What games have the best build variety?
As dissapointing as Dark Souls 3 was versus the rest of the series (besides 2 obviously) I kept coming back and playing it because of the amount of different builds I could make. I realize gameplay doesn't really change much besides deciding to use magic or not, but just having the option to get creative with a ton of playstyles gets me off. For example, I decided to try to make a ranged only build in my latest run, and I've encountered a ton of obstacles but also a lot of chances to use lesser used mechanics like dragon form effectively. I've even resorted to playing shit like pokemon for a few hundred hours just making somewhat unique builds for each pokemon. What other games have you tried that give you the chance to play through the game and exploit mechanics to create unique builds others may not have even imagined working?

I dunno, Warzone lets you play around a lot but I'd say there is usually an intended build for any given mission, that said it's not like different builds don't work at all and the variety is vast as hell. Quick tip is that you can recycle vetted units and they get assigned to whatever you build next instead. And whatever you do, if the multiplayer still lives, don't try it, the autism is sky high and the meta is set in stone.
Underrail is also wonderful, but you should try playing around and starting over a few times with new builds, just to get the gist of it. You can find yourself with a dead run 20 hours in, just because your build is shit, but most combinations work.

Age of Decadence, it has swords, spears, axes, hammers, daggers, bows, crossbows and throwables, every bracket has a few different variants, each weapon has specific weaknesses and strengths, and can be fitting for different playstyles (like heavy spatha sword with high damage but higher AP costs, or faster sabre). For defense, you can pick shields or dodging; armor slows you down (AP-wise) but absorbs damage when you're inevitably hit. Moreover you have non-combat skills that you have to balance out with combat skills to be able to achieve your goals and get higher quest rewards. To add to the variety you have 8 starting backgrounds and 7 different factions that you can betray at several points of the story. None of your playthroughs will be the same.

Underrail is great (except for the last section of the main game) but it does require either foreknowledge of certain things or that you play, make a shit build, restart hours later and then do everything right.

In case you guys are interested in the same topic, I would highly recommend emulating grafitti kingdom. It's a 3d beat-em-up with a drawing program. Depending on how you make the character, like how long the limbs are, you can have different moves, attacks and even run speed. For reference, I made a gondola that had amazing range, run and jump speed, but couldnt hit hard at all. Story isn't really good at all but the build variety has huge potential.

I definitely suffered from the dead run problem, but the obvious builds do work. Crafting is also pretty damn good and you should probably get it. My most successful dude was a techmarine that crafts his own plasma guns and high-tech armor. Psi is good but I wouldn't recommend trying to synergize it with stealth, that run started well but petered out after the middle part very quickly.

Soul Sacrifice Delta. Over 100 spell types and variations and faction-based skill-building that earn your special perks based on whether you save or sacrifice monsters and archfiends. Sadly it's stuck on the vita for the time being as it's a first-party sony title.

<Dark Souls 3
<Fun different builds
Pick one. The only viable build in that game is either a STR/DEX build, a pure STR build or a pure DEXfag build. I like STR builds but it's just maddening at how they made armor near-useless and removed poise from it I know they're not removed entirely, but it doesn't matter 80% of the time. You're on a disadvantage if you wear heavy armour, let that sink in. DS3 ruined the magic by making them deal impotent damage if you're not wearing 2 rings. Even if you spec enough points into them, a Raw weapon with a bundle would deal around the same damage without any of the requirements of spending points into FTH / INT. And that's only the damage problem, let's not even get to how it has other problems with Magic beyond seeing numbers go up.
If you want a DS game with stupid but workable builds, then you'd want to look at 2.
I'm just mad that they fucked up the DS1 formula with 3, just look at those wasted potential. Then again, From is sick of Dark Souls, so here's hoping that they'll come back making AC games.

Sekiro and Bloodborne are two of the best games this generation. They went from a A or AA studio to a AAA studio on the success and later tweaks of the Souls formula.
And their next game. As described by Hidetaka Miyazaki.
>Elden Ring is a third-person action RPG with a fantasy setting
>The gameplay is not so far from Dark Souls.
>That doesn’t mean that the gameplay will be identical,
>but you could say that Elden Ring belongs to the same genre.
So no new Armored Core for awhile. However, looking at random shit, Daemon X Machina shares a producer from Armored Core 2 and 3, and got Shōji Kawamori to be a mechanical designer, so it might hit the spot? Don't own a switch, and as a rule, been avoiding pc ports of japanese console games, so wouldn't know.

you wat
the winning formula is slipping into lapp or similar and equip ring of favor, havel ring and prisoner chain. Almost every other ring is hot garbage. You will never reach the weight limit, if you stick to light weapons, and there is no reason to use the heavier ones. Sure, they might work against some enemies. However, against anything else, including bosses and other players, you're definitely not in it to win it if you are not using a light weapon like a straight sword. Max out vigor and armor to win game.

The max amount of damage reduction you can get with the heaviest armor in Dark Souls 3 is around 60%
Since poise doesn't exist, bosses can just juggle you to death and all the points you wasted in increasing carrying capacity to wear that useless armor just goes to waste. Just wear leather shit and dump all points you were going to put into Vitality into Vigor.

Vitality is far better than armor, indeed. But my point is that you barely have to upgrade Vitality anyways, since you can just equip some rings. Most other rings are useless anyways (I am repeating myself, I know)
As far as bosses goes, your build doesn't do much in terms of how you approach. Either you dodge and roll, or you cheese with ranged attacks.

Does anybody remember this parody Dark Souls guide, that explained all these mechanics that weren't even in the game, and made up all these different stats? I don't remember if it was all that funny, but I cannot for the life of me find it anywhere. It's like it vanished.

>dark souls 3
>build variety
There's a lot more to do in it than 1, but that doesn't mean the build variety is stronger, especially when armor is essentially useless, meaning the best builds you can make are the fastest ones
Dark souls 1 allows you to essentially do whatever you want with your stats and getting everything you want for it up to 50 is an easy feat, whereas in DS3 you have to spend a lot more time grinding for a lot less, and if you're building something you have to go all in, meaning minmaxing is more essential than it was in 1, especially with how all the stats were split.
For my two cents in the hat, I have to go with skyrim
This game is pretty much a meme and I don't give two shits about the story, but it lets me murderhobo pretty well. Granted, base game skyrim fucking sucks and all the stats are broken as shit, but pumping this corpse full of magic mods and making battle cleric a viable class is fun as hell.

No, it was an obvious parody that made up stats like "Determination", I actually just found it, it's Inferno's Parry Guide for DS3. But I swear there an even more bizarre video that implied there was locational damage for melee weapons, as in you could hit someone multiple times with one swing by hitting their head and both arms, so I'm trying to find that now.
