When all other stores are shutting down due to coronavirus, they had the balls to defy law enforcement to stay open to serve their few remaining customers. No need to wear a mask because that would scare their consumers of their fine gaming products. They even label themselves as an essential retail store like those you'd find in a pandemic. When I'm shopping for the latest TP and food to get me by for the week, I always go to the local gamestop to buy my mountain dew and Dorito's and the shittiest gaming magazine to whip my ass on. It's good to know that in a crisis or when it's the end of the world, my local Gamestop will be open to serve me in my time of need. The store we need but don't deserve.

I would have put up an archive.is link instead but it's queuing at over 2,500 at this current time.

Yeah, if they were fired for following the law they could probably sue for a lot of cash.
I don't really see the big deal with gamestop staying open though, at least where I live there's always less than half a dozen people in there at any one point. Just limit the amount customers, so no midnight releases, and have the employees actually grab the product for the customer.

I hope the employees have enough self respect to say “fuck it” and quit. When I worked there as a “””key holder””” (ie: somebody with all the responsibilities of an ASM without the pay) I made less that a fast food employee makes and was constantly being abused by the management. It wasn’t worth the pay and it sure as fuck isn’t worth getting a horrible illness over.

Very rarely, when nowhere else here has something I've been looking for for a long time, and only when the price is lower than online (counting shipping). I don't buy a lot of current games to begin with though, and being that they only really stock back through seventh gen at their actual brick and mortar stores (in increasingly low quantities and ever worse conditions), that's even less reason for me to waste my time there. And I sure as fuck wouldn't order from their website, after the state of what I've seen anons get sent in the past.
I suppose that, when it comes to occasions I actually feel like spending money on vidya, I'm just lucky there's still other options around here, some of which indeed shit but others that can prove quite good on occasion. Meanwhile someone I know who lives out of state's only options for buying vidya are fucking gamestop and a ridiculously overpriced multimedia shop (with prices roughly double what the same games go for here, regardless of condition or completeness).
Only concern I really have about gamestop possibly going under is that it might impact whether publishers are still apt to bother with physical prints. I know amazon, best buy, and walmart are still things, and gamestop going under could give rise to new businesses that might be more consumer friendly, but publishers love to cut out production costs and keep digital prices high, especially when there's no aftermarket to worry about (and sometimes even when there is).

Depends on where you live. Fucking gamestop pretty much choked out everywhere they could in-town that was game-focused competition, and of course they got aided in video places that did vidya on the side, like Hollywood Video, going under too. Other towns around here fared better with gamestop not being every couple miles or so, and are within reasonable driving distance, so there's a smattering of other game stores in them. But while it seems like things have gotten better around here in that some of the gamestops have closed, apparently it's still considered too much of a risk for anyone to open an independent vidya store, or for one of the small chains in other towns to get a closer location.
Tangentially related, but I find it funny how GameCrazy's price stickers tend to come off cases so much easier than gamestop's do, even when they're a good 10+ years old now.

Yeah I did about 15 years ago.
I don't know why console manufacturers didn't sell everything from their own stores as soon as broadband became available and widespread about 20 years ago. They should all have complete dominance of the game sales market but it took them forever to even start. Microsoft should also own the game sales market on PC but thankfully they failed that too. Apple got it right from the start and look what happened.
I'm not talking about what's right for the consumer, obviously.
