Anyone have a list of their top RPG Maker games?

I enjoy the simple aesthetic, and find the grinding rather soothing. Knight Eternal was the last one I enjoyed. The storyline isn't anything to write home about, but it kept me going for a good 10 hours. The skill system was a nice novelty that helped pick up what the story and writing lacked.

Porn games probably make up a large chunk of this genre today, so I'm not adverse to them, but if I can do the "good" storyline and avoid all the coomer shit, that would be ideal.

Treasure of Nadia is a RPGMaker game, by definition. Great game.

Hylics and Lisa the Painful are both RPGM. So are most versions of Corpse Party

I think Zeboyd's Breath of Death VII and Cthulhu Saves the World use it too but I'm not sure

There are a few good LISA fan games.

LISA: The Pointless

LISA: The Pointless - Phone Crew

LISA: The Unbreakeable

LISA: The Hopeful (this one is more game than a story).

Hey op, what other rpg maker games did you enjoyed?

I really like rpg maker games, but never played a simple high fantasy one, really would like to try one like this sometime.

I like that kind of rpgmaker games that have some cool aesthetics and music.

I recommend you off, gingiva, hylics, space funeral and if you are into that stuff, some yume nikki fangames.

Recently started 8-Bit Adventures: The Forgotten Journey and I'm enjoying it so far.

Ara Fell was alright, but I think I had higher hopes than what was eventually delivered.

The Learn Japanese to Survive series had a fun gimmick.

Elona (not RPG Maker, but very well could have been) - Citizens of Earth is in a similar vein to this, wasn't RPG Maker, but easily could have been… Makes me wish there were more Earthbound-esque RPGs.

I've tried Cthulhu Saves The World, but the humour wasn't for me.

Romancing Monarchy is probably next up on my list, unless I'm blown away by 8-Bit Adventures and decide to play the sequel immediately afterwards.

I hadn't realized the sequel for this hasn't been released yet. One I'll be waiting for though, this was a blast.

Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. Definitely the best RPGMaker game I've ever played

It's another Earthbound inspired game and wears that much more on its sleeve than most of that game's contemporaries, but while Earthbound is a huge tidal wave of whimsy washing over reality with a twinge of cosmic horror, JatPM is more a thin vernier of whimsy over a wide variety of different flavors of nightmare. The art is very good with cute, iconic, and horrific designs all over the place, and the characters are likable too. Also I HATE turn based combat but JatPM has a lot of variety that kept me switching things up and experimenting with different stuff all the time. Plus it has tons of exploration, tons of bonus content, and tons of minigames. Great stuff. Be forewarned though that it does have a bad habit of messing up your party dynamic as part of the story by forcefully swapping your characters around. Also the part in the city is… well not to spoil but it might make you laugh a bit but it goes on for far longer than the joke deserved.

Also, go out of your way to find secret content, it's well worth it for both the items and seeing what horrors you can find in their dungeons. They might kick your ass though so you might have to come back later; as far as I know the game never permanently locks you out of anything.

Thanks Anon, giving this one a shot now.

Unfortunately this kept crashing on me so I've passed on it. Starts abruptly, with your dad, the King, basically saying "Ok sweet, here's $1,000, go find the Dragon and some friends", so I'm going to assume I'm not missing out on much story-wise…

None since all the ones i've played like to use the default assets so much that i might as well be playing the same game from multiple perspectives, same with WolfRPG

Anybody here actually used Game maker before? Would it at all be possible to use it to make something similar to diablo 1 or 2?

You can make isometric games, you can capture mouse movement. Don't see why not.

Only thing stopping you is a ton of effort.
