This is how. If a website is hosting illegal content, and you can access the content without paying for it, but there are advertisements on the site, then it is probably not a honeypot (since the site is being paid for by the ad revenues). If a website is hosting illegal content, and you have to pay for the content, then it is probably not a honeypot (since it requires payment from users to keep the site online). If a website hosts illegal content, it is free to access the content, and there is no advertisements, then it is probably a Fed honeypot (how can anyone host an illegal website without advertisements and without payment? Where does the website get its money for funding without ads or payment?).

Yeah, the third scenario is how to spot obvious Fed honeypots. Without ads and without payment, that is a huge red flag.

examples? Here are a few. For example, there are anime piracy websites, which host illegal pirated anime videos, but they are not honeypots because they are being funded by advertisements (although these ads are really sketchy/unsafe ads). There are porn sites which have no ads, but require payment to access its content, meaning it isn't a honypot because the user's payments are funding the site's servers. There are porn sites which are both free to access the content and also have no advertisements, that is a huge red flag, meaning it is likely an FBI honeypot, yet many people still fall for these traps. If you are using a site which hosts illegal content that is offered for free and without advertisements, then yeah it is probably a FBI honeypot, just saying.....
