Well done! I'm going for engineering, when we last spoke I was in training for being a machinist, but I did so well and got 100% in everything they and the company I was assigned to (I was prototyping stuff for them in my first few months of learning tobe an engineer, that's pretty much unheard of btw) reccommended and helped me apply for uni and were my referees.

Now I'm on a degree for engineering. So…. the maths is fucking hard wont lie. I'm really good at materials, chemistry, and thermodynamics though, including thermofluid mechanics.

I suppose it works good as something to walk to, I meant to reduce the volume a bit and take out a lot of the echo but it was a first draught that people wound up liking.

I tried to knit a sheet and wound up with essentially a ferret scarf.

My ferret liked it but that was just cause it decided to line its nest with it.

I learned a lot of different cuisines tbh.

I can cook and enjoy cooking most of them.

Depending on my mood, I've mostly gone veggie lately but I can still cook meats etc, I learned to cook chinese foods from a chinese flatmate, learned italian and uk food etc.

Good chance I can cook it if you name it and I enjoy making others happy which is partly why I learned to cook and bake, even learned some artisan breads.

Used to get lots and lots of compliments on my desserts though, they're what I put most effort in to, my spice game is still developing but I can even make curries from scratch and people enjoy those.

Thing is, learning how to use spices properly takes time and trial and error. So I'm getting better each time atleast.

it's a lot of prep, then 10-20 hours of continuous cooking. every kitchen is different however. at the breakfast diner, it was a lot of chopped ingredients, ham, bacon, veggies, as well as eggs. you always want to have a prep cook on hand, always, just in case you run low.

however, in a mexican place you want more prep cooks to cook all the stuff not to prep in the moment, but for tomorrow, things like mojo, salsa verde, seasoned and cured meat that stuff. since everything is covered in some sort of hot plant, they go bad much slower, so you can afford to let them sit in the fridge longer.

tbh, I am guilty of pursuing interests of a girly nature out of the idea that they would make me feel more feminine, but professional cooking is by all means a man's job. there's lots of heavy lifting and working in horrible working conditions just for spit change. it's not rewarding in the least, if I am to be honest. if you want to make people happy, stick to cooking for friends and family, if you want to hate your job, and hate cooking with constant stress from picky eaters complaining that jalapenos are too spicy, stick to restaurant cooking. lol

I really do love cooking though. Beats working in a manufacturing job, that was constant heavy lifting, getting cuts and fingers caught and burned, having to pull metal our of my skin etc.

Gets you real strong though.

As for prepping, yeah I usually prep a fuck ton and if I'm able to, freeze a whole load of ingredients ahead of time to save money and time, and sometimes even do a massive cook day where I'll cook 2 weeks worth of meals and individually portion and freeze them or make my bases for curries and soups or stocks and freeze those in portion so I don't need to fuck around in the week between classes.

Makes cooking so much faster.

Funny you should mention gardening, I used to have an allotment and portion off large parts of my garden to cultivate vegetables and stuff, even wild strawberries which have stronger flavours than the non wild variety, though are much smaller.

And yeah I love cooking, I was the sole cook in my house for about 5 years whilst I was a carer for a family member while they battled with cancer, they won don't worry so I learned the joy of cooking and decided to expand our choice of cuisines by learning new stuff often.

Though I imaginet hey got bored of tasting my soups and stuff which I would remake multiple times with slight variations to find the ebst type, however my fish pie/admmirals pie/ ocean pie depending on small changes including using prawns, cheese no cheese etc was a huge success from everyone that has had it, I apparently give too large portions sometimes.

Esepcially if someone requests something and I wind up doing what I can to perfect it then, e.g. recently learned how to cook venison really nicely due to a request.

I didn't have a large spice rack though, honestly I slowly built up my spices for recipes as they were called for as I didn't have much cash.

Another reason I would buy in bulk then freeze as it costs less money.

I was solely responsible for the food and stuff so I worked hard to be able to train, clean, and cook with what I could, still did a good job I think.

Yeah, when my grandmother was dying of cancer I would see her 4 or so times a week and sit with her, take her out in her wheelchair, knit with her and bring her dinners and food I baked or cooked down to cheer her up.

Barely anyone else came there. It broke my heart, especially when family members had the gaul to fight over her possessions when she was gone. But I still made her happy despite the pain she was in.

ye i understand that. i take things very personally is the problem. as well as when i was fucked out of my mind i didnt even know who i was anymore. i had some seriously disorganized thinking, and its not even perfect at this point. but ive regained a majority of clarity and its a great feeling. i still drink coffee, but thats really not making a big difference in the grand scheme of things.

im overall a lot more sensitive, still get really awful anxiety, bad depression at times, but anxiety has been killing me most recently. im glad to be in recovery to deal with these things instead of destroying myself with substance abuse.

yes anxiety is especially a bitch and its only been accentuated by the prior drug abuse. paranoia is really shit, too, but ive become better about it at the least.
