In 2025, multiple reports indicate that over 7,000 Christians were killed in the first 220 days, an average of about 32 to 35 deaths per day. Federal authorities are investigating the discovery of more than 300 piles of cremated human remains dumped in the Nevada desert near the small town of Searchlight, about an hour south of Las Vegas.
The remains were first discovered in late July by a local man exploring the area, who found hundreds of small piles scattered across the desert floor, each believed to represent the ashes of an individual.
Officials later confirmed the material was human cremains, the pulverized bone that remains after cremation.
According to local media, workers from Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries stepped in this week to recover the remains.
Workers collected around 315 piles over the course of the operation, placing each one into its own bag and transferring them to individual urns.

As a record number of new solar panels are being installed every year, the old grid system is struggling to keep up.
Solar generation capacity in the European Union continues to increase and reached an estimated 338 GW by 2024, according to SolarPower Europe.
To curb its dependence on Russian energy and accelerate its green transition, the EU set a goal in 2022 to install at least 700 gigawatts of solar power by 2030, enough to supply electricity to hundreds of millions of homes.
But the rapid expansion has exposed cracks in Europe’s energy system, threatening to slow the transition unless grids catch up.
Europe’s power grids faced a surge in voltage problems last year, with 8,645 over-voltage incidents reported in 2024—nearly 10 times more than in 2023, according to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

Canadian attorneys argue for lighter sentence for migrant who kidnapped 9-year-old so he can avoid deportation

A 37-year-old migrant in Ontario, who pleaded guilty to abducting a nine-year-old boy in 2023, is asking a judge for a reduced sentence in hopes of avoiding deportation.
Manoj Govindbalunikam, who has had permanent residency in Canada since 2013 appeared in a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom this week for his sentencing hearing after pleading guilty in May to one count of abducting a person under the age of 14. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
During the hearing, defense attorney Jessica Belisle and assistant Crown attorney Adrianna Mucciarelli made submissions before Ontario Court Justice Michael Varpio. The hearing included two written victim impact statements, one from the victim’s mother and another from the child, prepared with help from his aunt.
Tensions rose when Judge Varpio called for a recess to review the statements privately, prompting an objection from the boy’s mother, who insisted the statements should be read aloud first.
"It should be read in court, not him reading it before. I'm sorry, I don't approve of that," the mother said, according to Orillia Matters.
"I understand this is a very emotionally charged environment, but justice will be done in as calm and dispassionate fashion as possible," the judge replied.
Following the recess, Mucciarelli made submissions supporting the Crown’s recommendation for a two-year jail term with 18 months of probation. Belisle, meanwhile, requested a conditional discharge with three years of probation. She alternatively suggested that if her client receives jail time that he is sentenced to no more than six months minus one day. She argued that a longer sentence would trigger Govindbalunikam’s automatic deportation, as he is a permanent resident who has lived in Canada since 2013.
“I suggest we should take that into consideration,” argued Belisle.
Belisle also emphasized that while the abduction was a serious crime, the child was not physically harmed. She said her client has already spent two days in custody and has complied with 805 days of bail conditions.
Judge Varpio is set to deliver his decision on November 19, when he will also hear additional submissions from counsel. Following the hearing, the parents expressed frustration, with the father yelling “You’re a piece of sh*t” in the hallway.

But the two nations don’t necessarily agree on the role of such measures, EPA chief Lee Zeldin suggested during a meeting of G7 environment and energy ministers in Toronto.
Climate scientists and data indicate that a warming planet has made forest fires wilder and bigger, something even the U.S. space agency NASA confirms. But Zeldin is an opponent of what he has called the “religion of climate change,” and proposed scrapping his agency’s ability to regulate fossil fuels, the foundation of U.S. efforts to combat climate change.
Facing pressure from politicians in states affected by drifting smoke, there has been “a lot of engagement” during the last three months with Environment Canada about the wildfires that ravaged huge tracts of forest here, said Zeldin.
“The impacts on the northern United States led to a lot of advocacy and questions coming from United States governors and congressional delegations and others,” he told a news conference during the G7 gathering.
“What Canada experienced, just like what California experienced last January highlights the need to lean into forest management.”

Premier David Eby’s NDP government has again sparked controversy regarding land rights in British Columbia, further eroding property rights in the province.
Eby’s caucus, despite publicly claiming to defend British Columbians in the Cowichan Tribes v. Canada “land-grab” case, unanimously voted last week to defeat a bill that would have reinforced the very rights they purport to protect.
The OneBC Party and B.C. Conservatives introduced the Property Rights Protection Act, a private member's bill, to reinforce property rights for all British Columbians, opposing the NDP's race-based politics.
“Every homeowner, every farmer, every business owner in this province deserves to know that their land title is secure,” Brodie said when introducing the bill. “This government has tied our laws to the United Nations instead of standing up for British Columbians.”

Federal prosecutors have announced the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, most of them sworn law enforcement officers, in the Mississippi Delta region for allegedly conspiring with Mexican drug cartels to smuggle narcotics into the United States.
U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner for the Northern District of Mississippi made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday.
“We’re here today to talk about some incredibly serious allegations that mark a monumental betrayal of public trust, to announce the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, most of them law enforcement officers in the Mississippi Delta region. The indictments generally allege the taking of bribes to attempt to aid and abet drug trafficking, as well as associated crimes,” said Joyner.
The announcement detailed the results of a years-long federal investigation and sting operation in the Mississippi Delta region, resulting in the indictment and arrest of 20 individuals, including 14 current or former law enforcement officers and six co-conspirators.

When Donald Trump won the U.S. presidency for the first time, visceral anger over immigration was central to his campaign. Perhaps his success with so many voters should not have surprised. By 2016, the share of the American population born outside the country was 13.5 percent, the highest level in more than a century. Maybe a backlash was inevitable.
In Canada, however, it has been well over a century since immigrants were that low a share of the population. In 2016, immigrants were 22 percent of Canadians and rising. That was higher than the U.S. at any time since the Civil War. Continue…

During a meeting with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte last month, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that London was “accelerating our UK program to provide Ukraine with more than 5,000 lightweight missiles” in a bid to put “military pressure” on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Also in October, Kiev claimed to have used Storm Shadow missiles, among other weapons, to strike an industrial facility deep inside Russia. The attack followed Zelensky’s earlier threat, made in late August, to launch “new deep strikes” against the neighboring country.

The federal government has revealed that 1,944 inmates in Canadian federal prisons are not citizens, including 244 convicted of murder, according to documents tabled in Parliament
The figures were disclosed in response to a written question from Conservative MP Blaine Calkins (Ponoka — Didsbury), who asked Correctional Service Canada (CSC) to detail the number of foreign nationals in custody, their crimes, and the costs associated with their incarceration.
CSC’s answer confirms the numbers but fails to include a full accounting of costs or deportation outcomes, leaving taxpayers with little transparency on how much they are paying to jail convicted foreign nationals or what happens to them after their sentences end.
The response to Order Paper Question Q-301 lists nearly 2,000 non-citizen offenders currently serving time in Canada’s federal prisons. Of those, 244 have been convicted of murder, representing more than one in 10 foreign national inmates.
The figure underscores the seriousness of crimes committed by non-citizen offenders being held in Canada, many of whom are serving long or life sentences for violent or sexual offences.
Calkins’ inquiry also sought details on the annual and per-inmate cost of housing non-citizen offenders. The government did not provide that information. However, estimates from the Parliamentary Budget Officer peg the average annual cost of incarcerating a federal inmate at about $151,000, suggesting taxpayers may be spending hundreds of millions of dollars each year to keep foreign nationals behind bars.
Canada’s International Transfer of Offenders Act technically allows Ottawa to send convicted foreign nationals back to their home countries to serve their sentences. But such transfers require approval from both governments. Yet, in reality, they rarely happen.
That means even the worst offenders, including convicted murderers, often serve their entire sentences in Canada before the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) begins the deportation process, one that can drag on for years.
The Office of the Auditor General of Canada found in a 2020 audit that CBSA had a massive backlog of deportation files and “removed few of the foreign nationals who were subject to enforceable removal orders.” At the time, there were roughly 50,000 enforceable removal orders still in the system, many of which had been outstanding for years and in thousands of cases, the CBSA had simply lost track of the individuals.
A subsequent CBSA internal briefing confirmed that as of late 2020, out of approximately 217,000 individuals in its removals inventory, only 4,175 were considered “working” cases — meaning they were actively being processed for removal.
The rest were stalled by legal appeals, bureaucratic delays, or poor coordination between Correctional Service Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and CBSA.
In practice, that means even dangerous foreign offenders are often released into Canadian communities on supervision conditions while their deportation paperwork lingers — sometimes for years.

A dual citizen of Canada and the US appeared in a New York federal court on Friday after being extradited from Canada to face charges stemming from a human smuggling operation that led to the deaths of a family of four in the St. Lawrence River.
Stephanie Square, 52, of the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian Reservation in Canada, was indicted in June 2024 by a federal grand jury in the Northern District of New York. She faces charges of conspiring to engage in human smuggling, four counts of smuggling for profit, and four counts of smuggling resulting in death.
Square was arrested in Canada in August 2024 at the request of US authorities. Her extradition marks a major development in a cross-border case that required close coordination between American and Canadian law enforcement agencies.
According to court documents, Square allegedly led a human smuggling organization that transported migrants across the US-Canada border through the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian reservation.
In late March 2023, investigators say a Canadian smuggler contacted Square to move a Romanian family of four, two adults and two small children, across the St. Lawrence River into the United States.
Despite warnings of dangerous weather, Square allegedly directed her associates to proceed with the operation.
On the night of March 29, 2023, the family was taken to the home of co-conspirator Timothy Oakes on Cornwall Island, a well-known hub for smuggling activity. Surveillance footage later captured Oakes towing a small blue boat toward a public launch.
Within hours, residents reported hearing cries for help on the river amid rough conditions. Authorities launched a search, eventually recovering the bodies of the entire family and Oakes’ boat. The boat’s captain, Case Oakes, was found months later. Continue…

Millions of dollars’ worth of Canadian technology has been funnelled through a network of Hong Kong–based shell companies to Russia’s military, evading sanctions, according to a new report by two human rights organizations.
Hong Kong has become the world’s largest transshipment hub for high-priority Western technology feeding Moscow and other hostile governments, with Canadian technology reaching Russia’s war machine against Ukraine via supply chains running through the Beijing-ruled city, says an Oct. 28 report by the Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong (CFHK) Foundation and the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights.
The report, titled “Backdoor to the Battlefield: How Hong Kong Funnels Canadian Technology into Russia’s War Machine,” is the result of an investigation that analyzed battlefield forensics, Hong Kong public records, and three years of Russian customs data.
“Canadian technology has repeatedly surfaced in Russian weapons recovered on the Ukrainian battlefield, with supply chains running through Hong Kong,” reads the report. “Our analysis found that these battlefield components were part of much larger flows of Canadian goods to Russia.” Continue…

Montrealers have chosen former Liberal Tourism Minister Soraya Martinez Ferrada as their new mayor in a vote that toppled the city’s more left-leaning government after eight years in power.
Martinez Ferrada, a former Chilean refugee and leader of the Ensemble Montréal, is replacing outgoing Mayor Valérie Plante, who announced last year she would not pursue a third term at the helm of Projet Montréal.
Ferrada defeated Plante’s successor as leader of Projet Montréa, Luc Rabouin, by more than 30,000 votes in the Nov. 2 election. Rabouin has since announced his plans to resign as leader of the progressive party.
