Judge Lewis Kaplan, a Clinton appointee, previously ruled that Trump is liable for defamatory statements he made about E. Jean Carroll after she accused him of rape.

In 2019, E. Jean Carroll alleged Donald Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s.

Trump has denied the allegations and called E. Jean Carroll a “whack job” who’s “not my type.”

Under cross-examination by Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba, E. Jean Carroll admitted she deleted emails under subpoena.

“We have to realise it’s not a given that we are in peace. And that’s why we [Nato forces] are preparing for a conflict with Russia,”Baur declared.

He continued, “But the discussion is much wider. It is also the industrial base and also the people that have to understand they play a role.”

“It starts there,” Bauer continued, adding “The realisation that not everything is planable and not everything is going to be hunky dory in the next 20 years.”

Tory MPs on the Standing Committee on Health (HESA) called an emergency meeting Jan. 19 to vote on a motion ordering the production of unredacted copies of the vaccine contracts between the federal government and the now-defunct COVID-19 vaccine manufacturer Medicago.

“Here we are now having the taxpayers of Canada on the hook for over $300 million,” said Conservative MP Stephen Ellis, who introduced the motion to the committee. “What we’re asking for here, on behalf of the taxpayers of Canada, is for clarity.”

The motion also called for a study of the issue, which would include at least six meetings to examine the contracts with several federal ministers, officials from the Public Health Agency of Canada, and the president of Medicago invited to testify.

However, an amendment to the motion was added that would only allow members of the committee to view the vaccine contracts. Slovakia's previous government supplied Kiev with only the S-300 air defense system it had, a squadron of MiG-29 fighter jets, howitzers, as well as other military equipment.

The former government left the sky bare while supporting the Kiev regime, Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinak said in an interview with Standard, a local media source.

“Former government left us without air defense systems, without military aviation, we don’t even have 700 mln [euro] that were promised in exchange for MiG [fighter] jets which were also given to Ukraine by the [former] government”, he stated.

In 2022, Slovakia provided Ukraine with its only S-300 air defense system free of charge. In 2023, its government also supplied the Kiev regime with 13 MiG-29 fighter jets. Western countries promised Slovakia a Patriot air defense system in exchange for the S-300s, as well as 700 million euros in monetary compensation for a squadron of MiG jets.

Nunavut devolution agreement becomes largest land transfer in Canadian history

Nunavut will assume responsibility for a number of its own decisions almost 25 years after becoming a territory following a final agreement signed with the federal government, making it the largest land transfer in Canadian history.

The agreement was signed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier P.J. Akeeagok and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. president Aluki Kotierk at a ceremony in Iqaluit on Thursday.

It will take effect on April 1, and the parties will have until April 2027 to complete the process, known as devolution.

The land transfer totals two million square kilometres of land and water and Nunavut will have control over the area’s resources, according to the 239-page document.

“It’s high time. It’s a turning point for Nunavummiut,” former Nunavut premier and land claims negotiator Paul Quassa told CBC News.

Mascant is accusing the university of having failed to uphold its own stated codes of conduct, failed to protect Jewish students on campus, failed to publicly denounce and defund the “antisemitic” Concordia Student Union and of having failed to deal with agitators on campus.

A poll released by Leger late last year revealed an unsettling level of misunderstanding of the constitution among the Canadian public. The survey showed that just one-third of Canadians polled said they had read the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Many could not understand the difference between the Charter and the U.S. Declaration of Independence, confusing the language of the two.

For example, 88 per cent of respondents to the Leger poll said that the Charter guarantees the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It does not – this is the language from the Declaration of Independence. The Charter guarantees the rights to life, liberty and security of person, and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.

While disheartening, these revelations should not come as a huge surprise. During the pandemic we saw not just members of the public, but also politicians (and arguably, the courts themselves), confused about the protections afforded by the Charter. The Leger poll also asked Canadians to rank in order which Charter rights need the most protecting. At the top of that list was freedom of expression, selected by 17 per cent of respondents.

Freedom of expression is a widely misunderstood right among the public – and among politicians. One of the greatest misperceptions is who it applies to. The Charter protects citizens from government action. It does not free individuals from consequences for their speech from their employer, from their community or family, or even from social platforms. Some may read this and think that this suggests that the right to freedom of expression is not robust. This is not the case. Although the right does apply only to government action, governments are frequently acting to limit expression. Continue…

Canadians interested in interrogating the government response to COVID-19 recently heard an interesting admission. During a congressional hearing in Washington, D.C. last week, Anthony Fauci, the architect of American COVID policy, admitted that social distancing mandates of “six feet apart” were “likely not based on scientific data” and “sort of just appeared.”

Of course, the same is true for most of other non-pharmaceutical COVID interventions, where there was very little unambiguous science to be followed and policies were essentially pulled out of the air, wrapped in a lab coat and presented as “the science” with a heavy dose of “if you argue, you’re a denier.” These policies included compulsive handwashing, voluntary quarantines, mandatory business closures, mask wearing and school closures.

The inability of schools to manage social distancing was part of the rationale for school closures, as students and teachers could not remain “safely” six feet apart. But Fauci won’t accept any responsibility for the closures or harms to students because of them. In his testimony, he dumped the blame on school districts, rather than public health authorities. According to one House member on the panel, Fauci is still not convinced there was learning loss.

85 Chinese research groups listed by feds as potential threat to national security

The Canadian government has publicly named 85 Chinese research institutions that they believe “may pose” a threat to national security and potentially sensitive research on Tuesday.

The list of research institutions also includes 12 Iranian and six Russian organizations, which the Canadian government believes have ties to “military, national defence or state security entities.”

The list is part of an effort to keep Canadian research and development secured from theft and espionage, particularly in sectors like advanced weaponry, quantum science and aerospace.

“While Canadian-led research is defined by its excellence and collaborative nature, its openness can make it a target for foreign influence, increasing the potential risks for research and development efforts to be misappropriated to the detriment of national security,” said Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne in a statement Tuesday.

While federal officials know that foreign interference is at play, they still don’t have a complete understanding as to what extent.

Google struck a deal with the Canadian government last year that will see the company give $100 million to Canadian media organizations in response to the Online News Act. One expert said the amount is “far less than meets the eye.”

Trudeau’s Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge called the deal a “historic development,” and insisted that the government made “absolutely no concessions” when dealing with Google.

Michael Geist, professor and Canada Research Chair in Internet and eCommerce Law at Ottawa University, disagrees. Geist has criticized the Online News Act since it was first introduced as Bill C-18.

“I think the government was left trying to come up with some way to salvage this deal,” he said, “so they struck a deal that contradicts much of what the government had said it was intending to do with this legislation.”

Google now only has to negotiate with one representative for the collective of journalist organizations in Canada instead of the original plan of Bill C-18, which was for the company to enter into organizations with each news site.

Gerad Slayton was the recently-appointed executive director of the Modesto-based Rainbow Resource Center, a provider of LGBT 'health' services.

The former executive director of a California LGBT organization was among more than a dozen men arrested in a recent sting operation for trying to solicit sex with children.

On January 8, the Modesto Bee reported the arrest of seventeen men, mostly from Stanislaus and Merced counties, as the result of a months-long, multi-agency operation headed by the Turlock Police Department to apprehend people trying to use internet chat rooms to “meet with underage children for the purpose of sexual activity.” The suspects were speaking online to undercover police officers they believed to be children as young as thirteen.

Wealth management company Natixis analyzed 44 nations on four main categories affecting the ability for their residents to retire well in the 2023 Global Retirement Index. Each category has subindices, from which they averaged scores out of 100 to create this ranking.

The categories are:

Health: Per capita spend on healthcare, life expectancy, and non-insured health spend.

Quality of Life: Happiness levels, water and sanitation, air quality, environment, and biodiversity.

Material Well-being: Per capita income, income equality, and employment levels.

Retirement Finances: Government debt, old-age dependency, interest rates, inflation, governance, taxes, and bank non-performing loans.

American bombers struck Houthi installations in Yemen again on Monday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said. It is the second time British bombers have taken part in the operation, now known as ‘Poseidon Archer’.

Royal Air Force (RAF) jets based in Cyprus had been involved in the January 11 attack, while the US used cruise missiles and aircraft from the USS Eisenhower. Since then, the US has carried out six more strikes on its own, reportedly targeting Houthi missiles as they prepared to launch.

US and UK forces “conducted strikes on 8 Houthi targets” in Yemen just before midnight on Monday, CENTCOM said on X (formerly Twitter). “The targets included missile systems and launchers, air defense systems, radars, and deeply buried weapons storage facilities.”

According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out “alongside UK Armed Forces, and with the support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands.”

Major M7.2 earthquake hits China – Fourth powerful quake within the last two days – Link to increased solar activity?

Strong tremors were felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region late this evening. The 7.2 magnitude quake has hit the southern part of China’s Xinjiang. There are no reports of any injury or destruction.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the National Center of Seismology said the quake occurred at a depth of 80 kilometres.

Mild tremors were last felt in Delhi and NCR on January 11 after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan. The epicentre of the quake was 241 kilometres northeast of Kabul. The tremors were felt even in Pakistan.

Earlier today, a massive quake struck a remote and mountainous part of southwestern China, in which 47 people got buried. More than 200 people were “urgently evacuated” from the area, reported State broadcaster CCTV.

The landslide took place at 5:51 am (2151 GMT Sunday) in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan province, state news agency Xinhua reported, citing local authorities.

According to one of the models employed by the federal data centre, the poverty rate is expected to climb to 10.2% in 2023, marking a significant increase from the estimated 7.4% in 2021.

The model suggests a steep trajectory, with a 21.8% rise from 2021 to 2022 and an additional 13.3% increase forecasted for the subsequent year. The official poverty rates for 2022 and 2023 have yet to be officially disclosed.

In a long-awaited decision, the Federal Court has ruled that the measures Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked under the Emergencies Act were unreasonable and unconstitutional.

The decision follows an application for judicial review launched by the Canadian Constitution Foundation, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, and several other applicants in 2022 after the emergency measures were used to end the Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa.

The measures controversially allowed the government to freeze the bank accounts of protesters, conscript tow truck drivers, and arrest people for participating in assemblies the government deemed illegal.

The court declared that the decision to issue the Proclamation and associated Regulations and Order was unreasonable and beyond the scope of the Emergencies Act. Continue…

A private members’ bill seeking to prevent minors from accessing online pornography has been stalled in Parliament as the federal government continues to oppose the legislation.

Liberal-appointed Senator Julie Miville-Dechêne, the author of the Bill S-210, claimed that Canada is lagging behind other countries on this issue, saying she is confused as to the reason for Liberals’ stance on the matter.

“The Liberal government’s opposition to Bill S-210 is puzzling, considering the bill is supported by all other parties in the House,” she said on Thursday. “It also contradicts earlier signals from the government. Most objections to S-210 are based on fear mongering and fallacies, and the issues of privacy and data security can be thoroughly addressed in regulations.”

“The Canadian government is going against the tide of countries and jurisdictions that are legislating to protect children from exposure to online pornography, including the European Union, the U.K., France, Germany, Spain,” added Miville-Dechêne.

A total of 15 Liberal MPs broke ranks with the government and voted in favour of the bill alongside the Conservatives, NDP and Bloc Québécois last month.

The bill, also known as the Protecting Young Persons From Exposure to Pornography Act, had been pushed towards its final stages in the Commons but the Liberals have withheld support.

According to the Heritage Minister’s office, the government plans to continue withholding support for the bill, citing privacy concerns.

Bill S-210 would require commercial websites that offer pornography to require users to verify that they are over the age of 18 years old to have access to the material.

The bill does now specify how this would be reliably accomplished however, leaving plans to make additional regulations in the future open to the government. Continue…

Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) officials warned Alberta that it has become a “very attractive” target for foreign entities wishing to exert their influence due to the province’s economy, resources and large number of ethnic communities.

CSIS shared its findings at a presentation in Edmonton to several provincial political parties and representatives from Elections Alberta on December 9, 2022, according to documents obtained through an access to information request by Postmedia.

Foreign governments use “clandestine or coercive” activities to influence Canadian society to their benefit, warned the presentation.

CSIS found that Alberta is the most sought-after place to enact these activities because of its “resource rich and high-tech economy.”

“Canada and specifically Alberta are very attractive to many hostile foreign states due to our resource rich and developed high-tech economy; geostrategic interest, particularly with respect to energy production and the Arctic; and presence of large diaspora communities,” read the documents. The new grant builds on the Ontario government’s $20.5 million program by the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism to combat 'antisemitism and Islamophobia,' but makes no mention of the nationwide burning of Christian churches.

The Ontario government has pledged 1.7 million taxpayer dollars to “combat the rise in hate crime.”

On January 15, the Ontario government, headed by Progressive Conservative Premier Doug Ford, announced a $1.7 million grant to prevent hate-motivated crimes across the province, as part of a two-year program through the Safer and Vital Communities (SVC) Grant.

“Acts that incite hatred, fear and intimidation have no place in our communities,” Solicitor General Michael Kerzner said in a press release.

“That is why our government is making additional investments to help combat the rise in hate crime and support community-based organizations that are working to address the root causes of hate in all its forms,” he added.

The grant is open to community-based, non-profit organizations and First Nation Band Councils and will give successful applicants $85,000 for each of the two years to combat “hate crime.” Continue…

A federally funded “toolkit” for educators in Canada presents ahistorical and left-wing ideological agenda items instead of solidly based facts to educate teachers about transgenderism.

“The toolkit’s stated purpose is to teach teachers about transgender-identifying students, but its nearly-100 pages are dripping with social justice theory, leftist identity politics and various false claims about biology, history and sex,” Jamie Sarkonak wrote in a Monday opinion column for Canada’s National Post.

The 94-page document, which includes a “land acknowledgement” suggesting the land on which the document was drafted was previously occupied by a smattering of tribal peoples including the “Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Chonnonton Nations,” was created by Western University professor of equity and social justice education Wayne Martino, Ph.D. candidate and teacher Jenny Klassen, and school board strategic business analyst Kenan Omercajic.

The document is the result of a study bankrolled by the Canadian government’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

According to Sarkonak’s analysis, the “toolkit” presents a “comically false framing of biological sex,” overcomplicating the matter and then asserting that the “gender binary,” i.e., the fact there are only men and women, “is a colonial and white supremacist structure rather than a natural and indisputable truth.”

“It is disappointing, indeed, to know that this propagandistic pseudo-scholarship is created by people employed by public institutions, funded by public money and intended for use in public schools,” she wrote. Continue…
