I took the trouble to compile Aseprite 1.6 and thought you guys might get some use out of it. I was the guy that compiled 1.1.1 awhile back. Haven't been on here much because I drifted back to 420chan after 8ch became a shit, but it was fun while it lasted. This is still the best agdg around.
Re: aesprite, as you may know it's basically the best sprite editor in existence. $15 unless you compile it yourself from their git. They update it a LOT and it's just been getting better and better lately. Many people now use this instead of Photoshop for sprite work, even people who've used PS for like 10 years. Man, I haven't tried this yet but I remember you, if you are that guy who also compiled 1.1.1 . I have issues trusting random anons with viruses and things but you made a clean build back then so I trust you. It's a headache to compile and I'm still using 1.1.1. I think a lot of things were introduced since then.

420ch's always been my main spot; I've been there something like 8-9 years. (420chan's /b/ still has the best chan content on the internet IMO, but it moves so damn slow. There's still a lot of OC and not just pure shitposting; funposting I guess.) I just came to 8 because for the first time in a long time there was a highly-active chan that wasn't pure cancer. Reminded me a little of 4 around 2004-2008, glory days.
But /b/ started getting really edgelord/Stormfaggoty/overrun by /pol/. I know that social liberalism is mainstream now but worshiping Hitler and reveling in total lack of effort or motivation (Hitler would fucking hate 8ch stormers) isn't somehow countercultural. It's just another equally shitty and retarded conformist culture.
Also it tends to have a lot of loli content and that kind of triggers me, because like a lot of people, I do sometimes find girls as young as like 8 to be attractive, though would never do anything about it. It's not my main thing, but a cute 13 year old who is just coming into sexual awareness is definitely attractive. It doesn't help to see the content and get occasionally aroused by it, though. It rewires your brain I'm convinced. Less is better.
/agdg/ is still cool though, and I do enjoy my time here... I check in sometimes... hope all is well.

As for 420chan, I would try to visit that place more often, but it appears that it doesn't have https which is a deal breaker for me, and I don't think it has a catalog which greatly wastes my time browsing pages. I wouldn't want my isp to think that I'm visiting a board about drugs even if I have no intention at all of using them, as an example since they can see everything without https.
I do understand you how annoying it is to see all this /pol/ infestation on the entire 8chan, you have no idea how much it pisses me off that if you don't like Hitler or you're not a christian, you somehow get grouped with leftypol and all that shit and automatically like muslims, bombs, and feminists, I'm not a god damn sjw! I remember a time when we shat on all kinds of people, now there's this word degenerate which gets thrown around too much and loses it's meaning. I won't go in detail but there's all kinds of shit, it's the little things...
I do have to say that even though I disagree A LOT with many people here, it's still the best place for me to discuss anonymously. It has no set admins, everyone can make a board and if I don't like their rules then I can say fuck them and browse another board instead, fuck moderator abuse. And there's free speech, the most important thing which almost all websites lack these days. I just don't post so much because arguing all day with some (not all but many) idiots will just ruin your motivation, sanity and positivity. I think there are too many people who haven't been browsing image boards just copying behaviours in a shit way.

I think I'm gonna have to go back to 1.1, for whatever reason if you move the mouse cursor in this version the process uses 25% of my CPU and becomes uber choppy.

Ahhhh, dangit, that is balls-deep gay. I'm guessing you have a quad-core? It's probably putting 1 CPU at 100% usage. I did compile the most recent developer release, 1.1.6 (not 1.6, just realized), so it's possible it's not yet tested and has some issues. You can try the usual shit... running as admin, running in compatibility mode, etc.

And honestly, we are devs; I would totally understand not trusting random code. Still, I'm sure you'll see it scans clean on everything. Sandboxie, will have to check it out. Hmmm... seems like it's payware? And pirating the program itself would do no good, because then you'd have to run IT in a copy of itself (or VMWare)... heh. Catch 22.
But I do include instructions for compiling yourself if you want. It's not too hard (just takes awhile) and it's a good exercise overall.

Yeah, understand that about 420chan/https. I dunno, you can just use a VPN if the behind-the-times lacking https thing bothers you. Not end-to-end but it can't be traced back. The developer version of Opera has a free, unlimited use VPN baked in now; pretty sweet. So now I can run my normal VPN + another free one, and maybe throw Tor at the end if I want to be extra-retarded. Lack of catalog made up for by quality of posts and the fact that it moves too slow for that to be necessary, heh.
Yeah, the polarization and overtaking by Stormfront really pissed me off. The place has no site admins except /b/, somewhat ironically, heh. But on a lot of boards the admins are just little lords; the users make it all the worse. On the few boards I check out, here and /ipcam/ basically, the admins were always cool and were just there to keep out the spam/CP. But other places they're just shit. It would work if ideas weren't attached to board names from other chans; people could go to a /v/ alt for example because the name wasn't imbued with some magic, and nobody would know to go there unless they knew about it before. But because those names have "street cred" they are sought after. And so the user mods become hugely abusive, and sometimes are worse than site admins. /pol/ is certainly that way. Also /leftypol/ is hilarious, just a Communist version of /pol/ ... both are highly fascist/totalitarian, on a fucking website DEDICATED TO FREE SPEECH. It makes me sick to my stomach.
Your last line says a lot, too. Not many people know what is going on, and they just copy what they see. Kids, mostly... young teens are very impressionable and want to be part of a group. It's amazing that some of the posters on here weren't even born yet when 4chan was created.

This should be a working fix for the input lag/high CPU use problem. I ran into it myself. Updated from the git repo, recompiled and the binary size changed a lot, so looks like a new commit fixed this.

I just wanna thank you for going through the trouble of compiling aseprite way back when. If it weren't for you and /agdg/, I would've never gotten back into making sprites because I would've never heard about this great tool. It's *awesome* to work in and I eventually loved it enough to buy it directly from the dev and get those delicious automatic updates on Steam. The dev responds to feature requests on social media to help other devs btw, if you guys were curious.
Anyone here who hasn't given this shit a try.

I guess the bottom line is, 420chan /b/ is still occasionally funny, and 8ch's /b/ is generally super cereal. It had huge potential at the first exodus, when the pop was up but the feeling was still original and inspired. I did some good OC for 8, had some fun threads. I was 100% 8 for awhile. It was refreshing to be able to gorepost in response to roll threads, for example. 420 hasn't allowed gore for YEARS.
Then the stormfag/pony/pedo/travis cancer came in. And the low-quality shitposting. I'm all for shitposting, but it's gotta be funny and in moderation. Even as it slowed down the post quality didn't really improve. 420chan has such a low post count that it's basically dead, but at least the content is sometimes interesting, and they still value OC, so I take some time to produce it sometimes. Pic related, it's my best-known OC there, from probably a decade back, though doubt anyone here's seen it... I've met people IRL that have seen it and been able to have a laugh. Also, we have the rather dubious honor of being the chan that brought Pepe to fame...
