Pornography giant Pornhub will be cutting off access to users in Montana ahead of the implementation of a state law that requires age verification for access to sites with explicit content.

The law, which takes effect on January 1, is intended to keep children from being exposed to pornography by mandating sites with explicit sites verify the age of their visitors. Other states, like Utah and Virginia, have passed similar legislation, leading Pornhub to block access in those states over the law.

“While safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk,” Pornhub said in a statement, according to Scripps News Helena.

The law, SB 544, says a commercial entity that “knowingly and intentionally publishes or distributes material harmful to minors on the internet from a website that contains a substantial portion of the material must be held liable if the entity fails to perform reasonable age verification methods to verify the age of individuals attempting to access the material.”

The text notes that “pornography is creating a public health crisis and having a corroding influence on minors” and that “pornography may also impact brain development and functioning, contribute to emotional and medical illnesses, shape deviant sexual arousal, and lead to difficulty in forming or maintaining positive, intimate relationships, as well as promoting problematic or harmful sexual behaviors and addiction.”

It passed 84-13 in the state House and 47-3 in the state Senate before being signed by Governor Greg Gianforte (R-MT) in May.

Other state lawmakers, like Republicans in Tennessee, are looking to bring forth similar legislation in the coming year. Earlier this month, Rep. Patsy Hazlewood introduced the “Protect Tennessee Minors Act,” which would require online pornography distributors to put in place age verification measures to ensure that children are unable to access the explicit content.

Pornhub has been the target of a series of undercover investigations by Sound Investigations, which has recorded leadership at the company discussing strategies and the impacts of porn. In one recently released undercover video, a manager for the parent company of Pornhub admitted that pornography is unhealthy, addictive, and destructive.

“I definitely think porn addiction is definitely a thing, that’s for sure,” Mike Farley, a Senior Product Manager at Aylo said in the footage. “I don’t think it’s a positive thing in general.”

Fire hits Russian nuclear-powered ship

A fire broke out on a Russian nuclear-powered general cargo ship Sevmorput in the northern Russian port of Murmansk but was quickly extinguished by firefighters, Russian state officials said.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred in one of the cabins of the vessel and affected an area of some 30 sq m, the regional branch of Russia’s emergency ministry said in a statement.

The fire was put out about an hour after the initial report. Atomflot, which operates the 34,600 dwt ship, and is part of the state nuclear company Rosatom, said that there was no threat to crucial support systems or to the reactor plant.

Built by Zaliv in Ukraine in 1988 and upgraded some decade ago, the Sevmorput made headlines earlier this year as one of the ships suspected of possible involvement in damage to the Balticonnector gas pipeline linking Finland and Estonia.

Transgender activist Morgane Oger has been given Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal after defunding the country’s oldest rape shelter because they would not allow biological men who identify as women to stay there.

Oger, a man who lives as a woman, was given the award by Canadian Governor-General Mary Simon on December 7.

Canada said that Oger is a “champion of diversity” thus deserving of the honor.

The award citation said that Oger “forged alliances across party lines that propelled changes to provincial and federal legislation protecting individuals against discrimination based on gender identity or expression.”

“Her courage, vision and perseverance have helped redefine the fundamental issue of equality and have advanced inclusiveness for gender-diverse Canadians,” the citation continued.

San Diego-Bound Cargo Ship Hauling Lithium Batteries Reports Fire

A fire was reported on a 410-foot cargo ship carrying lithium-ion batteries from Vietnam. The US Coast Guard is assisting the vessel diverted to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, on Friday.

Around 0440 local time Thursday, the 17th Coast Guard District Command Center in Juneau received a report from "Genius Star XI" about a fire onboard. The distress call was made about 225 miles (362 kilometers) southwest of Dutch Harbor.

The Coast Guard dispatched a Lockheed HC-130 from Air Station Kodiak and Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley to assist the vessel. It noted that a "safety zone" will be erected around the ship "carrying lithium-ion batteries." Continue…

Saskatchewan farmers are global leaders in reducing emissions from crop production

Saskatchewan is leading the way in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from crop production, according to a new study by the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS).

The study, which examined the carbon footprint of canola, wheat, lentils and field peas, found that the province’s farmers have adopted practices that vastly enhance soil carbon sequestration.

Analysts compared the carbon intensity of each crop per tonne of output in Saskatchewan with other major producing regions in Canada and around the world.

The results showed that Saskatchewan’s emissions were significantly lower than the global weighted average for all four crops, and also lower than the Canadian average for three of them.

For example, Saskatchewan’s canola production had 67% lower emissions than the global weighted average, and 32% lower than the Canadian average. Continue…

“On Dec. 31 at 6:30am (Sanaa time) the container ship MAERSK HANGZHOU issued a second distress call in less than 24 hours reporting being under attack by four Iranian-backed Houthi small boats. The small boats, originating from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, fired crew served and small arms weapons at the MAERSK HANGZHOU, getting to within 20 meters of the vessel, and attempted to board the vessel. The queen announced during her New Year’s speech that she would abdicate on Jan. 14th, which is the 52nd anniversary of her own accession to the throne at age 31 following the death of her father, King Frederik IX.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen confirmed the decision in a news release that paid tribute to the 83-year-old monarch, offering a “heartfelt thank you to Her Majesty the Queen for her lifelong dedication and tireless efforts for the Kingdom.”

The 6-foot-tall (1.82-meters-tall), chain-smoking Margrethe has been one of the most popular public figures in Denmark. She often walked the streets of Copenhagen virtually unescorted and won the admiration of Danes for her warm manners and for her talents as a linguist and designer.

A keen skier, she was a member of a Danish women’s air force unit as a princess, taking part in judo courses and endurance tests in the snow. Margrethe remained tough even as she grew older. In 2011, at age 70, she visited Danish troops in southern Afghanistan wearing a military jumpsuit.

As monarch, she crisscrossed the country and regularly visited Greenland and the Faeroe Islands, the two semi-independent territories which are part of the Danish Realm, and was met everywhere by cheering crowds.

Ukrainian troops have shelled the Russian city of Donetsk, local authorities said in the early hours of Monday, urging residents to seek shelter.

The head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, released a statement around 1 am local time, saying that at least seven people were injured. He added that Ukraine had used multiple rocket launchers to strike the city.

Unverified videos posted to social media show several explosions. Residents reported hearing loud blasts shortly after midnight.

It noted that a high-precision missile strike on the building formerly housing the Kharkov Palace Hotel eliminated “representatives of the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were directly involved in the planning and execution of the terrorist attack in Belgorod.”

The building also housed up to 200 foreign mercenaries who were gearing up for “terrorist raids” into Russian territory, officials added.

A new study reports that brain function can be impaired for 18 months after a person has recovered from COVID-19, especially if the individual was hospitalized. However, COVID-induced cognitive impairment is no more severe than impairment due to other diseases causing hospitalization.

The prospective cohort study, published in JAMA Network Open, suggests that the brain health of COVID-19 patients who were ill enough to go to the hospital suffered long-lasting neurological damage that included new psychiatric diagnoses, such as anxiety and depression, fatigue, and sleep issues. Previous studies showed these symptoms occurred among 12 percent to 50 percent of individuals one year after infection. Consistent with these findings, this study found that about 38 percent of study participants still had cognitive symptoms at the 18-month follow-up.

The results offer insight into long-COVID symptoms and how the virus can affect the brain over time. Although fewer people are being hospitalized for COVID-19, just over 20,000 Americans were hospitalized for the virus during the last week of December.

Just as 2024 begins, Japan is rocked by a powerful earthquake, triggering a major tsunami warning and evacuation orders for areas in the western parts of the Pacific island country.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles) and 42 kilometers (26 miles) northeast of Anamizu in Ishikawa prefecture around 1610 local time.

The 7.5 magnitude was weaker than the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan in 2011, causing a tsunami and a nuclear power plant meltdown and killing thousands. Initial reports say tsunami waves of around 1.2 meters (3.9 feet) were recorded in the city of Wajima in Ishikawa prefecture.

An official from Japan’s Nuclear Regulatory Agency told The New York Times that radioactive monitoring stations at the Shika nuclear power plant in Ishikawa show no irregularities. Several power plants in the region have been shuttered as authorities check on nuclear reactors.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken used emergency authority to approve the sale of $147.5 million of 155 mm artillery shells to Israel on Saturday, bypassing the standard congressional review for arms sales for the second time since the start of the war on Gaza.

A State Department spokesman said on Friday that "given the urgency of Israel’s defensive needs, the secretary notified Congress that he had exercised his delegated authority to determine an emergency existed necessitating the immediate approval of the transfer."

Earlier this month, Blinken used the same emergency process to approve the sale of 14,000 tank shells, worth more than $106 million, to Israel. The emergency sale of artillery shells comes as Israel’s military intensifies its bombing campaign in Gaza.

Earlier this week, on Christmas Eve, Israeli forces bombed the Meghazi camp, killing 86 Palestinians in one strike. Israeli government spokesperson Eylon Levy excused the death toll by telling Sky News the army had used an "incorrect munition."

But he refused to apologize for the loss of life and did not say what type of munition was used, despite being pressed several times by Sky News presenter Niall Paterson.

Israel has regularly used 2,000 lb US-made bombs to target residential neighborhoods in Gaza.

A new Nanos poll has revealed that over half of Canadians say their personal finances are worse off today than they were in 2015, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau first took office.

In 2015, Trudeau ran on an election campaign promise to “help the middle class and those aspiring to join it.”

However in 2023, with the high cost of living, inflation and interest-rate hikes, millions of indebted Canadians said that they will be voting with these issues being their top priority.

The polls saw 53% of respondents saying that their personal finances are worse now than they were eight years ago.

The poll, conducted by Nanos Research on behalf of Bloomberg News, found that only 24% of respondents said that they were better off financially today than in 2015, while the remaining 21% said that there had been no change in their finances.

A $500-million dollar class-action lawsuit filed by two former migrant farm workers alleges the government of Canada’s foreign farm worker program is “racist.”

In the 1950s, Canadian government officials briefly considered making migrant farm workers work for a specific employer, however they later rejected the notion because they said it would be akin to slavery.

“It would be contrary to the whole Canadian belief in freedom of the individual,” said then-immigration minister Walter Harris.

However in 1966, the government allowed guaranteed work permits for particular employers, allowing for what would become known as “tied employment.”

Prior to the change, the majority of workers came from Europe. Later, migrant workers began coming predominantly from the Caribbean.

Now a $500-million class-action lawsuit has been filed against the federal government on behalf of migrant farm workers who have been working in Canada for the last 15 years. “Tied employment” is among the claims.

“This protected anchorage … will allow the vessel to remain stable, minimizing risk of any re-flash of the fire as we continue our response,” Capt. Chris Culpepper said in the press release, which said an investigation into the fire’s origins will begin once response efforts wrap up.

Southern California was hit with a magnitude 4.1 earthquake on New Year’s Day.

According to seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones, the California quake and Japan’s temblor are completely unrelated.

“Completely unrelated to Japan, SoCal just had a M4.1 offshore from Palos Verdes. Not near any known fault. Way too small to even talk about tsunamis. Japan’s M7.5 is 100,000 times bigger than a M4.1,” Dr. Lucy Jones said on X.

The father’s statement blamed himself for meeting the accused and struggled with life and his religion following the series of assaults on his child.

The victim wrote they were sad and confused following the acts by the accused and were told not to tell anyone, as the accused would go to jail if they did.

The victim also feared if they told anyone that the accused would come to their home and harm them and their family.

victim’s statement described that they “felt pain in their heart”, and that their “heart turned black” after being shown pornographic material, and “it didn’t feel right.”

28 letters of reference for the accused stated that he is a “good man”, “strong in faith”, a “good friend”, and some pledged they would still trust the accused with their children (these 28 letters came from top Healthcare Executives in Alberta and British Columbia)

St. Albert has joined Edmonton in the list of jurisdictions facing criticism for overpromising on the capabilities of expensive electric bus fleets.

The city’s electric buses have fallen short of their promised lifespan and performance, falling from what was initially thought to be 18 years to an expected lifespan of 12 years – 33% less than predicted.

“It’s disappointing that [the buses] didn’t live up to the hype,” said Coun. Wes Brodhead, according to the St. Albert Gazette.

In 2017, St. Albert distinguished itself as the first Canadian municipality to add long-range electric buses to its public transport system. It debuted three such buses in the spring and expanded the fleet by four more in 2018. The city received $2.1 million in funding from provincial and federal sources to help purchase the buses.

A Covid-19 vaccine mandate for city employees has led to a quarter-million-dollar lawsuit between a former Fredericton firefighter and his ex-employer.

Gregory Billings, who resigned from his position as captain of the New Brunswick city’s fire prevention division after 21 years of service, is suing the city for $280,000 in compensation and damages.

He claims he was misled by city human resources staff into believing he would lose his severance and pension if he was terminated for refusing to comply with the vaccine policy.

Instead of waiting to be terminated, Billings claims he was led to believe that resigning from his position would lead to a better outcome and his entitled benefits.

The lawsuit, filed on Dec. 14, also accuses the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1053, Billings’s former union, of failing its duty to provide a member with proper representations by not filing a grievance on his behalf.

“The plaintiff relied on the misrepresentations of the City of Fredericton that retirement was being offered to him and suffered damages as a result through loss of his severance pay and loss of a portion of his pension,” writes lawyers.

The city and the union have not yet filed statements of defence and declined to comment on the matter. The allegations have not been proven in court.

Canada’s new vaccine injury support program surpasses $11.2 million in payouts; new figures show

A year and a half after the Covid-19 vaccines rolled out in Canada, the country launched its first-ever vaccine injury support program in June 2021. Since then, over two thousand Canadians have applied, with $11,236,314 being paid out in vaccine injury compensation as of December 2023.

The Vaccine Injury Support Program (VISP) is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada but is oddly overseen by a private company called RCGT Consulting Inc. Due to the company's private nature, access to more in depth information is restricted.

Nonetheless, the VISP website provides some statistical information, updated every six months. The December 2023 update reveals that 2,233 claims have been received. Of these, 1,825 are deemed admissible, with only 138 claims approved for compensation so far. Over the past year, claims have risen from 1,299 to 2,233.

In order to qualify for compensation your vaccine injury must be “A serious and permanent injury” and “defined as a severe, life-threatening or life-altering injury that may require in-person hospitalization, or a prolongation of existing hospitalization, and results in persistent or significant disability or incapacity, or where the outcome is a congenital malformation or death.”

The maximum lump sum compensation if you are deemed vaccine injured is $284,000. There are also other payouts provided, which relate to reoccurring loss of income, medical expenses, medical devices, and personal support workers.

According to the Government of Canada's website, there have been over 57,000 adverse event reports related to the Covid-19 vaccines, with 11,231 of those reports being serious. It is not known how many vaccine injury reports to the VISP are Covid-19 vaccine-related as of now, but a June 2022 report from the Public Health Agency said that at that time, 99% were related to the Covid-19 vaccines.

The next update from the VISP is expected in June 2024.

Senators and members of Parliament will no longer need to swear an oath of allegiance to King Charles III may no longer be a requirement for MPs and senators if a Liberal MP’s private member’s bill passes.

New Brunswick Liberal MP René Arsenault introduced Bill C-347 which, if passed, would end the tradition of swearing allegiance to the reigning monarch and instead would offer the option to swear an “oath to office.”

While Canadian monarchists disagree with the bill, it’s being welcomed by Canada’s republicans, who feel the procedure is outdated.

Under Section 128 of the Constitution, every newly elected or appointed parliamentarian must swear that they will be faithful and bear true allegiance” to the reigning monarch, which includes a line that the actual name will change from “time to time.”

A member cannot legally take his or her seat in Parliament until after they have taken the oath to the sovereign, under Canada’s constitution.

The oath under the new bill would have members state that they will carry out their duties “in the best interest of Canada while upholding its Constitution.”

Canada’s national auto dealer association is warning that without addressing issues with charging infrastructure and financial incentives aren’t fixed, the federal plan to mandate EV sales could backfire.

Last month, Liberal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault unveiled Ottawa’s ambitious plan to completely phase out the sale of new gas and diesel cars by the year 2035 within Canada.

Canadian Automobile Dealers Association lead economist Charles Bernard told True North that the industry is excited about electrification but disagreement remains about the role government should play in the matter.

“This is where we are in disagreement with the government, they tend to believe that because EVs will be eventually be the sole purchase option, well (manufacturers) will produce the amount needed and consumers will go the dealerships and buy them,” said Bernard.

According to Bernard, the government’s imagined outcome likely won’t pan out if a sustainable vision for demand and supply aren’t taken into account. Consumers still have many worries about EVs, including their high costs, lack of range and sparse charging infrastructure.

“To remove or reduce these worries – which I like to call behavioral and financial barriers – governments need to create the proper environment for consumers to think that is essentially logical, and financially sustainable, to go along with the policy and purchase an EV,” explained Bernard.

If these aspects are not taken into account, every party involved – including policy makers, auto dealers and manufacturers – would face failure.

On October 27, 2023, Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) MP Colin Carrie of Oshawa, Ontario, sent a series of questions to the nation’s health agency in response to a media report that the regulator was aware that SV40 was present in the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID jab. SV40 is a monkey-linked DNA sequence known to cause cancer when it was used in old polio vaccines.

The original media report about SV40 came from The Epoch Times, which LifeSiteNews later reported on. It was revealed that the vaccine maker did not originally disclose to Health Canada that SV40 was present in the jabs.

Canadian couriers fired for refusing COVID vaccine were discriminated against, arbitrator rules

Arbitrator Nicholas Glass ruled in late December that employees of courier giant Purolator who lost wages for refusing to submit to the company's vaccine mandate were improperly treated and thus owed compensation.

A Canadian arbitrator has ruled members of a local union who worked for courier giant Purolator, and then lost their jobs because they chose to not get the COVID shots, must receive compensation as the mandates were not “valid.”

On January 10, 2022, members of Teamsters Local Union No. 31 in Prince George, British Columbia, including 8 hourly employees and 14 owner-operators, filed many grievances against Purolator concerning its COVID jab policy. This policy mandated employees be jabbed or face discipline. Multiple hearings were then held from September 2022 until September 2023.

The union, on behalf of its grievors, argued that the COVID jabs efficacy was diminished after the Omicron variant became prevalent in the early weeks of 2022, and the policy was not needed.

Arbitrator Nicholas Glass, as per a 196-page ruling made on December 14, 2023, stated that “the grievances complained that the grievors were improperly terminated or placed on involuntary unpaid leaves of absence.”

Glass ruled that the “argument that unvaccinated workers once infected were more infectious than vaccinated workers once infected” was “inconclusive” as it “did not amount to a valid reason for the mandate.”

As per the ruling, Purolator has been ordered to give compensation to its hourly employees who did not get the COVID shots, which includes lost benefits and wages, between July 1, 2022, and May 1, 2023.

Purolator has also been ordered to give compensation to owner-operators beginning from the first date they lost income.

On September 15, 2021, Purolator, like many Canadian companies around that time, mandated that its workers get the COVID shot to be allowed to its workplaces. Workers were given until December 25, 2021, to comply, with the full policy coming into force on January 10, 2022.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced Justin Trudeau is staying with his family in Jamaica “at no cost,” despite a prior claim he would be covering the expenses himself.

The Trudeau family spent the holidays in sunny Jamaica, set to return to Ottawa Thursday, with officials refusing to disclose where the prime minister would be staying, per CTV News.

The PMO had initially said Trudeau was paying for the trip with his estranged wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and their three children out of his own pocket, but on Wednesday released a statement claiming accommodations are actually provided by “family friends.”

The Trudeaus are vacationing in Jamaica “at no cost at a location owned by family friends,” the statement said, noting the federal ethics commissioner was consulted "on these details prior to the travel to ensure that the rules were followed."

Trudeau’s office insisted the prime minister had consulted with the ethics commissioner before his December 26 departure and decided the Trudeaus would pay for the trip with their own money, and would “reimburse” Canadians for the cost of travel on the government plane.

The PMO statement on Wednesday confirmed that despite the change in his story, Trudeau “continues to reimburse the equivalent of a commercial airline ticket for his personal travel and that of his family.”

Meanwhile, the Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner said details of Trudeau’s accommodation will not be disclosed due to privacy requirements surrounding the conflict-of-interest rules.

"The office has a role only in ensuring that the gift provisions of the act and code are observed," spokesperson Jocelyne Brisebois said in a written statement Wednesday, per CTV. "Note that there is an exception in the act that allows a public officer holder to accept gifts or other advantages given by a relative or friend and any such gifts do not require public disclosure."

Last year the Trudeaus enjoyed a family trip in Jamaica as well, staying at the luxury estate of family friend Peter Green, who made a substantial donation to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, per CBC. The PMO declined to comment on whether the Trudeaus paid to stay on the property or not.

In 2016 Trudeau earned an ethics violation when he took his family to Aga Khan's private island in the Bahamas over the holidays. Aga Khan is an old friend of Trudeau’s father.

According to the second tranche of documents obtained by The Gateway Pundit and reviewed by this reporter, one Epstein victim, a minor teen dubbed “Jane Doe 3,” said she was trafficked to “prominent American politicians” to “obtain potential blackmail information.”

“Epstein also sexually trafficked the then-minor Jane Doe, making her available for sex to politically-connected and financially-powerful people. South Korea orders island evacuation over ‘provocation’

The move comes amid reports of a major artillery barrage by the North near the countries' borders

South Korea has ordered civilians on an island near the border with North Korea to evacuate to shelters, after accusing Pyongyang of firing off hundreds of artillery shells as part of a military “provocation.”

The evacuation order was issued twice on Friday afternoon by local authorities, Yonhap News reported, noting that it came amid “apparent signs of a military provocation by North Korea.”

“We announced the evacuation after receiving a call from a military unit saying it was carrying out a maritime strike on Yeongpyeong Island as it has a situation with a North Korean provocation,” an unnamed official was quoted as saying by Yonhap.

Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said later that North Korea launched around 200 artillery shells off its west coast on Friday morning.
