Texas state officials on Wednesday took control of a riverfront public park in Eagle Pass as part of the state’s effort to arrest illegal aliens under Operation Lonestar. Federal officials will be prohibited from the site, where large groups of illegal aliens frequently enter the U.S., as Texas officials argue that they actively encourage unlawful immigration.

Texas has frequently clashed with the Biden Administration over border control, with the administration asserting that it has full control over enforcement. Governor Greg Abbott has vowed to sidestep the president with a number of border control measures, however, including the construction of barriers and using Texas law enforcement personnel to arrest illegal aliens.

This has resulted in a number of competing lawsuits with neither side showing any signs of slowing down.

On Thursday, the stand-off escalated when Texas law enforcement assets and national guard troops seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass.

“The Texas Military Department confirms the TX National Guard has seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass (city property where mass illegal crossings are), and is restricting Border Patrol from accessing the area, saying the Feds ‘perpetuate illegal crossings,'” reported Fox News border correspondent Bill Melugin. “This is the area where Border Patrol has been cutting TX razor wire. Razor wire and fences are now deployed to block the area off from the public and federal government.”

In a statement of their own, the Texas Military Department stated that it has maintained a security presence at Shelby Park since 2021. “The current posture is to prepare for future illegal immigrant surges and to restrict access to organizations that perpetuate illegal immigrant crossings in the park and greater Eagle Pass area,” the statement continued, according to Melugin.

The department did not disclose how long the park will remained close, meaning that planned festivals and other activities scheduled for this spring could be postponed.

“Texas will continue to deploy Texas National Guard soldiers, DPS troopers, and more barriers, utilizing every tool and strategy to respond to President Biden’s ongoing border crisis,” Renae Eze, a spokesperson for Texas Governor Greg Abbott, said in a statement to the New York Post.

The findings mean that 59% of $1.7 billion in defense gear that the U.S. has provided Ukraine and was directed to guard against misuse or theft remained “delinquent,” the report by the Defense Department’s office of the inspector-general, the watchdog body for the Pentagon, said.

"Foreign ownership of United States lands is a serious problem that has rightfully sparked unease among farmers, ranchers and foresters across the country," said Chavez-DeRemer.

In addition to the farmland, Chen also owns various urban properties throughout America, including the Vanderbilt mansion in Manhattan and the Seely Mudd Estate near Los Angeles. He also owns a 150,000 sqft. research facility at Caltech - the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute for Neuroscience.

AfD Bundestag member René Springer has promised to deport foreigners from Germany “by the millions” as his party just hit a new high in approval polls.

Springer made the comments in a post on X in response to a media narrative that the AfD has a secret plan to expel migrants.

Starting January 26th, users who activate any of the 17 Assistant features being removed will be notified that it’s being discontinued, with most features departing for good on February 26th, according to 9to5Google. This news comes less than a day after Google announced it was laying off around a thousand employees, some of whom worked on Google Assistant.

Discord is laying off 17 percent of its staff, a move that CEO Jason Citron said is meant to “sharpen our focus and improve the way we work together to bring more agility to our organization.”

The cuts were announced today to employees in an all-hands meeting and internal memo I’ve obtained. They’ll impact 170 people across various departments.

The United Nations’ European headquarters in Geneva, known as The Palace of Nations, will remain closed until 12 January due to a liquidity crisis within the organisation. The decision has been taken to economise heating, electricity and maintenance costs.

Surging energy prices have strained the UN’s budget, necessitating the palace’s closure from 20 December to 12 January. This news was confirmed on Friday by UN spokesperson Alessandra Vellucci according to Swiss radio station SRF. Swiss broadcaster RTS had previously hinted at a temporary closure until 7 January.

However, the organisation continues to function with employees working remotely. Staff members, essential to onsite operations, retain access to the building. One of the wings will reopen for upcoming conferences.

The UN is grappling with cash flow problems caused in part by around fifty countries failing to fulfil their contribution payments, including the United States.

Constructed between 1929 and 1936, The Palace of Nations has served as the UN’s European base since 1966. Located in a prestigious park in Geneva, it houses numerous global governing bodies focusing on fields such as human rights, humanitarian aid, disarmament, economics, development, science and technology.
