FULL SPECS REVEALED

Xbox Series X: A Closer Look at the Technology Powering the Next Generation

http://archive.is/CKPOa

Inside Xbox Series X: the full specs (Eurogamer):

http://archive.vn/H6CFg

>powered by an 8 core AMD Zen 2 CPU and an RDNA 2-class GPU

>As expected, we're getting eight CPU cores and 16 threads, delivered via two quad-core units on the silicon, with one CPU core (or two threads) reserved for running the underlying operating system and the front-end 'shell'. Microsoft is promising a 4x improvement in both single-core and overall throughput over Xbox One X - and CPU speeds are impressive, with a peak 3.8GHz frequency. This is when SMT - or hyper-threading - is disabled. Curiously, developers can choose to run with eight physical cores at the higher clock, or all cores and threads can be enabled with a lower 3.6GHz frequency. Those frequencies are completely locked and won't adjust according to load or thermal conditions.

>Series X processor is actually capable of running four Xbox One S game sessions simultaneously on the same chip, and contains an new internal video encoder that is six times as fast as the more latent, external encoder used on current xCloud servers.

>4K60 and 120fps performance targets

>support for hardware accelerated DirectX Raytracing, which simulates the properties of light and sound in real time more accurately than any technology before it

I seriously have no fucking clue what's going on with the Microshaft console naming. First there was the Xbox, then there was the Xbox 360, and then… I'm lost. Xbox One? As in the first one? Xbox One S(hit)? Xbox One Xbox? Xbox series Xbox? What the flying fuck? Just fucking number them you retards, Sony did this correctly. PSX, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS4 Pro (small upgrade) and then PS5.

Soytendo always went with gimmicks and so numbering doesn't make sense for them as the systems were barely related to one another, the only thing that connected them was getting the same old games as ever. You got your Super Cuck Mario, Twink Zelda, Smash My Ass Bros, Pokeyman, Metroid and the rest of the 5-10 year old target audience games.

Unless you've been playing on PC your entirely life, this shouldn't be a surprise, loading has been that way for Open World games since at least GTA Vice City.

The game has to load the entire game world, and then once that initial loading is done, any loading afterword "should" be minimal.

The only reason why this problem of long loading times hasn't been solved is because the power of better resources each generation keeps going into making a game word that is even bigger, and more detailed, which makes it even harder to load. so in terms of loading times no progress has been made, since everyone accepts that's the price you have to pay for your game to look nice. The loading times for DMC 5 aren't too bad on PC, but I'v heard they are abysmal on Console, and that makes sense given how needlessly detailed that game is, since in order for DMC5 to have been a success the higher ups at Capcom knew they needed to Graphics to be a good as possible, loading times be damned.

Appears to have a latch there, so probably. I don't see what's wrong with that, if your AA batteries run dry all you have to do is just swap them out in a few seconds instead of being tethered via cable for some minutes. If you don't want to use disposable batteries you can just get some eneloops or other rechargables.

They can't because it's psychological. If you put a "Xbox 4" and a "PS5" next to each other, normalfags will buy a PS5 because 5 is greater than 4.

It's the same reason why Nintendo doesn't do that and went with gimmicky names.

>The game has to load the entire game world, and then once that initial loading is done, any loading afterword "should" be minimal.

that's not how it works, especially with the limited ram on consoles. not even PCs could hold the whole map in memory (and if they could access would be pretty much instant outside loading calculations).

game assets got bigger both in size and sum, so more stuff to render and calculate, which means more to load from a harddrive - and those haven't necessarily become faster over the last decade. 5400 is still the go-to option because price/noise/thermals (if they even support new features, ps4 is still gimped). and with limited ram consoles even have to constantly swap more shit (if it's even set up this way, iirc battlefield still loads everything every map change, no idea if they changed it by now).

then there's also the whole multiplayer stuff, some games need to constantly check shit before getting you into the world, so even on SSDs it can take a bit before shit got send back and forth and verified etc.

I worded myself poorly. I didn't intend to say the game has the entire game world in memory at the same time. Just that the initial loading process is the longest one, and if the game is programmed well, you shouldn't be seeing the game load anything more then the beginning of mission after the initial loading process.

The example I'm thinking of in my head is Spider-Man Web of Shadow's, which will never have you see a load screen in the open world after it's first loading process, unless you dedicate yourself to getting to the max swing speed level, and even then you pretty much have to Want to make the game load purposefully.

What else can the Xsex advertise? We have hit a point where the graphics don't look that different between the generations. They certainly won't compensate by making good games. So I really don't see the point of the PS5 or Xbone Cuck series XXX when you can build a PC that will be upgradable, like the only console that's kinda worth getting is Bing Bing wahoo due to it having some decent games compared to the other two, but even then you can just get the roms on PC and have it run even better with Mod support just look at BOTW.

I think the most concerning thing will be price. I don't expect a dime less than $500 for the kit. Probably $549 or $599 to retail, without tax.

>So why get this when you can wait literally build a PC with 12 cores as the norm if the Ryzen zen 4 rumours are true and have free online along with piracy , mods , 4k 140HZ 100+FPS and upgradability?

Because consolefags don't care about PCs, piracy, mods (Fallout 4 on console has them) and the kind of PC that would compete with the XSeX would cost about $1000 bucks right now.

>Zen 4, 12 cores

You're skipping Zen 3. Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) will probably be followed by Zen 2+ (Ryzen 4000) which will simply be improvements and cost reduction, similar to Zen+ (Ryzen 2000). AMD is essentially following Intel's old tick-tock scheme which Intel gave up on since they can't sort out new processes fast on their fabs. 12 cores is hopelessly optimistic, they said Zen 2 will have 8 cores on the 3600. It didn't. The rumour mill on AMD gear is always hopeless optimism.

>PCs have been doing multitasking similar to this for a long ass time.

Have they? I'm on PC now, and I certainly can't save my game state instantly and put it on my HDD or SSD. Definitely not without some clunky third party software that barely works. Emphasis on barely works. I think you're confusing alt tabbing and save states, two completely different things.

if true, i'm actually surprised by how little anyone noticed the corner cutting

my family used to run a rental store back in the day, so i had all 3 consoles back then and a lot of vidya for all of them, we used to buy multyplats for as many consoles we could but eventually we just started buying them for PS2 only because nobody was renting the Xbox due to the controller being a big black brick, even the FIFA/W11 niggers didn't notice any difference and they all were bunch of graphix whores, i do remember the racer faggots claiming the cars looked shinier on Xbox but that's about it

>never heard of it

Of course you never heard of it you can probably just look at a list of Original Xbox games and easily find hundreds of games you never knew existed, that are going to be just as interesting as equally obscure games that are on any other console, the main difference is that Xbox PC emulation isn't on the same level as emulation for other consoles, so anything on Xbox is going to be even more obscure due to needing an actual Xbox, and not just an emulator.

Defining the Next Generation: An Xbox Series X Technology Glossary

As we enter a new generation of console gaming with Xbox Series X, we’ve made a number of technology advancements across hardware and software that will take your gaming experience to the next level. We’ve created the below guide to help familiarize yourself with some of the new terms we’re introducing to describe the tech and functionality of Xbox Series X.

Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) – As part of commitment to responsiveness for the next generation of console gaming, Xbox Series X supports Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) with capable displays. ALLM automatically enables your display’s lowest latency mode when you start playing. This functionality exists on Xbox One consoles today

Backward Compatibility – At Xbox, we’ve made a promise to compatibility: you can expect thousands of your favorite games across four generations of gaming, your Xbox One gaming accessories, your Xbox gaming legacy, and industry-leading services like Xbox Game Pass to work with Xbox Series X. Backward compatible games will benefit from the power and performance of Xbox Series X, resulting in steadier framerates, faster load times, improved resolution and visual fidelity. Fans and game creators can feel confident they will be able to play and create the best version of their games on the Xbox Series X.

DirectML – Xbox Series X supports Machine Learning for games with DirectML, a component of DirectX. DirectML leverages unprecedented hardware performance in a console, benefiting from over 24 TFLOPS of 16-bit float performance and over 97 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of 4-bit integer performance on Xbox Series X. Machine Learning can improve a wide range of areas, such as making NPCs much smarter, providing vastly more lifelike animation, and greatly improving visual quality.

DirectStorage – DirectStorage is an all new I/O system designed specifically for gaming to unleash the full performance of the SSD and hardware decompression. It is one of the components that comprise the Xbox Velocity Architecture. Modern games perform asset streaming in the background to continuously load the next parts of the world while you play, and DirectStorage can reduce the CPU overhead for these I/O operations from multiple cores to taking just a small fraction of a single core; thereby freeing considerable CPU power for the game to spend on areas like better physics or more NPCs in a scene. This newest member of the DirectX family is being introduced with Xbox Series X and we plan to bring it to Windows as well.

Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) –Another innovation we are making to reduce latency for Xbox Series X is Dynamic Latency Input (DLI). With DLI, developers can more accurately synchronize the player’s input with the game’s simulation and render loop, even further reducing input latency while playing the game.

GPU Work Creation – Xbox Series X adds hardware, firmware and shader compiler support for GPU work creation that provides powerful capabilities for the GPU to efficiently handle new workloads without any CPU assistance. This provides more flexibility and performance for developers to deliver their graphics visions.

Hardware Accelerated DirectX Raytracing (DXR) – From improved lighting, shadows and reflections as well as more realistic acoustics and spatial audio, raytracing enables developers to create more physically accurate worlds. For the very first time in a game console, Xbox Series X includes support for high performance, hardware accelerated raytracing. Xbox Series X uses a custom-designed GPU leveraging the latest innovation from our partners at AMD and built in collaboration with the same team who developed DirectX Raytracing. Developers will be able to deliver incredibly immersive visual and audio experiences using the same techniques on PC and beyond.

Hardware Decompression – Hardware decompression is a dedicated hardware component introduced with Xbox Series X to allow games to consume as little space as possible on the SSD while eliminating all CPU overhead typically associated with run-time decompression. It reduces the software overhead of decompression when operating at full SSD performance from more than three CPU cores to zero – thereby freeing considerable CPU power for the game to spend on areas like better gameplay and improved framerates. Hardware decompression is one of the components of the Xbox Velocity Architecture.

>>16879501

Intelligent Delivery – Microsoft’s developer facing technology to reduce the size of game installs. Intelligent Delivery empowers developers to only install the pieces of the game you need, thereby minimizing the amount of content that needs to be installed or downloaded to the SSD.

Latency – Latency refers to responsiveness of the console and controller, including the time it takes for your input to be registered by your console and then displayed on your screen. Reducing latency results in a more connected and immersive experience. Xbox Series X will be our most responsive console ever featuring ultra-low latency with advanced technology that minimizes latency at every stage of the gaming pipeline so that you instantly see the impact of your actions on the screen.

Mesh Shading – Mesh shading will enable developers to dramatically improve the performance and image quality when rendering a substantial number of complex objects in a scene. As an example, mesh shaders could enable the player to experience asteroid belts and fields of flowers in more pristine detail without seeing a loss in performance.

Native Resolution – Native Resolution is an Xbox Series X backwards compatibility enhancement for select Xbox One games that allows them to render at native 4K even if they weren’t originally designed for 4K.

Optimized for Xbox Series X – Games built using the Xbox Series X development kit and designed to take advantage of the unique capabilities of the Xbox Series X. These include new titles built natively using the Xbox Series X development environment as well as previously released titles that have been rebuilt specifically for Xbox Series X. They will showcase unparalleled load-times, visuals, responsiveness and framerates up to 120 fps.

Parallel Cooling Architecture – Parallel Cooling Architecture is the name of the innovative system design used to cool Xbox Series X. Building a console that delivers four times the processing power of Xbox One X in the most quiet and efficient way – something that is critically important with all the extra power of our next generation console – led to its unique vertical design.

Project Acoustics – Incubated over a decade by Microsoft Research, Project Acoustics accurately models sound propagation physics in mixed reality and games, employed by many AAA experiences today. It is unique in simulating wave effects like diffraction in complex scene geometries without straining CPU, enabling a much more immersive and lifelike auditory experience. Plug-in support for both the Unity and Unreal game engines empower the sound designer with expressive controls to mold reality. Developers will be able to easily leverage Project Acoustics with Xbox Series X through the addition of a new custom audio hardware block.

Quick Resume – A new feature powered by the technical capabilities and the innovative Xbox Velocity Architecture in Xbox Series X, Quick Resume enables players to seamlessly switch between multiple titles and resume instantly from where you last left off.

RDNA 2 – The custom designed processor in the Xbox Series X leverages RDNA 2, the latest next generation graphics architecture from our partners at AMD. RDNA 2 provides a significant advancement in performance and efficiency as well as next generation graphics features such as hardware accelerated raytracing and variable rate shading.

Sampler Feedback Streaming (SFS) – A component of the Xbox Velocity Architecture, SFS is a feature of the Xbox Series X hardware that allows games to load into memory, with fine granularity, only the portions of textures that the GPU needs for a scene, as it needs it. This enables far better memory utilization for textures, which is important given that every 4K texture consumes 8MB of memory. Because it avoids the wastage of loading into memory the portions of textures that are never needed, it is an effective 2x or 3x (or higher) multiplier on both amount of physical memory and SSD performance.

SDR to HDR Conversion – With Xbox Series X, existing Xbox games, including recent titles within the ID@Xbox program, that don’t already have native HDR support will get the next-gen treatment. Xbox Series X is able to leverage an innovative HDR reconstruction technique to enhance existing SDR games with no work from developers and no impact to available CPU, GPU or memory resources.

Smart Delivery – Smart Delivery is a new technology introduced with Xbox Series X that will ensure you always play the best version of the games you own for your console, across generations. All Xbox Game Studios titles that are optimized for Xbox Series X, including “Halo Infinite” will support Smart Delivery, providing the best available version for whichever console you choose to play on. For example, this means if you purchase the Xbox One version of a supported title, we will identify and deliver the best version of it to your Xbox One, as usual. If you decide to jump into the next generation with Xbox Series X, we will automatically provide the Xbox Series X optimized version of the game at no additional cost if and when it becomes available. Smart Delivery is available to all Xbox developers.

Spatial Audio – Spatial Audio delivers deeply immersive audio which enables the player to more accurately pinpoint objects in a 3D play space. With full support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Windows Sonic, Xbox Series X has custom audio hardware to offload audio processing from the CPU, dramatically improving the accessibility, quality and performance of these immersive experiences.

TFLOPS (Teraflops) – TFLOPS (or “teraflops”) stands for Trillion Floating-point Operations Per Second and is a measure of raw mathematical performance of a GPU. While Xbox Series X delivers 12 TFLOPS of 32-bit float performance, two times that of the Xbox One X, the architectural efficiency improvements brought by AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture plus our next generation features such as Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and hardware accelerated DirectX Raytracing means that Xbox Series X will deliver well over twice the effective graphics performance of Xbox One X for games.

Variable Rate Shading (VRS) – Variable Rate Shading increases GPU efficiency by concentrating shader work where it’s most needed and reducing shader work in areas where it won’t be noticeable. With minimal developer effort, VRS significantly improves GPU performance resulting in more stable and higher resolutions and frame rates with no perceptible loss in visual quality.

Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) – Variable Refresh Rate is a new addition to HDMI 2.1 which enables capable displays to refreshed as fast as the console can render images, thereby eliminating tearing, increasing smoothness, and reducing latency. We have been working with the industry’s leading TV manufacturers to ensure the display ecosystem is ready for the features we are bringing with Xbox Series X.

Xbox Series X Storage Expansion Card – Built in partnership with Seagate, this 1 TB custom storage solution expands storage capacity of Xbox Series X with the full speed and performance of the Xbox Velocity Architecture Previous generation Xbox titles can still be played directly from external USB 3.2 hard drives. However, to receive all the benefits of the Xbox Velocity Architecture and optimal performance, Xbox Series X, optimized games should be played from the internal SSD or Xbox Series X Storage Expansion Card.

Xbox Velocity Architecture – The Xbox Velocity Architecture is the new architecture we’ve created for the Xbox Series X to unlock new capabilities never-before seen in console development. It consists of four components: our custom NVMe SSD, a dedicated hardware decompression block, the all new DirectStorage API, and Sampler Feedback Streaming (SFS). This combination of custom hardware and deep software integration allows developers to radically improve asset streaming and effectively multiply available memory. It will enable richer and more dynamic living worlds unlike anything ever seen before. It also effectively eliminates loading times, and makes fast travel systems just that: fast.

Xbox Wireless Protocol – One of the first points to reduce latency is within the communication between your controller and your console. By bringing our existing high-bandwidth, low-latency wireless protocol on the Xbox One family of devices to Xbox Series X, we’re able to not only reduce latency in your gaming experience but also ensure all of your existing Xbox One gaming accessories will be compatible with Xbox Series X.

Zen 2 – The custom designed processor in the Xbox Series X leverages AMD’s latest Zen 2 CPU architecture. Zen 2 provides a significant advancement in CPU performance delivering more than 4 times the performance of an Xbox One X.

120 FPS – With support for up to 120 frames per second (FPS), Xbox Series X allows developers to exceed the more traditional 60 FPS in favor of heightened realism and more precise controls for fast-paced action.

You underestimate just how much some people don't want to bother with using an actual computer to play games, and prefer a dedicated system.

Halo MCC came out on Steam, and in order to get my brother to play with me and my other brother, we had to dust off his tower PC that we built out of parts we weren't using anymore due to getting better ones, and booted it for the first time in over a year, aside from us all getting to play Halo, he was fine just playing whatever multi plats are on Xbone since Xbox Live is where all his online friends are.

The Xbox Series X could be exactly the same as a "Steam Box" but it will likely be far more successful since people who know Steam and want to use Steam have an actual gaming PC, and no need for a gaming only dedicated box, but people who don't want to deal with setting up and using a PC, they know Xbox so they are going to buy whatever the Series X is regardless of how comparable it is to PC and Steam. Objective quality isn't as important as familiarity.

Considering how lackluster the ps4 has been, especially considering how much worse consumer wise compared to the ps3 (no backwards compatibility until they realized they couldn't use it as ransom for PSnow and even then they only put out a tiny few ps2 games, paid online for no fucking reason even though they were already guzzling down shekels on ps+ subscriptions anyway iirc double dipping if you wanted to play a PS3 game online despite ps3 online play being free, removing Directinput controller support meaning you're straight up fucked if the PS4 controller ever goes out of production, nearly the only games worth playing on it being remakes), it's probably best they keep quiet. Even if they announce tomorrow they're backpedaling on most of the garbage they did last gen it'd probably fuck them up.

>You can build a rig for 600$ that can run majority of games 1080p 60 FPS and you can always upgrade to better parts latter down the line.

That's beyond the point. This console could easily run just about anything at 4k 60 FPS since the Xbox One X already can do that now thanks to optimization. Try to fit a Ryzen 3700, RX 5700 and 1tb NVME SSD under $700 (what I imagine is the top end of what this thing will cost, although I am still set at $549 or $599.) This is just a quick PCPartPicker I tossed together of mostly the cheapest parts. You can be a bit more liberal and remove up to $100 with sales and by choosing the actual cheapest, then add that back again when you count that I didn't add everything else you need like the case, monitor or power supply. You're still forgetting beyond that, that people who buy consoles aren't people who would know or care about how to build their own PC either, and if they went the prebuilt route you can add on an extra $100 or $200. There isn't much overlap in markets.

>Not wholly as AMD has been making more cores available to the mainstream, but I do agree people are way too optimistic.

"Ryzen made 6 and 8 core cheap" is just a false statement when Intel was going to release 6 and 8 core chips anyway in the same year in similar price categories. Fair enough that they're putting major punches in the HEDT space.

>And most of those games you can play on PC due to ports or emulation 4FREE to boot.

I agree. Now it's all about the philosophy behind making the games that will run on their console. They've acquired a bunch of studios, I hope they don't turn them into Rare clones with all the poz ("diversity" crap) that has infected 99% of their studios.

They are, but still less retarded than naming the third generation console as Xbox ONE. If normalfags bought into that, I don't see why they wouldn't buy into retarded numbering schemes.

The codenames would've been better, I agree.

>I highly doubt and if it is it's checkerbox rendering.

See any number of Xbox One exclusives for yourself, Forza being the most notable. 4K native with 60 FPS can and is done very easily. Even more easily now with the upcoming gen having effectively twice the power.

>No they fucking weren't! If AMD didn't drop the bombshell it did in 2017 intel would still be selling us fucking quad cores with us maybe seeing six cores now.

First gen Ryzen was no bombshell, Intel had slated mainstream 6 cores for late 2017 for a good while.

>Yes you can and it's been a thing for years due to ports and while not 100% emulation has been a thing for 360 games.

Xbox emulation barely exists, 360 emulation is shit. Claiming ports is a dodge, and many games were never ported. Xbox 360 emulation is buggy as hell and can't struggle through 90% of games.

>>16879604

>On Sony's side, we know what they want to do: cinematic experiences.

That's a nice way to say walking simulators. The only good game Sony has is Gran Turismo. I guess normalfags eat up cinematic experiences like hotcakes, and that's all that matters.

Most likely, but I assume the Series X might be cheaper, that's Sony's problem. Microsoft can sell it at cost and eat the loss, they're fucking Microsoft. Sony can't do that. I assume Microsoft might also give away Gamepass with every Series X, or sell it for a dollar again to incentivise people to buy it.

>If only Nintendo would grow a pair and make a proper console

the only reason why Nintendo makes gimmicky consoles with weaker hardware and a metric fuck ton of jewery like the Miis is because they hate piracy like /pol/ hates the jews

besides, they know they can't compete with 2 corporate giants like Soyny and Microsoft in hardware development budget so they go for cheaper price and exclusive games instead

if they ever made a console similar to what Soyny and Microsoft do, not only would they not sell nearly as many consoles as they are currently selling but they would also have to deal with PCs eating all their exclusives either through multyplat deals or emulators

Yeah, I think they're going to sell the console at a lower price and get the money via the peripherals like the SSD memory card thing made by Seagate.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if one day they decide to make the Xbox Live free and put everything on the Game Pass system.

For the Switch, the tablet is the main console. You put it in a dock and it outputs to a TV, or take it out and play it portably. There's tablet-exclusive features (the touch screen, mainly) and this means there are tablet-exclusive games (like Brain Age) but it's mostly entirely avoidable, you can dock it and play it normally.

The tablet came with the Wii U, but most developers just used it the same way they used the DS touch screen. as a Map or Quick item select, the main gimmick is if someone wanted to use the TV you can just use only the Wii U gamepad screen.

For the Switch, the Tablet is basically just a bigger more powerful Gameboy that you can plug into your TV. The Switch is basically just what the Wii U should have been form the start, Since you can use the Wii U the exact same way as a switch if you just have a potable power source, in a backpack or something.

>It's called Checkerbox rendering it's not true 4k gaming and you're making a lot of excuses for Xbone.

It's not. Forza Motorsport 7 runs at native 4k 60 FPS. There's plenty of native resolution 4k games on One X, the hardware is plenty powerful enough.

Checkerboarding is no longer regularly used. There's other more complex forms of resolution scaling used these days.

I don't get why people are butthurt about dynamic resolution scaling to begin with, I wish PC games had it more often and I could just toggle a driver-level box to scale my game's resolution to hit a target. You don't really notice the difference in actual gameplay in decent implementations and it's a very simple way to save some cycles.

>waah waah it's less detail

Yeah, know what else is? LOD models, culling and shadow resolution scaling. Yet those are extremely common, well accepted and have been done since the late 90s.

With Sony going the way of the soy, Xbox could stand to get raunchy as possible to signal they aren't trying to socially condition their "player$". Then, all that would be left to be assured profitable would be to release at least one great game that doesn't depend on servers and dlc.

The only reason I actually did play it was just because I was going though Rare Replay, and Playing Every Rare game in the collection just for the hell of it. Grabbed by the Ghoulies ended up being the game in the whole collection I the most surprised by how fun and charming it actually was, since my expectations were almost in the negative due to the box art just not looking great imo.

>16GB GDDR6 for both system and VRAM

Why do they keep doing this? Doesn't this just create latency and cripple the GPU?

>7nm enhanced

Interesting. So I guess this confirms 7nm+ for Big Navi and the seXbox Zen 2 is an updated version compared to the desktop Zen 2?

>1TB expansion

Pathetic. That'll only be 8-20 extra games for probably 200-250 dollars if it's also a PCI-E gen4 NVMe like the PS5.

>Target performance 60fps

So console plebs will finally have games that run at playable framerates. It only took them 2 fucking decades.

>No hyperthreading at max frequency but is available if 200MHz lower

Why? Why not just have it opportunistically boost to 3.8GHz and sustain at 3.6GHz? Turning SMT off just so you can get hihg speedz is fucking retarded and will kneecap performance.

>hardware accelerated DXR

Guess this means ray-tracing in Big Navi is pretty much confirmed although I don't think it will be mind blowing until the generations after. The only major concern I have for ray-tracing is that visuals will become more homogenized than "ultra realism" rat race has done already with lazy devs using it just so they can have free lighting.

Hardware and service homogenization is the reason consoles need game exclusives. Instead of asking what new games you can add to the growing list of Xbox games you'll never buy because you're on PC or never be able to play again because you're a stupid fucking cunt that spent 60 dollars to never be able to play it after the platform dies, ask instead why they can't add in interesting hardware acceleration or some innovative and compelling service.

>Zen 2+

They have confirmed it's a straight up Zen 3 with TSMC's 7nm+ EUV Lithography (3d stacking). It will also feature a new Epyc generation so expect the same binning strategy as this gen where you're getting a mediocre CPU at top shelf pricing.

>they said Zen 2 will have 8 cores on the 3600

No one at AMD said that. The only people saying that were people either speculating or one of the people reporting on/releasing leaks like AdoredTV. AMD may have been thinking of it originally but probably decided that there's no need for the R3 sku which are now APUs , mainstream doesn't need 8 cores, and M A R G I N S.

>12 cores is hopelessly optimistic

nigger there's already 12 cores on desktop for 400-500 bucks

>b-but who will pay for it

the same retards that payed 400-500 bucks for Intel's i7s for the last 5-6 years

>hopeless optimism

Ryzen since gen 1 has had Intel playing catchup by

>pulling the ConLake Conjob to make 7th gen look much better than it actually was

>releasing i9 to compete with the new core counts

>upping core counts on i5s and i7s

>reducing prices on older CPUs to get more sales

>nigger rigged a server CPU that required a 1600 watt cooler just to have something to compete for bulk buyers only :^)

If you're referring to the GPU side I'd agree, but the CPU optimism is based on clear and recent successes in the last 2-3 years. also AMD could have easily done all that stuff if they weren't a company currently focusing on margins and share prices. Never trust a corporation.

>>16879588

He's not entirely wrong as Intel was apparently already getting software devs to utilize multi-core since the stone of single core IPC and frequency gains was bled dry long ago.

They'll still be well behind pcs once rtx 3000 series and big navi comes out but this is the closest the performance gap has been in decades.

a cheap computer that only runs games is way less valuable than a PC that costs maybe $200 more.
