The brutal mobilization by Ukrainian military recruitment officers of young men has been occurring for a year and a half now, Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet reports.

“Many conscripted men are taken straight off the street by uniformed men,” it states. “Most recently in Subcarpathia, a surveillance camera recorded the overreach of the authorities as a man trying to go to a store was kidnapped from his bicycle in broad daylight.”

The man was abducted right on a street during the day by police and conscription officers in a small village in the Municipal District of Munkács, with his bicycle left in the road.

Suspected Netflix Serial Killer Arrested – Rex Heuermann, Police Had Reportedly Been Eyeing Him for a Year

In the end, it was a pizza crust that led to the suspect’s arrest.

A 59-year-old architect was taken into custody Thursday night in connection with a series of murders on Long Island, according to The Associated Press.

The man, identified as Rex Heuermann, was caught after detectives “recovered his DNA from pizza crust in a box that he discarded in a Manhattan trash can and matched it to a hair found on a restraint used in the killings,” the AP reported.

The New York Post reported that Heuermann has been a person of interest for over a year.

Investigators have worked for more than a decade to solve the killings, dubbed the Gilgo Beach murders after the area where the victims’ remains were discovered.

The burlap-wrapped bodies of four women were found in 2010. They were identified as Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; Amber Lynn Costello, 27; and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25.

“By spring 2011, that number had climbed to 10 sets of human remains,” the AP reported. They included the bodies of eight women, one man and one toddler.

“Investigators have said several times over the years that it is unlikely one person killed all the victims,” the Post reported.

The sensational unsolved murder case was the subject of the 2020 Netflix film “Lost Girls.”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul responded to the news of Heuermann’s arrest on Twitter.

“For decades, Long Islanders have lived in fear of the Gilgo Beach killer,” she said. “Today, thanks to the hard work of [the New York State Police] & local law enforcement, a suspect is in custody.

“This is a remarkable day for the victims’ families & all New Yorkers who can sleep a little easier tonight.”

Heuermann’s neighbors had varying responses to media queries about him.

“He seemed like a regular neighbor,” Barry Auslander, 72, told the New York Post. “I never thought he was anything but a businessman, average guy who had a family and went to work.”

Another neighbor, however, complained that Heuermann’s house “sticks out like a sore thumb” because it is in disrepair.

“It was very creepy,” said Gabriella Libardi, 24, according to Spectrum News NY1. “I wouldn’t send my child there.”

Heuermann’s lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, the AP reported. Heuermann is being held in jail without bail.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) oversight hearing on July 13 was quite the spectacle. Typically, these congressional events are hebetudinous affairs, but both sides of the aisle put together several hours of entertainment for viewers. Democrats accused their opponents of racism. Republicans called FTC Chair Lina Khan “a bully” and “a disaster.” The agency chief evaded questions, stuck to talking points, and concealed the entity’s true motives. For concerned citizens who tuned in, they might have regretted not warming up the popcorn.

Webb's First Deep Field

This stunning infrared image was released one year ago as the James Webb Space Telescope began its exploration of the cosmos. The view of the early Universe toward the southern constellation Volans was achieved in 12.5 hours of exposure with Webb's NIRCam instrument. Of course the stars with six spikes are well within our own Milky Way. Their diffraction pattern is characteristic of Webb's 18 hexagonal mirror segments operating together as a single 6.5 meter diameter primary mirror. The thousands of galaxies flooding the field of view are members of the distant galaxy cluster SMACS0723-73, some 4.6 billion light-years away. Luminous arcs that seem to infest the deep field are even more distant galaxies though. Their images are distorted and magnified by the dark matter dominated mass of the galaxy cluster, an effect known as gravitational lensing. Analyzing light from two separate arcs below the bright spiky star, Webb's NIRISS instrument indicates the arcs are both images of the same background galaxy. And that galaxy's light took about 9.5 billion years to reach the James Webb Space Telescope.

Nude Videos of Kids From Hacked Baby Monitors Were Sold on Telegram

An explosive report from IPVM, a surveillance industry trade publication, found that child sexual abuse material sourced from hundreds of hacked Hikvision cameras is being sold on Telegram. The report states that hackers likely gained access to insecure Hikvision cameras by exploiting weak or known passwords, and then used the company’s mobile app to distribute access to the feeds.

IPVM found messages in Telegram channels that advertise access to the hacked cameras using terms like “cp” (child porn), “kids room,” “family room,” and “bedroom of a young girl” to entice potential buyers. Telegram has since taken down the channels, some of which had thousands of members.

Telegram has long been criticized for lax content moderation. In 2021, a nonprofit called the Coalition for a Safer Web sued Apple and demanded that the company remove Telegram from its App Store, citing the app’s failure to remove violent and extremist content.

Hikvision’s response was adversarial. “Hikvision knows nothing about these potential crimes,” the company said in a statement. “IPVM’s selfish decision to seek comment from us prior to alerting authorities is highly questionable and, in this instance, disgraceful.”
