Why do you think he still serves Big Boss in MG1? Because of loyalty? Because to "finishing the mission"? Because he was attempting to win Big Boss over on his side so that he could get his own power stakes?

It really should have been David Hayter doing the voice for Snake in Ground Zeroes and the early (late) parts of V, with Sutherland playing Venom. Obviously that would have given away the Mystery Box* aspect of the game, so they could just set those voice lines to unlock after you hit the final mission. Then when you replay any of the earlier content with the real Snake talking, it would be Hayter's voice.

Raiden throws away his dogtags at the end of MGS2. He is throwing away the player and their control over him, becoming his own man at long last. MGSV is the opposite, the player is the Medic who becomes Venom and then embraces becoming Big Boss.

Metal Gear is not deep its just convoluted with shit loads of twists and exposition masquerading as depth.

George Lucas syndrome. Kojima got way too big, surrounded himself with yes men who and an inexperienced crew that was too scared to challenge or reign him in on his ideas and he was completely unrestricted by limitations in technology too. Real creative works that are interested are filtered through these restrictions and the ONLY one Kojima had was time. He really needs someone to brush over his shit and filter stuff out. This game has like 5 fucking endings, meandering plot points that go no where, and a cluster fuck main story that is so scatterbrained that it doesnt make sense. Also full of fan service shit.
