Carney said negotiations with the United States were progressing until Ontario’s anti-tariff ad aired.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says Prime Minister Mark Carney and his chief of staff saw Ontario’s anti-tariff advertisement featuring the late U.S. President Ronald Reagan before it was released.

“He saw the ad before I put it out, so did his chief of staff. They both saw it, and we moved forward on it,” Ford told reporters at Queen’s Park on Oct. 27.

Ford said in the Ontario legislature on Oct. 27 that his ad campaign was “the best ad that ever ran.” Ford also said he was confident that U.S. President Donald Trump would not be following through on his threat to increase tariffs on Canada by 10 percent. Trump pledged the tariff hike on Oct. 25 in response to the ad.

The Epoch Times contacted the Prime Minister’s Office for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.

Carney said negotiations with the United States were progressing until Ontario’s anti-tariff ad aired.

An Indian illegal alien was charged after stabbing two minor teens and slapping a woman aboard a Lufthansa flight from Chicago to Germany on Saturday.

According to the Justice Department, Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, 28, stabbed two 17-year-old male passengers with a metal fork.

One victim was stabbed in the clavicle and the other was stabbed in the back of the head after meal service.

Usiripalli also slapped a female passenger before the flight was diverted to Logan Airport in Boston.

He was immediately taken into custody and charged.

Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli was charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm while traveling on an aircraft, according to federal prosecutors.

Usiripalli was in the US on a student visa but currently does not have lawful status in the Unites States according to the DOJ.

An aircraft bound for Maasai Mara went down shortly after takeoff, killing all on board

Twelve people have been killed after a light aircraft carrying tourists to Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve crashed early on Tuesday, local authorities have reported.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) identified the aircraft being operated by Mombasa Air Safari. It departed from Diani Airstrip around 8 a.m. and was expected to arrive at Kichwa Tembo in the Maasai Mara an hour later. The plane went down in a remote forested area roughly 40km from Diani.

The Maasai Mara, one of the world’s most renowned safari destinations and a highlight during the annual wildebeest migration, is accessible by multiple daily flights operated by small aircraft linking Nairobi and, seasonally, Kenyan coastal resorts such as Diani and Mombasa.

“The aircraft had 12 persons on board. Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident and its impact,” the KCAA said in a statement on X.

Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government is moving to scrap Ontario’s fixed election dates and make permanent taxpayer funding for political parties — while increasing regulation of third-party political spending.

Attorney General Doug Downey announced the sweeping reforms Monday under what the government calls a plan to “strengthen public confidence” in provincial elections.

The changes would repeal the fixed election calendar introduced by former Liberal premier Dalton McGuinty and return to the traditional system in which the premier can call an election at any time within a five-year term.

“The proposed reforms will return Ontario to an electoral process that served our province well for nearly a century and a half,” Downey said, taking a swipe at what he called “American-style fixed election dates.”

The Liberal government says its upcoming Nov. 4 budget will double funding for a union training program and create a tax credit for personal support workers worth up to $1,100 per year.

The budget will boost union-based apprenticeship training in Red Seal trades by expanding the Union Training and Innovation Program, the Department of Finance said in an Oct. 27 news release. This includes doubling the program’s funding to $75 million over three years, and doubling the number of apprentices trained each year from 6,000 to 12,500.

“We are building major infrastructure projects and millions of new homes, and that means that we'll need more skilled workers to get the jobs done. Unions do a phenomenal job of training people,” Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu said at an Oct. 27 press conference in Ottawa announcing four new measures, which she called “generational investments,” included in the upcoming federal budget.

The upcoming budget will also introduce a temporary refundable tax credit for personal support workers (PSWs) equal to 5 percent of eligible earnings up to $1,100 per year. The credit will be available in provinces and territories not already covered by a bilateral agreement with the federal government to increase wages for PSWs, the department said.

Secretary of State for Labour John Zerucelli, who also announced the four measures at a separate press conference in Etobicoke, Ont., on Oct. 27, noted that PSWs remain “among the lowest paid workers in health care.” He also noted the first two measures fulfill campaign promises made by the Liberal Party earlier this year.

Additionally, the budget will amend the Canada Labour Code to restrict the use of non-compete agreements in employment contracts for federally regulated sectors. Canadian authorities have launched a trade investigation to determine whether Chinese producers are dumping truck bodies in Canada, following a complaint filed by a Canadian company.

A “truck body” is the main load-bearing cargo box section of a truck that sits on the chassis, which serves as a base. These include bodies designed for various purposes such as dry freight, refrigeration, parcel and food delivery, or service work.

The investigation, announced Oct. 24 by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), comes as a result of a formal complaint filed by trucking manufacturers Morgan Canada Corporation and Morgan Transit Corporation, located in Bolton, Ont., and Laval, Que., respectively. The complainants comprise a majority of Canada’s truck body production, which comes in at an annual total of roughly $327 million.

The two complainants allege they have suffered “material injury” as a result of the increased volume of Chinese truck bodies and price undercutting, the CBSA said in a press release. They said they have also suffered “price depression, decreased bookings and lost sales, as well as adverse impacts on production, capacity utilization, market share, employment and financial performance.”

Trade dumping refers to when companies from one country are able to export products at below-market value, often because of government subsidization of industries, overproduction, lower production costs, cheaper materials and fewer regulations.

Joseph Daniel Schmidt, 31, was once stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington as part of the 109th Military Intelligence Battalion.

He held Top Secret clearance and had access to defense data so sensitive it could compromise national security if exposed.

But according to the Department of Justice, after leaving the Army in 2020, Schmidt reached out directly to the Chinese Consulate in Turkey and later emailed Chinese security services offering to sell national defense information.

In March 2020, Schmidt traveled to Hong Kong, then under Beijing’s tightening grip, and drafted detailed documents outlining “high-level secrets” he was willing to hand over to the Chinese government.

Among the items he kept was a classified access device capable of connecting to secure U.S. military computer systems. Prosecutors said Schmidt offered it to Chinese intelligence agents to “assist them” in breaching American networks.

Schmidt stayed overseas for several years, living mostly in Hong Kong under Chinese control, until October 2023, when he boarded a flight to San Francisco and was promptly arrested upon arrival at the airport.

Despite the clear gravity of the crime — attempting to deliver national defense information to a foreign adversary — Judge John C. Coughenour sentenced him to only four years in prison and three years of supervised release, far below the maximum 20-year penalty for the two espionage-related counts.

According to the DOJ, “Attempt to deliver national defense information and retention of national defense information are both punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.”

“The court weighed the seriousness of Schmidt’s crime and his mental health at the time,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News, confirming that Coughenour viewed his mental condition as a mitigating factor.

Schmidt’s so-called “mental episode” reportedly led to his separation from the Army, and the DOJ says no classified information ultimately reached China.

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the Justice Department to submit all evidence of US Attorney Lindsey Halligan’s involvement in the Comey and Letitia James criminal cases.

Corrupt New York Attorney General Letitia James was arraigned in court in Norfolk, Virginia, last Friday morning.

Letitia James’ federal criminal case was assigned to US District Judge Jamar Walker, a Biden appointee.

On Friday Letitia James filed a motion to dismiss the federal indictment arguing that US Attorney Lindsey Halligan’s appointment as interim US Attorney is in violation of the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution.

“Attorney General Letitia A. James, by and through undersigned counsel, pursuant to Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 12(b) moves this Court to dismiss the Government’s indictment because purported interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan had no authority to bring the charges in this case. As explained further below, Ms. Halligan’s purported appointment as interim U.S. Attorney was invalid under 28 U.S.C § 546 and in violation of the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution,” James’s attorney argued in a motion reviewed by The Gateway Pundit.

James also asked Judge Jamar Walker to consolidate her motion challenging the appointment of Halligan with James Comey’s motion in a separate case.

Recall that fired FBI Director James Comey also filed a motion to disqualify Lindsey Halligan after he was indicted by a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Last Tuesday, the Chief Judge of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Comey’s motion challenging Halligan to be transferred to Judge Cameron McGowan Currie, a Clinton appointee.

On Friday, Judge Jamar Walker granted Letitia James’ request to consolidate her motion with Comey’s similar motion so the Clinton judge can decide whether Lindsey Halligan will be disqualified in both cases.

In its statement, the central bank noted the Canadian economy contracted 1.6% in the second quarter amid heightened uncertainty, and said the trade dispute with the US is likely to result in weak growth in the second half of the year, but there will be some help from rising consumer and government spending and as exports and business investment begin to recover.
