Hillary Clinton is calling for public hearings on Robert Mueller’s Russia report while slamming Congress for not taking stronger action based on already-known information.

The defeated 2016 presidential candidate gave a wide-ranging interview on Wondery’s "TBD with Tina Brown" in which she discussed Mueller’s Russia investigation, President Trump’s North Korea talks, and the unique challenges facing women running in 2020.

Speaking about the Russia investigation, Clinton said: “There hasn't really been that kind of solemn, somber laying of facts and information before the public and the press that should happen in our democracy.

“There is enough grounds in what has already been made public for the government for Congress, in particular, to be doing more with [the Mueller report]. I'm pleased that under Speaker Pelosi, the Democrats are beginning to hold hearings and try to connect some of these dots.”

The former secretary of state also offered up some insight into her campaign, describing it as “kind of Obama 2.0,” and pointed the finger at Trump and the Russians for that campaign ultimately coming up short.

“I mean I obviously had hired a lot of Obama's people. They were incredibly able, they did a great job, but Trump, the Russians, Cambridge Analytica, all of his assorted allies, were running a campaign in an entirely different arena,” Clinton told Tina Brown.

“I don't think I or my people understood that, you know, we would see a little pop-up story that some idiot says that Pope Francis endorsed Donald Trump. Who is going to believe that, how ridiculous.”…..cont.

NC Based Airline Implicated In Shipping Arms To “Rebels” In Venezuela

While the United States has done everything in its power to turn Syria into Libya 2.0, it appears the U.S. is now attempting to turn Venezuela into Libya 3.0. Using many of the same tactics utilized in Syria and Libya, the US is utilizing political pressure, sanctions, and the establishment of a parallel government to weaken and overthrow the Maduro government in Venezuela. Now, however, there is evidence that the U.S. is going further and adding the arming of “rebels” to its toolkit in South America.

According to a report by McClatchy, a North Carolina-based freight company has been implicated in an arms smuggling operation to Venezuela. After McClatchy’s report was published, the company halted flights to the country.

This revelation comes after Venezuelan authorities claimed to have discovered 19 assault weapons, 118 ammunition cartridges, and 90 military-grade radio antennas on board a U.S.-owned plane that had flown into Valencia from Miami. The Boeing 767 is owned by 21 Air which is based in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Interestingly enough, the plane made around 40 round-trip flights between Miami and various locations in Venezuela and Colombia since January 11, the day after Maduro was sworn in to a second term as President. However, the flights abruptly ended after McClatchy first reported on them.

In a surprisingly coherent interview, Democracy Now! talked to Tim Johnson, the McClatchy reporter who broke the story. The transcript of that interview is below:

JUAN GONZÁLEZ: We turn now to Venezuela. A North Carolina-based air freight company has halted flights to that country following a report by McClatchy linking it to possible arms smuggling. Last week, Venezuelan authorities claimed they uncovered 19 assault weapons, 118 ammunition cartridges and 90 military-grade radio antennas on board a U.S.-owned plane that had flown from Miami into Valencia, Venezuela’s third-largest city. The Boeing 767 is owned by a company called 21 Air based in Greensboro, North Carolina. The plane had made nearly 40 round-trip flights between Miami and spots in Venezuela and Colombia since January 11th, which is the day after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was sworn in to a second term. The flights ended after McClatchy first reported on them. Venezuela accused the U.S. government of sending the arms as part of its attempt to topple the Maduro government. Bolivarian National Guard General Endes Palencia Ortiz said, “This materiel was destined for criminal groups and terrorist actions in the country, financed by the fascist extreme right and the government of the United States.”

AMY GOODMAN: 21 Air has denied knowledge of the arms shipment, saying the flight had been chartered by another company called GPS-Air, which also denied sending arms. While no definitive links between 21 Air and the U.S. government have been established, McClatchy reports the chairman of 21 Air, Adolfo Moreno, as well as another employee at the company have ties to Gemini Air Cargo, which was involved in the CIA’s rendition program during the administration of George W. Bush. In 2006, Amnesty International identified Gemini as a front company that had authorization to land on U.S. military bases worldwide.

The CIA has a long history of running front companies for covert actions. Most famously, the CIA ran a front airline called Air America, which operated from 1950 to 1976. In the ’80s, a CIA front company called Southern Air Transport was used to send arms to the U.S.-backed Contras in Nicaragua.

We’re joined now by Tim Johnson, who has been reporting on the story for McClatchy, joining us from Pennsylvania.

Instead, fell into a rabbit hole. "Director of Strategy" landed me on a London embassy page from February 2014 and at the bottom of the page where all the

juicy bits are, was a notation on "Responses" to three Blue Lantern cases. Whutza Blue Lantern case?

Apparently there is a program in place to verify that supplies/equipment sold to other countries by the USG are being used appropriately and within established guidelines. IOW,

if we sell something to country "A", the item isn't supposed to be resold to country "B", especially when country "B" may be sanctioned. So I started

looking around for Blue Lantern OIG reports. Found a report from 2006 that included case studies, one (#7) for "unauthorized transfer" from an unnamed

middle eastern country to South America which went like this:

US sells helicopters to Middle East country's military. The ME military sold those helicopters to a private ME company who then sold them a private user

in South America who then sold them to a bank in a different South American country. (Reading this triggered thoughts of the brothers' Isaias banking

escapades.)

Then I found this article on the website "War is Boring":

The investigators found that some of the private helicopters were in disrepair, and the contractors flew troops without armored plates.

The contractors painted their helicopters in military colors, against the Pentagon’s orders—potentially exposing their passengers to hostile fire.

And we learned that a Colombian military firm once investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration allegedly ripped off the U.S. military for

thousands of dollars—while its employees sat in on sensitive briefings without proper security clearances.

The auditors determined one Colombian contractor — Vertical de Aviación — overcharged American authorities more than $140,000. The Pentagon’s watchdog "wasn’t

sure" whether this was the only instance when officials overpaid for private contractor flights.

We don’t know if the Pentagon’s investigators were aware of it, but they would have had good reason

to be wary of the Bogota-based contractor. In two January 2010 diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks, U.S. federal law enforcement

agents suspected the company—formerly known as Helitaxi—and its owner of having ties with money launderers and drug traffickers.

"DEA confirms that the owner of Helitaxi, Byron Lopez Salazar, is a known money-launderer,” the U.S.

embassy in Bogota stated in a cable. “His name is indexed in 20 DEA case files."

So then I headed over to USAspending.gov and tried the Columbian Contractor from the article: Vertical de Aviacion. Sure enough,

they were in the database to the tune of ~$580 Million dollars. As disturbing as the Afghani flights are, they were also paid for flights

withing Columbia. (HeliTaxi did not show up)

I'm sure there is more to be discovered in Blue Lantern cases - but at a minimum based on just two documents, what I think I have is:

- A program that's supposed to monitor fuggery - Blue Lantern

- US Helicopter sales to the mideast that end up in Columbia, South America

- Columbians given a contract by the USG to fly soldiers and supplies around Afghanistan, a known poppy production country

- Yet another instance of uncleared Foreign civilians (employed by a known drug trafficker/money lauderer) sitting in on sensitive meetings.

The Denial of Taxes to the PA is an Ominous Sign of Netanyahu’s Grand Plan

Israel’s decision to withhold part of the taxes it collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority and plunge it deeper into crisis starkly illustrates the hypocrisies and deceptions at the core of the two governments’ relationship.

Under the terms of what are now the quarter century-old Oslo accords, Israel is responsible for collecting about $200 million each month in taxes, which it is supposed to pass on to the PA, the Palestinian government-in-waiting in the West Bank.

The money belongs to the Palestinians but Israel has temporarily withheld it on several occasions in the past as a stick with which to beat the Palestinian leadership into line.

On this occasion, however, the stakes are far higher.

Last week Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu belatedly implemented a law passed last summer that requires his officials to retain part of the taxes owed to the Palestinians – those that the PA transfers to political prisoners’ families as a monthly stipend.

It echoes the Taylor Force Act, a law passed by the US Congress in 2016, that denies American economic aid to the PA until it stops sending those same stipends to 35,000 families of prisoners and those killed and maimed by the Israeli army.

The PA has tried to avert that threat by channelling the payments through a separate body, the Palestine Liberation Organisation.

Israel and Washington regard the prisoners simply as terrorists. But most Palestinians view them as heroes, those who have paid the highest price in the struggle for national liberation.

The Palestinian public no more believes the families should be abandoned for their sacrifices than Irish republicans turned their backs on those who fought British rule or black South Africans forsook those who battled apartheid.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas called Israel’s actions “robbery” and said he would rather cut funding for health and education than for the prisoners and their families. “They are the most respected and appreciated part of the Palestinian people,” he declared.

Then he played his ace card. He said he would refuse all tax money from Israel until the full sum was reinstated.

Observers of developments in the Middle East have long taken it as a given that the United States and Israel are seeking for an excuse to attack Iran. The recently terminated conference in Warsaw had that objective, which was clearly expressed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but it failed to rally European and Middle Eastern states to support the cause. On the contrary, there was strong sentiment coming from Europe in particular that normalizing relations with Iran within the context of the 2015 multi party nuclear agreement is the preferred way to go both to avoid a major war and to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.

There are foundations in Washington, all closely linked to Israel and its lobby in the U.S., that are wholly dedicated to making the case for war against Iran. They seek pretexts in various dark corners, including claims that Iran is cheating on its nuclear program, that it is developing ballistic missiles that will enable it to deliver its secret nuclear warheads onto targets in Europe and even the United States, that it is an oppressive, dictatorial government that must be subjected to regime change to liberate the Iranian people and give them democracy, and, most stridently, that is provoking and supporting wars and threats against U.S. allies all throughout the Middle East.

Dissecting the claims about Iran, one might reasonably counter that rigorous inspections by the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirm that Tehran has no nuclear weapons program, a view that is supported by the U.S. intelligence community in its recent Worldwide Threat Assessment. Beyond that, Iran’s limited missile program can be regarded as largely defensive given the constant threats from Israel and the U.S. and one might well accept that the removal of the Iranian government is a task best suited for the Iranian people, not delivered through military intervention by a foreign power that has been starving the country through economic warfare. And as for provoking wars in the Middle East, look to the United States and Israel, not Iran.

So the hawks in Washington, by which one means National Security Adviser John Bolton, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and, apparently President Donald Trump himself when the subject is Iran, have been somewhat frustrated by the lack of a clear casus belli to hang their war on. No doubt prodded by Netanyahu, they have apparently revived an old story to give them what they want, even going so far as to develop an argument that would justify an attack on Iran without a declaration of war while also lacking any imminent threat from Tehran to justify a preemptive strike.
