Why A Continuing Resolution Puts America on a Suboptimal Path

My fellow Americans, do you think that we should keep Pelosi-Biden-Schumer spending together with the same policies that have given us inflation, wide open borders, energy dependency, woke military, and woke education, all while paying for Ukraine’s war machine, government, and pensions?

Continuing the current spending levels and policies is called a “Continuing Resolution” (CR). Every time a CR is used to bypass the required budget process, the profligacy of Congress is displayed with a spending spree that makes a drunken sailor look responsible. Our spending deficit persists and increases, while our national debt grows to tottering heights.

But, that’s the plan of some of my colleagues in Congress. Instead of pushing to pass individual spending bills that might give us a chance to break the cycle of deficit spending and exploding national debt, they advocate the same economic death spiral that Congress—both parties—have given us for many years.

And, where does that leave us? Within a few years our interest expense will be more than our military spending.

Think about the proposal we are facing: spending at levels that exceed our federal revenue by almost $2 trillion—not including our interest charges; spending tens of billions more for Ukraine—without an exit strategy; spending billions more to accelerate the processing of the millions of illegal aliens crossing our southern border; and, billions to replenish our emergency fund.

Right now, there are thousands of illegal aliens crossing into America every day, bringing fentanyl and other deadly drugs. Human smuggling and sex trafficking is being aided and abetted by the Biden logistic team. And, our colleagues will provide billions to them. For what purpose? To stem the flow, to disincentivize the pipeline of people coming illegally into the U.S.? …

Speaker of the House Anthony Rota recognized Yaroslav Hunka, 98, for his service in the 'First Division' of the Ukrainian National Army before immigrating to Canada.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed him as an honoured guest as part of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Canada.

"We have with us in the Chamber today a Ukrainian-Canadian veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian Independence against the Russians and continues to support the troops today," said Rota.

All House parties, Senate groups and foreign dignitaries gave Hunka a standing ovation for his efforts against the Russians then and now.

However, Canada's leading military affairs reporter, David Pugliese, wrote a 2020 article that says no such 'First Division' existed during WWII.

Members of the division served Adolf Hitler's 14th Waffen SS Division Galicia — a designated criminal organization, according to the Nuremberg war crimes tribunal, reported military journal esprit de corps.

As many as 2,000 Waffen SS soldiers of Ukrainian heritage, including Hunka, supposedly changed their identities and masqueraded as "refugees" before capture to seek refuge in Canada in the 1950s.

As many as 30,000 Ukrainian refugees fled Europe for Canada at the time.

Before members of the unit surrendered to Allied forces, they hid their SS connection in the final days of the war by renaming themselves the First Division Ukrainian National Army.

Pugliese said that the Ukrainians had voluntarily served the Nazi war machine and "eagerly signed up" to join the Waffen SS.

Morning Consult Poll: Trump’s Favorability Continues to Rise

Former President Donald Trump remains not only the dominant frontrunner in the Republican primary race, but he also maintains the status as the most favorable candidate.

This week’s Morning Consult survey, released this week, found 80 percent of potential Republican primary voters viewing Trump favorably, compared to 19 percent who do not. Notably, Trump’s unfavorable percentage is actually lower than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s, as 21 percent have an unfavorable view of the presidential hopeful. Sixty-seven percent view DeSantis favorably, while nine percent have heard of him but have no opinion.

Trump's Role in History - and Why He Must Be Reelected

I’ll never forgot Donald Trump’s entry into the 2016 Republican presidential primary. At long last, we were nearing the end of two painful terms under the charlatan Barack Obama – who’d been our most radical president despite his fraudulent veneer of moderation – and the likely Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton, was campaigning to push our country even further left. She had to be defeated. I thought Republicans should nominate a thoughtful, articulate conservative – perhaps Carly Fiorina (remember her?) . . . or Marco Rubio . . . or Ted Cruz (my own sequential favorites).

Yet here was this bombastic Manhattan real estate tycoon / reality TV host with no apparent conservative bona fides thinking he could waltz into the fray – by way of his own escalator, no less – and upset the entire Republican apple cart. I was furious.

Of course, Trump immediately dominated the Republican field. Primary voters across the country loved him. As a still-believing neoconservative I just didn’t get it. Why was this seemingly shallow and sometimes outright obnoxious guy resonating with so many people? What was his appeal? Even my beloved relatives in New Jersey (where I now live) adored Trump; they had his life-size standee in the family room.

Trump quickly ran away with the nomination. It was unsettling and confusing.

By November 2016 – after much angst and soul-searching – I was emotionally and intellectually prepared to vote for Trump. I wasn’t entirely sure what we’d be getting but I agreed with most of what he said and, compared to the corrupt and mendacious Hillary Clinton, it really wasn’t a tough choice. In any event, like most Americans I still believed Democrat-biased polls so was convinced Trump would lose to Clinton (and he certainly would be trounced in my then home state of California).

Then the impossible happened: Trump won. I was ecstatic! And deeply grateful. Hillary Clinton would not be President after all; Donald Trump had saved our country from the abyss. God bless him. …

REED COOPER: We’re Witnessing A Repeat Of 2016 And Trump Is Set To Win By A Landslide

The phrase “history repeats itself” is once again proving to be true as we witness the mainstream media, the establishment, and the RINOs attack and doubt leading 2024 presidential candidate and 45th President Donald Trump’s chances of winning the election, just like they did in 2016.

Like in 2015 and 2016, Trump has once again become a runaway Trump train in the GOP primary, beating all candidates by over 50 and even 60 points in polls.

Not only has history repeated itself in the form of Trump winning polls by landslides, either. Once again, RINO influencers and talking heads have begun attacking Trump - an action they will soon pretend never happened.

In February 2016, for example, Editor emeritus of the Daily Wire, Ben Shapiro, slammed Trump as a “liar” and a “spoiled brat who grew up in the lap of luxury, had his daddy sign his checks, and bragged about how he is a huge winner.”

Interestingly enough, Shapiro magically changed his tune on Trump once he won the 2016 presidential election, even “Don-ing” Trump’s famous “Make America Great Again” hat in a video praising Trump posted a year after Shapiro’s anti-Trump video.

On Monday, absentee Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) War Room account shared a clip of Shapiro “ripping” Trump, calling him “not pro-life.”

Trump, of course, is the most pro-life president in history due to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, becoming the first president to ever speak at the March For Life, blocking funding for Planned Parenthood, among many other pro-life actions.

Old 2016 faces like failed New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) have returned as well - once again as a presidential candidate who is polling at an unimpressive 3.1 percent.

In 2015 and 2016, Jeb Bush, who soon became “Low Energy Jeb,” was the chosen candidate of the establishment Republicans and quickly lost to Trump.

The establishment Republicans have chosen yet another boring candidate in need of a personality transplant for the 2024 presidential election. Absentee Governor Ron DeSantis, like Jeb Bush before him, is failing badly to Trump in all of the polls.

As we learned in 2016, no matter what they throw at President Trump, he only grows stronger.

Luckily for Trump, he faces President Joe Biden, an even weaker and more decrepit candidate than Hillary Clinton.

What's different from 2016, though, is Americans are concerned that what happened in the 2020 presidential election may happen again. A recent Rasmussen poll revealed that 81 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of Democrats, and 56 percent of independent voters are concerned their election results aren’t accurate. Overall, 62 percent of Georgia voters said they are concerned the election results aren’t accurate and 38 percent are very concerned.

On Friday, Reuters and Ipsos released a 2024 presidential election poll between President Trump and President Joe Biden and, according to the poll, Trump will win the election in an electoral landslide.

The poll spelled doom for Biden as it showed Trump leading him in all of the seven most crucial states that determined the 2020 presidential election - Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada, North Carolina, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

In all seven states, Trump crushed Biden by six points, with 41 percent to Biden’s 35 percent, and a remaining undecided 24 percent. If all the other states remain the same in the 2024 presidential election, Trump would receive 312 electoral votes, 42 more electoral votes than the 270 he needs to win. Biden would receive only 226 electoral votes.

During Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Ottawa on Friday, MPs including Prime Minister Trudeau and Rota, honoured 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka in the House of Commons.

Several Jewish advocacy organizations are condemning members of Parliament for giving a standing ovation to a man who fought for the Nazis.

Hunka was invited by Speaker Anthony Rota, who introduced him as a war hero who fought for the First Ukrainian Division.

However, that Ukrainian division was also known as the Waffen-SS Galicia Division, a voluntary unit that was under the command of the Nazis.

"We have in the chamber today Ukrainian war veteran from the Second World War who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians and continues to support the troops today even at his age of 98," Rota read on Friday to a wave of applause.

His name is Yaroslav Hunka but I am very proud to say he is from North Bay and from my riding of Nipissing-Timiskaming. He is a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero, and we thank him for all his service," Rota continued.

Advocacy group Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center issued a statement today saying it's deeply disturbed that Hunka was invited and says an apology is owed to every Holocaust survivor.

They and other groups are also calling for an explanation for why the invite was extended in the first place.

Vaccination Offers ‘No Meaningful Protection’ Against Long COVID: Study

Findings in a new study challenge the mainstream narrative that COVID-19 vaccinations prevent long COVID. The study found that while previous infections reduce the risk of long COVID by 86 percent, vaccination status prior to COVID infection is irrelevant to a person’s risk of developing long COVID.

“The notion had been that both previous infection as well as vaccination reduce the chances of subsequent long COVID should you become infected,” Dr. William Schaffner, professor of preventive medicine and health policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told The Epoch Times.

These investigators have poured “cool water” on that concept, he continued.

Researchers from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, an over-500-year-old research university in Germany, found that people with the highest risk of long COVID or post-COVID condition, as the authors wrote, were unvaccinated people infected with the Wuhan variant, followed by unvaccinated and vaccinated participants infected with the alpha variant.

While not explicitly discussed in the study, the study’s diagram and supplementary tables showed that with the exception of infection with the Wuhan variant, unvaccinated people tend to have a slightly lower risk of long COVID than their vaccinated counterparts.

Furthermore, unvaccinated people infected with the omicron variant had the lowest risk of long COVID.

“Vaccination offered no meaningful protection against developing PCC [post-COVID condition] in case of an infection. In contrast, there was … strong evidence that a previous infection reduced the risk of PCC,” the authors wrote.

Based on Online Questionnaire

Nearly 49,000 people in the German population responded to the survey. Participants were recruited through postal mail. They were then asked to fill out an online questionnaire that included a list of symptoms.

Participants self-reported if they tested positive for COVID-19 and the symptoms they experienced afterward.

The study authors asked for symptoms present from the four- to 12-week post-infection window and for symptoms that persisted after the 12th week. Symptoms that did not persist beyond that were not deemed as long COVID.

Depending on the date of infection, the authors categorized the participant as being infected by the dominant variant at the time.

“We categorized infections before January 1, 2021 as caused by the Wildtype (Wuhan) variant, infections between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021 as caused by the Alpha variant, infections between July 1, 2021 and December 20, 2021 as caused by the Delta variant, and infections from December 21, 2021 as caused by the Omicron variant,” the authors wrote.

Of all the surveyed people, around 17,000 had at least one COVID-19 infection, with around 2,800 reporting long-COVID symptoms.

None of the participants in the study was physically examined nor did they present lab tests on their health.

Doctors are engaged in a debate over the study’s findings and its methodology.

Many were concerned that the questionnaire was too subjective. Like many large population-based studies, the findings are provocative, “but they’re often not definitive. You have to do other follow-up studies, many of which are much smaller but much more precise, and they eliminate a lot of the uncertainty,” Dr. Schaffner said.

Dr. Cody Meissner, a professor of pediatrics at the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, argued that the study’s participant is “so heterogeneous” and that he is not sure what to conclude from the study.

As the study authors admit, none of the participants was given an actual diagnosis of long COVID nor tested for comorbidities. It is possible that any of the patients could have been suffering from another disease that may have been unrelated to COVID-19.

Long COVID Is Hard to Define

Another major problem plaguing long-COVID research is that everyone has a different definition of long COVID.

Vaccination Offers ‘No Meaningful Protection’ Against Long COVID: Study

Findings in a new study challenge the mainstream narrative that COVID-19 vaccinations prevent long COVID. The study found that while previous infections reduce the risk of long COVID by 86 percent, vaccination status prior to COVID infection is irrelevant to a person’s risk of developing long COVID.

“The notion had been that both previous infection as well as vaccination reduce the chances of subsequent long COVID should you become infected,” Dr. William Schaffner, professor of preventive medicine and health policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told The Epoch Times.

These investigators have poured “cool water” on that concept, he continued.

Researchers from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, an over-500-year-old research university in Germany, found that people with the highest risk of long COVID or post-COVID condition, as the authors wrote, were unvaccinated people infected with the Wuhan variant, followed by unvaccinated and vaccinated participants infected with the alpha variant.

While not explicitly discussed in the study, the study’s diagram and supplementary tables showed that with the exception of infection with the Wuhan variant, unvaccinated people tend to have a slightly lower risk of long COVID than their vaccinated counterparts.

Furthermore, unvaccinated people infected with the omicron variant had the lowest risk of long COVID.

“Vaccination offered no meaningful protection against developing PCC [post-COVID condition] in case of an infection. In contrast, there was … strong evidence that a previous infection reduced the risk of PCC,” the authors wrote.

Based on Online Questionnaire

Nearly 49,000 people in the German population responded to the survey. Participants were recruited through postal mail. They were then asked to fill out an online questionnaire that included a list of symptoms.

Participants self-reported if they tested positive for COVID-19 and the symptoms they experienced afterward.

The study authors asked for symptoms present from the four- to 12-week post-infection window and for symptoms that persisted after the 12th week. Symptoms that did not persist beyond that were not deemed as long COVID.

Depending on the date of infection, the authors categorized the participant as being infected by the dominant variant at the time.

“We categorized infections before January 1, 2021 as caused by the Wildtype (Wuhan) variant, infections between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021 as caused by the Alpha variant, infections between July 1, 2021 and December 20, 2021 as caused by the Delta variant, and infections from December 21, 2021 as caused by the Omicron variant,” the authors wrote.

Of all the surveyed people, around 17,000 had at least one COVID-19 infection, with around 2,800 reporting long-COVID symptoms.

None of the participants in the study was physically examined nor did they present lab tests on their health.

Doctors are engaged in a debate over the study’s findings and its methodology.

Many were concerned that the questionnaire was too subjective. Like many large population-based studies, the findings are provocative, “but they’re often not definitive. You have to do other follow-up studies, many of which are much smaller but much more precise, and they eliminate a lot of the uncertainty,” Dr. Schaffner said.

Dr. Cody Meissner, a professor of pediatrics at the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, argued that the study’s participant is “so heterogeneous” and that he is not sure what to conclude from the study.

As the study authors admit, none of the participants was given an actual diagnosis of long COVID nor tested for comorbidities. It is possible that any of the patients could have been suffering from another disease that may have been unrelated to COVID-19.

Long COVID Is Hard to Define

Another major problem plaguing long-COVID research is that everyone has a different definition of long COVID.
