So when failed presidential candidate John Edwards said on the campaign trail in 2004 that there are “two Americas,” he was right — just not in the way he thought. CUP illustrates this well, summarizing its findings:

In a time when most Americans have suffered a loss of real take-home pay, 74% of elites say they are financially better off today than in the past versus 20% of all Americans.

Nearly six in ten say there is too much individual freedom in America – double the rate of all Americans.

More than two-thirds (67%) favor rationing of vital energy and food sources to combat the threat of climate change.

In stark contrast to the rest of America, 70% of the Elites trust the government to “do the right thing most of the time.”

Two-thirds (67%) say teachers and other educational professionals should decide what children are taught rather than letting parents decide.

Somewhere between half and two-thirds favor banning things like SUVs, gas stoves, air conditioning, and non-essential air travel to protect the environment.

About six of ten elites have a favorable opinion of the so-called talking professions—lawyers, lobbyists, politicians, and journalists.

President Joe Biden enjoys an 84% job approval rating from this group – roughly twice as high as the general public.

Power Line’s John Hinderaker points out, however, that it’s a mistake calling these people “elite” — and not because they’re merely pseudo-elites, wholly unspectacular intellectually and morally. Rather, adding perspective, he writes:

Ten thousand people per square mile represents a high-density urban environment. But in that context, $150,000 a year is no princely salary. Nationwide, it takes far more–around $650,000 annually–to be in the top 1% in income. A person who lives in a big city and earns $150,000 is not, in any financial sense, elite.

So the key element in [the] formula is having a postgraduate degree. Basically, what we are surveying here is people with graduate degrees who live in cities, the large majority of whom don’t make a great deal of money. Many in that group are probably women….

In fact, with these people having been indoctrinated out of their common sense, coming to mind could be the saying, “Never let your schooling interfere with your education.”

As for many respondents possibly being female, note that young women in large cities actually enjoy relative wage parity with men; in fact, they out-earn their male counterparts in several large metropolises.

This said and as the electoral “sex gap” reflects, women are generally more liberal than men are; women are also significantly more likely to support “left-wing authoritarianism,” according to a study cited by famed psychologist Jordan Peterson.

Whatever their sex, however, clear is that a more accurate way than even “pseudo-elite” to describe most of these people is “useful idiots.” As with the liberal NYC parent who balked at “diversity” after an integration plan affected his kids’ school — saying “It’s more complicated when it’s about your own children” — these “progressives” aren’t big on living with their own ideals.

But they’d have to.

Under the kind of government they’d (unwittingly) enable, only a minuscule ruling pseudo-elite enjoy power, position, pocketbook, and perks. The billionaire Soros and Gates clans may be able to buy themselves a place at the table, but $150k (which they’d no longer command, anyway) will place you among the serfs.

In other words, these useful idiots would be subject to rationing themselves — inclusive of the arts-and-croissant-crowd pleasures of which they’re so fond. Our entire modern lifestyle, after all, is energy dependent.

The lesson is that the hellfire demons of despotism can be liberated but not moderated, and will happily consume along with those who’d tighten their bonds, those who would loose them.

Pentagon Offers Unusual Reason Why Anti-Air Defenses Failed At Jordan Border Base

(Update 1114ET): Some surprising details and admissions have emerged out of the Pentagon on Monday connected to the drone attack on Jordanian base Tower 22, related to the question of how the base's anti-air defenses could have failed so badly. First, in our prior reporting (below), we linked to Moon of Alabama which asked some key questions not being addressed amid the frenzy of international reporting and growing speculation [emphasis ZH]:

The reporting so far does not answer many arising questions. Tower 22 is on the Jordanian side of the boarder but Jordan insists that no attack had happened on its grounds.

Another anomaly are the high rate of wounded from the alleged drone strike. Drones are used in mass in the Ukraine war but the casualties they cause are usually less than a handful per drone.

The highly automated short and medium range air-defenses (C-RAMs, the equivalent of naval Phalanx guns) at the base should be able to shoot down any drone. Why didn't they work?

Later in the day Monday, some of these questions are being answered. The Wall Street Journal cited US officials who spoke to the failure of the base's anti-air defenses:

The U.S. failed to stop a deadly attack on an American military outpost in Jordan because the enemy drone approached its target at the same time a U.S. drone was also returning to base, U.S. officials said Monday.

The return of the U.S. drone led to some confusion over whether the incoming drone was friend or foe, officials have concluded so far.

The enemy drone was launched from Iraq by a militia backed by Tehran, U.S. officials said. The outpost, Tower 22, sits in Jordan, hard on the borders of Iraq and Syria.

In total three US service members died and at least 34 were injured, with eight of these having been medically evacuated to a hospital in Germany.

At a moment some US Congressional hawks are clamoring to start a war with Iran, WSJ writes further, "The U.S. has yet to find evidence thus far that Iran directed the attack, a U.S. defense official said Monday."

Bipartisan Lawmakers Accuse Biden Of Violating The Constitution With Unauthorized Middle-East Strikes

Nearly 30 bipartisan members of the House have sent a letter to President Biden urging him to get authorization from Congress before launching more strikes against the Houthis in Yemen.

The letter, led by Reps. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Warren Davidson (R-OH), said President Biden was violating the Constitution by launching a new war against the Houthis.

"We believe the US’s unauthorized strikes in Yemen violate the Constitution and US statute. We ask that your Administration outlines for us the legal authority used to conduct these strikes, and we urge your Administration to seek authorization from Congress before conducting any more unauthorized strikes in Yemen," the letter reads.

"As representatives of the American people, Congress must engage in robust debate before American servicemembers are put in harm’s way and before more US taxpayer dollars are spent on yet another war in the Middle East. No President, regardless of political party, has the constitutional authority to bypass Congress on matters of war,” the letter says.

Four senators sent a similar letter to President Biden that questioned his legal authority for the strikes.

The US has now bombed Yemen 10 times since January 12. Britain joined the US in some of the strikes, but most have been unilateral US strikes. The latest US attack was conducted early Saturday morning Yemen time, according to US Central Command.

CENTCOM claimed the strikes on Saturday targeted a Houthi anti-ship missile that was aimed at the Red Sea. Yemen’s Al-Masira TV reported the strikes targeted the Ras Issa port, Yemen’s main oil export terminal, which is located in the western Hodeidah province.

The US strikes have done nothing to deter the Houthis, as they have broadened their attacks on commercial shipping to include American and British vessels. Before President Biden started bombing Yemen, the Houthis said they were only targeting Israel-linked shipping to protest the Israeli massacre in Gaza.

Separated by a generation of GOP politics, the two leaders are now playing to two completely opposite wings of the party. McConnell was elected to the Senate in 1984, the Reagan era’s peak, while Johnson won his House seat in 2016 alongside Trump — and it shows, as he coordinates closely with the former president these days.

The Senate GOP leader is nearing the end of a record-breaking term atop the conference, looking to lock down his legacy by ensuring his party helps fund Ukraine’s defense against Russia. Johnson, meanwhile, is fighting a day-to-day battle for political survival after vaulting out of obscurity into the speakership, charting a Trump-centric course for House Republicans. (not his legacy but locking down more money laundering to him in retirement.)

Sen. John Neely Kennedy (R-La.), who knows both GOP leaders, acknowledged the two have differences in policy and experience but argued that “the gap between Mitch and Mike is not that great.”

House conservatives don’t exactly agree. They’re not willing to toss Johnson from the speakership yet, but most view McConnell with deep skepticism, if not open hostility. At times, Johnson sounds much like McConnell when promoting a strong border deal alongside Ukraine aid — but he’s also aggressively distanced himself from the Senate’s negotiations.

One Johnson ally, granted anonymity to speak candidly, said that the House GOP sees itself as more closely aligned with the average Republican voter, particularly when it comes to Ukraine aid and immigration.

“[McConnell] and Schumer have ruled this place for way too long. And financially we cannot afford the two of them. … That’s why we’re really calling on Mike to stand strong,” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) said.

There’s a more urgent matter for Johnson, too: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is warning that if he allows a vote on $60 billion in Ukraine, then she would force a vote to oust him. Given his increasingly narrow majority, it would only take three Republicans to topple him unless he gets help from Democrats. Potential Republican absences could narrow that margin further. “I would introduce the motion to vacate myself,” Greene said, predicting that Johnson won’t bring a Senate deal to the House floor. ‘The House is ready to act': Johnson doesn’t budge on his border asks.

It’s not just outright threats to strip Johnson of his gavel. His conservatives have shown they’re willing to jam up the House floor in retaliation for decisions he makes that they don’t like. From the other side of the ideological spectrum, he’s also facing criticism from one-time leadership allies who want him to reign in his hardliners and doubts about his ability to handle the challenge.

“What we’re finding out is that Mike Johnson is in over his head,” said one House Republican who knows both GOP leaders and requested anonymity to speak frankly — a criticism his allies say confuses his willingness to listen with indecision.

McConnell faces his own internal discord. He’s coming to grips with the reality that Trump is likely to be the Republican presidential nominee, which createsfresh headaches given that McConnell essentially disowned Trump after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Trump has responded with regular attacks on the GOP leader and his family.

US troops killed in Jordan attack: Live updates

President Joe Biden believes that “radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq” are responsible

Three US Army soldiers were killed and over 30 service personnel were injured in a weekend drone attack on a small US outpost in Jordan, near the country’s Syrian border, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).

This is the first instance of American troops being killed by enemy fire in the region since the onset of the Gaza war.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq – an umbrella group for Shia militias – has claimed responsibility for the attack.

President Joe Biden has pledged to hold those responsible for the attack to account, attributing it to “radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.”

The drone strike that killed three American soldiers in Jordan was not just predictable but “an inevitable conclusion” of stationing US troops at “vulnerable” locations across the Middle East, Republican congressional candidate and Iraq War veteran Joe Kent told Tucker Carlson Uncensored.

“We left them there as bait to be killed by Iranians at the time and place of their choosing so that we can continue to escalate towards a war with Iran,” Kent explained. He pointed out that US troops in the region had already been attacked at least 150 times since Israel declared war in Gaza on October 7, prior to Sunday’s strike.

The politician urged the government to resist the temptation to wage an Iraq-style “shock and awe” campaign in Iran. He warned that such a war would result in catastrophic military and financial losses with no perceivable gain for the average American.

The US effectively provoked the airstrike on its Jordanian base with increased attacks on troops allied with the “axis of resistance” in Syria and Iraq in the preceding days, Foad Izadi, a professor of political communications at the University of Tehran, told RT. One such US strike killed an Iraqi military commander.

Attempts to reframe these militias as “Iran-backed” do not change their essential nature, he said. “What the US is trying to do is link these organizations to Iran, hiding the fact that there is a lot of discontent in both Iraq and Syria against American occupation.”

Kiev’s forces have attacked the Kalininsky District of the capital of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic, Aleksey Kulemzin has said

At least three people have been killed and one other wounded in a Ukrainian strike on the Russian city of Donetsk, Aleksey Kulemzin, the mayor of the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic, has said.

The Kalininsky District in the eastern part of the city was targeted on Monday, Kulemzin wrote on Telegram.

Footage allegedly shot at the scene captured several bodies on the ground and the burning debris of a car that had been destroyed in the attack.

According to the republic’s Joint Center for Control and Coordination, eight missiles from a multiple rocket launch system were fired at Kalininsky District at around 3pm local time.

Donetsk, which is located close to Russia’s front line, has frequently been a target of Ukrainian strikes amid the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. But, earlier this month, the city of some 600,000 came under one of the worst attacks when 25 civilians were killed and 20 others wounded during a weekend bombardment of a busy market.

Moscow described the strike as “a barbaric terrorist act” carried out by Ukraine with support from the West, as it relied on weapons supplied by the US and its allies. Kiev’s actions have once again proven that the goal of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine must be achieved, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.

Hardware, Software and Networks

Hardware is nearly all corrupted in several places. The most obvious is the CPU — all major CPU’s have an administrative section which has God mode powers and wifi and 3G access built in, separate from the wifi, cellular or ethernet access. Originally installed in x86 processors, this is now a “feature” of all current CPU’s, though it might not be called Management Engine.

Here’s an article that discusses the “Management Engine” back door:

The EFF described Intel ME as a “largely undocumented master controller for your CPU: it works with system firmware during boot and has direct access to system memory, the screen, keyboard and network.”

Back in June 2016, hardware hacker Damien Zammit warned, “Recent Intel x86 processors implement a secret, powerful control mechanism that runs on a separate chip that no one is allowed to audit or examine. When these are eventually compromised, they’ll expose all affected systems to nearly unkillable, undetectable rootkit attacks.”

Translation: someone with access to this God mode basically owns your computer and can see and hear everything happening on it. All major CPU’s have this “feature”. ARM, inside your phone, AMD and of course Intel Inside. Intel processors have had hidden wifi and 3G connections for many years.

Here are some general rules of thumb about Big Tech spying:

-Assume your phone is always listening. Google spies on everything you say. I’ve personally experience talking with my Android phone in my pocket So do others. Taking your battery out used to be an easy way to stop this when you needed more privacy, but batteries are no longer removable. That was handy for Big Tech, wasn’t it?

-Most devices with electricity could be used for eavesdropping and they connect via cellular IoT bands. IoT is the last unregulated area of the internet and it has billions of devices connected to it. This include TV’s (they have cameras and microphones), ovens, washing machines, stereos, etc.. This can be done remotely or through apps on your device. In the case of TV’s you should put a piece of tape over the camera. Microphones in these devices are dirt cheap, so they will be put everywhere. A friend with a relative at a Chinese security agency told me they can hear ten offices away through a phone microphone. It’s not only your devices spying on you, it’s everything else around you.

-Avoid electronics made by Chinese firms. Here is one case of a clothes iron that had a wifi hacking device inside that sends spam and malware to your network LINK.

-Disable anything with Google. Apple is a little better, but since Steve died, many things he would have forbidden have no doubt been compromised.

The internet is a collection of private networks connected to each other. Everything works well, as long as everyone cooperates. In unstable times, however, things start to break down and it’s time to “lock the gate”.

Policies of each network affect what you can do on the network and this is becoming a problem with de-platforming and censorship. Additionally, the openness of the networks allow security agencies, Big Tech and hackers to collect and censor data easily. One way to do this is to hack an existing router, or in the case of security agencies, toinstall a router in line at the data center. We saw this at Xoom.com in 1997, with a special room at our ISP that was collecting all email and web site visits. No one is the wiser, but everything is vacuumed up and of course the ISP is paid well for this service. No one knows where all that data goes, as it’s shared among different agencies who no doubt trade it with others and even sell it for profit.

The Internet is Becoming Adversarial

The internet has become adversarial and most of the threats you need to worry about are on the public internet. What is not well known is we are entering the next phase of the information war which involves the direct censorship and the altering of information. If you can’t get a message through in the first place, whatever level of security you have on that message is worthless. This is Anti-censorship and the network is the key to getting your message through.

Routers carry your information and because they are exposed to the public internet, they are a major potential problem, as this screen grab shows. Edward Snowden talked about router hacking and toolkits that allow access to Quality of Service (QoS) settings inside the router and many other functions. Just hack in and lower the QoS and you won’t get through to your web site, like this screenshot demonstrates:

This is an MTR chart, it shows the path of packets of information from your computer to the server you are trying to reach. In this case, two routers at Hurricane Electric in California, which is alleged to be affiliated with the CCP, dropped 75% and 89% of the packets, making communications impossible. This kind of attack destroyed Unseen — customers could not reach the server and they requested refunds. You should expect to see missing email, phone calls and blockages to become more frequent.
