Do you buy games loose or boxed /v/?

Do you care if a GBA game is missing the box and manual?

>Do you buy games loose or boxed /v/?

Should I buy games, I don't care about the box's state. The game's status is what matters.

>Do you care if a GBA game is missing the box and manual?

GBA boxes are simple cardboard. Get a copy of the box online, print it on a solid enough cardboard, and you have a perfect replica. Manuals can be a little more tricky to print, due to the paper quality, but it is doable too. And you can expect most "boxed mint state" copies to have been rebuilt that way, since the cost is much lesser than whatever those selling them will ask.

On occasion when buying games, I do my best to aim for complete and in good shape when feasible (keyword). However, that only extends to games that had actual cases: games that had cardstock boxes are much more likely for the average person to have trashed, lost, or otherwise destroyed the boxes and manuals for in comparison, and in cases they are still present, tend to be excessively high in price compared to just the cartridge. The GBA is the system that used cardstock that I actually have physical games for, so I've taken you using some older model DS cases (the ones with the GBA slot in them) and cover prints for them.

I think it was just the cartridge every single time I've bought an used gb game, and I wouldn't have thought about asking for anything else besides the cartridge. Nowadays people might handle it differently as they are adults now and gameboy stuff has become collectible, while I have switched to getting stuff in .zip files.

Depends on the platform and how easy it is to get them that way. Any disc game I'll buy with the box, and most cartridge games from DS onward are also easy to get with their case, though I won't mind getting just the cartridge if the price difference is significant enough. For older stuff (Gameboy, N64, etc.) I'll just get the cartridge since the boxed versions go for insane prices these days.

Manuals aren't a factor for me. The older ones are well made, but it's not worth paying extra for something I'll skim once and can usually find online instead.

Loose carts for handheld systems are very easy to lose and not very efficient to store. Not to mention you can lose them easily. If you have a stash of GBA games or planning on getting one and don't want a jingling shoebox as your storage method, then I suggest using cassette tapes.

People have been using cassette tapes as makeshift boxes and even create custom box art for them. It should be pretty easy to look up if you're interested.

Why would I buy gba games at this point? I'd likely have to change the internal battery, I'd be forced to use the old hardware when I can emulate it, and I wouldn't be supporting the devs. There's no reason to buy games that old

>>16877735

You could probably still buy something made to carry gba games around that wont have them jingling.

I don't especially care if it's cartridges since they're durable as fuck.

Discs though I prefer getting a box rather than a sleeve of some kind.

Even though admittedly, I have bought some of those old book/binders of cd sleeves with old ps1/2 games in it.

I know someone who goes into second hand stores to buy the boxes.

Myself I have all my GB games in one zip bag.

I threw away all my game manuals and boxes when I moved out, and it hurts. I should at least have kept the manuals for nostalgia.

Remember manuals, kids?!

Gave away my genesis, ps1, and xbox, and all the games to a friend, when moving around during university.

The cases/boxes are enough to be nostalgia. And the manuals too for those eras are pretty much mandatory if I were to rebuy. Not going to happen because of retro game scalpers.

I like GBA enough to buy games with the boxes, or just buy the box/manuals seperately, but i haven't really done so in years. Shit's just too expensive now. Also sometimes it's nigh impossible to find them, bought a boxed copy of Yggdra Union back in the day hoping to find the manual, and it just never fucking happened.

>>16877735

Those look amazing, i gotta try that. I've been using DS cases myself, but unfortunately the manuals don't fit in box.

Currently one up on ebay if you're still looking, but it seems to be a bit beat up and is thirty fucking dollars (for paper). Better idea, on the off chance you haven't pursued it, might be to see if any of the independent game shops (if there's even any) near you have a box of manuals with no games that you might be able to root around in for it. Though, I know some places around where I live have taken to just holding onto them for when they get a cart in, and sell both as a set for a lot more than the cart on its own goes for.

Also, I don't really get the GBA boxes thing since GBA boxes were just Laminated Cardstock, you really aren't missing out on much and if it's that big of a deal you can download an unwrap print of it and fold it yourself.

>Do you buy games loose or boxed /v/?

I refused digital right up until my PC was my only gaming platform, now I don't buy anything that isn't what I consider it to be worth. So, usually I don't spend more than five dollars because I view it as a modern form of rental with a few exemptions for high quality or fun games– I think like 3 in the last five years…

But emulation is so much more convenient nowadays.

>don't have to deal with ridiculous inflated Soytendo prices

>can safely download individual games on a whim from no-intro sets

>cartridge games have miniscule ROM sizes

>can't misplace games or have save batteries die

>emulating old systems with near-perfect compatibility is easy even on shit hardware

>can mitigate lag with a CRT or Retroarch runahead (horrible lag and/or screen scaling kill almost every official rerelease)

>most games have pdf manual scans

>can use USB adapters for first party controllers

>can use ROM hacks/translation patches
