I've seen conflicting FAQs aout 8chan text formatting. So here's a test:
*single asterisks*
double asterisks
_single underscores_
double underscores
`single backticks`
``double backticks``
BBcode-style spoiler tags
# hash prefix

Okay, so there's underline, strikethrough, and spoiler, but no bold or italic? (And red heading-ish text.) But why pick double asterisks to do spoilers?

If you found a Minecraft server for rationalists, and bring in ten people, seven of them will build mob spawners and three will build the roads that connect the mob spawners.
When they're done, they'll log off and never join the server again.
This is what will kill this board. Everybody wants to make roads and nobody wants to use them.

The minecraft thing is not an analogy.
It is 100% true.
Hence why Factorio is the nerd drug^Wgame of choice, aka "build infrastructure for the purpose of feeding a massive factory dedicated to the task of producing more infrastructure."

>build infrastructure for the purpose of feeding a massive factory dedicated to the task of producing more infrastructure
This is how I have been my whole life. It does betray a certain lack of creativity, no? Creative people, the sort of people who actually make content, seem to err on the side of producing too little infrastructure. I think they prefer using footpaths to building roads.
