If anything, we are going back to cartridges, also known as microSD cards. There should be a way to make them big and cheap at the cost of slow write speeds. Maybe make a huge ass stack of 64 cheap 8gb microSD cards in parallel, that should make a fast and cheap large storage device. Make a nice packaging and you got yourself the new floppy disk
I actually wonder if SSD drives don't actually do this
