind of alright; the main fight between kirito and the henchman was kind of dumb because they aren't in full VR - rather they are playing an augmented reality game (like pokemon go for example) and they are wall running and dashing around and strangling people twice their size. If it weren't for the ridiculous powers I might've been able to actually recommend it. There was a lot of singing and idols, most of the boss fights were cgi but some were also hand drawn. Kirito was only sort of insufferable with a bonus of Asuna "two years of semen" bath scene.

It's a lot of style over substance, but damn it has style. It pretends to have a plot near the end, but it felt forced to me. You don't have any estabilished villains, and even the MCs are not well developed, but then it starts introducing plot like you're supposed to care about them.
Still, it is fun. I recommend. Now onwards to the 90's series. Supposedly it's a completely different plot, I don't even know if it's directly linked to the 80's series.

Just finished of watching Zillion and it was an entertaining series to go through. It centers around an elite trio of soldiers who wield a special laser gun (That came from "God") and defend the planet Maris from the invading Nohza forces. Earlier on, the series feels a bit more like a light "war drama", but it pushes more on becoming a "villain/incident of the week" show the further on it gets (Until the final episode). The animation for the show is also good and pretty to look at, however, the final episode just blows everything away (Probably in a case of "Blowing the rest of the budget").
As far as gripes, most of it has to do with the characters. The story (And many of the episodes) centers around the "leader" of the group, JJ, and it feels like he character doesn't progress in any regard. He starts the series as an immature dolt, and ends it the same way. Meanwhile, the rest of the characters (Which even includes the secretary and the "robot mascot") all received deeper characterization. Well, all the characters except the girl of the group. Her presence feels like she's only there to play the part as the "required" girl, and I would have really liked to see the show to have at least given her some amount of attention.
Overall, I do say it's worth watching.

Just finished watching the Ninja Resurrection, and it's a beautiful thing to watch. The animation is excellent, the tone and style of the story sucks you right in, and it does leave you wanting more.
Too bad this is only a two parter with a third episode that was never made.
What's even worse is reading up on how ADV apparently made this become one of the most infamous OVAs ever released in the West due to their deceptive marketing: https://infogalactic.com/info/Ninja_Resurrection
>In 1998 ADV Films' decision to release Makai Tensho as Ninja Resurrection caused a wave of confusion among anime fans. First, the animated film ended in a cliffhanger and was never finished after only two episodes were completed. Second and more importantly, most viewers left they were led to believe that this was a sequel to Ninja Scroll, as both titles featured a main character named Jubei, similar design and animative style and even the title logo was given a design similar to that of the latter. Critics saw this as ADV's attempt to capitalize on Ninja Scroll's popularity at the time which had taken American audiences by storm with the exposure assistance from MTV's animated tv series Liquid Television. Ninja Resurrection's interesting storyline and character development, violent action horror-gore, and episode cliffhangers, left dvd audiences wanting more, that would never come as no further episodes were released. While Ninja Resurrection sold well in the U.S., the deceptive marketing gave it one of the worst reputations in American anime fandom.

I hate when that happens. This was something similar but even worse in Tokko. Looking back it was sort of cringy but at the time it was really interesting. The deep issue is that it ended on a cliffhanger that would restart over to collect 78 puzzle pieces or whatever and it never continued beyond that. I am starting to think this is why lately Anime does not show until the Manga goes up to a certain point or has a high chance of continuing.

Finished off watching all of the Macross Zero OVA, and I feel very jaded over the entire thing. It's a beautiful series to watch, beautifully animated, some of the best CGI you'll see in anime, the music is top great with bring the series together, and the story does have an emotional pull to it all. However, the end result is that it all ends up feeling so shallow. I don't know what other way to phrase it. For all the drama, fighting, violence, and destruction on display, it all wraps up with some slapped together message of "love conquers all" and "war is evil" which makes me think that the writers had to rush to finish everything off with the fifth episode. If you allow me to be a little bit mean, Macross Zero is a "remake" of Princess Mononoke, which was a film that I actually didn't care for.
Also, I don't think this actually adds anything to Macross series, so that brings up the question of why did this need to exist? However, all I've seen of Macross is what was translated into Robotech, so I may have missed out on something "deeper".

Finished off the Captain Tylor OVAs, and I feel a bit mixed to say about them. First you have the two produced by the original staff ("An Exceptional Episode"/"Tylor's War"), then you have the 6 episode OVA where Studio Deen and a different team took over, and the 2 part finale also done by the Studio Deen and the new team ("From Here to Eternity"). To get things out of the way, it does carry on the overall tone of series, continues it on, and "finishes" it; but it feels like there was a drastic change in the way things were actually handled when Studio Deen took over, and I mean beyond just the different art style. The animation and audio art is still consistent with the top quality of the series, but the actual production of does leave it feeling like Tatsunoko and Mashimo Kouichi did the series better.
To put it one way, Studio Deen and Yoshinaga Naoyuki focused making the characters…"appear" more mature when they were handling the series, meanwhile Tatsunoko and Mashimo Kouichi focused more on the characters acting more mature.

Because he already had a woman sticking around with him hinting at a pair, and also because the MC and the girl he raised hooking up just ruins all the cozy daughter-raising times. Raising a child just to fuck her when she grows up betrays fatherly instincts in a fundamental level and mixes them up with the need for reproduction. Granted parents always see their wards as children regardless of how much they grow, how can any sane man possibly live with the idea of sticking his dick into, and marry, someone who he will always perceive as his pure little daughter?
That's like taking care of a calf or a chick and raising it like a loving pet for years, only to butcher them and make them into dinner. All those memories of playing with them, taking care of them when they're sick, forming a bond, emotional investment, and all they amount to is becoming a meal in some random evening you'll eventually forget about? Just to satisfy your passing instinct of hunger?

They followed the 4koma formula to a t. It was a pioneer in the CGDCT genre in that regard, and we can see that the market must have had the same opinion as you, as other 4koma mangas subsequently adapted into anime did it differently. As a moder example, Comic Girls was a 4koma, but the anime turned it into them into an episodic series with a loose overarching plot (that didn't go anywhere, but such is the way with these 4 koma manga).
Pop Team Epic does the opposite, however. Going all out on a format that resembles a vines compilation, and maybe that's why I didn't like it so much.

Watched Arjuna. Can't deny it was interesting, but fuck if it isn't a mental trip, heavy on "civilization goes against the natural flow" theme, and some really heavy "makes you think" topics at times. The fact that the two protagonists are already in a relationship for once, if an awkward one, was refreshing, leaving the question less "will they or won't they" and more "are their bonds enough that the strain won't tear them apart." And Tokio, despite his own level of senses, does do his best to make an effort to understand what his girlfriend, Juna, is going through and the truths she discovers (being thrown first-hand to scary ass situations involving shit he can't see opens the mind a tiny bit), even if him not being equipped to properly feel it or really even "meant" to think about such leaves him often confused and increasingly frustrated.
Fucking shit was that backstory for Cindy rough to witness (whole episode it was a mere part of, really), and while not exactly redeeming her, certainly makes for feel sympathetic to how she turned out to be such a venomous, possessive, precocious brat that refuses to get close to anyone but Chris.

Episode 1 I could figure just wouldn't have an opening to begin with, the way some series just jump right in and only have their openings starting from episode 2, but the time duration could definitely be a possibility. Just struck me a bit strange. It actually does have one that shows up once later, albeit as reused clips (the way, say, Gunbuster and Diebuster's openings are to their earlier episodes, for comparison) and borrows one of the credits themes for the opening music. Oddly doesn't replace the usual recap (at least on the rip I watched), and doesn't really overlap the content, so to speak. Yet due to the nature of how the show was apparently released, the previous episode actually debuted on the JP Director's Cut DVDs, so maybe that "opening" was made deliberately because they couldn't recap an episode they didn't air the first go around, with the recap itself debuting on the DVD as well? Either that or the episode was simply shorter than usual and needed to fill an extra minute and a half or so.
Also makes me wonder if the episodes were also renumbered post-Director's Cut, or if the original airing outright jumped an number entirely but still ended on 13. But I guess only those that saw it out there, or have recordings, might be able to say, and in the end, probably doesn't matter.

I'll preface this by saying I'm a BDSMfag so maybe it's incredibly biased, but I loved Nana to Kaoru. It's a manga series I don't see mentioned here very often or at all, and it's ended more than two years ago today but I only finished it recently. The story revolves around Kaoru, a perverted, short, frog-faced, stupid High Schooler whose obsessed with BDSM and his childhood friend and neighbor Nana, who is a tall, athletic, beautiful, honor student. They've grown apart since Middle School but a certain incident causes Nana to become dependent on Kaoru for "breathers" after awakening to her own perverted tendencies. At a glance it seems like plain old smut but the main characters in it are so well developed it kept me riveted. The art is also top notch fetish material. Unlike a traditional romance story where the characters have perverted things happen to them incidentally, it's fully what drives the relationship between the characters and feels properly integrated. Kaoru in particular with his inferiority complex is the most realistic depiction of a loser in a manga I've ever read and it's physically painful at times to sympathize with him. Chapter 79 in particular is one of the few times a manga has actually made me cry with how down-to-earth and realistic the character's issues are. His character arc over the entire course of the story is incredibly satisfying and makes you cheer for him. Nana seems like a very shallow character at first that's seemingly perfect in every way, but as the series goes on slowly but surely cracks show up in her facade until you realize that her own achievements are also because of her own complex, albeit a more useful one than Kaoru's. In addition, as opposed to most other romance manga where the characters main concern is "who will the MC hook up with?" as people slowly develops feelings, this manga has both MCs very obviously in love with each other from the start but find it incredibly emotionally painful to actually admit as such to themselves and each other. This does however bridge to one of the main issues I have with the manga, which is the very weak love triangle the artist tries to shoehorn in when he introduces Tachi who is the stupid, flat-chested, rash and crude counterpart to Nana. I found the character incredibly annoying but thankfully, she pops in and out of arcs and doesn't constantly distract. And while she has feelings for Kaoru, Kaoru never gives a shit about her above a friendship level. In addition, I would say the ending to the main manga is wreck, a trademark of the author Amazume at this point, but the side-story Black Label more than makes up for it as a satisfying conclusion to the romance with incredible build-up and pay-off. The only other thing I would mention is that, personally, I did take a huge break in the middle of this manga which is why it took so long for me to finish as I didn't come back to until I remembered it existed. I think the middle does get dragged on too long but nothing impossible.
All in all I would heavily recommend if you're a BDSM pervert who wants to read a romance story, and would also heavily recommend if you want to see a satisfying love story in general that mostly avoids tropes that plague the genre.
It should also be stated that the author AMAZUME also has a great romance about a man finding a legal age loli, one about a more realistic take on a "futa virus" with a high school futa falling in love with a male classmate, and one about, and a genderbender with a girl slowly becoming man through magically genderbend virus falling in love with a boy slowly becoming a woman. While all in a similar vein none of the characters are nearly as satisfying as Nana to Kaoru though.

No such thing. Her being nine years old and pretty short doesn't make her
a loli. That character neither behaved like a loli, nor looked like one,
except for being short and of appropriate age. Loli is about a lot more
that simply age and height. Most importantly though, it is absolutely
necessary for lolis to be flat.
The blonde girl was a lot more deserving of the loli title, though not
quite there.

Just finished off Rail Wars!, and it's an okay series. The premise of the series is the protagonist wants to drive metro trains so he can have a "peace-filled life", and ends becoming part of the safety force for the metro. The next 11 episodes are about some of the misadventures he experiences, and it's mixed. Part of the series feels like it wants to be more exciting about all the dangerous episodes that happens with dealing with the railways, and other episodes feel like it wants to push the girls as waifubait for the protagonist. That's not to say that the series is bad and should be avoided, but it feels like there's a lot of missed potential. Overall, I do recommend it, but it feels like there could have been more.
Also, it should be mentioned that it does have the best breasts that I have ever seen animated in a series.

Just finished off Amazing Nurse Nanako, and it was a good, short series. The story centers around the nurse/maid who works at a military hospital, some of the folk that work there, and a few of her misadventures. If you're looking for a plot, the show really goes nowhere, but it is enjoyable to watch. Also, I rather liked the animation and art style of the series, but I can reasonably see if anyone doesn't care for it. Also, the audio uses the same stock sounds you previous heard dozens of times before.
Overall, I'd recommend it.

I mostly stick to VNs and games, so bear with me.

>something about it being violent or whatever
>beginning is very good, actually like the characters
>middle is still decent
>by the end the show can only make me angry
>complete indifference for 90% of the cast sinks in
>maximum bullshit ending
Now, I have to say that I watched it with JP subs so I understood about 4/5ths of the story and may have missed a crucial detail or two (had to pause to look up words at times).
But within the context of what I saw and did comprehend, all I felt was disgust and repulsiveness towards the despicable inhuman abominations, especially the one who (supposedly) got a happy ending for herself.
Even for Mariko and I usually have a very soft spot for lolis, no matter what.
My sympathies go towards the brave soldiers and researchers who gave their lives combating this filth.
Despite feeling like this, I'd be willing to look into the mango because it seems that they always omit important details and characters in animus (Kodomo no Jikan mango which I'm reading now is immensely better than the animu).
I hope it could give me a clearer picture of the whole thing and a more satisfying resolution.

APPARE, APPARE
definitely gave an alternative view of the world, specifically that of the "the world is overpopulated, humans should be limited to 100,000 max" crowd (as if they're the ones that will be the people who decide who gets to stay).
if chris was the rajas all along, would that mean he was programming juna with anti-human views the entire time as well? he seemed to be a huge dick towards juna the whole time (why kill, you don't understand anything, etc)
the episode were they were stuck in the middle of nowhere with that old farmer guy was really comfy even though once again the amount of land required to produce that food couldn't support a large population.

It was ok, but the more stuff the author added, the less sense it did at the long run
Like when they send a burger spy to spy on the main characters, later baiting them to visit burgerland with the president sending them an invitation, when nothing worked, they fucking kidnapped the MC creating an international incident, later reveling that everyone except the Spy Boss thought it was a retarded idea to kidnap the main characters in the first place, so they decided to not execute the plan, so why did the fucking president send the invitation anyway?
And the category D weapons stuff, putting aside that you only see two weapons actually protecting the planet, the whole, contacting, asking and later using a category D as a bargaining chip to stop the end of the world sounded retarded as fuck.
>hey, original D, we will destroy the category D weapon that was protecting us in front of you, so please stop the human shoah, ok?
Really nigger? Really?
I was ok with the whole, "humans will kill each other, so I will send monsters to keep them busy" plot
I guess the writer didnt have enough time to explore all that shit and cut some corners.

I didn't so much get that from it, as much as being more mindful of our place and impact on the planet, and the differences between civilization and the natural order. Though, I suppose Earth really isn't meant to sustain this many of a higher order, high intake species long term, at least the way we do it.
>if chris was the rajas all along, would that mean he was programming juna with anti-human views the entire time as well? he seemed to be a huge dick towards juna the whole time (why kill, you don't understand anything, etc)
I don't think he was trying to make her turn against her kind, but rather to increase awareness of what was happening to the world and how it was supposed to work. As to asking why she'd kill, probably more that doing so wouldn't address the actual problems that had prompted the rajas in the first place. Chris' attitude comes off more as wanting and hoping that she'd realize things herself, without having to be outright told. Sure, it makes him come off as disappointed and asking too much too fast, but he generally acts patient with her even against his health concerns, and her making her own discoveries probably gives the message to her more impact and weight. Unfortunately, one might say some of those lessons die with both of them, though others Tokio and Cindy could be effectively ground zero advocates towards.
And in the end, it probably would take a cataclysm of the degree shown to really get people to relent and pick a more sustainable path, lest it happen again, and on a larger scale.

Hand Maid May.
I don't know what makes it good, every step of the way I'd name it "mediocre seasonal SOL from 18 years ago that everyone forgot" but I was hooked from the first episode. Everything and everyone in this anime is jolly whereas I've noticed that today's SOLs always have that one permanently depressed character, after a while it starts really getting into you and making you happier. Another thing it definitely has going for it is that it's an original anime and not a manga/LN adaptation like so many animes today.
The ending however, is a rollercoaster of emotions that'll leave you mindbroken and not in the lewd way.

Finished the Escaflowne TV series. It was okay but nothing special. I was interested enough to keep watching but looking back on it there were a lot of things I didn't care about. Perhaps it was my fault for watching it too fast to develop an emotional connection to the characters. On the other hand, Hitomi is an indecisive roastie with a boring love life, and all the predestination vs free will, power of love changes everything, etc. etc. themes are just shit that I find cliched and boring for stories to go over—there's nothing insightful about any of that stuff to me.
A bunch of questions were not answered by the ending, but they were of secondary importance and the story still works without the answers. For example, how did Van and the dragon appear on Earth in the first place, how did Hitomi's grandmother get to Gaea in the past, or what was the deal with that translucent green/blue energist that Van got after he came out of the ruins of Atlantis.
I liked the pair of leopard girls who were in love with Folken. Other antagonists didn't grab me.

Finished watching Scryed the other day. Surprising just how much it turns around between the first half and the second, the first having the recurring cast being almost one note (with Kazuma and Ryuho almost being "feral animal" tier in their aggression and obsession) and suffering noticeable pacing issues with lack of breathing room, and yet after the midpoint it actually manages its time much better, and develops more of a plot and better characterization for everyone left. Not a perfect show by any means, and I have to wonder why it wound up so cramped in the first half's development to begin with, but I found it pretty entertaining in the end.

Princess Principal.
I only picked it up because I have a massive boner for princesses, so not much else mattered to me.
The story is whatever and doesn't make sense half the time.
The characters are hit and miss.
Some of the moments seem really forced, but at least the show doesn't try to tug at my heartstrings too much.
The twists were bad.
Also something about yuri, but it didn't really interest me.
But the princess is extremely cute and I want to marry and impregnate her over and over again (and spank her when she is a bad girl), so I guess it wasn't a complete waste of my time.
At least her behaviour lives up to her title. Mostly.

I finished Barakamon, Soredemo Machi, wa Mawatteiru, and all of Genshiken this month.
>Barakamon
It's about a calligrapher who loses his shit and is exiled to an island were he is to stay until he matures and improves his calligraphy. The island is the home of some small villages, being a close knit community the local loli and JKs do their best to cure MC from his autism. Despite being a lolifag I was more drawn to the actual plot than just the lolis. It's a fun SoL show that gives a heartwarming feeling. I'd definitely recommend it to any anon that has the time to watch it.
>Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru
Meido SoL directed by Shinbou and produced by SHAFT. MC is the town baka who works at a maid cafe run by an old hag, whilst trying to become a high school detective MC manages to fuck up anything she touches. I watched this mainly because I had seen some reaction gif of the meidos. Got some nice fanservice and the characters are great, the chemistry between the characters are really well done. I don't think there was anything I particularly disliked about the show and I'm surprised that I haven't seen this discussed or even mentioned anywhere. Watch it if you like meidos, fanservice, and weird camera shots.
>Genshiken
I liked the 1st season alot, the second one was OK but once the first generation was gone and it went into fujoshi it went to shit. I'm normally not against fujoshi, to each their own, but parts of the second season and the entirety of the third was just shit. As someone in the Genshiken thread said the first season really is like a time capsule of how otakus were in the early '00s and I wholeheartedly recommend it, anything after the first season isn't something I'd recommend. I read Spotted Flower before I even knew about Genshiken and didn't realize the two were related until the penultimate episode of the last season.
All in all I'm glad I've finally started to work on my backlog.

Harem shit about the MC buying a little chick that turned into a hot chick, whole story is SoL with MC and company, MC is dense/retarded and doesnt understand the feelings of the girls around him, it later turns into a love triangle with MC, hot chick and childhood friend, and it goes like this to the bitter end, even if EVERYONE laid down the cards and finally said how they felt for each other, nothing changed.
There was some potential with this story, the Hot Chick can lay eggs, a chick will come out when it hatches and you guessed right, that chick will turn into another hot chick, but the writer fucked up because the MC didnt impregnate the original Hot Chick to do that, it just magically happened.
Also, Childhood friend has a cat, that turns into a hot girl at will, there was a mini arc with the hot cat trying to rape sexually harass bully the Hot Chick to make her leave MC, so that MC and ChF could get together I would have liked that instead of a hot girl, the cat turned into a shota, so that at least the ChF could pair up with someone at the end and instead of RAPE, he could just mess with her emotions and force her to turn into a chick
The only good thing about the whole comic was the nice art and the nipples, the anatomy was bad.

I watched the bakuretsu hunters anime and the 3 episode OVA.
By objective standards It's really a perfectly average anime. It has nothing wrong with it, but also nothing right with it. Everything is just perfectly mediocre.
The group of protagonists kills these evil mages called "Sorcerers" as ordered by the goddess "Big Momma".
Most episodes they live an unique adventure where at the end of it they kill the sorcerer and advance the plot a bit.
Describing the plot kind of spoils it because part of the early anime is the goddess telling you about what's about to happen in her worried monologues, but it's pretty simple stuff that matters little until the ending is near.
You'd only watch this if you like the interaction between the characters. And I liked the 2 dominatrix sisters who are part of the group of protagonists, so I kept on watching it. The OVA is also lewder than the rest of the series and completely separated from the main plot if you just want that.
I read that this anime was the first anime the studio making it produced, I'd say it was a good start.

Dream Hunter Rem.
Rem is a loli, and she hunts demons who invade people's dreams with a sword and a revolver. She has a heart of gold and drives around in her sports car with her 2 animal companions.
There are titties in every episode and some dragon ball-tier violence in some scenes. The animation is above average.
If you like her personality, which is very likable, you'll like this anime. It's just simple, easily enjoyable stuff.

Just finished off watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam series (0079), and it was alright. Most of the series came off as…cheesy with it's storytelling, but it wasn't willing to hold back when it came to anything "serious". The animation is interesting to watch, but a lot of it is repeated sequences and stills. Also, I have to say that the audio is a little lackluster as the characters sounded like they were recorded over the phone, and you're going to be hearing the same six songs playing ALL throughout the series. My biggest complaint about the series is that has the same "drama" issues a lot of modern American shows have. In it's feel, the character's actions, and so on. However, it doesn't become too distracting an problem because even the "hardest" issues last for 2-4 episodes. And, to the Anon who said "It's like Stargate" (Which made me decide to watch it), no, it is absolutely nothing like Stargate. It would be much more appropriate to compare it to something like The Expanse (Except, most of the "violence" is relegated to the first and last six episodes).
Overall, I'd say it's worth watching if you're interested. However, I would like to know if the sequel/follow-up series are just cheap excuses to make more money (As in, do they drop the ESP/"Newtypes" plot point for convenience and pull the same crap Disney is doing in nuStar Wars with having the empire continuing to exist despite the fact that they lost?) or if they actually keep things going in a coherent way.

Newtypes BECOME IRRITATINGLY crucial to the plot, they also attempt to mass produce them but fail at it for retarded plot convenience reasons. The politics turn to crap really shortly after Zeta though and Zeon loyalist organizations survive just because, or characters initiate entire fucking wars over being butthurtb about a fucking Poo in the Loo Newtype. In terms of the timeline which is the Universal Century, anything political that happens after Zeta is pretty much fucking contrived garbage. That being said I did like the F91 movie and V Gundam since those happen way off into the future of the Timeline.
Unicorn Gundam is interesting and kind of explains a few mysteries in regards to the newtypes, so pick that one up too if you want. Honestly the Universal Century Universe of the Gundam series is so well done, but self contained to a certain degree you can watch all of it's entries in chronological order and not get spoilered.
If you want a real military drama though I'd recommend something like FLAG, VOTOMs, Break Blade and the obligatory LOGH.

Forgot to mention if you bother watching VOTOMs stuff that's not the main the Red Shoulder Anime, Mellowink and Shining Heresy is fucking excellent. Red Shoulder happens between the Space Vietnam and Quaint Arc, Mellowink is a sidestory that takes place in the same universe with completely unrelated chracters, and Shining Heresy is an OVA sequel.
Anything other than that though is to be honest crap because it contains alot of retcons and unironically makes the MC's life even more fucking miserable than it already is. Alternatively you can also skip out on watching Shining Heresy since it too makes the MC's life even more fucking miserable than it has to be
BTW if someone can find it, can you post the American Comic made about VOTOMs? It's been retconned already, but I really want to read it anyhow, the cover art looks really fucking cool.

Just finished Mirai Nikki, and the depression is hitting me hard. I'm not going to even say it's a stellar show, but I've spent the last 5 days getting in an episode every moment I could and Yuno is in my dreams. It's a fun watch, often predictable, sometimes frustrating. I didn't catch it when it aired, but I know a lot of people dropped it a few episodes in because Yuki is such a pussy. Thing is Yuki being a bitch is what kept me watching. Every time he mistreated Yuno by refusing her affection I wanted to watch just to be mad at him and to see her in action and imagine what I would do in MC's place. The few episodes where he had a spine and the two actually had the love I wanted made the whole season worth watching for me, and the OVA really is the ending it needed.

Just finished Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Phantom Arc. If there was one phrase I could use to describe it, it would be "wasted potential". The OVA brings back the original cast from the original series, now aged 25 years, and while it's nice to see them again, they didn't really do anything or interact with the main story. The plot doesn't really start until episode 3, where Chirico actually shows up, the previous two episodes were wasted on nostalgia tripping the viewers with "OH REMEMBER THAT THING THAT HAPPENED, WE DO" and it's just chewing up screentime for no reason. And when Chirico finally shows up and the plot kicks off, they don't seem to remember any of the events that happened in Shining Heresy like Fyana dying. Chirico acts like nothing happened even though it may have been just a few months since he's been thawed out, and just sorta meanders through the OVA whenever someone needs an action scene in a Scopedog.
It seems like it would have been much better if the cast actually encountered Chirico on their trip, and helped him over the course over the series worked out his issues and help him achieve some sort of peace. I know it's a mecha action show, but the action scenes were painfully mediocre CG anyway, and they didn't have any cool variants aside from that weird polearm Berserga. The final climax is what angered me enough, they set up Gilgamesh and Balarant, plus the Church of Martial are going to have a three way confrontation but in they end they just sit there when Chirico basically repeats the end of the original story beat for beat It's so bad it makes me wonder why they even bothered making this.

Just finished off Jikuu Tenshou Nazca, and it's an okay series, however not something really worth recommending to watch. When it comes to the animation, the art style is appealing, but the animation feels like the studio is trying to be fluid in the cheapest way possible (And throwing all of the budget into the last episode and the CGi). The audio for the series does it's job, however the music becomes very annoying whenever the chant starts just about every other episode, which makes the show feel very cheesy in it's tone. As for the actual story, it feels like they tried to drag out plot that was only suppose to only last for 4 episodes, and turned it into a 12 episode series. The pacing is extremely slow or purposely finding ways to make everything last much longer than it needs to with pointless drama or flashbacks. To tell what the plot is, two Inca princes (And their few followers) reincarnate to into the bodies of a student and master of a kendo, awaken one day during a tournament match, and the master tries to bring about the end of the world. The rest of the series is about "putting all the pieces in place", the characters just trying to find reasons why they can't kill each other until the finale, awakening a character about their past life, or going into the "deep" backstory of what these souls were doing in pre-colonial America.
Overall, a dull watch and not something that I would really recommend. However, I do like the flute song they have playing during the credits. Reminds me that I need to find the Wild Arms 2 soundtrack sometime.

Decided to watch some OVAs for a change of pace and just finished off the M.D. Geist films. Overall, I'd say the first part is the better of the two. The general story is that the planet Jerra has been caught up in a war for who knows how long, and it's pretty much reduced the entire place to a hostile desert. During said war, a military project created a group of cloned supersoldiers for the purpose of killing, with project called "Most Dangerous Solders". The protagonist of the films, Geist, was considered the black sheep of the experiment, and eventually resulted in the projected getting canned. Then, because Geist was considered "too dangerous" to be left alive, but apparently too valuable to kill, they threw him into cryo storage on a satellite. The first film picks up with him waking up after the satellite crashes on the planet, and the second one deals with the aftermath of the first film months/years later. As far as comparing the films, the first one is comparable to Mad Max, meanwhile II: Death Force is comparable to Terminator. In regards to pacing, the first film is slower and more laid back, meanwhile the second film feels like it's worrying that the audience will lose interest if something isn't happening every 30 seconds. In regards to the animation, both of them are spectacular, but the second film looks more appealing and has some greater detail, meanwhile the first one is a lot more subtle. Actually, when you get down to it, the first film is subtle in a lot with it's deliver. From the story, to the direction, the characters, everything. Meanwhile, the second film feels like some...for lack of a better term, "big budget" project. The soundtrack for the second film is a lot more active, the gore is much more present, the characters emotion's are a lot more emphasized...
To round it all up, the first film feels like some experimental project, meanwhile the second is trying to capitalize on all the "nostalgia" and reception the first film had gained during the decade long gap. Overall, I would recommend watching both of them. Now, I just have to see about tracking down the prequel comic sometime.

Just finished off Hyper Speed Gran Doll, and I found it to be an entertaining series. It a little three episode OVA about a school girl who was sent to earth to escape the Soviet Revolution taking place on her planet. And, with the girl, her parents also sent her a the most powerful battle armor ever created. And, all three of the episodes encompass what happens when said revolutionaries find out that the girl and armor fled to Earth. For the most part, it's not that deep of a series. I've seen a lot of people talking shit about the series and how it's written on nothing but cliches, but it all has a pleasing charm. The protagonist is a clueless tokusatsu fan girl, she has a crush on the hottest guy at school (Who she is actually dating in the first episode), she causes her "rival" to switch sides, her adopted parents are geniuses too smart and love struck for their own good...I could go on, but it's all pleasing and simple that makes the series come together as a whole. As for the audio, I don't remember much about the music (Aside from the awesome ED, embed), but the voices are all overly emotional more than half the time. And, as for the animation, it has that really appealing 90's Western artists have been trying to ape for decades and failing at. I'm not talking about the soft "puffy" rounded art that on display in the "90s Artstyle" thread ( >>90890 ), I mean the more angular stuff.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone interested in watching it. It's nice having something simple every now and then.

>Reminds me that I need to find the Wild Arms 2 soundtrack sometime.
The official OST release has long been despised, not due to the quality of the game's music itself, but because for whatever reason, the duration of each track on it is incredibly short, ending right as the loop for most would actually begin. The only reasons I can see being that someone had Naruke compose a bonus track for it (which is actually orchestrated arrangements of six or so tracks as one file), which goes on for over thirteen minutes. Either that, or it was because Sony was so cheap they only wanted to have to do two discs per copy (in which case, the arrangetrack above was just filler then?). Now, there is an apparently "Extended Score" trackset, but I'm not sure if it's actually official or not, and in digging around in it myself, I swear it's missing notable songs like "Dungeon Front Battle 2" (unless it got renamed to something else). Point being, it's a game that really benefits from lengthy fan stitched extensions of tracks on (((youtube))) and the like, because the actual OST release fails to right by both the game and fans.
Official OST also lacks the full versions of "You'll Never Be Alone" and "Resistance Line", which can be found on the Vocal Collection album instead.

the premise of the show is after people die, they can send a letter (the shigofumi) to the living.
the arcs that weren't about the MC(s) were the strongest, the other arcs where they investigate the MC's past felt kind of unfocused.
also recently finished noucome, and again would recommend especially the FFF subs
MC is forced to pick usually between two horrible choices or else he gets a splitting unceasing headache until he picks one. The comedy is slapstick but the characters really made the show. It's really lighthearted and although there are strong harem elements, mc has an actual reason for not picking a girl.

Finished watching Heat Guy J earlier. Pretty fun sci-fi/police series, albeit the Special Investigation Unit is focused more on "crime prevention", though frequently get directly involved in active situations anyhow. Does suffer a bit from not giving hints towards a main plot sooner, the broader worldbuilding being interesting but the limited scope of the setting under-utilizing it in the plot, as well as that whenever they feel a need to make Daisuke's android partner J shine a bit more, Daisuke's aim often gets shittier, which isn't helped by the fact the unit's budget cuts limit him to only three or four bullets per trip into the field. Also Daisuke pulling an "if you kill him you'll be just like him" on one of his teammates, but I'm somewhat willing to let that pass because they could have also milked the guy being assaulted for information on who hired him, which would be hard to do that after he's already dead. Still good though if you ask me, and Daisuke's personality and how he interacts with others was pretty enjoyable.

>"wow Miyafuji how did you do that manoeuvre with no prior training?"

>"wow Miyafuji you are so special"
>the major suffers a near-fatal wound that leaves her almost crippled and only 3 people visit her hospital bed; Miyafuji collapses "from shock" upon hearing some bad news and the whole crew is beside her
and so on really started to get on my nerves. The girl being a turbo piece of shit and so painfully generic didn't help things either.
My disdain for her knows no bounds.
Also, the attempt to reach some kind of a conclusion with the last 3 episodes when no plot existed before was a total joke.

Kanamemo was the type of light hearted, comfy, yuri SoL I needed. The cast mixed well together and were pretty fun. It made me smile all the way through. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys that type of content.

Perrine does have one of the best designs but she's mostly a cunt until S2 where they make her more likable. I didn't expect to like Strike Witches as much as I did too. I expected shit and came out enjoying myself despite having the same complaints. Luccini and Miyafuji are my favorite characters.

Perrine didn't really come off as a cunt to me; more like someone who is terribly frustrated.
And yes, her design is what got my attention instantly.
Luccini was also pretty good.
I have to ask what you see in Miyafuji though. I'm genuinely curious.

Besides her design. I like her motivated attitude and watching her get better as a fighter. But its been so long that I can't remember most of the details. Maybe if I watched it again, I would have a different opinion of her.
Also is Brave Witches worth watching?

Finished off Bomberman Jetters, and it is a very enjoyable series. Long story short, the plot is about the Jetters (A protection squad) protecting the unique items around the universe and stopping the Higehige-dan from stealing them. Overall, the series is divided up in about 6 different "parts" across two "main" arcs. The first part of both arcs is just a "villain of the week" episodes with the little spats that happen between the Jetters and the Higehige-dan, the second part is filler/joke episodes while also building up a "plot" that they were hinting at in the first parts, and, then, the actual finale itself which closes most of the threads establish.
Overall, as far as how good the story is, the show is mostly a comedy, but it really starts to sucker punch the viewer when it gets to the more dramatic parts of the story. First of all, the show mostly has the "adults" of the group telling the kids to mature, and refusing to treat them like mature individuals unless it's absolutely necessary; and then have the "kids" of the show who are trying to be mature, but then they're left out of the loop half of the time. Then the show also deals with the former leader of the Jetters completely disappearing, which you think would get old after a while, but they drag it on in such a way that it shows the characters actually going through the motions of learning to deal with it without it becoming tiresome. Also, if it means anything, early on, I started making the comparison that this show does have some similarities to Steven Universe, except this show actually DOES what SU claims to do (Except for the whole genderbender rape thing), and BJ is actually well made.
As far as the animation and look of the show, all of it gives this rounded, childish feel to it with a lot of extended or repeated frames. However, when they actually have to do the animation, none of it feels cheap or choppy. And, it does look like they actually put some effort in the designs and the art of the show. As for the audio, you'll be hearing the same 6 six tracks every couple episodes which pretty much queue up the same emotion every single time they are played. And, as for the voice acting, only White Bomber's gets old after a while, but that's when the start toning down the childish nature of the character.
Overall, I would very much recommend the series. I would have to say that it's one of the better animes out there.

Well, finished off Gunbuster and it was a terrible series to watch. Not in the way that Nadesico gave a middle finger to the viewers, but in that the entire show was underwhelming.
To get the positive points out of the way, the series is excellent to watch. All the animation is extremely fluid, detailed, and colorful, and really gives everything on the screen this, sort of, "life" that you just sit back in awe watching. As for the audio, all the music gives this grand and emotional feel to the series with the intent of being dramatic in every way possible. And, all of the sound effects sound like they're suppose to. And, not be cheesy about it. Don't know what else to say on that.
As for the story, oh GOD, it's terrible. The premise is that humanity is currently in a war with space dragons, and the protagonist of the series is one of the two girls assigned to fight in the "ultimate weapon", the Gunbuster. Now, with a premise like that, you'd think you'd see a lot of action but, oh boy, you're sadly mistaken. The first episode is about the girls just before getting deployed from her high school (Which is okay itself), but the rest of the series just drags on and on and on and on with the actual "war". Nearly ALL the action that you want to see happens offscreen, or is told about via dialogue. There is only about 15 minutes, out of all 6 episodes, which is actually fight footage, and most of that is the 5th episode because that is the only gives us everything we wanted see and expect. And, as for the actual plot, all of it hinges of the girls being faced with "the realities of war" meanwhile humanity is fighting a losing battle all the way. The only thing I can really say that the story does well is dealing with the results of time displacement in space, but that is it. Very little about this show is actually entertaining. If you want to watch a show with mechs (But care fuck all about the plot), watch Macross or Gundam Gurren Lagann or literally anything else. If you want to watch a something about characters traveling through space while dealing with time displacement watch Interstellar. I don't know why, but the more I try to explain this, the more upsetting it gets.

I have to disagree. I wanted to like the series, but it feels like it drags on a little too much in the second and third episode compared to the first "two episodes". Also, there was some amount of comfyness about the first two stories that seemed to be lacking in the later two.
To explain for those that don't know, DHR was originally going to be a hentai series, with the first episode reflecting that. Well, the first episode sold so well that the studio rewrote and edited the first episode to replace the hentai content (Retitling the episode "Rem Appears"), tacked on a "second part" (Entitled "Violent Dream! Dr. Death Resurrected"), and released it all as a package deal under the name Dream Hunter Rem Special Version: Sanmu! Yomigaeru Shinigami Hakase. From trying to find a download, it looks like ALL of the collected releases have the re-edited version of the first episode (Probably because the original hentai OVA was never released outside of VHS), so the original, unedited episode that has to be found separately.

Finished off two series this week.
The first one is Angel Cop. The premise of the series is that Japan has become the leader in the world economy, which has upset some very powerful people who seek to turn country into another puppet government or make it a desolate wasteland. To prevent this, the Japanese government has created an anti-terrorist organization call the the S.S.F. who are above all other organizations with the additional bonus of a license to kill. However, the S.S.F. are now on the run as it looks like someone else is pulling the strings. To explain the actual structure of the plot, it's a predictable conspiracy story that you can see coming from a few blocks away if you've paid moderate attention to world politics over the past 30-50 years (If you haven't, let's just say that things started back in 330 B.C., arguable 2340 B.C., and you can piece everything together from there). However, with that being said, it does feel like the series is rushing itself quite a bit, and feels like something was lost along the way. For example, the "main" protagonist of the series, the cold-blooded bitch Angel, goes from leaving her wounded partner behind in the first episode to actually caring about her comrades when they're dying left and right towards the end of the series (When the actual story itself just unfolds over the course of a couple days). Then, there's also the fact that once the series actually "ends", it feels like nothing was resolved and the actual end message is "Nothing was changed, Japan was lost,"; which leaves me confused in several different ways because I'm trying to understand if the writers were trying to make a political statement about Japan's place in the modern world or if they just ran out of time and figured "Hey, it's an ending" (Or maybe both, or perhaps the manga picks things up and resolves the plot). Anyway, the other thing that frustrates me about this type ending is that I've seen it done better in other places such as Blue Drop and Armitage III; where the former series ended with actually showing what the distant outcome of the anime's events was (However, I will forever say it is one of the worst endings I have ever seen, and still leaves me fuming to this day); and the latter ended with both of the main characters not being able to stop anything, but still riding off into the sunset once everything is over. In fact, Angel Cop reminds me of several different series, but I'll get to that in a moment.
The animation for the series is another aspect that I found to be a mixed bag because it flip flops between scenes being animated with as few frames as possible and some damn beautiful animation that shows exactly why digital can compete but never be able to match actual hand drawn animation. It can be argued that it's so that the studio doesn't go over the budget, but it's jarring as Hell to go from beautiful fight scenes to almost snapshot dialogue scenes. However, I didn't care for the overly-detailed art style they went with because it does some of the characters look very alien in appearance. Then there's the music, which is rather nice to listen to, that goes between someone laying on the piano keys to a sort-of soft rock.
Now, to get the main issue that I was having out of the way, it feels like everything that Angel Cop has to offer, I have seen elsewhere in other series (And done better). MD Geist, Ghost in the Shell, Armitage III, Mach Rider, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance; in fact, jumping off of that, Angel actually does remind me Major an awful lot when it comes to her designs, and then there's where another main character (Raiden) literally becomes a cyborg with a motorcycle. I wouldn't be that surprised if Angel Cop did have an influence on the development of some Japanese media (Like Future Boy Conan on Miyazaki's works, Go Nagai when it comes to the mahou shoujo and mecha genres and "the devil in me" stories, Tezuka when it came to kemono and moe), but, looking into it further, it looks like the reverse may have happened. MD Geist, Ghost in the Shell, and Mach Rider all came out before Angel Cop; which makes me wonder if it's ripping off of those instead of the other way around.

Also, to address the fact that many releases of this series is censored (Because, of course, any Japanese media that doesn't 100% agree with Western ideals is censored):
1. When will people get over the fact that when there's a negative reference to a group, and that reference is not in any favorable light, and that reference seems to reinforce a negative stereotype that people keep trying to say isn't true only to be proven wrong more often than not, perhaps there's something wrong with that that group (Itself) that should be addressed. And, that should be the main issue to the people in that group that they should attempt to be solving rather than trying to play it off as "unbiased prejudice" and continue it act like the scum that people go after them for being.
2. Just because a form of media rightfully calls out people for doing wrong and putting them in their place, that does not mean that the media, itself, is good. Loki's speech to the other Gods only worked because he was drunk and angry about how he's always punished while the other Gods can get off with much worse. Mercutio's rant only worked because the guy realize that he devoted his life and died because of a family feud that started over God knows what. Having a character pulling the same thing when they're in a sober state of mind and trying to make a statement without any sense of irony is NOT good writing. It's preaching, pure and simple.
Anyways, Angel Cop is a good series, but I have a hard time recommending it. Like I said, it feels like much of the series' material was done better in the other media that I mentioned earlier, and the actual quality of the show itself is much of a mixed bagged. If you're looking for a good conspiracy story, you can certainly do much worse, but Angel Cop will leave a feeling of wanting something more.
The second series that I want to talk about is Patlabor. The premise of the series is that the world is rapidly advancing in growth and expansion, which has given rise to the use of mechs to help with construction (Referred to as “Labors”). However, with this, this has also resulted in crimes starting to be used in conjunction with the robots. This has prompted the police to create a “Special Vehicles” unit to start specifically combating these crimes, with the series focusing on the members of the newly creates second division of the unit. To get something out of the way, this is not you're standard mecha series with action taking place every episode as the show comes off like it's trying to play off more as a police series. But, even then, I feel hesitant to describe the series like that. The first two episodes are do feel like actual police work, then you have two episodes of what amounts to filler, and, then, the last three episodes start touching upon dealing with mechs designed for military use. And, my main problem with this is that it I wanted to see more of the actual police work. I did like seeing how they initially slowed down and stepped away from trying to be “just another mech series”, but then it doesn't really feel like anything was actually done with it. However, with that being said, I wonder if my expectations where influenced about how the first couple episodes of Patlabor reminded me of my experience with Rail Wars!. Where I thought that was going to be a comfy train conductor series, only for the veil to be thrown off and reveal the series being about public safety enforcement.
The animation for the series has a more cartoon feel, especially I comparison to Angel Cop, and is actually a very smooth series to watch. There really isn't point in the series that I can point to where studio actually did cut corners in order to meet the budget. And, that's on top of how I really like the colorful pallet that the series used. Overall, I did enjoy, and would recommend, Patlabor, but I have a hard time saying that I actually liked it. It's possible the rebooted TV series, or films serving as a follow-up to the OVA, scratch that itch, but it the original series feels like it falls short of what it was trying to do.

>all that shit about Angel Cop
>not mentioning the full-on kike red pilling even once
I'm almost impressed
>the animation is inconsistent and the writing is rushed
The show had a massive break in between episodes 3 and 4, possibly due to budget concerns and lack of sales also that by show's halfway point, Japan's bubble economy burst, making the episode 1's opening about JAPAN HAVING THE LARGEST GDP IN THE WORLD look a bit embarrassing to say the least. It's possible a ton of rewrites occurred until it decided just to call out (((them))) and be done with it.
>I didn't care for the overly-detailed art style they went with because it does some of the characters look very alien in appearance.
I'm the opposite. By the time episode 6 came, I was aghast at how ugly, undetailed, and overly angular everyone looked. Raiden barely resembles his first appearances in the initial episodes, and Lucifer is just down right ugly. It looks like a completely different show.
>I have seen elsewhere in other series (And done better). MD Geist
Nigger no. MD Geist is trash. It's so bad it's awesome trash, but it's still barely coherent trash.
>Also, to address the fact that many releases of this series is censored
Don't tell me you watched the censored subs, because that's even more nonsensical than the original.
>Patlabor
>The first two episodes are do feel like actual police work, then you have two episodes of what amounts to filler, and, then, the last three episodes start touching upon dealing with mechs designed for military use. You clearly missed the point of the series; Patlabor's virtue is its versatility, that it can be a police procedural, a comedy, and a political show all at once.
>It's possible the rebooted TV series, or films serving as a follow-up to the OVA, scratch that itch, but it the original series feels like it falls short of what it was trying to do.
The first movie is basically the conclusion to the OVA, so watch that next. The 2nd movie is more like an epilogue to everything that's been built up in the OVA and first film. Also, it helps to know that Patlabor 2 is way more political, and way more ponderous and dramatic. All comedy is striped out in favor of ruminating on politics, terrorism, and the effects of martial law as well as Goto and Nagumo's relationship. It's my personal favorite anime film, but a lot of people hate it because it's when Mamuro Oshii basically began his descent into pretentious monologue film making that he's known for.
>rebooted TV series
It's not a reboot, it's just a separate continuity. If you like the first flick but hate the second one, watch the series, and its follow up, Patlabor: New Files.
The third Patlabor movie from 2002 is completely unrelated and barely related to the series.

Japan currently has the 3rd/4th high GDP i the world behind the U.S. and China (And India). So, it's still not that much of a stretch.
>Don't tell me you watched the censored subs, because that's even more nonsensical than the original.
No, I watched the uncensored version. But, the point I was trying to make is that there WAS NO reason for the censorship in the first place. On the one end, all that the censorship did was just show how afraid Westerners are of any criticism that comes towards a protected class, that only does nothing but boost the political message of the series. Then, you have the other side where that political statement didn't need to exist in the first place, as it adds nothing to the actual story itself aside from making a statement (On top of how it's hypocritical for the Japanese to be a little "high and mighty" about preserving their nation when they've been meddling in the affairs of Korea for centuries).
>You clearly missed the point of the series; Patlabor's virtue is its versatility, that it can be a police procedural, a comedy, and a political show all at once.

That asspull was bad. It's implied the little girl travelled back in time to save herself, but no context as to how to. The author probably thought that since the main point is that "people can choose to make changes necessary to be who they want", that it was enough in itself.

I just binge read Prison School. I thought it was an amazing first half making Gakuto and the Chariman god tier characters (with everyone likeable and important). Then a good second half with the girls in prison. Then a completely shitty arc with the tower people contest and the sidestory of the chairman with amnesia being attacked by a bear. I can't believe how many pointless chapters were wasted on that. Then I got to the end and I see why so many people were making threads on why they were disappointed. Its really shitty for the main goal of the protagonist to not reach his goal at the very end. I can see why people got into it but I am glad I never invested my time into reading this series as it came out chapter by chapter.

I just finished watching Kawaikereba Hentai de mo Suki ni Naremasu ka. It was a fairly average high school romantic comedy, so shit in general, but it had enough humor to see it through to the end. Boy, do I wish I hadn't. It had the most pants on head retarded plot twists imaginable at the end. One of the only good things about the show was Sayuki (pic related). Physically, she's pretty much perfect to me, and her personality is close, too. The MC was fucking retarded not to go for her, but I suppose that just goes with the show's message that if you're holding out for a 100% pure, vanilla relationship with a girl who only likes missionary with the lights off, you're going to be single for the rest of your life.

Coincidentally I just finished watching prison school. Ecchi comedy about 5 boys being imprisoned for peeping on girls, now targeted for expulsion by the student council of an otherwise all-girl school spearheaded by some bitch who's butthurt that her dad faps to latina ass. I enjoyed it for what it was. I like how much of the show focussed on the relationship between just 2 characters (Kiyoshi and Gakuto). No character felt redundant or lacked chemistry except for Andre, he was boring. Got hard when Kiyoshi and that blonde girl were hiding under the bed and he got a boner. Reminded me of Gokudolls but just a pinch less good. Watch it if you like B-grade shows which come just shy of overstaying their gimmick's welcome but thankfully fall short of crossing that thin line. JCstaff is good at that.
Before that I watched Cromartie High School and it was honest to God one of the most entertaining things I have ever seen, bar no kind of media. Comedy about a calm, strong willed pacifist who attends a delinquent high school where random xd humour ensues, but done right. Most pre-mid 2000s anime has a really dated sense of humour and alien atmosphere that doesn't translate well to zoombers such as myself, but I seriously couldn't stop laughing throughout almost every episode and I was sober too. It's part of the same genus as things like gag manga biyori, the humour comes from how the characters argue with one another in a sensible way about absolutely unsensible things, I can't put it into proper words just how well tuned and harmonic everything was. Episodes were the right length (10 minutes or so) for the show's peculiar style of comedy to work, characters didn't feel dumbed down or unmotivated despite their wackiness, gags were well thought out and built upon previous shenanigans. Great soundtrack. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

>Chi-Chan is most definitely British
Clearly the story is a futuristic allegory for the chaotic collapse of the Roman Empire, specifically the events of the migration period in a British context. Chi chan is an indigenous Romano-Welsh denizen (as denoted by her swarthy phenotype) who survived the anglo-saxon onslaught, and begrudgingly follows Yuu chan, a Saxon invader (obvious by her Nordic appearance), as her slave. Throughout the course of the show you can see the tension between Chi chan and Yuu chan over the slaughter and subjugation of Chi chan's people by Yuu chan's migrant tribe. Gradually, pressured by the hardships of survival in a bloody and cutthroat world, the bonds between master and slave become the bonds between kin, as Chi chan and Yuu chan end up interbreeding to create the modern English race.

>Some fans maintain that it is not a "true" Lupin title, due to Miyazaki's altering of the titular character into a bumbling hero, rather than his original ruthless criminal self.[41] Monkey Punch, creator of Lupin III, called Castle of Cagliostro an "excellent" movie, but agreed Miyazaki's vision of Lupin differs from his own. He said, "I wouldn't have had him rescue the girl, I would have had him rape her!"[19]

So, I just finished of the series Tekkaman and I didn't even know it.
The premise of the series is that WW3, and China, screwed up the Earth to the point that they only have 3 years left until the Earth is completely uninhabitable. And, the “top scientists” on the planet decide that the only solution is to search for a “Second Earth” somewhere out there in space. Except, humanity doesn't have the technology to actually go space-trekking outside of the solar system, so they have to develop the tech to actually go out and find that second Earth. And, for some reason, an alien alliance, called the Wildaster, want to invade Earth without waiting for the three years to pass and for humanity to die out. However, to stop this invasion, the U.N. space program create a secret patrol unit called the “Space Knights” with the leader, Joji, able to turn into the “invincible Tekkaman”. The rest of the series unfolds with each episode focusing on a each of the different approaches that the Wildaster take to invade and conquer Earth, with Rambos (The general of the forces, but not the leader of the aliens) focusing more and more of his sights on just being able to defeat Tekkaman. The plot of the series progresses where some of dramatics and events do feel rather silly, but none of it comes off as childish. In fact, it's almost unintentionally surreal with how (One example) an episode can start off with talking about how Earth children are making friends with robotic-talking space bugs only for things to escalate to where the cities on Earth are being terrorized by said bugs by literally frying every single person on screen. Then, there's also the fact that Joji's actual transformation into the Tekkaman seems like a rather painful process when you see it in full, and things just go on from there. Outside of it's silly moments, the series does have some idea of what it's trying to do, with Joji wanting to get revenge for the death of his dad, Andro (One of the Space Knghts and an alien fighting against the Wildaster) longing for the return to him home planet, the various groups on Earth increasingly panicking over how everything is going to die and the possibility of searching for a new home. And, it really does start building up on this towards the end of the series, however, according to ANN, the series wasn't doing too well in Japan, which resulted in it getting canceled half-way through with only 26 episodes being made: http://archive.ph/Q9Rhj#selection-1195.0-1195.103
And, the last episode being left on such a simple cliffhanger that it's really surprising that an OVA or film was released to rap things up, with the only later acknowledgments of Tekkaman being the spin-off Tekkaman Blade that was made 17 years later and the video games Tatsunoko Fight and Tatsunoko VS Capcom.
As for the animation of the series, it's “primitive” in design with a lot of stills and recycled animation, however none of it is actually bad. The art style leans on a more “stylized realism” manner with the world being the scientific future according to the 60's/70's (Before computers really took off, anyone remember punch cards and ticker tapes?). And, as for as the audio, it switches between the same six different tracks that are all used for the same situations. And, the full orchestra music (Even to the end of the series) still results in me expecting to see an episode of Scooby Doo coming on instead of a semi-serious space hero show. However, there's seems to be something about it all coming together that just adds to the charm.
Overall, Tekkaman is a good series (For it's time, and I hate to use that phrase because a product can be good regardless of when it was made). It's a simple “superhero” series with good guys and bad guys and they don't do anything to be subversive or innovative, they did it just because they think it melds with the story. However, I feel like this is a hard series to recommend because of the fact that it's so...”primitive” (For lack of a better word). Outside of wanting to see where things started (If you're a “media history buff”), there's little reason to go back and watch this series if you're looking for something of actual quality. Even the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Future Boy Conan (Both series made a couple years later) are “better” series in terms of quality. However, if you want something just goes “back to the basics”, there's really nowhere else to look than at series like Tekkaman. And, given the fact that I'm tired of how everything in recent years is trying to reinvent the wheel or show how "self-aware" they are, I guess I really like the fact that there's always stuff out there (That I haven't seen) that isn't.

RIP Monkey Punch, you'll be missed.
We lost our heroic-but-dangerous protagonists. Some threaded the fine line between brute and meek, like James Bond and Lupin, but they never crossed over. They were dangerous men, that you as the reader felt relieved they just happen to be in the "right" side of the story, but that they might very well have been villains had their motives been a little different. Conan is another great example of this archetype (seriously, if you haven't read the novels I urge you anons to do so, you can skip every other media Conan features in, but the novels are golden). He's less of a hero and more a force of nature. When Conan showed up in a village dominated by an evil wizard and decided to wear the wizard's colon as a shoe, the villagers were relieved he didn't look weird their way, glad his attention pointed somewhere else. And after he was done, he would claim a woman for himself, grab whatever gold he could fit in his loincloth and be gone.
Video embedded has a great take in this. On how heroes (knights) need both the meekness of civilization in them, but absolutely can't give up their aggressiveness for it.

Finished off the Wolverine anime, and it's an okay series.
The plot is that Logan's girlfriend is kidnapped and, after a year of searching, he finally finds out that she's in Japan and is being married off to owner of Madripoor Island (The center for all crime in Asia) so that her yakuza father can expand his empire. And, the rest of the series unfolds with expanding this simple plot over 12 episodes and dealing with all the different enemies and “allies” that Logan meets along the way that have their own interests in the game being played. In some way, it feels like the series delivers with everything you'd expect from a plot like that, but it's also a little bit underwhelming. For example, the beginning of the starts out with Logan being framed for killing one of his cop friends, but that point mostly solves itself once he gets out of Tokyo. Then there's the “bigger” issue where Madripoor is in a power struggle, with none of the fractions really being worthy of controlling the island, that mostly solves itself as well. In fact summing it up like that, the reason the plot doesn't feel fully delivered is that Logan doesn't actually feel that important to the story going on. All the characters use Logan to further their own interests, but everything still results in the events taking place had he not been involved at all. And, it probably doesn't help that his girlfriend doesn't actually feel at all resistant about the forced marriage until the last episode, with her being submissive the entire way. So, when you boil it down, the isn't even that interesting to talk about, which is quote a bit of a letdown due to how much I praised and enjoyed the Iron Man anime.
As for the animation of the series it is nicely made. The art style is rather attractive to watch, but some of the earlier in the fights in the series look a little silly with how little “activity” they depict. And, part of the silliness has to do with much of the music being guitar and drums filling most of the episodes and depicting a highly active fight.
Overall, I did enjoy the Wolverine anime, but I would not really recommend it. If you want something that is nothing BUT literal action, you may find it more enjoyable than I, but I didn't really care for how it starts out as filler and then tries to wrap everything up as quickly as it can towards the end.

Do you like old men, anon?
Recently finished Ristorante Paradiso. It was quite enjoyable, despite being a josei show it didn't have any BL, the show had a more 'mature' tone so there weren't any pure sexual moments which BL/fujoshi shows tend to have (like guys being fags or women living out their rape fantasies). Since the men were 'older' it catered to what I assume was a more mature subcategory of the fujoshi demography. Either way my point is that the show is quite good even if you're not a fujoshi.
The plot of the show is that the MC travels to Rome in search of her mother, who abandoned her, when she finds her they kinda make peace and she starts an apprenticeship at the restaurant her mother's husband owns. The mangaka for this is the same woman who wrote ACCA 13 and the shows structure is quite similar (as is the dialogue), each episode covers one of the camerieri's backstory.
The animation was good for what the show was, I especially enjoyed the soft colors that were being used. Only weird thing was the CG backgrounds that looked like they belonged in a PS2 game. I'd recommend this to anyone who would enjoy a more mature version of the SoL genre as it covers the daily lives of the cast but not in the typical 'daily hijinks' way that SoL normally does.

<a biscuit confectionery item composed of a crunchy and rich rectangular shortbread biscuit base topped with a chewy and soft caramel filling and a shiny milk chocolate topping.
<The shortbread gets its texture from butter, while condensed milk gives a creamy caramel filling, and good quality chocolate is the base for a soft, rich topping. Additional ingredients and occasional add-ins may be incorporated, such as ground almonds or semolina flour. It is prepared in stages, with the cookie-like shortbread base baked first, followed by the caramel and chocolate

Finished Koudelka (the manga) recently. Rather than an adaptation of the PS1 game, it instead serves as a follow up, set about a year later. Kind of interesting to see the direction that could have been taken, even if the PS2 sequels render it not canon (though chronology in the series is sort of odd anyhow; I didn't see anything that would have kept it from following the good ending), and it's pretty easy to see that Joshua's character design got repurposed for Halley in the first PS2 Shadow Hearts, though their personalities are pretty different. Still quite dark in content despite the difference in visual style and working with just black and whites, as opposed to the game's array of grungy colors, but it's understandably not the same setting as the game for most of it. Koudelka herself also has an interest deviation from her personality in the game (where she and the other two party members bicker so much one has to wonder if they won't just kill each other before the night's over), being shockingly kind. Then again, the people she's mostly interacting with, children and prostitutes, might simply be reaching a soft spot her "allies" in the game simply don't, since she's been both before at the same time. Becomes quite amusing later when she encounters Roger again, giving her the chance to act more like her game self prior.
I do think it gets a bit too "girl power" by the end in a way the game never did. I mean, I can sympathize during the earlier chapters, where it's mainly that the women at the whorehouse don't want their own daughters to be stuck in their line of work (it's the late 1800s and they're trying to get by), but the last few chapters kind of beat the reader over the head with a message that women can accomplish whatever they want because they're women; not so much from Koudelka herself, but rather Joshua, whose mother raised her as a boy, and very much considers Koudelka a role model. Also noticed that aside from the demons in the graveyard, every other antagonist is male, and very few who aren't outright enemies or children are actually shown as sympathetic.
Still an interesting aside to the game as a whole and gives some screencap-worthy panels, but could have wrapped up in a much less preachy way, and not really what I'd call a "must read" or anything for series fans compared to the games.

>Assassin's Pride
An interesting and unique setting was squandered on the anime equivalent of Twilight in which a super handsome, super talented vampire has to take care of a 13 year old girl. The show criminally underuses its setting and teases at an overarching plot, but in the end, exists to showcase how powerful the MC is and how loyal to the girl he is. To her credit, the girl is intelligent, a hard worker, and talented, putting her head and shoulders above most female main characters in shows like this, but as always with Japan, there's a permanently friend zoned childhood friend who is infinitely more talented and attractive involved. Pretty forgettable show overall.
>Senryuu Girl
I dismissed this show offhand when it aired after reading a description that made it sound like a serious drama along the lines of trash like True Tears and Tari Tari. What I got was a comedy series that actually gets laughs out of me with its charming cast. As each episode is only around 10 minutes long, the show maintains a brisk pace that ensures gags don't outlive their welcome. This is a must watch if you're in the mood for something to put a smile on your face, and Nanako is a miracle of the universe.
