Brought by the same guys as Little Big Planet, it's the type of game where you can make anything you want and show it off online. What do you think of it?

Personally I've seen spectacularly made fan recreations of other games. But that's the problem, they are recreations made within even more development restrictions. They are always inferior copies of the original that offers nothing but bragging rights that you spent an entire day making something really shitty. The limitations to the in game tools are striking and make everything feel very dopey. Little Big Planet 10 years ago was better because the in game tools pushed you towards an established "this is what you are supposed to do" set of gameplay mechanics, and it was fun with multiple people. Dreams feels like a really floaty "hurr look what I made" meme generator.

Just because you're looking at meme dreams doesn't mean people aren't making actual games of their own. It takes time to learnt the tools. Embed related.

You can't really make what you want because the game sets you back on the size of the game. Like if you made your Dreams game with detailed graphics and textures you'd use up all the thermometer easily and you couldn't expand it unless you tone down on the detail.

Just make connected scenes. There's no need to have one scene as the entire dream.

How many scenes can you make then? I'd find it unbelievable if you can make a highly detailed game graphically and texture wise then just make new scenes that make the thermometer go back to 0%.

There is no limit. What you're saying is literally what Mm did for their showcase campaign that seemingly flows without scene changes. Most of the time you don't even notice a new scene has been loaded in. (If you're wondering about filesize, only recorded audio iirc is using space. There's no polygons in Dreams, everything is math wizardry. It's why playing levels doesn't change the installation size, since the game is just "replicating" them each time.)

Cutscenes are a good example. There's a detailed model and animations for the characters in one scene using part of the same assets from the previous scene - but the animation itself doesn't count for the thermo in the previous scene, obviously. When the cutscene ends, a new scene that's a remix of the original one is now loaded with whatever comes next. It's trickery. 12yos making the next fucking Skyrim with Shrek in one scene are just that, 12yo.
