Canada’s GDP Grew by 2.6 Percent in Third Quarter of 2025: StatCan

Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.6 percent on an annualized basis in the third quarter of 2025 due to a decline in imports and a rise in exports, after falling by 1.8 percent in the second quarter.
The growth in GDP during the third quarter far surpassed Statistic Canada’s projection of 0.4 percent annualized growth, the Bank of Canada and a poll of economists’ projection of 0.5 percent annualized growth, and Deloitte Canada’s expectation of 1.2 percent growth.
StatCan said in its Nov. 28 report that the rise in GDP was primarily caused by a “strengthening trade balance,” as as imports dropped and exports edged up. Canada experienced its largest decline in imports since 2022 with imports of goods and services falling by 2.2 percent in the third quarter. Imports of goods like unwrought gold, silver, platinum, as well as industrial machinery, equipment, and parts fell in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, exports increased by 0.2 percent in the third quarter, after a significant drop of 7 percent in the second quarter as U.S. tariffs on Canadian products took effect. The increase in the third quarter was driven by higher exports of crude oil and bitumen, as well as commercial services, StatCan said.
A 2.9 percent growth in government capital spending also fuelled GDP growth in the third quarter, the agency said, as the government increased spending on “weapon systems” by 82 percent from the previous quarter. Governments also spent more on non-residential structures, such as hospitals.
The housing market also experienced increased resale activity due to a 9.1 percent rise in ownership transfer costs after declining 16.2 percent in the first quarter. Residential resale activity grew in all provinces in the third quarter, except for Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, and Manitoba, StatCan said. Continue…

Sexual extortion of children for profit is on the rise, Canada’s financial intelligence agency says, and a large portion of such activities are tied to organized crime.
This form of online coercion consists of threats to share sexual images or videos of a victim unless they provide the offenders with money or additional pictures, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) says in a newly published operational alert.
The federal agency released the alert this week as part of its efforts to combat the online sexual exploitation of children.
“Online child sexual exploitation is a disturbing global crime targeting children that continues to rise year after year, not only in the number of confirmed reports showing child sexual abuse images, but also in the severity of the images and videos,” Fintrac said in a press release.
“The motivation for sexually exploiting children varies, and while most perpetrators commit child sexual exploitation for sexual gratification and not financial gain, there has been an increase in financially motivated offending, including sexual extortion cases in recent years.”
FINTRAC described the 11-page report as a way to help businesses identify and report financial transactions associated with such crimes and is urging banks and businesses to be on the lookout for the patterns identified in the report that can point to extortion or other types of child sexual exploitation. The Ontario government has introduced draft legislation that aims to restrict invasive medical research on dogs and cats.
It is the first proposed law of its kind in Canada, triggered by an Investigative Journalism Bureau investigation in August that detailed cardiac research on dogs inside St. Joseph’s Hospital in London. The research involved inducing hours-long heart attacks in puppies.
If passed, the proposed legislation would restrict the practice of invasive experimentation on dogs and cats, except for specified purposes such as veterinary research. The bill also prohibits breeding cats or dogs in Ontario for research purposes. Continue…

Audrey Yun’s latest win in Victoria’s women’s powerlifting competition came days before the World’s Strongest Woman title was stripped from a male-born athlete after officials learned the competitor wasn’t female.
Audrey Yun, a biological male who identifies as a woman, has done it again. This time taking 1st place in a women’s powerlifting competition during the Victoria Barbell Open which took place on November 8–9.
Rankings for the entire meet show that Yun not only took the first-place podium in the women’s category, but lifted such significant weight that Yun’s scores ranked higher than every other athlete, male or female, across more than 100 competitors in their respective divisions.
According to the event website, the first-place prize included a $250 cash payout along with the glory of the podium and a gold medal.
And once again, the female competitors didn’t stand a chance.
According to HeCheated.org, a site that has tracked wins of over 5,000 males dominating women’s sports, Yun has taken at least four other first-place medals and two second-place finishes in British Columbia since 2023, including at the B.C. This comes after 34-year-old Elizabeth Kinney, a mother of four and an aspiring nurse, was assaulted in the UK and sent to the hospital, but because she referred to her attacker as a “fagg*t” in private text messages, Kinney was reported to police and convicted of a hate crime! Kinney pled guilty to “causing to be sent by public communication network an offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing messages,” the Daily Mail reported earlier this month.
“The Crown place this offence in the highest category of its type due to the effect related to sexual orientation and the greater harm because it had moderate impact,” prosecutors argued. Kinney’s lawyer said she was simply “unloading a lot off her chest” after being badly injured and hospitalized” and that the statements “were not being used against a person’s sexuality.”
Still, she was sentenced on enhanced or “uplifted” charges with a 12-month community order, 72 hours of unpaid work, and ten “rehabilitation activity days,” as well as a fine because of the “homophobic content,” the Justice of the Peace said. Continue…

Eleven rare blue macaws, known scientifically as Cyanopsitta spixii and commonly as ararinhas-azuis, have been infected with circovirus at a breeding center in Curaçá, Bahia, Brazil.
The facility, operated by the Brazilian company BlueSky in partnership with the German Association for the Conservation of Threatened Parrots (ACTP), is part of efforts to reintroduce this species, which has been considered extinct in the wild since 2000 due to habitat loss and illegal wildlife trade.
The blue macaw population worldwide is estimated at around 200, all in captivity.
The species has been considered extinct in the wild since 2000, when the last wild animal monitored by researchers disappeared.
In 2020, 52 birds were repatriated from Europe to Brazil, and a group was released into a protected area in Curaçá in 2022.

Representatives of European Union member states reached an agreement on Wednesday in the Council of the EU to move forward with the controversial “Chat Control” child sexual abuse regulation, which paves the way for new rules targeting abusive child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on messaging apps and other online services.
“Every year, millions of files are shared that depict the sexual abuse of children… This is completely unacceptable. Therefore, I’m glad that the member states have finally agreed on a way forward that includes a number of obligations for providers of communication services,” said Danish Minister for Justice, Peter Hummelgaard.
The deal, which follows years of division and deadlock among member states and privacy groups, allows the legislative file to move into final talks with the European Parliament on when and how platforms can be required to scan user content for suspected child sexual abuse and grooming.
The existing CSAM framework is set to expire on April 3, 2026, and is on track to be replaced by the new legislation, pending detailed negotiations with European Parliament lawmakers. Continue…

The box also contained various newspaper clippings about a Canadian Second World War squadron that played a key role in the collection of photographic intelligence for the D-Day invasion and offered tactical reconnaissance for the British Army in Northwest Europe following the invasion.
The store handed over the box of historical memorabilia to the nonprofit genealogy organization Alberta Family Histories Society, which has been researching each item and anyone who might be connected to the contents of the box.

Fifty-seven percent of voters expressed opposition in a non-binding Oct. 20 plebiscite to a nuclear power station with two to four reactors proposed by Energy Alberta due to environmental concerns. A similar proportion of voters said they wanted more information before making a decision on whether to support the proposal.
Pat McNamara who heads the Northern Action Alliance (NAA), which opposes the proposed nuclear power plant, said a similar proposal 15 years ago by Bruce Power was rejected and opposition is no different this time.
“The community made it clear the last time that they didn’t want the reactors here,” McNamara told The Epoch Times. “People moved here for the quality of life and wildlife. That will be gone. People want to protect the river. If Alberta needs more power, use natural gas; we have lots of it.”
Energy Alberta CEO and president Scott Henuset said the proposed nuclear facility could power 4.8 million homes. He said although the company recognizes the hesitation expressed by some residents, the project is ultimately a win-win for Alberta and the local community.
“We understand that people have questions and concerns about nuclear energy in general and our project specifically – it is natural and expected at this early phase of a project of this scope and size,” Henuset wrote in an email to The Epoch Times. Continue…

The FDA under the Trump administration has found that at least 10 children died because they took the COVID-19 vaccine. The findings were released in a 3,000-word memo written by Dr. Vinay Prasad, who is the director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.
The memo stated that “no fewer than 10” of 96 child deaths reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System were a direct result of the children taking the COVID-19 vaccine. The memo was sent out internally on Friday.
"I am writing to report that OBPV career staff have found that at least 10 children have died after and because of receiving COVID-19 vaccination," Prasad said in the memo.
He also pointed to myocarditis as one of the significant side effects of the vaccine. "Unlike the COVID virus, which has a steep age gradient being at least 1000 times more likely to kill an 80 year old than an 8 year old myocarditis appeared to have the opposite pattern. Young, healthy boys and men those least likely to experience bad covid outcomes bore the greatest risk," he added.
Prasad described how he felt that "the FDA and CDC abdicated their duty to the American people" because the impact of the vaccines on young boys was not addressed as thoroughly. He added that after a number of deaths were reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting (VAERS) system, and after a review of the deaths found that on a scale of causality ranging from "certain to unlikely," there were 10 deaths that were related to the vaccine. At a moment many European and NATO leaders are pushing back against Trump's peace plan for the Ukraine war, given it offers to cede large parts of the Donbass and Crimea to Russia, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is in Moscow on a warm and cordial visit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The focus of their discussions centered on continuing supplies of Russian oil and gas, as well as efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Such meetings have been rare examples of an EU head of state flying to Moscow where's he's given a warm and very friendly welcome, despite the still raging war in Ukraine.
Orbán emphasized to Putin that Hungary accepts and is comfortable with the fact that Hungary’s energy security has long depended on Russian fuel. He said Budapest places significant value on the consistency and reliability of Russian deliveries. Continue…

Ukrainian immigrants risk losing their housing in Scotland as the government considers scrapping monthly “thank‑you” payments to hosts, the Daily Mail has reported. One Scottish host said they received a council letter asking for views on the payments ending.
More than 4.3 million Ukrainians have received temporary protection in the EU since 2022, including around 28,000 in Scotland. Across Europe, support for hosting Ukrainians has waned. In October, the European Commission told Kiev that the temporary protection scheme would not extend beyond March 2027, and several EU states have already cut assistance.
