OPs 90s analogy is interesting
>90s
>usa libs lose their shit over bush and regan era

<usa libs lose their shit over trump maga
>90s
>usa libs and some rightists tire of The Moral Majority™
<current year
<mike pence wants to electrocute the gays!
>90s
>libs expect clinton to be some socially liberal game changer
>libs find out the hard way it's just business as usual
<current year
<libs expect biden to be some socially liberal game changer
<libs will find out the hard way it's just business as usual
one big difference between now and then that's been like a political /pol/ flip, pun intended, is that it seems now, at least when looking at mainstream media, that liberal centrists are pro-war while, at least under trump, conservatives wanted an america first platform and trump administration was the least war like administration america has seen in a long time. if one tallied up a body count based on 4 year presidential terms, it would probably blow the minds of many self identified liberals that trump was comparatively speaking, a man of peace. a quality that "the left" used to value above all others.
and as far as any economic comparisons go between now and the 90s, we're in the uncharted waters of negative interest rates and the dollar as a failing world reserve currency. iirc republicans forced a balanced budget during the clinton years, but i can't imagine that happening again anytime soon. an unprecedented scenario.
