The collapse of these sub-personalities is taken as an ego-death to these people. That is to say, to be released from the hold of this feels like an existential threat of some form.
In my Mum's island culture, they say not to talk with people who are possessed in this way. They call them Yakhava, that something is speaking through them.
In other cultures and traditions, this is talked about as possession.
What I am describing is a way of being, thinking and responding that was built - more deeply/intuitively in some than others - over years. And take some time to think about those more affected than others.

A circle that blocks out good people.
And to those within this barrier? Something has been taking place.
