It has its charms and appeal, mainly through its characters, dialogue, writing, fanservice, humor and over-the-top animations for moves and whatnot with serviceable to fun gameplay and decent OSTs. Its a very unique type of setting and style (very satirical JRPG heavily involving vidya games and otaku culture)

Its mostly a low-budget series so its got some notable issues, namely stuff like palette swaps for dungeons and monsters, some to a lot of grinding depending on the game in question you're playing and how good you are. If you can tolerate that, you'll likely enjoy it.

I usually like grimdark, edgy and super serious games but playing Nep games gives me peace and happiness, they're amazing for destressing you when you don't get stuck on a bullshit boss

Given the threads have been on life support, it's a valid question. The fact that nobody claimed the thread in the name of x is particularly damning so I claim it in the name of BAD END. I did in fact get it and it hurt to see through to the end, and apparently it's identical in mk2 despite Re;birth 1 being significantly altered from the original game. Who can say why they kept that of all things, and made it easier to get at that.

Right now I'm re-playing a mixture of 3 and 1 trying for alt endings, and failing in the case of 3 because some of the items aren't findable. Keppy spoiled the requirements and I did find one of the six events second loop.

I thought Re;birth 1 had significant story alterations, on top of fixing the game mechanics into something at least acceptable, as in it wouldn't be unprecedented for them to have changed something that unpopular, but they didn't. Also playing the original is something I may eventually do, because picking apart why bad games are is fun to me.

Speaking of gameplay, I found the other trick to breaking SP in Re;birth 3. Lower SP cost plan + SP Buster II = a few AoE SP skills regenerate more than they use on groups, such as Plutia's "stress release", and it also allows scary fast regeneration if the character has an 8-hit rush move and large hitbox weapon (some don't like Noire sadly). Cave's EXE drive amazingly can also self-perpetuate, but it's kind of middling in power and not that damaging against the horsebird hordes for example. Most of the DLC characters are early game killers but really ramp down around mid-game.

Also what's the best way to make money in 3? I'm assuming there's some fast method with how many expensive items are available.

Yeah I know. Conquest arc also happens to be the path to the best ending if you care to grind a lot, which I really don't. As for why I didn't go for a regular ending, part curiosity, part annoying difficulty spikes and battle situations, and bratty main characters annoying me. It's definitely my least favourite of the three though by the end I'd warmed more to Rom/Ram. Still dislike Nepgear even if she's powerful and I use her in other games, and I'd love to know how she's almost tied with Noire in popularity.

I want to nep the ultimate version of Conquestgear so hard that she ultimately no longer needs any other sources of Share except through me!

Exacted revenge against the "Purple Sister?" in that one Hello Continent level. The same level you find the plan for the CPU Aegis. It's kind of absurd how much the game likes to refer to that. I'm also assuming there's something special if you can kill the "Nepgear?" that it starts out as. I'm probably a bit off from being able to do that even if I use the weaken plan.

Also found out that there's a checklist for the Stella's dungeon areas, so I'm setting her to backtrack, while I do other stuff that isn't story progression, because I know I'm missing a key plan somewhere since I have like 4 or 5 places that are inaccessible and needed for the true ending. I could go for the bad ending this loop, which I'm guessing is if you miss one of the key items that is tied to that one event with Peashy's memories. Anonydeath is pretty fourth-wall breaking about it.

Lastly I checked about the game dev thing and there are actually unique ones that can be made. Didn't check the actual chips needed but did a few of the names, and they're mostly ones parodied in the end credits so that's my starting point to look into that.

Randomly came across this idea chip, and decided to pick up a few more for obvious reasons. Got the "normal" ending too and opened up a new place, so I'm now into 4th loop and really wishing they'd not carried levels over or made NG+ a different experience. It's no fun one-shotting everything like I'm playing Pokémon.

If you're on a version higher than 3.60 that method of patching got broken. You need the taiHEN plugin rePatch which adds a second level game (and DLC) patching directory, and the game's patch folder goes in ux0:repatch/ instead. I can confirm that works since I've been playing it, minor typos and text exiting the dialog boxes aside.

If you're after something challenging or serious this is not for you. For me, it's the fun characters, serviceable if not great gameplay (Re;births and Victory at least, most of the others are crap) fanservice, and all the vidya love. I mostly treat it as a relaxing thing to play like Pokémon, and something to break the hell out of. Also for a JRPG there's one major thing it gets right: Battles start and end almost instantly, and most battle animations are skippable. Since most EXE drive moves are as long as Final Fantasy VII summons and they dominate mid-to-late game, that's really appreciated. Cutscenes, while not skippable, can be fast-forward at least.

Think I've hit a wall in the normal end, but I unlocked a bunch of new places and found some extra stuff, so onto 4th loop. Neptune gets a CPU Aegis since some of the new places give out plenty of gold, and there was one in particular that has "staff of sell for 100000 gold" as a findable thing in boxes. Those were in Re;birth 1 as well, and in the same reused dungeon type. Also I thought drill was overpowered, I was right. Wonder if it works with the DLC girls and their not-HDD-mode that might still count as such.

Didn't say they were a cakewalk, and some of the Colosseum and extra dungeons get rough, as are parts of the early game, especially in Re;birth 2. However it's still more "choose your own difficulty" because of the two difficulty adjustment plans, and that you can generally level up past anything hard, which happens naturally if you're exploring. Also on PC version it's easy to forget what's DLC stuff and what's actually intended, because the majority of that is unbalanced.

Also that all goes to hell in NG+ because they don't rebalance anything, so the main story becomes a formality at that point. When I do Re;birth 1 again I'll be picking up any candidate girls just before the final boss to limit that. Uni if I only have space for 1, Rom/Ram if 2.

Each is 1024MB so it'll depend how much space I have before starting NG+, and I'll be holding off on plans other than for opening dungeons and key items. From memory you can find varying +MB items as random drops as well as at fixed points in the story, but you're limited to some number of each one, might've been 6? Also actually I think I'll start over, and not use Plutia. She can be left as a fresh NG+ character as well as whichever candidates I go for.

Consistency with the characters is important.

Just obtained MAGES. and have only used 276MB of 1536MB. Most went to unlocking dungeons (haven't changed any yet however) and the +itemfind plan (128MB) plus a pittance for important consumable items and a weapon or two. I'll definitely have enough space for a Uni now, but would it be possible to fit Rom and Ram in too this playthrough? If not I'll go through it a second time, and then do it. Ultimately I want all 3 at lowest possible level to start like a new game, but with the 3 girls that you only get for part of 2, and stuff-all for 3.

Also re-found the money maker for mid-game. I'm really bothered by how bad the hidden item mechanic is in all the Re;births. Like, I prefer the way they are obtained and noticeable in RB3 as almost invisible Mario blocks, instead of spamming square button, but they all have the same root problem: Few possible spawn points within a map so just note where they are and try each one, eject, repeat. You don't need the Laplace Eye plan unless you're super-lazy. The visible [?] pick-ups also seem to suffer from lack of randomness, as I definitely noticed when farming drill chips (about 50:50 to find as one of the pick-ups towards the start of the level, eject, repeat).

While it’s not a 2D game, I am playing a lot of Octopath Traveler between Neptunia builds on the Switch, and I’m really enjoying it.

<What was done to make sure new characters like Chrom, Mai, Kukei and Surara fit in with the existing console goddesses and cast members?

>MR: So as I mentioned, the creation of the game scenario was primarily handled by Mizuno-san’s team at Compile Heart in Japan, and Artisan then needed to create the art and animate these things. They were the creators of these new characters when they developed the storyline for Super Neptunia RPG. Artisan primarily developed the quests, so we used the guidelines from the scenario to ensure they fit in the rest of the characters from the Neptunia universe. We also made sure that we had all of our content for these new characters, like dialogue and quests, validated in Japanese by the design team at Compile Heart before localizing the game into other languages.

In any case it turns out I'm all good because Rom and Ram are a two-for-one, so only 2048MB required for my new game trio. They're good and decently balanced as well, the shares mechanic it adds is pretty cool too.

Went with a far better plan: Activate Nepgear and Uni plan, finish game, acquire Nepgear at start and Uni shortly after, and then I will acquire enough space to get Rom/Ram when I get to them. Only problem is the candidates start out incredibly strong even at level 1 and solo Nepgear wiped the floor with Arfoire's supposed-to-lose fight.

Also for being the game over screen mascot, Hyperdimension Dogoo was non-threatening with how much I'd been doing. Unless he comes in a super-hard variant like the Clione does.

I'd say the 4 main characters are just for a company and its mainline consoles in general, mostly from RB3 where for example Blanc starts off resembling the Famicom but gradually obtains alt HDD items for Super Famicom, N64, GameCube, and Wii. The other 3 have similar upgrades. In RB1 they just resemble the state-of-the-art (at the time) seventh-gen consoles with a variation or two.

At least made the right call in choice of shop since they mostly sell weebshit, and their game systems don't have high turnover due to two big-name stores right next to it. In any case the box was dusty, and the actual system was only at 2.56. Just updated it to 5.05 but the hacking can wait. For now it's a 4GO machine.

Well there's immediately one thing I don't like about PS4: It requires PSN even for game patches. Apparently it's possible to install them another way but I couldn't find any of the ones for it in that DB. Thankfully they've been pretty good at not releasing outright broken games so I'll hope for that.

As for the game itself, initial impressions! I'm down on the setting, because their universe is actually cool, while this has the mains playing some fairly standard video game setting, outside of some familiar enemy faces. The mains get to talk about vidya stuff and be cute but I doubt there will be levels like the one with floating islands made of hexagon shapes. At least I'm seeing some new levels though, and generally, it's refreshing that they tried hader when making this game. Visually, well, their 3D stuff is acceptable (excellent for a lower-tier dev), but the 2D stuff is friggin' gorgeous, and I really love the new Nep designs (special mention to Noire).

Combat system, ehhh. Very basic but not deal-breaking for me. Largely "beat on them, parry when they attack, maybe use a special move once in a while" and attacking itself is unsatisfying. The parrying window is way too long though this is counter-balanced by some enemies having awkward "tells" or if they're masked by flashier special moves. I blame Tamsoft if they're involved with this one.

Other stuff? Well even if the setting doesn't allow a lot of standard Neptunia mechanics, they do attempt to port over a few like the overworld, and HDD, and there's plenty of cute girls and dressing of cute girls. Also still really really love this game's QUALITY pathfinding, though followers are actually useful unlike Drakengard 3.

For anyone that's interested

For reasons, I won't be able to play 4GO for a while, but I warmed more to its battle system, after realizing Xenoblade 2, and because certain bosses get tense if you aren't keeping track of your other 3. The one major bug I have run into is the characters occasionally freezing in place, for what I suspect are to load things, but really don't know. More annoying, multiple instances of being trapped in a boss hitbox and not being able to escape without killing them, or dying, and speaking of death, this doesn't even have a silly game over screen.

Also I was both overjoyed and dismayed that Noire's alt costume is Clear Dress, because it's my favourite, but her 4GO costume is even better, and I'd rather it was an alternative in games that only have La Victoire. I swapped to standard garb for most of the others too, except Neptune.

You don't even have to go as far a LOLIcon to see marked improvement with any of the Neptunia games. Just oclockvita/vsh is enough. Personally I prefer the compromised version anyway because the parts that lag I typically skip over anyway. Also they're the sort of game I prefer on portable, which is why I'm a bit down on VII/VIIR.

Both 1 and 2 let you tilt the player models in places like the equip menu. Not sure how it is done on PC but on Vita it's done through the touch screen. 3 has the same thing but you can only tilt them slightly unless you make the character jump 100 times, and then build their "Keep the peeping down" plan. There's also that PC mod that one guy used to make a full upskirt gallery.

With all that said it's more fun to just enjoy the glimpses when using special attacks. Blanc's spinning hammer one is the funniest.

They don't push that whole pirating bad thing strongly except in Re;birth 2, and even then I really don't care. They're allowed to have an opinion, and more importantly, don't treat their fans like pirates. Also even the games that do more creative anti-pirating don't do it to incentivize doing so. That's getting rarer anyway thanks to homogenized console DRM and that it's mostly soulless AAA using it on PC.

I finally have the capability to dig up this silly Neptune thing. Got some 4GO play today too, which unfortunately was janky and I had lots of random control loss happen, occasionally during boss fights. Didn't make a lot of actual progress. Also someone needs to do an upskirt gallery for that game, it has full unlocked camera in the menus and lots of nice Nep stuff to look at even without that.

Some of them are PC ports but frankly, the state of modern PCs and modern Windows is so loathsome I have no interest in it. Console DRM homogeny is also a good thing in terms of when it's broken, most/all of the games do.

Right now though I haven't gotten around to setting up any hacks. It's primed to be at 5.05, and for now I'm just using it for 4GO. VII maybe if I can figure out how to add the JP voice DLC. I've got Vita keeping me occupied in the meantime.

My main phone has none of the Gapps shit, it's going on the old one which has been reinstalled with Gapps for this purpose but the region stuff is doing my head in.
