I'm waiting for reviews, and then I'm waiting for a sale. I love the GBA Zero games but I'm not paying Capcom's inflated prices for fucking ROMs.

Since we're here:

Yeah I've got all the ROMs on my PC, and I could play them on my phone if I wanted to set up an emulator with a bluetooth controller, but the Switch is (in theory) a better experience, especially when traveling.

It depends on how badly Capcom fuck this one up. I don't think it can be as bad as the Street Fighter collection from last year.

You can still pirate the switch version, faggot. You can give it a try for yourself and see if they fucked or not. The DS Zero collection was alright. The worst offender I've seen of the Zero/ZX collection is the smearing, but that's optional.

I don't think people were burned out on Mega Man. They just didn't like what the series had become. Zero, ZX, Battle Network, and Star Force were very different than the core of the series, and there were no entries that actually represented the core of the series anymore.

Also, it's frankly been so long since a lot of these games/sub series were around that it might be smart to give noobs a way to catch up. Don't forget that normalfags are too stupid to just pirate the games.

That said, all of these collections should have had more games on them. Especially since they tried to sell the original series as two different collections. They're fucking NES games. That obviously should have only been one collection. It was before, with the Anniversary Collection.

Also, if they're gonna do this shit, the least they could do is actually include ALL of the games in each sub-series, including spinoffs/handheld entries. It's one thing to not include the arcade fighting games, but to not even include the Game Boy games? Come on. And considering these are simple ports of old ass games that have been rereleased a million times, then yes, they should have had the arcade fighting games, and a translation of Challenger From The Future. And Mega Man Soccer. And Wily & Light's Rockboard.

The X Collection was almost there. Just throw in the X-Treme games and the Gamecube game. They were so close.

Good to see Capcom is upholding the venerable tradition of not being able to spell "Mega Man" consistently.

Here are some links for the Switch version. The game's about 3GB. They throttle downloading so access could be temporarily restricted if too many people download at once.

Localizations are always shit anyway. It's "Rockman." Why the fuck would a guy named "Mega" have a sister named "Roll?"

Also, is Zero even technically a Rockman? He's not even technically a reploid, and they aren't all considered Rockmans, even though they're at least descendants of Rockman X, who is basically a successor model to the original Rockman. Zero has no claim to the title Rockman.

There's a bunch of little bugs in the PSX version that aren't in the Saturn version, as that version HAD to have more testing, because programming for the Saturn was a pain in the ass compared to the PSX. The worst of these bugs which I can remember is the Jetbike "Wooshwhooshwhoosh" boost-sound in the Jet Stingray pain in the ass autoscrolling stage goes through the entire stage instead of just when you're boosting. I think there's a few more minor graphical bugs Cyber Peacock stage and when you get to the Sigma stages aboard the Europa.

Most of it's FMVs (higher res than on DS plus a credits video that's about 250MB), voice clips (also higher quality than on DS), the music player, and the art gallery. A GB total is also taken up by "SE" arc files for each game but I'm not entirely sure what those do. Maybe they're streaming the in-game sound effects and/or music.

He basically is (DWN and everything), he's just one that can pass for a reploid. Z-Saber's probably his weapon had he actually fought Megaman. Speaking of which, did they ever plug that continuity hole of what happened to the cast in between beyond Wily/Light dying of old age?

>>16855877

yes and no

We kind of run into a second question: Is X a reploid? Weren't reploids the imperfect designs created by Dr. Cain after he analyzed X (yes)?

X refers to himself as a reploid but he seems to do so out of solidarity. Zero is often classified as a reploid but it seems that the only characters who refer to him that way are unaware of his origins

Zero was created to fully explore the possibilities of a new energy source (see: Power Battles, where it is revealed that Bass's power source was a fluke discovery and the foreshadowed Zero would fully utilize it) and given an advanced AI to match Light's work on X before being buried next to X's test capsule (sometimes theorized to be the result of Bass's raid on Light's lab in MM7). It's probably wrong to think of him as a robot master

>>16855893

it's almost a little weird that he has a DWN number, even if it is DWN.infinity. Bass has a separate classification standard entire, being SWN.1 (Special Wily Number). You'd think his successor machine would follow suit

>did they ever plug that continuity hole of what happened to the cast in between beyond Wily/Light dying of old age?

nope. It seemed like it was supposed to be part of the plot of MegaMan Online (possibly Roll was lost in a riot) but that was good and cancelled along with Legends 3 and Universe

best guesses:

Rock gets transformed into Quint and given a pogo stick. He dies at the hands of his former self. Time loop closed

Blues goes out into the desert to die. His distrust for Dr. Light, whether the doctor's skill or intention, leads to his nuclear reactor eventually wearing down and hopefully only a radiation hazard and not an explosion

Roll's fate is hard to gauge. She could be active for any amount of time and through any number of events, continuing to act as a housekeeper. It wouldn't have been entirely inappropriate if we had seen her sweeping up at Wily's boat shack.

If you count Challenger From The Future, you can argue that Quint survived and became Rockman Shadow, who then took over the future. Presumably this would mean killing anyone who tries to stop him, which would probably include Blues, Forte, and maybe even Roll. THEN he goes back in time (again), and Rockman and Forte team up to kill him, which means that not only did Rock kill his own future self, but Forte actually fulfilled his mission of killing Rockman.

I'm here to confirm the PS4 port being a piece of shit, just like MMXLC was. My brother just bought it and we tested it on three different TVs (a top of the line samsung from 2016, a top of the line sony from 2017 and a TCL from last year, and yes we enabled game mode and even chroma 4:4:4), it has noticeable amounts of input lag. Stick to the switch port (we pirated the game to test and it runs fine both docked and portable) or better yet just emulate on PC.

Why can't these fuckers do anything right? I was looking forward to this game, now i'll have to wait until it drops to $10 to buy it.

As an experiment I tried batch-renaming all the ZX English text files to replace the Japanese ones along with the font and it actually does result in English text with voices, but obviously only the dialogue is changed. It'd be better to find whatever file that dictates whether the voices play and change just that instead of everything around it. Hopefully an actual modder can figure it out along with undubbing ZX Advent and uncensoring the Zero games.

Or you could emulate them since they all have patches that do the above, I guess.

went ahead and picked up a copy because scalpers are already fucking things up and with this particular game I could see Capcom doing a very limited run.

The Switch port feels pretty good, and unlocking stuff as you go is nice. If they have the original animated commercials in there at a decent quality the purchase will have been well worth it. That being said, it does feel like there's a minuscule amount of input delay. Less than you'd even have on the best emulator (probably because they are using the source code for the games), yet there's still a little bit there. Only time I noticed it was when I was jumping on a wall and got to the corner. I tapped the jump button rapidly and noticed Zero was delayed on one or two of the jumps. Like I said, it wasn't terrible by any means, but I do think there might be the smallest amount of delay there.

>Speaking of which, did they ever plug that continuity hole of what happened to the cast in between beyond Wily/Light dying of old age?

No they did not, and thank Christ because the whole idea of zero killing the original cast is edgelord fanfiction straight out of 2007. Considering that zero is just conman's gary stu donut whom he forced into the series, this is oddly appropriate and explains the vehemently grimedork tone of the zero series. Basically, real Mega man is an homage to classic anime and tokusatsu that the developers watched as kids and unified through an osamu tezuka filter for design consistency. Ending such a series by going full coldsteel would spit in the faces of everyone who worked on those six games, and that's exactly why conman pushed for it over the years until he was booted out the door. The only faggots who ask for this crap are water-brains who bought the fake news hype about conman being the creator of Mega man in the early 00's, mopey cunts who cannot stand something sincere and wholesome, and actual retards that think violence and AAAAANNNNNGGGGGGSSSSSTTTT are the callsigns of good writing.

MMZ

Great gameplay, great design, good bosses. Hard for all the wrong reasons

>shit life system

I had to use the new save feature and I'm not even ashamed of it

>grinding for weapon abilities

shit

>elf system is shit.

Took me a whole playthrough without grinding (because FUCK THAT WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA?!) to get around 1000 energy crystals, that's enough to use ONE life extending elf. What was wrong with hiding them around the levels and shit?

MMZ2

>grinding weapon abilities

shit

>elf system

from what I heard is better balanced

>two tanks are collectables

so it's more in line with old MM games

>but now they went and created that fucked up system to gain forms and ex skills.

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE PREVIOUS SYSTEM?! Again, they changed something that didn't need changing, for the worse

>hey do you want these abilities, lol have fun keeping a near perfect run for the whole game (your level is an AVERAGE of your score, meaning that fucking up on a mission doesn't lock you out of the a ability that boss can give you, it locks you out of pretty much every ability you could get onwards

I mean, I know I could beat the game without them, but how could I play a megaman game with boss weapon cloning (eh, sort of) and not get them? Again, who thought that was a good idea? Right now I've aquired two for two, but only after redoing each of those two levels over and over and over again. I'm pretty sure my average is already borderline level A, meaning it's only gonna get worse. TWO LEVELS, and I already feel like I'm dealing with bulshit game mechanics.

MMZ3 better be as good as everyone say it is. The first two games have a net positive so far, but you're gonna have to overlook a lot of poor game design choices.

Hey, wasn't it great when all the Guardians, who were built up over three games, abruptly died off-screen after accomplishing nothing? Isn't this is a richly-constructed and mature narrative?

That factory level in the first game is also the epitome of bad level design.

There’s this point in the level with moving platforms, yet there’s several places where you have to jump up and explore a bit, but the camera won’t let you see the platforms under you once you go back down so there are times where you just have to guess and fall hoping you’ll land on a platform.

>hey do you want these abilities, lol have fun keeping a near perfect run for the whole game (your level is an AVERAGE of your score, meaning that fucking up on a mission doesn't lock you out of the a ability that boss can give you, it locks you out of pretty much every ability you could get onwards

It's no where near a perfect run.

Getting the level in a par time, just doing the mission objective, not dying and not using elves is 70 points on its own, kill all the enemies you come across and you're on 85 which is the A score (last 15 is health which in zero 2 you can lose your entire HP bars worth of health and still get 2-3 points I think which you could live without if just wanting EX skills is the thing, feel free to just grab the E tanks and use them to health brute force levels and only worry about kill count and par time). once you get A in one mission you're ensured 2 EX skills because just entering a level in A rank will give you an EX move for that level as well (so just getting A rank in the tutorial level should give you one by default) and there are 4 elves that just give you A rank so you can enter a level after using them for them. (with NG+ as a factor here you can use this to get every EX skill only by only being able to complete the tutorial stage with A rank minimum, it just takes time over being rewarded for skill)

Levels are only around 2-3 minutes long retrying them from scratch over a death for the sake of rank isn't exactly painful here.

I'm not sure they tested it at all considering there are people who can't even play the game because it crashes when you create a save file.

You can remap controls using Steam if you right click the game (Or use Big Picture). It works with shortcuts too if you've pirated the game.

Hey, can someone please post this message on the MMZ/ZX Steam discussions in one of the relevant ZX undub threads like https://steamcommunity.com/app/999020/discussions/0/1747899030097608933/ without calling anyone a faggot retard? I want to help out with modding but I'd rather floss with barbed wire than give Gaben five bucks for posting privileges.

"Removing the extraneous text boxes in the English version of ZX is surprisingly simple. Bytes 0 and 2 in the font files control the character width and height (English font is 8x16 pixels and Japanese font is 12x16). With a smaller font (6x12 in this case) and some adjustment to the text spacing, you can fit nearly double the text in one box. I also think the script structure is regular enough for the text spacing to be feasibly automated if anyone's up to it.

Here's the edited font, an example script with Aile's intro cutscene, some screenshots, and further explanation:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/dawbxs51zgmrxp3/Mega_Man_ZX_font_test.zip/file

I haven't touched ZXA, but I assume there's a lot of overlap."

Hi. I'm back. Took me a while because I put MMZ2 on hold. Final verdict (aside from what I already mentioned)

>Fun to play game, with pants-on-headretarded disign choices that I still don't understand why they're in the game

Most of the fun I derive from megaman games is the tight gameplay, and this game doesn't let that down. The other half comes from the power trip from getting enemy weapons, tanks, etc., but on that regard this game is a letdown. Making weapon cloning (Ex Skills, in this game) optional and unreasonably hard to collect was not a good idea. Playing with the save-assist feature made it tolerable, but I can only imagine myself dropping this endeavor halfway through the game had I played it in the GBA as it was intended. Still, to get the best possible rank I had to reset to a save-assist almost every time I took any damage, turning the game into a chore more than a fun ride. Well, kinda a chore, since like I sad, the gameplay is fun enough. I also gave up on getting all the Forms. I found that trying to go for them usually messed my score, making me go back and redo the level more often than not. So I finished with all the Ex Skills, but only a couple Forms.

MMZ3

Now comes the real fun part. I just started MMZ3, played through 3 of the first 4 bosses, and boy oh boy is this an amazing improvement over the previous 2 games. I just started it, but I'd rate my enjoyment with this game on par with when I first played MMX on the snes so many years ago.

>no more weapon grinding

such an obvious design choice, should have never been otherwise.

>repel tonfas of whatever they're called

definitely more fun than the rod and the wip, still a little clunky, I would have liked it more if it was even more functional for boosting movement at the expense of a lower damage, leaving the z-saber for combat-only situations like bosses and minibosses.

>satellite elves don't take from your score

GREAT! On MMZ2 I didn't even bother collecting elves, since I wouldn't use them anyway (they take away from your score, which messes with collecting Ex Skills) but now I can at least use these minor assist elves. Like I said, part of the fun comes from the power trip, and colecting something with real tangible effect makes me feel like I'm playing a real MM game again.

>2 collectable tanks again

I have at the same time to praise them for doing it again, but also feel sad that I have to raise them for doing something that should have been common sense from the very beginning in the first place

>gone are the forms, now we have more Chips

ALSO GREAT! Collectibles that make you want to collect them are always welcome. I've also been getting all the secret chips, having to backtrack a level to get extra stuff can actually be fun if it's worth getting it.

>Difficult THE RIGHT WAY

tricky platforming and cool enemies were also present in the other two games, but the progression I've been making makes it more bearable to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-redo segments. In both MMZ and MMZ2, by the end of the game I felt like I had made very little progress power-wise, since the Ex Skills weren't all that useful I barely used most of them. Now I'm gunning for chips, elves, Ex Skills, all because they make the game more FUN

>anon it sounds like you just wanted more abilities, don't you think deep down you jsut wanted the game to be easier?

I fucking WISH these abilities made the game considerably easier. More like they give me more options than I would have had otherwise..

I'm also finding it difficult to classify Inti Creates as a goo company. They seem to have their heart in the right place when making these side scrolling 2D games, but then they come up with stupid decisions that should be obviously bad from the start. One of the games I've been playing solo is Dragon Marked for Death, and it is mediocre at best

>even normal enemies take forever to kill

I've seen people point that out in various parts of the internet, just to be met with the following response:"hurr it's a multiplayer game, they're balanced against multiple characters". Well if playing solo is an option, then balance the enemies accordingly then! Of course none of that matters when you realize

>killing normal enemies is irrelevant

most of the XP and gold you can get comes from finishing missions, making the best way to grind for them to go to any easy low level mission and blast through it avoiding normal enemies if possible and just taking out the boss at the end, if you can. What's the point of bothering with normal enemies if killing them takes forever and gives little to no XP and gold? If you can jump over an enemy, just do that.

>No power progression

This is what killed it for me. Playing as a lvl1 or a lvl100 character is essentialy the same, you just deal higher damage numbers. It wouldn't be as bad if levels and enemies were varied enough, but I just got to the second city level and missions now feel a lot like early missions but with different colored monsters and different backgrounds. Bosses are fun, but that's about it.

>if they want the multiplayer class-based beat them up feel they could have mimicked Dragons Crown or Lost Vikings

side note: looking up Lost Vikings, I just found out it was re-released on the GBA, I had no idea. Gonna check that out soon.

Anyway, the game isn't bad, but it's not terribly good either, that's what makes classifying Inti Creates so hard.

There's, apparently, an actual competitive scene for 6 using the wireless adapter compatibility in an emulator to play over the net. 5DS would be the same. Having tried it in person, 1-3 are complete clusterfucks with knowledgeable players since there are so many instant kill combos you don't need to aim it just becomes a contest of pressing a as fast as possible. Haven't tried 4-6, but apparently 4's overall lack of power is true in PVP as well to the point healing is OP because it's trivial to outlast your opponent's entire folder.

As for the physical stuff, doesn't the ZX collection have you unlock the cards for the E-Reader bonuses by playing games in the collection? They could do that the same way for the physical chip gates and e-reader stuff.

>One Step From Eden

Can't say that I'm excited for the game, honestly. The game being a roguelite leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth because of that period a few years ago where every single indie game was a roguelite. It also feels inappropriate for a Battle Network style game especially. Personally my favorite part of the series was that it actually scratched that card game itch for weird and niche strategies that actually work. No Beam and Poison Pharaoh folders are a good example. You can't really plan a strategy like that when you don't even have control over what cards you get. Even if you do find an amazing combo, you'll probably have merely stumbled into it by accident because the RNG just so happened to give you everything you needed.

>>16886153

>What's the last build of Shanghai EXE?

Try asking Touhou players, they seem to have it. There's a gitgud for the game but you have to put the graphics back into the game that were removed from that version due to copyright complaints, and I don't know how to do that.

I was asking about multiplayer because I'm having trouble imagining how the developers would be able to implement it. The multiplayer was designed with portable consoles in mind. I don't know how a platform like PC for instance is going to do it unless the developers implement a P2P internet connection or something.

Finished MMZ3, I stand by my initial opinions. Best game so far, lots of fun. I just finished it and kind of want to boot up hard mode, but I want to close this entire collection ASAP, so I'm moving to MMZ4 right away.

The reveal in the end was pretty good Inconsequential, but good. They baited me and got a reaction when they revealed our Zero was a copy, I was like "gasp, so original Zero was evil in the end, it takes balls to steer the canon this way, props to them" but then they immediately 180 it by going "nuh uh, Zero is GOOD, Omega is a different reploid, he's just using Zero's body guys", which is a coward cop out that only raises more questions.

Well, if what the internet tells me is true, it's time for some disappointment. Here I go!

>>16885860

What are you talking about? Zero has always been a woman, anon. She even had boobs in her armor before :^)

Speaking of character design choices: I'm not a fan of the fact that canonicaly teh Z-Saber is stuck to the Buster (supposedly that's why Zero can charge his buster, while other resistance soldiers can't), it's just so clunky in design. I like the concept art that shows him holding his saber on his tigh pouches (the wite things on the sides of his tighs), that's my head canon.

Finished MMZ4.

It's a pitty this isn't as good as MMZ3. I really wanted to close the series on a higher note. I's not a bad game, in fact I'd place it more or less as the same as MMZ2. Maybe below? I can't say for sure, MMZ2 does some things better than MMZ4 but it has flaws of it's own as well.

The ending is breedy gud, quite fitting that Zero dies, since X is also dead anyway, but it's bullshit that they just killed the four guardians off screen for no reason. Couldn't they have made ONE slide showing their corpses just to give the reveal more weight?"

>The good

# the usual good-but-should-have-never-been-any-different points: Two collectalbe tanks, no need to grind for weapon levels

# I like this elf system, it's different from MMZ3, maybe even more limiting, but interesting in it's own right, instead of turning you into an additive cyber elf powerhouse MMZ4 has more of a class system of sorts (since you can choose which abilities to have depending on how you build your elf, but ou can't have everything at the same time)

# buster boss weapons are the best of the series, and the fact that I only need to change the weapon instead of weapon+body chip to use it's full potential is better than MMZ3

# z-saber techniques are the same as ever though, to the point of being boring, but at least they allow me to perform different elemental attacks without havint go go into the menu to change them up, which is very nice

>the bad

# crafting. Grinding for parts isn't terrible, butit's much less engaging than the previous system of "do you want this chip? you need to go here with a specific ability/skill to clear this challenge and get it"

# grinding for energy crystals is back, since the elf's later levels take shitloads of EC to develop. It'snot terribly necessary though, I only developed it to lvl 5 and did just fine with it. lvls 6 and 7 turn you into a beast though, I miht come back to this save file just for the funn of it later

# retarded cimate system is retarded. Why not just call it for what it is? you can play in NORMAL mode to get the boss's ability or EASY mode to clear it faster but not get it

# Z-fist: It's a gimmick and I got tired of it fast. The reason I don't think this is too bad of a point right away is because I felt like my copied abilities kept me entertained enough. In previous games the whip was marginally better than the first game's rod, and the tonfas were the best extra weapons of them all, but felt too situational for me since I used mostly my saber+gun or saber+shield combo anyway

All in all, if I could go back in time and change something about MMZ4 I would have:

>gotten rid of crafting, used collectable chips instead

>keep the Z-fist but give it more meaningful even if situational uses, like stealing an enemy ability that can interact in a meaningful way with that level to the point of opening alternate paths and being necessary to reach some collectables. Like using vine weapons to hang from the ceiling, drill weapons to dig holes, magnetic weapons to change a level's gravity, etc

>elf system can be mostly the same, but enforcing the max lvl as a hard cap, and at the same time giving it more options and lighter EC requirements, to turn it into a real point-class-based system.
