As a lawfag that has dealt with corrupt corporations, etc., (Bear in mind I am not a criminal lawfag), I have come up against corruption in civil cases.

Many people that committed very serious felonies did so knowingly, but were coerced to do so through bribery and blackmail, which made them go along with the corruption.
