A report says Facebook and the Federal Trade Commission are negotiating a “multibillion dollar” fine for the social network's privacy lapses.
The Washington Post said Thursday that the fine would be the largest ever imposed on a tech company. Citing unnamed sources, it also said the two sides have not yet agreed on an exact amount.
Facebook has had several high-profile privacy lapses in the past couple of years. The FTC has been looking into the Cambridge Analytica scandal since last March. The data mining firm accessed the data of some 87 million Facebook users without their consent.
At issue is whether Facebook is in violation of a 2011 agreement with the FTC promising to protect user privacy. Facebook and the FTC declined to comment.

So, criminal justice reform has been in the forefront of the news lately, and I’d like to throw in my 2¢…Without divulging too much information regarding my qualifications on the topic, I’d like to discuss recidivism, and life-long labels that I believe contribute to it.
Regarding the Scarlet Letter of the justice system, the Felon, this is a life-long label that simply tells the law breaker, “You will never, in your entire life, be anything other than a Felon.”. Sure, they can have other successes in life…raising a close-knit family, successfully entering a (limited) workforce, positively contributing to the betterment of their community…otherwise proving their rehabilitated status. They have a social security number, pay their taxes, and perhaps…help their landlady carry out her garbage. However, they can feel it when they look out their window or when they turn on their television. They can feel it when they go to work…when they go to church…when they pay their taxes…like a splinter in their mind. ( ; - j )
It’s no secret that if you repeat something over and over again, you’ll start to believe it…the same holds true in this scenario. If you continually remind someone that they are a Felon, with no hope of redemption, with no hope of ever being anything other than a second-class citizen, inalienable rights stripped away for the remainder of your life…well, they’ll eventually start to see themselves as nothing more than that. This form of punishment is often worse than incarceration…because it removes ALL hope of ever escaping its bonds. That, in itself, is cruel.
Of course, there are those of you out there that will disagree, have never had momentary lapses in judgement, and will proclaim, “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime!”. You’re absolutely correct, and being labeled a Felon should act as a deterrent…but NO ONE can do the time. Even after death, your legacy of all of your post-conviction successes will forever be tarnished and shadowed by this Scarlet Letter. The 19 year old naive “kid”, that was convicted of a “non-violent” financial crime of passing a bad check because he hadn’t learned how to manage his money yet, will have received a “life-sentence”. It’s a shame and a miscarriage of justice.
All crimes are punishable by a maximum sentence, yet seeing the severity, level of involvement, and personal responsibility the offender has taken regarding the admission of their guilt (among other criteria), judges more times than not, reduce the sentencing to less than this, however, the branded “F” this person receives (if in Federal court) WILL NOT, and CAN NOT be removed…EVER. Well, this is the Land of Opportunity, and we, as Americans, believe in second chances and forgiveness. I would propose some criminal justice reform, whereas first-time, non-violent felony convictions (excluding Sedition and Treason) would impose whatever sentencing that the judge deems appropriate, however the Felon label will be imposed only for the duration of the Maximum Sentence outlined in the federal sentencing guidelines. For example, if you are a first-time convict of a non-violent offense, which carries a Maximum Sentence of 10 years, but the judge imposes a sentence of no time served, 3 years probation, and a fine (based off of your cooperation, remorse, etc…), you will remain a Felon for 10 years, provided you have no other felony convictions during that time. This would apply at both the State and Federal level.
By giving non-repeat, non-violent Felons some hope for their futures…something to look forward to, some incentive to “keep their nose clean” and the opportunity to better themselves…I believe this will drastically reduce the amount of recidivism in this country. Everyone needs a wakeup call at least once in their life. Let us help wake them up.Y

The work of the OSCE spans the globe, encompassing three continents – North America, Europe and Asia – and more than a billion people.
Giving a private organization the ability to control the right to travel of nearly 8 billion people is horrifying.
The white paper warns that the OSCE and the International Air Transport Association are working together to track every airline passenger.
Thanks to the UN and its member states, the OSCE has been collecting close to 50% of airline passengers’ personal information since 2017.

What is the 25th Amendment?
The 25th Amendment outlines steps to fill the presidency or vice presidency in the event that either official is unable to "discharge the powers and duties" of their office, whether that means the president was removed from office, died or resigned the position. Congress proposed the amendment in the aftermath of President John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1963. It was officially adopted in 1967.
When can it be used?
Politicians can invoke the amendment if they follow procedures outlined in the amendment's four sections. Those sections include:
Section 1: If the president is removed from office, dies or resigns, the vice president assumes the Oval Office.
Section 2: If there is a vacancy in the office of the vice president, the president nominates a person to fill the role. The vice president takes office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both houses of Congress.
Section 3: The president can temporarily transfer all of his presidential duties and powers to the vice president until he declares that he can once again discharge them.
Section 4: The vice president and the Cabinet can oust a president they determine is unfit. The vice president and a majority of the president's Cabinet members must agree the president can no longer perform his duties before they notify Congress. At that point, the vice president becomes president until the president counters, in writing, that he is fit to lead. The vice president and the president's Cabinet can challenge the president's assertion within four days, and Congress then has 21 days to decide who is right.
Has it been used before?
Yes – parts of it, anyway. The procedures were used during the Watergate scandal when Gerald Ford replaced Spiro Agnew as vice president and then replaced Richard Nixon as president, in line with the first and second sections. In another case, former President George W. Bush invoked the third section of the amendment when he underwent routine colonoscopy procedures, passing his presidential powers to then-Vice President Dick Cheney.
A president has never been ousted under Section 4. Some have argued that the amendment should have been invoked after an assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan in 1981 to allow the president more time to recover from his gunshot injuries. But the only other time officials are reported to have considered its use was after Howard Baker Jr. replaced Donald Regan as Reagan’s chief of staff and concerns abounded about the mental fitness of the president, who would later disclose a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Smollett released a statement Thursday evening, saying, "Today Jussie did answer routine followup questions for Chicago Police Department and continues to cooperate."
Smollett's representatives said he is not being written off "Empire."
Twentieth Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment released a statement saying, "The idea that Jussie Smollett has been, or would be, written off of EMPIRE is patently ridiculous. He remains a core player on this very successful series and we continue to stand behind him."
A source briefed on the Smollett investigation confirmed to ABC News that Chicago police are questioning the two persons of interest – one of whom has appeared on "Empire."
The law enforcement official also told ABC News that the homes of the persons of interest were raided Wednesday night. Police removed shoes, electronic devices and other items they believe could help them determine if the two people played any role in the assault.

The east side of town is filled with felons that have NO HOPE and therefore could not care less if they commit another crime. Some do make it out of here due to a great amount of sports talent in this area but most are caught in a vicious cycle. In turn, good people of all races have left this area, especially the city, in droves. It is now almost necessary to send your children to a private school to avoid the issues these kids bring to school with them. It’s really really sad.
