D'Souza Was Jailed for $20K, Bankman-Fried Gets Off Despite $100M in Alleged Illegal Campaign Contributions

The Department of Justice announced Friday that it was would not seek a second trial for FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried regarding $100 million in alleged illegal campaign contributions.

That’s quite a contrast to the treatment conservative filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza received in 2014 when he was indicted and sent to prison for illegal campaign donations totaling $20,000.

The DOJ’s Bankman-Fried indictment accused him of “having directed at least 300 illegal campaign donations, totaling up to $100 million, to both Democrats and Republicans through two other unnamed FTX executives who acted as ‘straw donors’ to hide the true source of the funds,” NBC News reported in February 2023.

Count 8 of the indictment spelled out the violations involved, in part, to candidates for federal office “in the names of other persons.”

Bankman-Fried also tried to hide the fact the money was coming from the FTX corporation by giving it through company executives, another violation of the law.

Corporations cannot donate to federal candidates or political action committees supporting them.

Manhattan-based U.S. Attorney Damian Williams announced his decision not to pursue the campaign violations against Bankman-Fried in a letter filed in federal court the Friday before New Year’s weekend.

The letter read, in part, given “the strong public interest in a prompt resolution of this matter, the Government intends to proceed to sentencing on the counts for which the defendant was convicted at trial.”

Bankman-Fried was convicted in November of seven fraud and conspiracy-related charges stemming from his leadership of the now defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

As CBDCs Roll-Out, Elite-Backed Digital Payment Systems Vie to Build the “Global Payment Standard”

As Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilots proliferate, a myriad of elite-gilded and blockchain-powered digital payment networks are vying for their technologies and payment systems to be incorporated in the developing digital currency infrastructures of tomorrow. Their end game? A digital financial grid prime for abuse.

“If ideas are borderless, opportunities should be too,” A-list actor Idris Elba recently exclaimed in a video for cryptocurrency player Stellar’s “Real World” campaign.

In the elaborate promotional video featuring Elba, traditional currencies are portrayed as unreliable and especially detrimental to marginalized people. An immigrant, working class-coded woman in the video asks, “I can send money to my family, but how much will arrive?” Meanwhile, an older man counting his paper monies in the video says “[t]he more I save, the more I feel unsafe.”

Presenting itself as the solution to such problems, the Stellar network promises to make opportunities “borderless,” helping the video’s characters to save and send money to others without the traditional financial system’s various obstacles.

Indeed, Stellar’s “Real World” campaign portrays the Stellar protocol as an agent for dignified opportunities, making the financial system work for all. And, generally, many cryptocurrency and bitcoin enthusiasts put stock in such networks because they see them as a medium that ensures financial freedom. But Stellar, like other altruistic-branded financial organizations in the crypto space, is getting involved in other projects that suggest “financial inclusion,” as most would understand it, isn’t their biggest priority. A prime example is Stellar’s intense interest in facilitating the rise of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), which are a programmable, central bank-issued digital version of a country’s fiat currency.

While CBDC proponents tout them as fast, convenient, and ideal for cheaper international transactions, Unlimited Hangout has previously elaborated on CBDCs’ propensity to undermine anonymity, foster surveillance and even, in terms of programmability, be used to enforce policies or otherwise be weaponized to manipulate or control peoples’ financial activities and behavior. If rolled out on a wider scale and introduced in tandem with other tools, like Digital IDs, UH contributor Iain Davis and UH contributing editor Whitney Webb (among others) have posited that CBDCs could “be used to monitor our whereabouts, limit our freedom of movement and control our access to money, goods and services.”

With nation states fearing that falling behind in digital currencies could compromise their competitiveness or sovereignty, the CBDC race feeds itself, thus bypassing critical public discussions around CBDCs’ potential societal harms. As per the Atlantic Council’s CBDC tracker, 130 countries representing 98 percent of the world’s GDP are now exploring a CBDC. Juniper Research recently estimated that the global value of CBDCs will jump from around $100 million today to $213 billion by 2030.

Naturally, as interest in CBDCs proliferates, so have CBDC pilots involving both the public and private sectors. In the process, a myriad of elite-gilded and blockchain-powered digital payment networks and organizations, including Stellar, Ethereum, Ripple and/or the people and forces behind them, are vying for their technologies and payment systems to be incorporated into the developing digital currency infrastructures of tomorrow.

Imran Awan, 37, was arrested on Monday by FBI agents and U.S. Capitol Police at Dulles International Airport trying to fly to Lahore, Pakistan.

Awan was arraigned in U.S. District Court on Tuesday with one count of bank fraud, a federal offense, and he pleaded not guilty.

Officials said Awan and his wife, Hina Alvi, defrauded the Congressional Federal Credit Union for $165,000 by lying on a home equity loan application, according to federal court documents.

Awan worked as an information technology staffer for Wasserman Schultz, a former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. David Damron, a spokesman for her office, said he was fired Tuesday.

The latest accusation claimed that Gay lifted nearly half a page of material verbatim from David Cannon’s 1999 book “Race Redistricting and Representation: The Unintended Consequences of Black Majority Districts” for her own 2001 article, the complaint obtained by the Washington Free Beacon stated.

Cannon, however, denied that Gay’s use of his work was plagiarism.

“I am not at all concerned about the passages,” he told the Washington Free Beacon.

“Both Dr. Gay and I are defining basic terms such as Section 2 and Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, covered jurisdictions, and bailout. Good definitions of these terms would have to use similar language or they would not be accurate!” he insisted.

Here’s how we got here:

Harvard first faced calls to fire Gay after she stood by the more than 30 Harvard student groups that published a letter claiming they held Israel “entirely responsible” for Hamas’ Oct. 7 terrorist attacks.

Gay faced further calls to step down after disastrous House testimony on antisemitism, in which the embattled president told Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) that calls for genocide against the Jews would only violate Harvard’s rules depending on their “context.”

Harvard announced Gay would remain president despite the school losing a reported $1 billion in donations.

Journalists Christopher Rufo and Chris Brunet revealed that the embattled president plagiarized sections of her doctoral thesis, Harvard had previously covered up its own probe and threatened The Post when it looked into plagiarism allegations against Gay.

Former Professor Carol Swain, whose work Gay is accused of plagiarizing, said Harvard lacks the courage to fire “its first black president.” She added that Gay is “getting a free pass.”

Billionaire Bill Ackman claims that Harvard won’t fire her because it would look like it was “kowtowing” to him.

Four doxxing trucks are parked outside Gay’s home, calling her “the best friend Hamas ever had.”

The embattled prez was hit with six new plagiarism allegations on Monday, January 1, 2024.

She was set to stepped down the following day.

The complaint also included additional flags from Gay’s dissertation, which already received three corrections due to “instances of inadequate citation.”

The new charges were brought by the same anonymous professor who previously accused Gay of plagiarism to The Post.

The Harvard Crimson backed Gay over the weekend — arguing that she may have plagiarized in the past, but should not have to step down from her post.

“To be clear, sloppiness of this kind is unbefitting of a Harvard president,” the article said of the allegations about Gay’s academic work.

“A sober-minded assessment of the plagiarism charges indicates that Gay’s behavior constitutes plagiarism, but since the errors do not appear intentional, they do not warrant her resignation,” the editorial board hedged.

• Georgia was called by 11,779 votes.

• Fulton County, Georgia, the most populous county in the state, has no digital record of all in person votes cast in its original results.

• Not a single ballot purportedly cast during early in-person voting was witnessed to and signed off by poll managers, as required by Georgia election rules. Seals were broken and memory cards removed from tabulators for the results of these 315,000 votes, which were printed out on different machines than the ones that tabulated them. This prevented the reconciliation of how many votes were cast3 on each machine.

• The ballot images of these votes, along with the rest of in-person ballots cast on Election Day, were destroyed.

• The vote in Georgia was counted three times: the original machine count, a statewide hand recount, and a second machine count. Each time the state, and Fulton County, reported three different results.

• Fulton County did not count the same ballots during the original count and the machine recount. There are 19,541 distinct ballots that appear in one machine count but not the other.4

• Thousands of fraudulent “presidential only” ballots were injected into the second machine count, with huge margins favoring Joe Biden. Ballots that are blank5 except for the presidential contest were counted in batches together, with the pattern appearing in at least eight counties, including Fulton. This means Georgia did not have the votes to justify its original Election “results.”

•Fulton County does not know “how many voters cast votes” and its “lack of basic accounting controls make it impossible to determine who really won” in 2020, according to Philip Stark, a University of California, Berkeley professor who invented risk-limiting audits. Stark noted, “The electronic records of the election are not intact.”13

• 376,863 ballot images are missing from the first machine count, which includes all in-person votes in Fulton County.14

•None of the 315,000 votes cast during early voting in Fulton County were witnessed to and signedby the poll manager and two poll workers, as required by state election rules. The closing tapes for these votes are all unsigned, showed15 more tabulated votes than the tabulators had recorded as scanning in their protective counters, and recorded improbably low percentages for President Trump. For example, President Trump received only 0.9 percent, 2.4 percent, 3.7 percent from some of the tabulators, as if he was a third party candidate, or in a third world country. The anomalies indicate ballots were not scanned on the tabulators that printed the closing tapes, making the closing tapes fraudulent.

• Tabulators used in Fulton County during early voting had their seals broken, and memory cards were reprogrammed and inserted into different scanners to count absentee ballots, in violation of election rules. This made it impossible to

reconcile the true number of votes tabulated on the machines from the start of the Election to the end of counting.16

•235,000 absentee ballots were requested and accepted too early, prior to the lawful date 180 days before the 2020 Election, which was May 6, 2020. These votes should have never been counted in the 2020 Election.17
