I heard many people mention how the Internet was essentially designed for accessing pornographic materials. Porn has been circulating online since the start of the Internet. I remember porn online back in the 1990s. There isn't any purpose of the Internet besides porn. The Internet made accessing porn much more convenient.
Of course, it goes without saying that none of your porn browsing history is private. The governments know about which porn sites you are surfing/browsing.

My step dad told me back in the day people used to jerk off to ASCII text porn because it took hours to just download one picture. We loved how quick you could download whole videos from Kazaa and shit

I don't know the specific mechanism that determine the speed of porn downloads, but my downloads vary from 500 kilobytes per second download speeds to sometimes 5 megabytes per second. The average download speed is about 2 megabytes per second. So a 1 gigabyte file would take around 500 seconds or about 8 minutes to download on Firefox Browser.

Wait.... are you saying the government knows I'm obsessed with lesbian asshole licking porn?
Well.... that's embarrassing.
I can imagine the FBI interview now "So Mr.Anon.... I see here you like the "Dyke asshole eaters 3" video. I must say... those close-ups of the tongue going into the woman's asshole sure are graphic... so anyway, about that tag you removed from that mattress you bought last week. You do realize removing it was a federal offense?"

was there any Internet in the late 1980s and early 1990s? I am assuming it was mostly just text files and still images back then rather than video streaming sites.

Yes, and yes. It was super basic shit, even the newest stuff in the late 90’s looked incredibly basic by today’s standards because they rarely layered any images or files to save space

No not at all
YouTube was meant to be a place to post video blogs originally, hence the name
