Japan PM Kishida leaves for US to attend NATO summit

Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on Wednesday left for the United States to attend the NATO summit. Kishida is scheduled to visit the United States and Germany during his five-day trip. He will also hold talks with leaders of various countries on the sidelines of the summit. Ahead of his departure, Kishida told reporters that he wants to confirm with leaders of NATO member countries that the security of the Euro-Atlantic region and that of the Indo-Pacific region are inseparable. He said he also wants to confirm sustainable cooperation between NATO and its Indo-Pacific partners including Japan.

Kishida also unveiled his plans to meet newly elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and, separately, leaders of South Korea, the Netherlands and Finland.

The White House press secretary clarified that President Joe Biden did see a neurologist in January, contradicting claims she made during Tuesday’s news briefing.

Lockheed Martin receives Laser Retroflector Arrays for GPS III SV9, SV10

July 9, 2024

In partnership with NASA and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Space Force GPS III Program Office has delivered two laser retroflector arrays to Lockheed Martin.

On May 6, the LRAs were delivered under a directed program to rapidly integrate hosted payloads on GPS satellites ahead of launch call up.

The LRAs will be installed onto two GPS III satellites, SV9 and SV10, in preparation for a 2025 launch.

The addition of the LRA hosted payload onto GPS satellites marks an expansion of NASA’s Space Geodesy Program space instrument network.

The GPS III LRAs will allow NASA to make precise range measurements to the sub-centimeter level using the Satellite Laser Ranging technique, enabling accurate determination of the Earth’s center.

The NASA Space Geodesy Program and NGA will use collected SLR data from the GPS III LRAs to maintain a globally available, high quality terrestrial reference frame.

“This is a great example of partnership between the Space Force, NGA and NASA.

We were able to add new capabilities to the GPS constellation years ahead of schedule while ensuring the billions of people who rely on our signals daily would be unaffected,” said U.S. Space Force Col. Andrew Menschner, Position, Navigation and Timing Delta (Provisional) commander at Space Operations Command.

“We expect LRAs to be standard on future GPS vehicles and are pleased that SV9 and SV10 will have the capability prior to launch.”

The LRA instrument is an array of passive “Corner Cubes” that reflects laser light back to a transmitting SLR ground station.

By measuring the round-trip time of the laser pulse, the ground stations are able to accurately measure the orbit of the GPS satellite.

SLR can achieve millimeter-level precise orbits, which enables the scientific community to also conduct fundamental physics experiments in general relativity, as well as Earth monitoring missions, to include sea level changes, and mass redistribution in the Earth-ocean-atmosphere system.

“GPS III putting two new reflectors on orbit next year shows how quickly we are able to upgrade capabilities,” Menschner said.

“This success is an incredible tribute to the outstanding talent, mission focus and partnering across the entire team.

NASA partnered with the Naval Research Laboratory’s Naval Center for Space Technology to build the retroreflectors, while Lockheed Martin will integrate the flight hardware onto GPS III vehicles, which will be operated by the U.S. Space Force’s PNT Delta (P).

When the LRAs are on orbit, the GPS satellite will realize an added benefit of enhanced orbit determination with the measurement accuracy required to support GPS-enabled technologies throughout the 21st Century.

Space operations boss wants more virtual simulations to boost training

The Space Force wants better virtual training simulations that mimic real-life threats to better hone guardians’ skills, a top defense official said.

“We don't have the emulation capability for the threat and the simulation capability across units to allow us to train at the high fidelity levels that we will need to,” Lt. Gen. High-tech Western weapons ‘useless’ in Ukraine conflict – WSJ

Satellite-guided shells are particularly vulnerable to Russian jamming technology, commanders in Kiev have told the newspaper

Russia’s electronic warfare capabilities have rendered precision-guided Western munitions “useless” in the Ukraine conflict, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. With their guidance systems scrambled, some of these weapons have reportedly been retired within weeks of hitting the battlefield.

When the US announced the delivery of GPS-guided Excalibur artillery shells to Ukraine in 2022, pro-Kiev outlets predicted that the $100,000-per-shot projectiles would make “Ukrainian artillery a whole lot more accurate” and “cause Russia a world of pain.”

However, the Russian military adapted within weeks, Ukrainian commanders told the Wall Street Journal. Russian signal-jamming equipment was used to feed false coordinates to the shells and interfere with their fuses, causing them to veer off course or fall to the ground as duds.

“By the middle of last year, the M982 Excalibur munitions, developed by RTX and BAE Systems, became essentially useless and are no longer employed,” the newspaper stated, paraphrasing the Ukrainian commanders.

The Soviet Union invested heavily in electronic warfare (EW) during the 1980s, viewing jamming technology as a crucial bulwark against the guided missiles and shells that the US was beginning to develop at the time. While weapons such as the 1990s-era Excalibur shells were used by the US to devastating effect in Iraq and Afghanistan, officials and analysts in Washington have since concluded that they are far less effective against a peer-level opponent like Russia.

“The Russians have gotten really, really good” at interfering with guided munitions, US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment William LaPlante told the WSJ.

Retired US General Ben Hodges, who once predicted that Western weapons would help Ukraine seize Crimea by last winter, told the newspaper that “we probably made some bad assumptions because over the last 20 years we were launching precision weapons against people that could not do anything about it… and Russia and China do have these capabilities.”

Some of NATO’s most advanced weapons systems have met a similar fate in Ukraine. The newly-developed Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), a joint project of Boeing in the US and Saab in Sweden, was given to Ukraine earlier this year, with Kiev’s troops firing these GPS-guided munitions before their American counterparts. However, it has since been pulled from the battlefield after it proved completely ineffective against Russian EW.

Likewise, Russian EW has significantly blunted the accuracy of Ukraine’s Western-provided GMLRS missiles, which are fired from the HIMARS multiple-launch rocket system, Ukrainian soldiers told the WSJ. As with the Excalibur shells, GMLRS missiles were once described by pro-Kiev pundits and analysts as a “game changer” that would swing the conflict in Ukraine’s favor.

Russia has long insisted that no amount of Western weapons systems will prevent it from achieving victory. Supplying these weapons is a “futile project” that will only encourage Kiev to “commit new crimes,” Moscow’s ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, warned last week.

Japan PM Kishida leaves for US to attend NATO summit

Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on Wednesday left for the United States to attend the NATO summit. Kishida is scheduled to visit the United States and Germany during his five-day trip. He will also hold talks with leaders of various countries on the sidelines of the summit. Ahead of his departure, Kishida told reporters that he wants to confirm with leaders of NATO member countries that the security of the Euro-Atlantic region and that of the Indo-Pacific region are inseparable. He said he also wants to confirm sustainable cooperation between NATO and its Indo-Pacific partners including Japan.

Kishida also unveiled his plans to meet newly elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and, separately, leaders of South Korea, the Netherlands and Finland.

A Trump judge just blocked the ban of noncompete clauses

The FTC voted to ban noncompete agreements in April—those pesky clauses that employers often force their workers to sign which effectively bar them from starting their own business or finding a new job in the same field within a certain area or timeframe after leaving their current job.

Judge Ada Brown, a Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas, has issued a preliminary order against the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) ban on noncompete clauses, which is scheduled to take effect this fall.

The order was issued last week in a lawsuit brought by Ryan LLC, a company owned by a Republican mega donor and tax adviser to former president Donald Trump.

In April, the FTC voted to ban noncompete agreements—those pesky clauses that employers often force their workers to sign which effectively bar them from starting their own business or finding a new job in the same field within a certain area or timeframe after leaving their current job.

The move was lauded by the country’s largest labor federation.

“Noncompete agreements trap workers from finding better jobs, drive down wages, and stifle competition,” the American Federation of Labor tweeted.

The BRICS Will Use a Gold Standard

Given the following realities; the BRICS and those that wish to trade with them must go on a gold standard in part or in whole. Why?

It’s all about supply chains and payment chains. The US must rebuild supply chains to remain self-sufficient in certain commodities or it must trade with the BRICS on the BRICS terms. And that means with Gold in hand

The BRICS, in turn, must build payment chains (and value-added portions of supply chains) to replace the SWIFT system. Either that or they must then remain dependent on the US. And that means with the USD in hand

The alternative to ignoring these choices between economic self-sufficiency and a Gold standard for continued international trade is: isolation, misallocation and misuse of resources, and finally escalation of war.

What follows is a description of the situation, a contextual overview of the BRICS plan, and how the G7 must continue to respond over the next 5 years.

1- The Currency:

The BRICS are in the process of creating a settlement medium (currency, medium of exchange) for international trade comprised of Gold and other assets deemed separable from Dollar influence.

Delivery and receipt of this Settlement Medium concurrent with the reciprocal goods ( the goods bought with the Settlement medium) exchanged for said Medium will make final all transactions negotiated.

This Currency will entitle to the bearer a uniform basket of assets (commodities, currencies, bonds etc) deemed worthy as stores of value amongst the users endorsing it. On demand and likely physically accessible to make participant accounts current

2- The Unit and Technology:

The currency will make use of Blockchain. In doing so this will serve as an immutable contract between negotiating parties. In combination with other precautionary measures,1 it will give reasonable assurances against fraudulent representations as to what the currency has actually backing it.

The combination of UNIT type prorata measurements, Blockchain type security, and Current Accounting economics it is believed will serve to solidify the nascent currency’s denomination, reliabililty, and value.

4- The G7 Problem, Solved With Gold & Silver:

It is believed the West’s G7 Central Banks will need to have BRICS currency exposure in their reserve to better hedge their own economic risks. Failing literally to have that BRICS currency, the G7 CBs and sovereign wealth funds will simply continue to accumulate the assets (Gold, Silver etc) deemed important (or hard to get on demand like Gold and Silver) within the Store of Value basket the BRICS created. in other words, they will simply reverse engineer the basket and buy the parts needed.

The G7 CBs can then trade by creating their own mirror basket of Eastern Currencies, bonds, and Gold in what will likely be an IMF/SDR type of basket for risk purposes if ever needed.

6- The BRICS Challenge to Dollar Hegemony

For over a decade, discussions have simmered about moving away from the U.S. dollar. Recently, these ideas have taken a more concrete shape, driven by the BRICS nations, which are positioning themselves as a counterbalance to Western influence.

This Missing Michigan Man’s Story May Prove Aliens or Time Portals May Exist

There is a lot of mystery in the state of Michigan, and our urban legends are known throughout the country.

But there are some things that have happened in our state that is beyond imagination and is impossible to explain.

Many of these stories have been featured on recent shows, like the UFOs over Lake Michigan episode of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix.

It describes a series of events that took place in the early 90s in West Michigan involving UFOs and erratic behavior over the Great Lakes.

Most recently a story was brought up on the newest episode of Ancient Aliens on the History Channel.

The episode was about Stargates and if they could actually exist.

This prompted the team to discuss the disappearance of Steven Kubacki.

For the better part from 1972 to 1978, Steven attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

When one day he wandered out to Lake Michigan over the frozen waters and his tracks mysteriously disappeared.

But the story gets much stranger as his website details.

"On a frigid winter day in 1978, Steven Kubacki went cross-country skiing on the frozen ice of Lake Michigan, and he never came back.

Two snowmobilers discovered his skis, poles, and backpack, and after an exhaustive search, search-and-rescue teams determined the 23-year-old college senior must have fallen into one of the deep crevasses in the ice and drowned.

His family and friends mourned his death. Fifteen months later, a motorist in Massachusetts picked up a hitchhiker who asked to be taken to the nearest pay phone.

It was Steven Kubacki."
