Of course the institution of slavery itself is incompatible in the long-term, because naive whites will eventually mix with niggers if niggers are allowed to run free; but the southern states, for the most part, wanted to be able to govern themselves rather than be governed by the singular Federal government. The fact that slavery happened to be an example they often used doesn't indicate that that's why the war was fought. If slavery didn't exist there, there are plenty of other grievances which they list which were themselves still plenty reason to rebel.

The point wasn't that slavery was the reason they fought, but that the Federal government was attempting to overrule the individual states' rights and slavery was a notable example of them doing this.

So far, reading the link, Georgia lists slavery as a grievance in and of itself; Mississipi lists it as just one of many examples of the Federal government infringing on its' liberty. Texas also lists it as just one example of many of the North infringing on states' rights, and Virginia doesn't even bring it up.
