US Senate Republicans invoked the nuclear option on Thursday to speed up the confirmation of President Donald Trump’s nominees.

The 53-45 vote came after nearly five hours of bipartisan talks. Senate Democrats slow-walked President Trump’s nominees for over six months now despite being the minority party in the Senate chamber.

John Thune released a chart in early September that shows civilian nominees confirmed by unanimous consent collapsing from 817 under H.W. Bush to 1,100 under Clinton, then steadily declining, down to 0 in Trump’s second term. Democrats are doing all they can to thwart the will of the people.

Senate Republicans are now on track to confirm four dozen Trump nominees in the next week.

Grace Chong added this, “The nuclear option allows Senate Majority Leader John Thune to group an unlimited number of sub-Cabinet nominees into a single bloc. It’s a dramatic overhaul of the chamber’s rules that comes amid a historic Democratic slow-walking effort.”

It looks like President Trump will finally have his support team in place.

Appeals Court Bats Down Obama Judge, Allows Trump to Defund Planned Parenthood

A federal appeals court on Thursday allowed a provision in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill to defund Planned Parenthood.

In July, a federal judge expanded a preliminary injunction and blocked Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill Provision, barring funding for Planned Parenthood nationwide.

Judge Talwani, an Obama appointee, previously issued a TRO and temporarily blocked the reconciliation bill’s provision barring funding for Planned Parenthood.

A couple of weeks later, the judge granted a preliminary injunction in part extending a block on funding for Planned Parenthood.

In late July, Judge Talwani expanded her injunction nationwide.

The judge’s ruling comes after the US Supreme Court largely restricted lower courts from issuing nationwide injunctions.

The First Circuit Court of Appeals, in a 3-0 decision, lifted Judge Talwani’s injunction against the Big Beautiful Bill’s ban on federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

CBC ‘hate expert’ falsely accuses Charlie Kirk of calling for execution of LGBT people

One day after Charlie Kirk's assassination, a CBC contributor misrepresented his 2024 comments quoting the Bible.

CBC has falsely asserted that conservative activist Charlie Kirk called for LGBT-identifying people to be executed.

During a September 11 livestream, just one day after Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University, CBC hosted “hate expert” Barbara Perry, who falsely claimed that Kirk had advocated for LGBT individuals to be murdered.

Perry, the director of the Center on Hate Bias and Extremism at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, Ontario, accused Kirk of using rhetoric that vilified LGBT individuals, including claiming he described them as “defective and dangerous and should be executed.”

The self-proclaimed “hate expert” drew on 2024 comments from Kirk for her claim. At the time, Kirk had responded to a June post by children’s YouTuber “Miss Rachel,” who quoted a Bible passage about loving one’s neighbor. Miss Rachel alleged that the Bible’s call to love one’s neighbor meant supporting the LGBT lifestyle.

Kirk quickly called her out on his podcast, pointing out that her comments were a misrepresentation of Scripture and taken out of context.

“So you love God, so you must love His law. How do you love somebody? You love them by telling them the truth — not by confirming or affirming their sin,” he explained.

“By the way, Miss Rachel, you might want to crack open that Bible of yours. In a lesser-referenced part of the very same section of Scripture — Leviticus 18 — it says: ‘Thou shall not lay with another man; it is an abomination, punishable by stoning to death.’ Just saying,” he added.

Kirk did not call for modern enforcement of stoning or execution, nor did he label all LGBT people as “defective and dangerous” in recorded statements. Instead, Kirk frequently criticized what he called the “LGBTQ agenda” for promoting “sexual anarchy” and “grooming” youth, often framing it through a Christian conservative lens opposing same-sex “marriage,” transgender ideology, and pro-LGBT education.

CBC’s false representation of Kirk’s stance is only the latest attempt to smear Kirk’s reputation in what appears to be an attempt to justify his murder. Continue…

You’ll never be able to convince me that the location of this event isn’t intentional. To Carleton, to @OttawaPolice, to @csiscanada, and to the @rcmpgrcpolice, you need to shut this down, and frankly, you need to do a hell of a lot more to stop these events from taking place in Canada.

Allowing these abhorrent individuals into the country where they get to speak to our children isn’t a sign of tolerance – it’s a sign that many, many people would rather look the other way while we sleepwalk our way to destruction. Enough is enough.

Ottawa’s chief data officer says he thinks the introduction of artificial intelligence to federal government operations will lead to “some” job cuts in the public service.

In a recent interview with The Canadian Press, Stephen Burt said he thinks the impacts are going to vary widely and will be job-specific, with different outcomes in different areas.

While he wouldn’t identify the risk of job losses in specific areas of government, Burt said the goal will be to ensure employees receive opportunities to retrain and change jobs.

“I think there will be some, but I couldn’t tell you specifically right now what the magnitude of that is going to be or where it’s going to be felt most acutely,” Burt said when asked about job losses.

Prime Minister Mark Carney campaigned in the spring federal election on using AI to make the public service more efficient. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne has asked his colleagues to identify cuts to program spending of 15 percent over the next three years.

Canada’s ministers of finance and procurement have given officials in charge of most federal contracting 45 days to come up with a plan to review all existing and planned federal contracts to find ways to save money.

The directive made by Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne and Public Works and Procurement Minister Joël Lightbound is the latest cost-savings directive from the federal cabinet as Prime Minister Mark Carney looks to cut government operating spending by 15 percent over the next three years.

It came in a letter sent on Thursday to the deputy minister of public services and procurement, as well as the chief information officer and senior officials at the Treasury Board and Shared Services Canada.

Lightbound and Champagne say the plan should include a process for assessing existing and planned contracts to find savings.

It is to include a study of international best practices in contracting, and a plan to prioritize commercially available solutions by Canadian vendors.

York Regional Police have arrested a man after shots were fired at a Vaughan, Ont., home this week and say the incident may be connected to a series of other shootings in the same neighbourhood over the weekend.

Police say a 23-year-old man from Innisfil has been charged after multiple shots were fired early Sept. 10 at a home in Vaughan, Ont., a city just north of Toronto. It was the third shooting in a series of what the police are calling targeted attacks in the neighbourhood since the weekend.

“Investigators are connecting this to two other shootings from the weekend in Vaughan,” Const. Lisa Moskaluk said in a Sept. 10 press conference. “A third incident from the weekend is also being considered. I want to make it clear, the address of today’s incident was the intended target, not the resident.”

Officers responded to a call of a shooting at a house on Lady Angela Lane, near Bathurst Street and Teston Road, at approximately 2 a.m. on Sept. 10.

Moskaluk told reporters patrol cars were already in the area due to a heightened presence in recent days as a result of the weekend shootings.

Officers were able to contain a suspicious vehicle upon arriving at the scene, resulting in a short foot pursuit that led to the arrest of a suspect with the assistance of the canine unit, according to a police press release. The suspect sustained minor injuries. Continue…

The level of debt that Canadians owe in relation to their income rose in the second quarter, as the increase in debt outpaced income growth, new data from Statistics Canada suggests.

The proportion of household credit market debt relative to disposable income increased to 174.9 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis, marking an increase of 1.1 percent, StatCan reported this week.

“In other words, there was $1.75 in credit market debt for every dollar of household disposable income in the second quarter, considerably lower than the record $1.86 in the fourth quarter of 2021,” the agency said.

The household debt service ratio, which is defined as the total required payments of principal and interest on credit market debt relative to disposable income, grew to 14.41 percent during the quarter, up from 14.37 percent.

The findings indicated that household credit market borrowing slowed to a seasonally adjusted $31.6 billion during the quarter, a decline from $34.5 billion in the first three months of 2025.

The total amount of household credit market debt, seasonally adjusted and including consumer credit, mortgage, and non-mortgage loans, saw a 1 percent increase, exceeding $3.1 trillion in the second quarter, with mortgages making up nearly 75 percent of the total. Continue…

Quebec’s government has suspended all 1,200 Lion electric school buses in the province from operation after one caught fire earlier this week, leading to school cancellations and numerous school bus routes being halted.

The fire occurred the morning of Sept. 9 in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood of Montreal, leaving the driver and five children aboard unharmed. Montreal’s fire chief Martin Guilbault said the fire was not caused by the battery in the electric bus.

Investigation into the cause is ongoing by Canada-based Lion Electric. No building damage occurred as a result of the fire, and the company says it’s collaborating with Transport Canada to ensure its fleet is safe to allow a return to service.

The Sept. 9 fire may have been caused by an unknown “defect,” Quebec’s Education Minister Sonia LeBel and Transport Minister Jonaten Julien said in a Sept. 11 statement.

“The preventive inspections of the buses will continue throughout the weekend to ensure school transportation can return to normal as soon as possible,” LeBel and Julien said, adding that “if any repairs or adjustments are needed, alternative arrangements will be offered to parents to get their children to school next week.” Continue…

The University of Toronto (U of T) has placed a political science and religion professor on leave after she made “concerning” comments in a social media post about the assassination of American Conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

In a Sept. 10 X post, U of T professor Ruth Marshall said, “Shooting is honestly too good for so many of you fascist [expletive].” Her X account can no longer be viewed publicly.

U of T says Marshall was placed on leave after the university learned of the post.

“The University took immediate action upon learning of the concerning social media posts of a University of Toronto professor,” a U of T spokesperson told The Epoch Times in a statement on Sept. 12. “The faculty member is now on leave and not on campus.”

The university added that the matter is “being looked into,” and said it will not provide any further comments on the matter.

Paul St-Pierre Plamondon has convened dozens of robust discussions on college campuses and other youth-filled venues across Quebec

Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon admits that the assassination of U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah university campus on Wednesday hit him very close to home.

After all, Plamondon helped launch a group not too dissimilar from Kirk’s Turning Point USA as a young adult in the 2000s.

In 2007, he and two co-founders — now federal Industry Minister Melanie Joly and Stéphanie Raymond-Bougie — launched Génération d’idées: a civic organization dedicated to engaging 20 to 35-year-olds in the political process through healthy debate.

Plamondon convened dozens of robust discussions on college campuses and other youth-filled venues across Quebec during his six years with the group.

Looking back, he worries that the initiative is a relic of a lost era.

“I don’t think we could achieve today the culture of thinking and debating we had at Génération d’idées at the time, because it was a pre-social media period,” Plamondon told National Post on Thursday.

“The impact of social media, and socialization through social media … is it allows people to distort reality to fit their ideology and, afterwards, people who don’t agree become enemies,” said Plamondon.

Plamondon was speaking from Calgary Thursday, where he kicked off a two-day visit to Alberta with a talk at the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy.

He said it was only fitting for him to open his remarks in Calgary with a nod to the bloodshed south of the border.

“It was important for me to mention that what happened to Utah was a stark reminder of how critical it was for me to be able to stand there at the University of Calgary and respectfully engage with a roomful of people who disagreed with me,” said Plamondon.

On the topic of higher education, Plamondon said that the corrosive effect of social media on our discourse goes hand-in-hand with the diminished emphasis on objective truth in certain corners of academia. Continue…

The Canadian government is “urgently” looking for a way to dissolve the not-for-profit status of Samidoun, a Vancouver-based anti-Israel organization that has been designed as a terror group, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly announced on social media on Thursday.

“It is completely unacceptable that any organization listed as a terrorist entity by the Government of Canada continues to exist as a federally registered not-for-profit organization,” wrote Joly. “I have therefore directed government officials to urgently look at any and all options to formally dissolve Samidoun as well as any and all listed terrorist entities in Canada.”

A year ago, Samidoun was designated as a terror group in both Canada and the United States. At the time, Khaled Barakat, whose wife Charlotte Kates is a director of Samidoun, was also designated a terrorist by the United States’ government. What followed from Nahanni Fontaine, a sitting minister in the NDP government, was not empathy, was not leadership, and was not even decency. It was a disgrace.

Her Instagram reshared a post calling Kirk a racist, xenophobic, transphobic, Islamophobic, sexist, white nationalist mouthpiece who made millions inciting hate. She went on to say she extended “absolutely no empathy” to him, only to his children, before calling for a country opposite to everything Kirk stood for. Think about that. This wasn’t some anonymous online troll spewing vitriol. This was a minister of the Crown in Manitoba, a person paid by taxpayers to represent us, publicly celebrating the death of a man killed for his beliefs. Continue…

Albania has added an artificial intelligence (AI) bot to its cabinet in the government claims will promote transparency and reform.

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Friday that a virtual “minister” named Diella will join his new government, with a mandate to combat corruption and streamline state services.

“Diella is the first member not physically present, but virtually created by artificial intelligence,” he told party members.
