When did you finally come to realize that engaging in politics is a complete waste of time? for me, it was yesterday evening.

the only reason people engage in politics is because they get paid for doing that (or because they are retarded people without anything to do)

I wouldn't consider my self a bad debater, I got tired of winning, but yeah it's quite a boring time, the only boards I browse here now are /g/ and /v/

Pretty much the first day I used Usenet. Unqualified people pretending to have original ideas about an open-ended century-old topic? I didn't get into University because I was retarded. Autistic maybe.
I blame billg whose lust for money meant filling the Net with cripples.

My problem is most of the time it's a win-by-defaulting, after the other person just shifts the topic or starting pull out logical fallacies, or even just parroting bandwagon slogans. My mother is fucking bad at that.

They (certainly my mother) immediate catch out that I'm /skeptical/ of their beliefs if I show anything except immediate blind following.
Once upon a time, the Internet only had to deal with Gun Control threads from some uninvited Americunt getting triggered by a group on non-Americans. Now 'politics' makes up 90% of all discussions outside of porn forums.

you can play the almost converted who just has one last question.
what do they do if you are skeptical? if they become defensive make them defend a point then flank and attack from the rear.
but, destroying your mother in argument, what is the gain?

Exactly. But then I've already been told I've been written out of her Will for calling her incompetent (when?)
Oh well, means I'm not obligated having to clean up her hoard.

I'm not sure but have felt this way for a long time, am not liberal or conservative and used to be a liberal until 2016 when a really good friend made some really strong arguments for conservatives and I unblocked my ears to being in the mentality of lalalala you're opinion is always stupid and mine is always right, they did not make me a conservative but they made me a moderate and it felt so awesome actually listening. I don't really care for politics, and I don't understand if someone STRONGLY cares about X and the other person STRONGLY cares about Y, I don't understand why they'd yell at each other, it's like if a person who hates sports gets into a giant argument with someone who loves it, they are VERY UNLIKELY to change opinions and are WASTING TIME.

I have a few old friends who are rabid lefties of a kind, but... they do actually make consistent arguments for their beliefs, and do listen to (my) counter arguments in return. Gamergate was about the last thing we chatted about though.
Unfortunately the only consistent-argument Conservative I know is a flaming faggot who irritates when he's /not/ talking about politics..
