Then the other students arrived—the white students. The first day of classes was marked by such gloriously WASPy pomp that it made my young, aspirational heart leap. Professors in academic regalia gave speeches about centuries-old traditions and how wonderful and unique we were—“the best class yet.” Kids sang a cappella and paraded with a marching band. I’d spent my high-school years sneaking out at night to drink 40s on the beach and scheming my way into clubs. I understood that what was happening around me wasn’t exactly cool, but it was special. And I was a part of it.

US Customs and Border Protection officers seized the narcotics Friday at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge, according to a Monday news release. The bridge connects Texas and the Mexican state of Nuevo Laredo over the Rio Grande, just north of Laredo, Texas.

Officers from CBP's Office of Field Operations sent a trailer truck, which claimed to be carrying only baby wipes, for a second inspection. Then, a canine and "non-intrusive" inspection resulted in the discovery of 1,935 packages with around 1,533 pounds of alleged cocaine, says the release.

"This seizure is a prime example of border security management and how it helps prevent dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities," said Alberto Flores, the port director at the Laredo Port of Entry, in the release.

The actor said his dad never hit him, but spanked him once when he caught LaBeouf smoking as a child.

"And the story that gets painted in Honey Boy is, this dude is abusing his kid all the time," he said.

LaBeouf's dad, Jeffrey LaBeouf, is a sex offender who claimed he was blackout drunk during the attempted rape that he was convicted for. He disputed some of the scenes in Honey Boy in an interview in 2019, but said he and his son were on good terms.

The actor himself has made many headlines in the past for disruptive and violent public behavior while intoxicated, as well as various plagiarism scandals. He has also been accused of being violently abusive and controlling by ex-girlfriends. One of his exes, FKA Twigs — they met on the set of Honey Boy — filed a lawsuit in 2020 alleging that LaBeouf was physically and emotionally abusive when they were together, and that he had knowingly infected her with an STD. A trial has been set for April 2023.

LaBeouf said at the time that "many of these allegations" were not true, but did not specify which. He addressed the accusations on Bernthal's podcast, and said that he "hurt a lot of people."

"I hurt that woman," LaBeouf said, without naming anyone. "And in the process of doing that, I hurt many other people, and many other people before that woman."

He also said it was "manipulative" of him to never tell his "sexual partners about getting cold sores."

LaBeouf was recently embroiled in the drama surrounding the movie Don't Worry Darling, in which he was cast as the lead before the abuse allegations in the lawsuit surfaced. It was reported that he dropped out of the film early on due to an apparent scheduling conflict, but director Olivia Wilde later said she fired him because of his "combative energy" and that she wanted to protect the leading actor in the film, Florence Pugh, whom he would have played alongside with.

The actor denied Wilde's account of events in an email to Variety, claiming there was indeed a scheduling conflict and he was not fired.

"I know that you are beginning your press run for [Don't Worry Darling] and that the news of my firing is attractive clickbait, as I am still persona-non-grata and may remain as such for the rest of my life," he wrote. "Firing me never took place, Olivia. And while I fully understand the attractiveness of pushing that story because of the current social landscape, the social currency that brings. It is not the truth."

Google is blocking Trump’s Truth Social app for “insufficient content moderation

Google is preventing former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social app from going live in its Google Play Android app store and has cited “insufficient content moderation” as the reason for the holdup.

A Google spokesperson told Axios (https://www.axios.com/2022/08/30/trump-truth-social-google-android-moderation): “On Aug. 19, we notified Truth Social of several violations of standard policies in their current app submission and reiterated that having effective systems for moderating user-generated content is a condition of our terms of service for any app to go live on Google Play.”

A source that spoke to Axios added that Google’s concerns are related to “physical threats and incitements to violence.”

In the United States 49% of smartphones run on the Android operating system and there are an estimated 133 million android users in the United States.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Sheldon and Miriam Adelson plan to spend $100 million on electing Republicans and re-electing US President Donald Trump.

The Guardian on Monday quoted three Republican fundraisers that it did not name as saying that the couple, known for their generosity to Republicans, pro-Israel causes and medical research, was ready to spend nearly the same amount, $124 million, as they did in the 2016 cycle. One of the Guardian’s sources said it could reach $200 million.

Sheldon Adelson is a casino magnate and Miriam Adelson is a physician and medical researcher. The Guardian said most of the money would be funneled through political action committees and “dark money” groups that are not required to reveal donors.

The Adelsons did not favor Trump in the 2016 cycle until May of that year, something he has teased the couple about now that they are close. A number of Republican Jews were wary of Trump at first because of a confrontation between the candidate and the Republican Jewish Coalition in December 2015, and because he originally would not commit to moving the embassy to Jerusalem.

As president, however, Trump has delivered on Israel-related issues favored by the Adelsons to a greater degree than any of his White House predecessors. He has moved the embassy to Jerusalem, cut virtually all funding to the Palestinians, recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal and advanced a peace plan that would allow Israel to annex nearly a third of the West Bank.
