OPCW Releases Douma “Chemical Attack” Report. No ‘Nerve Agent’ Found

Regarding the alleged use of toxic chemicals as a weapon in Douma, the evaluation and analysis of all the above-referenced information gathered by the FFM provide reasonable grounds that the use of a toxic chemical as a weapon has taken place on April 7, 2018. This toxic chemical contained reactive chlorine. The toxic chemical was likely molecular chlorine,” the OPCW’s report reads.

The visit debunked the earlier’ claims of anti-government sources as no bodies were found in the tunnel by the FFM. Furthermore, the samples collected from the tunnel showed no trace of toxic chemicals.

“Samples for analysis were collected in the tunnel following the sampling plan, but no chemicals relevant to the allegation were found,” the FFM said in its report.

The OPCW also stressed that its team found no traces of any designated chemical weapon agent during its investigation in Douma.

“[We] did not observe any major key precursors for the synthesis of chemical weapons agents, particularly for nerve agents such as sarin, or vesicants such as sulphur or nitrogen mustard,” the report reads.

U.S. officials had expressed confidence that both chlorine and sarin gas were used in Syria’s alleged chemical weapons attack on Douma. The claims regarding the Sarin are now confirmed to be northing but lies.

“While the available information is much greater on the chlorine use, we do have significant information that also points to sarin use,” the CNN quoted a senior administration official on April 14 of 2018.

Four Synthes executives went to jail, each for varying terms of less than one year, in the plea agreement. They admitted their company had feloniously conspired “to defraud the United States” in an effort “to impair and impede the lawful functions of the Food and Drug Administration.”

Wyss was not named in the indictment but was referred to as “Person No. 7” and the “CEO and a major stockholder of Synthes.” Wyss was CEO and major stockholder at the time of the indictment and the experiments.

Wyss, who now lives in Wyoming, is a major donor to scores of liberal groups in this country, with his contributions estimated to total more than $110 million, according to the HJW Foundation's tax filings with the IRS since 2008.

The Swiss Broadcasting Corp. reported last year that Wyss was the second-richest person in Switzerland. He is the 112th wealthiest man in the world, with a net worth estimated at $11.2 billion by Forbes magazine.

Despite his relationship with Podesta and active role in funding liberal political activism, Wyss is not well known to the American public.

In fact, George Soros, the high-profile financial supporter of many liberal groups, has given less to CAP than Wyss.

Wyss told a Swiss newspaper in a rare interview in 2011 that “nobody knows me, and I hope that it stays like this,” according to Fortune.

But federal court documents paint a graphic description of his firm's brazen decision to ignore the FDA’s drug approval procedures, which are intended to assure patient safety.

The FDA had previously approved another Synthes-produced substance for use in treating injured bones in the arm.

But in order for XR to be used in spinal cases, the company had to complete the government’s Investigational Device Exemption process.

Regardless of whether the company pursued the IDE process, however, the FDA required Synthes to include a warning label on the XR compound's container stating it was “not intended for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures.”

Wyss and his subordinates decided during a Nov. 15, 2001, meeting to forgo the IDE process and to proceed with the unauthorized human experiments, according to the indictment.

“Person No. 7 decided that Synthes would not pursue an IDE study,” the indictment said, referring directly to Wyss. The meeting minutes noted the CEO and his subordinates ordered 60-80 test procedures without FDA approval.

In a pre-sentencing report, Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Crawley described Wyss’s role: “After this [November] meeting Wyss, the CEO and major shareholder of Synthes, directed that Synthes would not pursue FDA approval of Norian XR via an IDE,” but “would press on with a ‘test market’” with surgeons.

Crawley also said the Synthes test market programs “were not slow or cautious, or careful, or motivated by patient safety.”

Davis said at a Dec. 13, 2011, sentencing hearing for Michael D. Huggins, one of the convicted Synthes executives, that “the safer and lawful approval route was expressly rejected.”

“One of the most offensive things was the little piddly sentence they got for this,” complained Eva Sloan, whose elderly mother, Lois Eskind, died during an XR experiment, according to Fortune.

Sloan filed a separate wrongful death lawsuit against the company in 2012 that charged “willful, wanton, malicious and reckless misconduct.”

The four executives “could have gone to 7-Eleven and stolen a six-pack of beer and got more time,” she said.

Sloan’s lawsuit was settled out of court. Laura Feld, Sloan’s attorney, said she could not comment because the settlement included a confidentiality agreement.

Defense attorney Brent J. Gurney told Davis at a sentencing hearing he thought Wyss was the missing person at the table.

“There is another person who is not present in this process,” he said while representing former Synthes executive Richard E. Bohner, “and that is the former chairman, CEO, controlling shareholder of the company, Mr. Wyss.”

Gurney, a former U.S. attorney, said, “Mr. Wyss was a highly involved owner of Synthes. The record shows that at the very beginning, it was he who made some of the very critical decisions that put the company on its ultimate pathway.”

Four top executives from the Pennsylvania firm served time in prison, but Wyss walked free under the Obama Justice Department despite being named “Person No. 7” in the federal indictment. Federal prosecutors originally identified Wyss as the CEO who repeatedly approved the illegal surgical operations.

The 2011 assault allegedly occurred when Long had a personal relationship with Wyss. But in April, she told Wyss she wanted to end the relationship due to mounting abuse, according to the handwritten complaint Long filed with the Morris Township Police Department.

In her complaint to Morris Township police, obtained years ago by TheDCNF, Long said, “I told him I wanted out of any relationship and just continue to do my work.”

Long was allegedly enticed to quit a job in Aspen, Colo., in 2009 to join Wyss as a marketing manager to the billionaire’s winery along with his HJW Foundation. Researcher Says First Gene-Edited Babies Born; Fellow Scientists Condemn His 'Unethical' Actions

According to a Stanford-educated Chinese researcher, the first ever genetically edited babies — twin girls whom he altered to be more resistant to HIV infection — were born this month, an action that is being condemned as "unethical" by some of his fellow scientists.

In an Associated Press report published Monday, He Jiankui of Shenzhen, China, who studied at Rice and Stanford before returning to China to open up his own lab, claims that he helped "design" the world's first genetically altered babies, who were born this month.

"He said his goal was not to cure or prevent an inherited disease, but to try to bestow a trait that few people naturally have — an ability to resist possible future infection with HIV, the AIDS virus," AP reports.

AP underscores that there's been "no independent confirmation of He’s claim, and it has not been published in a journal," though he has provided research materials to some of his colleagues. He first revealed the results of his alleged experiment in exclusive interviews with AP and then to an organizer of an international conference on gene editing.

"If true, it would be a profound leap of science and ethics," AP notes.

In his lab in China, He was able to perform gene editing banned in the United States in part because of its dubious ethical implications, which some of He's fellow scientists have stressed in response to his claims. The kinds of modifications the researcher has allegedly taken, his critics say, could negatively impact future generations.

"I feel a strong responsibility that it’s not just to make a first, but also make it an example," He said in a recorded interview posted by AP Monday. He hopes that his success will prompt the further, appropriate use of the gene-editing techniques.

AP cites Harvard's George Church, who heads the Synthetic Biology at the Wyss Institute, who believes He's actions are a "justifiable" step in preventing the spread of HIV, "a major and growing public health threat," but who has questioned He's experiment nonetheless.

Others, like the University of Pennsylvania's Dr. Kiran Musunuru, a gene editing expert, have strongly decried He's actions as "unsconscionable" and neither "morally or ethically defensible."

"We still have a lot of work to do to prove and establish that the procedure is safe," Musunuru told AP. "I would say that no babies should be born at this point in time following the use of this technology. It's simply too early, too premature."

Dr. Eric Topol, executive VP of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in California, echoed Musunuru, criticizing He's experiment as "far too premature."

After reviewing materials He provided, both Church and Musunuru particularly questioned He's decision to allow one of the two embryos to be used because He knew that only one of the copies of genes in that embryo had been altered.

Musunuru says that there was "almost nothing to be gained" in protection from HIV for that child because both genes must be altered to be effective, while the changes posed "unknown safety risks. He's use of the incompletely edited embryo, Church suggested, indicates that he's more interested in testing his editing techniques than actually immunizing the child.

"Even if editing worked perfectly, people without normal CCR5 genes face higher risks of getting certain other viruses, such as West Nile, and of dying from the flu," AP notes. "Since there are many ways to prevent HIV infection and it’s very treatable if it occurs, those other medical risks are a concern, Musunuru said."

AP suggests that He may have also misled authorities and participants about his research: He gave official notice of his research "long after" he began it, and one consent form describing the project simply as an "AIDS vaccine development" program.

Made with help from researchers at Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, DARPA’s Soft Exosuit is a lightweight skeleton frame which saves soldiers’ energy when going about their battlefield business.

The sci-fi exoskeleton can augment its wearer’s strength and endurance by assisting with movements and taking on some of the physical burdens of walking over long distances and carrying heavy objects, using in-built sensors and a micro-computer to intelligently match the requirements of its user.

A new study, where the suit was tested by seven soldiers on a 12-mile cross-country hike in Maryland, showed it reduced energy consumption by around 15 per cent, making troops more efficient and able to cover more ground.

One of DARPA’s big interests is the baffling world of artificial intelligence – smart computers which are capable of thinking in a similar way to humans.

Dr Steven Walker, the director at the head of the controversial agency, is currently funnelling a $2 billion (£1.55bn) investment into exploring how machines can be taught to communicate and reason in the same way we do.

The aim is to create lightning-fast military computers which can adapt to new situations, analyse battlefield data and ultimately advise soldiers and planners in the heat of a conflict, where every second counts.

However, AI has its critics, who warn that turning over the work of military analysis to machines creates the risk of a Skynet-style computer which could turn its considerable knowledge and power against humanity.
