For years I laughed at the Dark Enlightenment for being a bunch of stupid assholes, but I actually read a summary of their opinions for the first time since 2011 and now I'm kind of afraid I might be one of them.

So, before I go get myself kicked out of every social group I'm a part of, clue me in as to why I'm actually not. Because, aside from being inexplicably racist and thinking that obeying the law (lol) is an admirable terminal value (lol!), most of what they say about i.e. civilization seems a lot more intelligent than what leftists and Whigs have to say?

I read some expose of the DE with a diagram of lots of the writers. It ended up being a "More writers you may like" for me.

If you want to not get kicked out of the fun dinner parties, learn to lie and/or dissimulate. You already know the leftists' and whigs' memeplexes, so this shouldn't be too difficult.

Blogs like bloody shovel have some really nice insights:

… and some stupid shit, like kek worship. But it's mostly good.

>stupid shit, like kek worship

The people worshiping a cartoon frog have got more of what they want done than rationalists.

Except they didn't do it, it just happened without their intervention.

Not saying this is the case, but it might be, you tell me:

You read about a system that is novel to you, you found it interesting, you got where they were coming from, you saw how their conclusions lined up with their starting points.

Now you're at the point where you're close to saying, "well, I guess that's it, this ticked all my boxes, this must be THE ONE TRUE SYSTEM".

Ask yourself whether this goes for just this particular system, or if you could find yourself nodding along to something that runs counter to NRx as well, given that it was as well-laid-out.

What I'm trying to say here is that humans crave identity like a drug. Right now you've had a few hits of some new and exotic drug and you want more. But consider that there are many more drugs out there for you to sample, to which you would have a similar reaction.

Don't be a heroinist (unless you absolutely have to), be a junkie!

It is :P

One of my continuous worries is that I believe too much of the things I read online, and that I update too often when faced with appropriate insight porn. So I'm trying to pick bits and pieces of different places, with the goal of being correct overall.

Some good counterarguments to the NRx are in Scott's Anti-Reactionary FAQ. But HBD in particular doesn't seem to be, and people wanting to keep their culture or civilisation needing stability aren't either.

For what it's worth, you don't have to hate black people, jews, and women if you don't want to. I didn't hate any of those groups before I started reading DE stuff and I don't now. See also: Steven Pinker, _The Blank Slate_.

It's called meme magic, not meme cause and effect.

I've noticed a ton of false positives in the ideological systems I've been flirting with lately. As in, I'll check off all the boxes and think "Well I guess that's okay with me" and then I've somehow ended up supporting three different movements that all want to kill each other in the streets. So I think I need to expose my political beliefs to more irl confirmation…

Joke's on you, this is how political factions work. They don't hate each other based on actual disagreements so much as differences in idiom, and outside certain big issues, disagreement doesn't even inhere in factions. It's all about idioms, emotional loading, and what gets emphasized.

You should believe in Niceness, Community, Civilization, Cooperation and Forgiveness. That way, if you end up completely agreeing with multiple movements, by definition they can live together peacefully.
