IF YOU SEE THIS THREAD THEN MAKE A POST ON THE BOARD

If you don't think you have anything specific go to progress general and explain whatever you did since the last time you made a post.

If you were pathetic and did nothing in that timeframe shitpost in this thread.

JUST POST SOMETHING

This is how I shall revive this board

Anons who ignore this post are triple nodev

Little to no progress this month. Lost my enthusiasm, but figured out a method to convert anime styled pictures into decent looking pixel art. Doesn't work with non anime art as well because they have a higher range of colors.

I don't do any of the coding, I just make the assets. Fuck your nonsense draconian languages.

Lord where would I be without coders? I look at that magic and the best I can do is glean the functionality of it. If I try writing code, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Lord please

By your grace, dear god, never take my coders away. I need them.

Hey there. I'm the anon that was working on the FPS_Project for Unity3D. I've long since moved to Godot, renamed my project FPS_Framework, and got working on it.

At some point I realized my code base was basically unmaintainable spaghetti code and I was spending most of my time getting frustrated at how much time I was spending untangling code to try and continually increase the scope of the game without having anything to show for it.

I realized I was trying to eat the elephant in a single bite, and so I decided to just use one tiny portion of the code base to create a game that a person could play from start to end, and to give myself a three month deadline. https://github.com/blukatstudios/ManafestArena

The first release is up on itch.io now and I've realized that the code is still spaghetti, but just a smaller serving twirled around my fork. For that reason I'm taking some time to make some heavy refactors to that repo before starting a second version of the Manafest: Arena game that contains some of the nice-to-have features that I scrapped in the original. Once my FPS gameplay with RPG mechanics has been matured a bit more, I'll

The main lessons I've gotten more familiar with since since I last posted:

- composition over inheritance

- loosely couple stuff when you can

- don't repeat yourself / defensive programming

- don't be afraid to make something inefficiently on your first pass

- pay off your tech debt before you move on to new scope

Also, from studying some shit about society, I tend to agree that we live in the metamodernism era. Post-modernism was all about deconstructing thing, but now with metamodernism it's about deconstructing the deconstruction. Rebuild from the deconstructed. So the only way to success in our game is not the be original but we have to first deconstruct something, aka copy something. Give it a shitty twist and build something serious and deep out of it.

I calculated the slope of a line so I can shoot a projectile from an enemy at the player. Simple enough, right? (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) and it works obviously, and then I put those values into a 2D vector and voila the projectile shoots with the desired slope. The problem is, the farther away the shooter that the player is, the faster the projectile moves. Think about it, if the player if 3 units up and 4 units to the right of the shooter, then the projectile will travel at a 3/4 angle at a speed of Sqrt(3^2 + 4^2), or 5 units per tick, because basically I triangulated the distance to the player using this method and the projectile was moving at a speed equal to the hypotenuse of the triangle formed. Before I even playtested this formula I recognized the problem and though I could solve it by dividing both the numerator and denominator by the denominator, thus setting the denominator to 1 and the numerator to the slope of the line. This didnt work because even though this slowed down the projectile significantly, the hypotenuse of the triangle itself still didnt even out to 1, but always some number greater than or equal to 1. This was most visible when there was a large disparity between numerator and denominator because then it wouldnt take much dividing to reduce the denom to 1. For instance, if the slope of the line was 8/1.25 then both numbers would be divided by 1.25 which would become 6.4/1 meaning the projectile would have a speed of 6.4 units per tick. I racked my head for an hour trying to resolve this problem and it wasnt until I was typing out this problem that the solution hit me. I just needed to divide both numbers by the numerator the same way I divided by the denominator. By some black voodoo magic, that makes it so the hypotenuse of the triangle always equals 1. Think about it, if you divide both numbers by the same number, like 3/3, well 3/3 reduces to 1 and dividing a number by 1 wont change it so basically I altered the numerator and the denominator so that their hypotenuse always equals 1 while at the same time dividing the whole slope by 1 which wont change the slope. Basically, this:

private void ShootProjectile(Transform target) {
if (target == null) return;
float niggle1 = (target.position.x - this.transform.position.x);
float niggle2 = (target.position.y - this.transform.position.y);
float divisor1 = (Math.Abs(niggle1));
float divisor2 = Math.Abs(niggle2);
GameObject newprojectile = Instantiate(projectile, curpos, Quaternion.identity);
newprojectile.GetComponent<projectileBehavior>().SetVector(new Vector2((niggle1/divisor1)/divisor2,(niggle2/divisor1)/divisor2));
}

You play as a loli, shota, or intersex.

Intersex means that you are exactly halfway between female and male (a combination of being halfway towards development into female and halfway towards development towards male both merged together in a single being, the result of a perfect true 50/50 chimera of two opposite-sex fraternal twins in the womb during early stages of development).

You can set your orientation to heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.

This determines your which NPCs are options for your character's attractions, thoughts/behaviors, and available sexual/romantic experiences in the game, if heterosexual you will only have such experiences with humanoids and non-humanoids of the opposite sex, if homosexual, they will only occur with those NPCs of the same sex, and if bisexual, NPCs of both sexes are available. Do note that all NPCs (humanoid and non-humanoid) also have orientations that limit their interactions depending on your character's sex.

In this setting, there is no psychological aversion to being sexually attracted or active with multiple partners (there is no such thing as sexual monogamy, monogamy only counts for parenting), family members (such as parent/child, or sibling/sibling sexual relations), children (of any age, bit especially those of the ages that are over 5 years old and under 10 years old - 6, 7, 8, and 9 aka "true loli/shota"), non-humanoids (this goes both ways as well, because in this setting, every being that reproduces sexually is attracted to every other being which reproduces sexually by the other being's own standards of attractiveness, so a non-human would be attractred to a human by human standards and vice versa. Also, no living being has been changed by domestication, so there are no dogs, but there are wolves, no bulls or cows, but there are aurochs, etc.), and even corpses are not innately sexually repellent (making necrophilia with beautiful corpses a lot more common).

This setting has everything from all conceivable genres of fiction mixed together as much as possible, with as few limitations as possible placed on each of the things in this setting.

It takes place on an alternate earth where In a world where everything out of horror, fantasy, science fiction and all other fictional genres exist and as many of them are melded together as possible (for example the many concepts from sci-fi and fantasy which serve the same roles for RPG purposes), and where there is a planetary government that is basically a far-futuristic political system that hybridizes the nationalism of national-socialism with the capitalism of anarcho-capitalism to create a night-watchman-state minarchist government whose existing functions operate as they would under national socialism, with a bit of militant meritocratic technocracy thrown in as well as a lack of rules regulating sexual behavior such as polyamory, incest, pedophilia, homosexuality, bestiality, necrophilia, etc. as the NAP forms the basis of all laws regarding conduct between private entities, all ages can consent to anything, and the consent of non-humanoids and of the dead does not matter since they are property at best.

Your character's starting age (and the lowest age they can be at) is 5, your character is followed from this age until their death, and a new autosave file is made every time your character's age changes by a year (such as their birthday), through certain in game actions, you can manage to adjust your age and put aging off completely, depending on your setup decisions you can have all sorts of adventures, from lolicon and shotacon, to lesbian lolicon and straight shotacon, to a mix. All sorts of depraved sexual encounters await you.

The idea is a setting that is constantly being changed and added to by the player community.

Sex is basically performed by selecting an available part of your character's body and matching it up to an available body part of an available partner before confirming the resultant sex act (which is then described in text), you can also interact with items on you or the other in this way.

Combat is similar, but you select an item or action instead of one of your body parts when selecting your character's half of the interaction.

And yes, there can be rape or gore, lots of it if you like, but both can be turned off if you want, and both are disabled by default.

You could also participate in cannibalism if you wish, as human meat is even available for purchase at certain places in the game, kuru doesn't exist in this setting, but there may be other consequences besides disease to keep in mind.

BTW its supposed to be a sandbox RPG, there really isn't any main story, but there will be many quests to pick up and complete, which are also produced by the community.

Its basically like a tabletop RPG game more than a video game, you may win various campaigns, but the game itself is never truly finished.

Its text based, but you might also find some images or even videos down the line. Look forwards to that.

And yeah, your character will develop and grow as the game progresses, they might even transform physically or mentally as well along the way. Initially, Your character will age, but you may be able to change that if you want.

And you will be able to leave Earth and explore the universe, the tech certainly exists, and the colonies are far and wide, and expand ever outwards. But before you explore beyond colonial space, keep in mind that one of the genres of this game is horror, every genre of horror. Who knows what dwells there in the outer reaches if the void. There are more than enough horrors within the bounds of the colonies borders, the unknown things in the dark may be even worse than the known dangers within the light of the colonial boundaries.

The idea is something that feels more like an open-ended system and setting for traditional roleplaying and erotic roleplaying, with constant changes being made and new content being added, and customized everything for each individual session. Multiple universes and multiverses can be used to allow for anything to truly go, but with a system and setup that can easily apply to whatever the player wants to do with it.

Allow them to easily create a text-adventure software adventure for players to try out, under a signature system that is intuitive for new players to learn and use.

My inspirations include tabletop games, text adventures like Lilith's throne, and old school Japanese RPGs.

After 10 years of VM coding and having this "you can dump the core as an executable but it'll be 75MB" problem, I found out about Nim recently.

It's compiled, and compiles to C and I guess lets GCC or CLANG compile the actual machine code. So you get to leverage a compiler with a bajillion man-years of optimization without having to dick around with memory management all the time. You can also do "unsafe" code that dodges the GC, for critical loops and such.

You can also approximate the interactive development style through "hotreloading", apparently.

I'm pretty excited to start working on some retarded skeleton-punching simulator.

There's a better way: doing it via your linker. You can embed any file into your program and it will magically show up as a char or void pointer and a length integer. You can then use a proper build system like CMake and automate it.

When you do something, get it done. Now this doesn't mean that it has to be complete, just that you need to establish certain milestones and complete your specific task to reach that milestone. Don't worry too much about perfection as minor imperfections can be touched up later. Redoing your previous work is also a valid approach, but you can't redo previous work if you don't have work that you've done.
