So I checked around the catalog and nobody talked about the game, right now the game is on steam in Early Access.
Please Anons, tell us your experience with this first vidya.

Haven't played it since the last update because of a lack of time. Apparently now they've added heavy attacks and an additional campaign to the game, which sound like major improvements.
I believe it's worth it, as I was able to put over 15 hours into the game. But that was my personal experience, by how I evaluate a game.
The thing I loved the most, though, was reading the "community" posts, as people discussed how OP Yang and Ruby are, and how hard it was to play Weiss or Blake. Now, let's make this clear: Ruby was easily the most powerful of the four girls, and a pain in the ass to have on your team when you're trying to go for kills for unlocks. But once you've finished that shit, and are simply playing for the goal of playing, you'll find that there's really not that much complexity into playing her.
Blake and Weiss require a lot of tactical movement. With some skill, you can clear out shit with Weiss. But that's nothing on what Blake can do, especially with Earth Clone (Ice and Fire are shitty upgrades) and her other specials unlocked. Given the right build, you can clear any enemy in the game. She also has the best weapon for ranged attacks, which means you can dispatch the exploding monsters and shit. Crescent Rose is technically better, with upgrades, but it's more finicky with the aim. Until they add target-lock (or crosshairs), then it's fucked.
Yang is retard-mode to play. You pretty much cannot die. That's all she has going for her, in my opinion.

Let's put it this way:
If you know what the hell you are doing with Weiss, you can re-enact pic related and act as the single most effective boss killer of the group. You can also be the most cost-effective AoE spammer of the team.
Blake requires speed to play well, and combo-chaining. You can't just focus on one - you need to use multiple combos, on top of your combat buffs. Plebians love her Blade Beam, but that's the worst skill she has, in my opinion. If you play her like she behaves in the show - teleport in, deliver a chain for a combo, and then use a shadow clone to teleport out - you can take out both a boss and a mob in a single go, all without taking a single hit.

Last update a few weeks ago, so you will have to wait. It's a team made of only 4 developers that are cleary not working 24/7 on the game, so updates sadly are really slow.
There are a few mods already:
Horde Mode, GrimmSpawn+ (GrimmSpawnX2/X3/X4), +AcidGrimm, PVP. And a few texture changes for Yang. Nothing too elaborate, but guess some of them could be worth checking if you got already bored with the game as it is.

I've played it and it was pretty fun the first time around, but even then the combat was too simple. I get its early access though, so I hope they tighten up the controls since the girls all felt pretty loose, but what I did try of it is it seems to want to be a poor mans Devil May Cry with coop.
I haven't tried the update yet, I didn't even know it had one. I broke my rule on early access.

>I haven't tried the update yet
It has gotten really mixed reviews as far as I know. Some people love it, some people hate it.
It introduces cool stuff like the heavy attacks, charged heavy attacks, counters, and team attacks; but at the same time messes up with some stuff that was ok before, like the specials, the camera, the rythm of the combos.
Can't tell exactly why, but I had more fun playing before the update.
>>6396
It would be really great. I imagine different areas on the world designed to do different stuff.
>Outside Beacon
Open areas to kill Grimm.
City could have a small store/mart (buy costumes for the characters and shit like that)
Night Club to listen to music and fight with Junior and friends (could be a survival mode with an infinite amount of guys attacking you).
>Inside Beacon
Run freely trough the building,
Small minigames like "find Zwei" "find X character" or "find x missing object".
Cafeteria could be a Team PVP (foodfight/minigame) area
Dormrooms could be a Pillowfight PVP/minigame area
Library to play that weird card game.
Some extras like concept art, some sort of beastiary/encyclopedia on Grimm, Dust, Remnant.
X-ray and Vav comics.
There would be a lot iddling and chatting, mostly at the city and inside the academy, that would add to the open world feeling.
Think like how APB Reloaded has a Commercial/Social District where you buy, create, costumize and show of sutff, and get to know people there.

>Kill more Grimms.
>Inside Beacon to play minigames, PVP, finding Zwei.
>Library having concept arts, encyclopedia for characters and lore, and a Card minigame.
This could make it this game pretty good, but they should take their time.

we would need to wait for this story to be finished which is probably for the best.
that being said this was originally a fan game so if a detailed outline of a new game like this gained allot of attention down the road, they may just do it.
Pros:
>can add more world info indefinitely
>can have linear stories like the current ones in separate zones
>remnant has allot of potential to be a visually stunning and interesting world to explore.
> can hint at remnants past in subtle ways.
>new Grimm can be added freely
Cons:
>more expensive and time consuming to make well
>would be a long way off, rwby needs to stay popular for a few more years for this to come about.
>npcs would be a pain in the ass to design and voice (could be offset by fans at cost of quality)
>would almost necessitate a significant slow down of production for the main show.
it's doable but the odds of it getting the kind of support it would need is pretty small.

>npcs would be a pain in the ass to design and voice (could be offset by fans at cost of quality)
They could voice only important npcs, like Ozpin, Glynda, Poter, Oobleck, Junior and make the rest voiceless background characters or give them generic audio clips, a lot of mmorpgs already do that. And they already have a ton of random citizens/beacon students designed for V2/V3, and on top of that they are mostly the same body with different hairstyles and color schemes, so they wouldn't be resource heavy at all, and it would even give them chance to easily implement casual clothes/pajamas/school uniform skins for team RWBY.
Have to agree with the rest of your post. But guess we could simplify the idea as much as we can before giving it to them, and cross fingers of course.

Haven't played it yet, but according to the steam news and reviews it's just a small patch for the Combar Revision:
>new animations and less cooldown to make the combos more fast/fluid
>sprint is faster now
>counters are more difficult to perform but you can chain them in combos
>damage balancing
>enemy spawning is more random
>new sounds (includying Blake's VA this would be the closer to new content I guess)
>fixed team attacks (now enemy attacks don't stop them)
>fixed collision bugs and mob spawning bugs on Emerald Forest
>fixed some bugs on Weiss and Yang (people complain about Yang loosing her super jump move)
>fixed the camera seizures for keyboard+mouse users

Played a little bit today. My experience on the update. Keep in mind I only played with Yang, things might be different for other characters.
>combos feel fast and fluid again, that's great.
>heavy attacks feel less out of place in a combo, still need a lot of timing to chain them correctly
>didn't really notice any changes on the sprint.
>counters and team attacks are a pain in the ass to do if you are not the host.
>don't find counters usefull at all (they are requered to unlock certain passives though) you can easilly attack the grimm just when his attack animation starts.
>counter has a small animation, there are going to be a ton of headbanging jokes with that.
>waves feel longer, or at leats feels it takes more hits to kill an enemy, but ursas feel a lot easier to kill.
>camera seems to be a little better, doesn't go full motion sickness now, but is still far from perfect, it still goes inside walls, under the floor, and zooms to far into the characters. still a pain in the ass for gamepad users.
On a side note, the game bugged like never did before, not sure if the update had something to do with that or not.
>our Blake literally can't move anymore after doing a counter.
>after we accept the fact there is no way to fix it, Blake decides to disconnect.
>as soon as she does our Weiss gets teleported outside the fucking map.
>I get teleported to the beggining of the map
>go back to the bomb, not a fucking grimm on sight
>Weiss still in the air.
Had a lot of fun with that, but they will need to invest a lot of time to fix that kind of stuff.

Seems the RTgames kinda backpedaled after the big backslash from most people at steam.
They say will go back to the toon-like shader and work on facial expressions to make them look less like dead sexdolls. Hope they go back to the old textures too, to avoid those derpy eyes.
Seeing how RWBY is currently RT's golden egg laying duck they shouldn't risk displeasing a part of its fanbase like that.
I know RT probably wants to keep the game devs team as small as possible, and that an actual professional dev may be too expensive for them to hire, but they really need to get some experienced guy as advisor for them. There is a lot of stuff they could make to improve the perfomance of the game without having to have drastic aesthetic changes like they did, specially since the anime/toon look allows for a lot of liberties on it you wouldn't have if making a more realistic looking game. They probably aren't too familiar with that kind of stuff and spect Unity to make all that work for them.

I didn't even think the "anime" look was so taxing. Honestly, for a game that has PS2 graphics, if people are having performance issues, either they have shitty rigs, or the devs messed too much with the engine. Did people report improved performance after this update?
Disclaimer: this post and the subject matter and contents thereof - text, media, or otherwise - do not necessarily reflect the views of the 8kun administration.
1f9b5d No.17208
>>17134
Doubt the anime look is the cause of the performance issues, as you say, there is a lot of games with that look that work perfectly on older pcs. In my opinion, judging by what I have seen in some /v/ threads the models (and probably everything else) are badly optimized, have a pretty high polycount, a really messy uv mapping and lots of unnecessary meshes, like the back of their heads behind their hair and so on. Plus they were drawing them twice to get the black line effect. They work perfectly for the show, but a game is a very different thing.
My girlfriend plays on a shitty rig, dual core, 4 gbs of ram. Potato settings and 800x600 resolution of course. But other that than she never had any perfomance issues, and her FPS never went below 35-40, so I'm guessing they messed up really hard with the engine.
So far I have seen only 3 or 4 people posting about actual improvement on the performance after the update. Most people are actually complaining they have even worst performance now, with some people not being able to go past the Rooster Theet games screen.

Played it recently and agree that the final boss and the ending overall were anticlimatic as fuck. Final boss should had a second more powefull form to spice things up, and you should have a time limit to reach the airship after you defeat it, with androids trying to stop you.
I don't really care too much about the story, so the early levels were more fun than the last ones to me. Will play it sometimes, since it's fun, but is in no way a perfect game, and no way worth it's current price. Let's wait to see what they'll do in the small updates they promised.

That would be so fucking hilarious. Is kind of a shame they didn't go with that.

Also, I'm really dissapointed to see they keep using those horrid pics for the portraits. RT seriously needs a guy in charge of quality control for their official art.

Can't believe they aren't doing V2 costumes, people are asking for them since the game was released.
Also still hating Yang's and Nora's portraits.

Not really worth it considering the fact that it won't add anything to the game.
Are they planning on adding anything of actual value to the game? Or is this the end of GE?

Totally agree. They should have released the V2 outfits instead of this (those are worth the money in my opinion) and save these for a food-battle pvp map. I would make way more sense.

Unless they add new animations and actual balance to the game with the update and DLC, then I won't buy the DLC.
Besides, changing costumes is really easy with mods. At least this makes it just a little bit more interesting when I'm speedrunning the game.

>New animations
Totally agree on that. They, could at least, add more taunts, except for Ren and Nora, theirs are perfect the way they are.
>and actual balance
As far as I know, when JNPR was realeased and people asked if there was plans to rework team RWBY, devteam said team RWBY is done and they will not touch them. A wasted oportunity to make them more fun to play with.
>changing costumes is really easy with mods.
Sadly the game is not as mod-friendly as they said it was going to be. There is still some impressive thing made for it anyway. Pic realted is my favorite, a WIP from someone on Steam. Now if they added steam workshop support, that would be great. Maybe they don't do it to keep fans from releasing free content they could charge for instead?
I think the biggest fuck up with this DLC is that it doesn't encourage you to play again. If at least one of the extra costumes sets was a unlockable it would force people to play again, that would be way more fun, and you would get the feeling of actually having earned them.

That's the problem with costume DLCs. How would you encourage people to come back and play the game though? New missions and levels? Maybe more modes?

New missions and levels would be the best approach, but they clearly don't want to work too much on the game anymore, even if we talked about shorter and simpler missions, so I would aim for simpler stuff.
New modes could be a way to give players more content us and still be less work for them. Horde mode was a step in the right direction there, I have played it way more than campaign mode. Things like a time survival mode could be easy to implement and has a lot of of replayability value, specially if you have an online ranking table. Challeges/trials (proper ones, not that "reset your level and restart" rank bullshit they have at the moment). Some sort of Vs. mode. A real PVP would need a lot of rework and balancing, but to avoid that they could make it more like a mini-game. Have both players with the same character fighting against something, and the one that kills their's faster wins.
And the simplest way: just make the costumes unlockables.

Please god let this somehow lead to some Jap company buying the rights to RWBY and turning it into something good. Even if it takes years.

I would love that. Nitroplus does good shit. And then it could get an animu adaptation with decently choreographed fight scenes and an obligatory beach episode.
