I have a fetish for giant monster. It's of course a platonic, non-sexual fetish. They fascinate me. Sadly many games include them as just scenery, but I think even there they can at least invoke a bit of fear in you. More so, when you were a child.
I would love it, if there was a tech demo game, where it was basically just about a Giant Monster roaming the replica of a real city like Assassin's Creed and them just demolishing it. I luckily managed to have quite a few nightmares about this as well. It was basically a fantastical version of my city. The church was 10 times bigger than it was IRL and a valuable refuge from the Monster. It also had an expansive catacomb system under it, which I used to escape.
While I like the theme of Giant Monsters and the cinematic nature of them appearing on the screen, sadly many games can't think of a better way to simulate fights with them, except through button-mashing quick time event.
Anyway what do you think? What games have your favourite Giant Monsters?

Unironically it's actually a pretty good game, but if I remember correctly you can't kill any t-rexes with a pistol or machine gun instead you just hold them off by killing pterodactyls or you shoot at them cause them to stagger so you can run away from them.

Dragon's dogma definitely, nothing like running into a wyrm (way before you're supposed to, and even then the first "mandatory" wyrm is very strong even if you're overleveled and have good gear), thinking you can take on it because you just killed a couple chimeras and cyclops' in the forests, and then realizing that you can't even reach the fucking thing (he flies high up in the air and the wind pressure generated from the flapping of his wings throws you off balance), and that it nearly oneshots you with his most basic attack: the fireball. He's also fucking massive, so all his physical attacks will hit you and reaching his weakspot is a nightmare unless you're running a class that uses a bow.
Anyway, have you tried City Shrouded in Shadow?

It's a ps4 exclusive, fairly rare (got a reprint in 2019, but it ran out immediately, you don't want this version anyway, it has a huge yellow sticker on the cover art) and it never got a release outside of japan, so good luck.

OP, if you're looking for games that deal with having to fight giant monsters without QTEs, you have most of Platinum's games, Monster Hunter, Lost Planet, Freedom Wars, EDF, Metroid, Shadow of the Colossus, Half-Life, just about any 3D Sonic game, Cave Story, Star Fox, just about any shmup (Sol-Feace and Galaga Arrangement come to mind), a few of the bosses in WB's shooters (The Suffering, Area 51, F.3.A.R.), THoTD, and that mostly sums it up.

The premise was wonderful, but sadly the game is very mediocre. The monsters have pretty stiff animations and fights and they cycle. Basically, if you find a safe spot to stand you can stand right next to the two monsters shoving each other and never worry about a thing. I highly recommend you look up some gameplay footage. It’s a bit rough.
