CNBC and other mainstream networks are screaming about a meeting between Elon Musk and Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, which happened Monday, but is only now being revealed by the NY Times and others. They are questioning just how involved Musk is in America's national security affairs.

Elon Musk, a close adviser to President-elect Donald J. Trump, met with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations on Monday in New York in a session that two Iranian officials described as a discussion of how to defuse tensions between Iran and the United States.

The Iranians said the meeting between Mr. Musk and Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani lasted more than an hour and was held at a secret location. The Iranians, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss policy publicly, described the meeting as “positive” and “good news.”

Hundreds of protesters broke into the parliament building in Abkhazia on Friday, demanding that the country’s president resign. Demonstrators are protesting against an investment agreement with Russia.

Abkhazia’s parliament had been expected to consider the ratification of the agreement with Moscow, enabling Russian companies to carry out investment projects in the country.

According to media reports, protesters used a truck to smash through the metal gates surrounding the parliament in the capital, Sukhum. Footage circulating on social media showed people climbing through windows after prying off metal bars. They were also heard chanting in the corridors.

Protesters threw sticks and stones at law enforcement officers, according to videos from the scene.

Russian news outlet Sputnik reported that protesters have entered the presidential administration through the parliament building, and are refusing to leave until President Aslan Bzhania announces his resignation.

One video shows opposition figure Levan Mikaa surrounded by demonstrators. Mikaa declared that the group will not leave the building until Bzhania’s resignation.

UAE Pavilion showcases defence, space innovation at BIAS 2024

The participation in the pavilion, one of five countries' pavilions at BIAS 2024, demonstrates the commitment to advancing the region's aerospace and defence capabilities and underscoring the strong relationship between Bahrain and the UAE.

Representing the Gulf Aircraft Maintenance Company (GAL), Ahmed Alanezy, Senior Vice President of Business Development, highlighted GAL’s comprehensive role as a manpower and logistics service provider for the UAE Ministry of Defence.

"We support various entities within the UAE Armed Forces, including the Air Force and Air Defence, with over 5,000 personnel deployed across locations," Alanezy noted.

"Following the success of the Emirates Mars Mission, our focus is now on a complex mission to explore six asteroids and land on a seventh within the asteroid belt," Al Shehhi explained.

The mission, scheduled for launch in early 2028, aims to bolster the UAE’s scientific and engineering community by providing opportunities for Emirati graduates and researchers to engage in advanced space research.

“This mission will contribute to developing new technologies and strengthening the UAE’s presence in space exploration,” he added.

Khaled Almarzooqi, CEO of MIRA Aerospace, spoke about MIRA’s specialised high-altitude platform system (HAPS), a drone designed to operate from the stratosphere for earth observation and telecommunications.

“Our HAPS can reach altitudes of 60,000 feet, well above weather patterns and air traffic, providing valuable data and communication capabilities,” Almarzooqi highlighted.

As part of Space 42, MIRA Aerospace leverages its participation in the BIAS to expand its regional and international partnerships.

“The Bahrain International Airshow is a key event for us, bringing exposure to the regional market and enhancing collaborations with global stakeholders in the aerospace sector,” he noted.

FEC Chair Caught Biden's DOJ Interfering in 2024 Election, And No One Can Deny It This Time

The Federal Election Commission is dropping the hammer on President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice.

On Wednesday, the Washington Free Beacon posted a letter from FEC Chairman Sean Cooksey to DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz and counsel Jeffrey Ragsdale, alleging the DOJ violated its own internal policies when it sent a letter to Elon Musk giving a warning about his political action committee giving away $1 million to registered voters in swing states.

The DOJ letter was picked up by the New York Times on Oct. 23. Cooksey broke down its substance and the issues he saw with the DOJ’s actions in his letter Wednesday.

Cooksey alleged the letter was leaked internally at the DOJ’s Public Integrity Section of its Criminal Division, with its intent being “to intimidate and chill private citizens and organizations from campaigning on behalf of President Trump.”

The content of the DOJ letter “informed America PAC that its constitutionally protected political activities may violate federal laws against paying individuals to register to vote, and then threatened the organization with potential criminal investigation and prosecution,” according to Cooksey.

Speaking on the actual violations that took place by the DOJ, he said:

“Public Integrity’s actions appear to be in violation of multiple Department policies. At the outset, it is not apparent that the Department allows for its attorneys to issue ‘warning letters’ in this form that opine on the legality of individuals’ conduct.”

He then quoted the Justice Manual’s “prohibition against impermissible considerations for Department actions,” a section that says, “[F]ederal prosecutors and agents may never make a decision regarding an investigation or prosecution, or select the timing of investigative steps or criminal charges, for the purpose of affecting any election, or for the purpose of giving an advantage or disadvantage to any candidate or political party.”

Cooksey said that “was plainly the case here,” adding that “[t]he underlying motivation behind this stunt is obvious: employees of President Biden’s Department of Justice wanted to stop an independent political committee from campaigning for President Trump in crucial swing states just prior to election day.”

“It is yet another example in the Department’s troubling recent history of interfering in our country’s democratic electoral process for partisan purposes,” he continued.

“Our country cannot allow the Department to be used as a weapon against its perceived political opponents,” he concluded. “I urge you to help undertake a thorough investigation, remove bad actors from the Department’s ranks, and hold guilty parties accountable.”

Is there a legal basis behind the DOJ’s warning to Musk that would elevate it beyond bullying and intimidation?

As Cooksey put it himself, “The letter acknowledges that America PAC has not been accused of any direct legal violation, and as the Justice Manual makes clear, there is ordinarily ‘no legitimate government interest served by the government’s public allegation of wrongdoing by an uncharged party.'”

The DOJ decided Musk’s efforts were bad for the Democrats and Vice President Kamala Harris, so they decided to try to scare him into stopping.

Ironically, it is the DOJ that was interfering in an election with the warning letter to Musk.

Cooksey made it clear that President-elect Donald Trump’s victory did not absolve the DOJ of all wrongdoing.

After relentless lawfare against the president-elect, and now an obvious case of interference, there needs to be accountability.

With Rep Matt Gaetz as Trump’s pick for attorney general, hopes are high that this corruption can be rooted out and the DOJ can resume actually serving the American people.

Rhetoric of enhanced border security have led to sweeping expansions of unconstitutional surveillance of American citizens on social media.

Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath. Politicians, on the other hand, seem to operate under a different code—call it the “hypocritical oath.” Few stories capture that paradox quite like the Biden administration’s double-dealing on immigration and surveillance. Here’s a White House that promised to bring “humanity” to the immigration process, while reportedly expanding the very surveillance policies it once denounced. As this double act rolls out in the final days of the administration, it’s raising a question: was the entire immigration reform rhetoric just a prelude to broadening government spying?

Let’s take a closer look: immigration became a hot-button campaign issue, with plenty of talk about “welcoming” migrants, combined with a healthy dose of hand-wringing about border security. Now, however, critics are uncovering what looks like the real priority—an enhanced federal surveillance operation aimed at monitoring not just new arrivals, but American citizens too. In the name of keeping tabs on who’s coming and going, the administration sank more than $100 million into a social media surveillance system designed to keep an eye on everyone.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) first flirted with these powers under Trump’s presidency, when ICE officials began monitoring social media under the guise of protecting the homeland. The Biden-Harris administration, having previously expressed horror at Trump-era excesses, took a softer tack, but actually increased mass surveillance. They rebranded the initiative as the Visa Lifecycle Vetting Initiative (VLVI), a name that practically exudes bureaucratic charm while implying a methodical, visa-centric approach. But if it was just an immigration program, why was it scanning communications between Americans and their international friends, family, or business contacts?

According to a lawsuit from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), the program evolved into something much larger than a mere visa vetting system. The scheme entailed broad surveillance of communications and social media activity, conveniently sidestepping pesky things like “probable cause” or the First Amendment. “Government officials peering through their correspondence with colleagues visiting from overseas and scrutinizing the opinions expressed in their communications and their work,” read a lawsuit that laid bare the VLVI’s invasive nature. What started as a system to vet foreigners’ eligibility to enter the U.S. quietly metastasized into an excuse to monitor anyone who dared connect across borders.

University of Arizona researchers have created the first astronomical equivalent of a fingerprint database for satellites, a critical first step toward easily identifying human-made objects in the increasingly crowded geostationary orbit.

This database, or spectral atlas, includes 96 satellites in the geostationary orbit, or GEO – home to satellites used for communications, imaging, navigation and other purposes – that are visible from Tucson.

Adam Battle, a Ph.D. candidate in the U of A Lunar and Planetary Laboratory supported by the Space4 Center, led the research, which was published Tuesday in The Planetary Science Journal.

"Satellites look like tiny dots in the sky, even through most telescopes. For decades, humans have launched tens of thousands of objects into space with no mechanism for identifying them easily," Battle said.

"This is the first time this sort of systematic, big atlas of spectral data has been collected for these objects. It gives us a baseline for differentiating space objects, for knowing where everything is and what has changed and keeping that space safe."

The United States Space Surveillance Network, part of the U.S. Space Command, tracks more than 45,000 artificial objects in Earth's orbit, including about 350 active payloads in GEO.

The GEO belt is a unique orbit about 22,000 miles above Earth's equator. Satellites in GEO orbit at the same rate and direction as Earth; from the ground, they appear to stand still.

Only so many orbital slots are available in GEO, making them valuable to companies and nations looking to put satellites there.

The average lifespan of a satellite in GEO is about 15 to 20 years, after which they are maneuvered into a higher, "graveyard" orbit where they remain as space junk.

"The orbital space around the Earth is getting congested, and we unfortunately do not have license places for satellites to identify them easily.

This work is the first step towards making space safe, secure and sustainable," said Vishnu Reddy, director of the university's Space4 Center and a planetary science professor who co-authored the paper. Reddy, Battle's Ph.D. advisor, initiated the project when he started at the U of A nearly a decade ago.

Other co-authors of the research include Roberto Furfaro, professor of systems and industrial engineering and Space4 deputy director, and Space4 Center software engineer Tanner Campbell.

The U of A team used the power of spectroscopy to create the atlas.

With spectroscopy, the team can measure how the sun's light interacts with materials on the satellites like metals, paint and solar panels, and how these interactions change with illumination conditions.

The results are a detailed pattern of colors for those unique conditions – a color fingerprint – that can be used to identify that specific object.

Using a telescope built by U of A students and housed on campus, Battle observed objects in GEO for 192 nights during every season between January 2020 and June 2022, except for the cloudy summer months.

A typical night's worth of observing involved imaging one object every 45 seconds for the entire night. This generated 284 separate datasets and about 190,000 spectra.

As part of his study, Battle focused on repeated observations of five satellite bus types – the central structure to which communications arrays, thrusters and solar panels are mounted – to determine how their spectra varied over nights and seasons and how they differed from the spectra of natural objects.

The resulting atlas contains the unique detailed patterns of colors for 96 individual satellites observed in GEO from Tucson.

"Historically, scientists have used brightness measurements, as the phase angle changes.

But using spectroscopy allows you to add another layer of information, and the ultimate goal is to be able to uniquely identify different satellites with machine learning algorithms trained on these 'fingerprints,'" Battle said.

"We can also compare these spectra to samples in the lab to begin estimating what materials are used on the spacecraft."

David Cantillo, another Lunar and Planetary Laboratory graduate student working with Reddy, is building a telescope in Australia, where he plans to expand the atlas by studying space objects in GEO that aren't visible from the United States.

"The next step is to combine the power of machine learning with this incredible dataset for fast and credible identification of satellites," Furfaro said.

Google Erases History: When Asked ‘What Happened on July 13?’ AI Fails to Include Trump Assassination Attempt

Google AI does not include the assassination attempt against President-elect Donald Trump when users search for “what happened on July 13?” After censoring the attempt in its immediate aftermath, Google is now attempting to erase the assassination try using its controversial AI tool.

When users search “what happened on July 13?”, Google provides an “AI Overview” above search results. It includes many interesting facts through history, such as the closure of Ellis Island in 1954. But it ignores one of the most important events in recent American history, the attempted assassination of President-elect Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, when users search “what happened on March 30?” Google’s AI immediately shows results for the assassination attempt on former President Ronald Reagan in 1981, even before a chronological list of other events.

For example, if someone were to tell a friend, “I found July 13 upsetting,” and that friend googled what “what happened on July 13?” they would find information on a number of historical events, but none on the assassination attempt against Trump, which stands as the most historical event many alive today have witnessed.

When searching “what happened on July 13?” Google’s AI Overview states, “Many events have happened on July 13,” and offers the following information:

• 1793: Jean-Paul Marat, a leader of the radical Montagnard faction during the French Revolution, was assassinated in his bath by Charlotte Corday.

• 1934: Adolf Hitler gave a nationally broadcast speech to justify the Night of the Long Knives.

• 1941: Britain and the Soviet Union signed a mutual aid pact.

• 1954: Ellis Island closed its doors.

• 1966: 1ke & Tina Turner scored their first major hit in the UK with “River Deep – Mountain High”

• 1974: George McCrae hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Rock Your Baby”

• 1991: Bryan Adams began a 16-week run at the top of the UK pop chart with “(Everything | Do) | Do It For You”

• 2004: A violent tornado tracked for 9.6 miles across Woodford County, Illinois.

• 2015: 130 people died in Paris terror attacks.

For other users, searching the same question on the tech giant’s website simply results in a message stating, “An AI Overview is not available for this search.”

But if one were to search, “What happened on March 30?” Google’s AI recalls the assassination attempt against Reagan in 1981.: “On March 30, 1981, U.S. President Ronald Reagan was shot and wounded by John Hinckley Jr. outside a Washington D.C. hotel, marking a significant event in history on this date; other individuals including a Secret Service agent and a police officer were also injured in the incident.”

• Google even goes on to offer “key points” involving the assassination attempt on March 30, 1981, explaining, “Assassination attempt on Reagan:This is the most notable event associated with March 30th.”

• “Shooter: John Hinckley Jr.” the tech giant elaborates, adding, “Location: Outside a Washington D.C. hotel.”

This is not Google’s first act of bias against Donald Trump before and during the election. The search giant previously hid search autocomplete suggestions related to the assassination attempt. It later claimed that this was a “mistake,”Google’s stock answer to allegations of bias. On election day,Google provided radically different answers to queries of “where to vote” depending on which candidate’s name was included. This too was labeled a bug by the Masters of the Universe.

While many alive today are aware of the July 13 assassination attempt against the 45th and soon-to-be 47th president in Butler, Pennsylvania — because they lived through it —Google’s failure to recall the event serves as an eerie reminder that Big Tech has the power to erase history, as future generations will be unable to find information on one of the most historical events transpiring at the dawn of the 21st century.

FAA Moves to Streamline Launch Licenses for Commercial Space Firms

After a record year for commercial spaceflight, the FAA is taking steps to streamline the process for licensing launches and landings.

According to FAA data, commercial space operators launched from or landed on U.S. soil 148 times during fiscal year 2024—an uptick of 30 percent year over year and 900 percent over the past decade.

The agency would like to see that cadence continue to grow and is launching an aerospace rulemaking committee (ARC) to refresh its launch licensing rules.

Officials expect the ARC to deliver a report with suggested changes to the FAA’s Part 450 regulations by late summer 2025 and will use its recommendations to plan future rules.

“The FAA is seeking to update the licensing rule to foster more clarity, flexibility, efficiency, and innovation,” said Kelvin Coleman, associate administrator for commercial space transportation at the FAA.

“Making timely licensing determinations without compromising public safety is a top priority.”

Part 450 covers all commercial space operations in the U.S. and was designed to minimize back-and-forth between the FAA and industry.

Seven companies have obtained launch or reentry licenses under the rule, among them Stratolaunch, Varda Space, and Astra Space.

SpaceX, though, dwarfs all other Part 450 license holders.

The firm accounted for 118 of the 142 launches the FAA’s Office of Commercial Space Transportation licensed in the past fiscal year, or more than 80 percent.

SpaceX and U.S. elected officials have publicly challenged the FAA for what they perceive as bureaucratic red tape that is causing unnecessary launch delays.

FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker defended the agency’s process to Congress during an October hearing, saying that any delays are “necessary” for safety.

The FAA on Thursday said its staff is at an all-time high of 165, up from 118 two years ago. In fiscal year 2024, it issued two new licenses, 10 renewals, and 37 modifications.

Per the agency’s own forecast, however, commercial launches and landings could approach 300 per year by fiscal year 2028.

To keep pace with commercial space technology—and help American firms keep pace with competitors abroad—the agency will begin meeting with a committee of industry and academia next month.

The ARC will analyze flight safety, system safety, means of compliance, and other topics to identify ways to accelerate the licensing process.

In the meantime, the FAA encouraged commercial launch providers to speed up things themselves by consulting with the Office of Commercial Space Transportation, which it said could help them better understand the application and modification process.

Dr. Paul R. McHugh, former senior psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins Hospital and current Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry, said transgender people are a “mental disorder” that needs to be treated, that sex reassignment surgery is “biologically impossible” and that people who promote sex reassignment surgery are cooperating with and promoting a mental disorder, CNS News reports.

Dr. McHugh, author of six books and at least 125 peer-reviewed medical articles, spoke out in a recent commentary in the Wall Street Journal, explaining that transgender surgery is not the solution for people suffering from a “disorder of ‘assumption'” – the idea that their masculinity or femininity is different from what nature has biologically assigned them.

He also reported on a new study showing that the suicide rate among transgender people who have undergone gender reassignment surgery is 20 times higher than the suicide rate among non-transgender people. Dr. McHugh also pointed to studies at Vanderbilt University and the London Portman Clinic of children who had expressed transgender feelings, but in whom 70–80% “spontaneously lost those feelings over time.”

The disorder of the transsexual person, Dr. McHugh said, is the person’s assumption that they are different from the physical reality of their body, their masculinity or femininity as assigned by nature. This disorder is comparable to a dangerously thin person suffering from anorexia who looks in the mirror and thinks they are overweight, McHugh said.

This assumption that one’s gender exists only in the imagination, independent of anatomical reality, has led some transgender individuals to push for social acceptance and validation of their subjective personal truth, he continues. As a result, some states–California, New Jersey and Massachusetts–have passed laws prohibiting psychiatrists, “even with parental permission, from seeking to restore a transgender minor’s natural gender feelings,” he said.

Transgender advocates don’t want you to know, Dr. McHugh said, that studies show that between 70% and 80% of children who express transgender feelings spontaneously lose those feelings over time. In addition, most of those who underwent gender reassignment indicated they were satisfied with the surgery, “but their subsequent psychosocial adjustment was no better than those who did not have surgery.”

“And so at Hopkins, we stopped doing gender reassignment surgery because producing a ‘satisfied’ but still troubled patient seemed like an insufficient reason to surgically amputate normal organs,” Dr. McHugh said.

A “sex change” is biologically impossible, McHugh said. “People who undergo gender reassignment surgery do not go from being men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women. Claiming it’s a civil rights issue and encouraging surgical procedures is really colluding with and promoting a mental disorder.”

Neural circuits reveal new insights into how we navigate space and store memories

Researchers led by the University of California, Irvine are the first to reveal how two neural circuits located in the brain's retrosplenial cortex are directly linked to spatial navigation and memory storage.

This discovery could lead to more precise medical treatments for Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive disorders by allowing them to target pathway-specific neural circuits.

The study, published in Molecular Psychiatry, identified two types of RSC pathways, connected to different parts of the brain, each with its own pattern of inputs and functions.

"By demonstrating how specific circuits in the RSC contribute to different aspects of cognition, our findings provide an anatomical foundation for future studies and offer new insights into how we learn and remember the space around us," said lead and co-corresponding author Xiangmin Xu, UC Irvine Chancellor's Professor of anatomy and neurobiology and director of the campus's Center for Neural Circuit Mapping.

"This is an important step in understanding how conditions like Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders affect particular regions of the brain, which will help to inform new approaches and treatments."

The RSC is linked to multiple regions of the brain. The team focused on two main pathways: the M2-projecting, which is connected to the secondary motor cortex, and the AD-projecting, which is connected to the anterior thalamus.

M2 neurons are involved in turning spatial thought into action, while the AD neurons are vital for remembering specific locations.

To observe these circuits in action, researchers used advanced viral tools to map and manipulate the connections separately and evaluate the effects.

They found that blocking M2-projecting neurons made it more difficult to remember where objects were located and to associate specific places with actions. Inhibiting AD-projecting neurons only diminished memory of objects' location.

"We are expanding on these results to explore additional pathways within the RSC, examining how different types of neurons impact memory and spatial orientation," Xu said. "Our goal is to build a map of the brain's 'GPS system.'

This will not only increase our knowledge of how we navigate our world and form memories of it, but also help identify specific brain cells and their pathways contributing to various disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and develop treatments that target them."

Other team members were Xiaoxiao Lin, Ali Ghafuri, Xiaojun Chen and Musab Kazmi, all current or former members of Xu's lab; and co-corresponding author Douglas A. Nitz, professor and chair of cognitive science at UC San Diego.
