FDA Warns Puberty-Blockers May Cause Vision-Loss In Children

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently added a warning to the labeling of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists—also referred to by many as puberty blockers—saying the drugs may cause a series of symptoms in children that include headaches, pressure buildup around the brain, and vision loss.

The warning, announced by the agency on July 1, says there is a risk of pseudotumor cerebri in children who take GnRH agonists.

Pseudotumor cerebri, or idiopathic intracranial hypertension, is when the fluid around the brain and spinal cord builds up in the skull for no obvious reason, causing high pressure that affects the brain the nerve in the back of the eye, the optic nerve.

“The new warning includes recommendations to monitor patients taking GnRH agonists for signs and symptoms of pseudotumor cerebri, including headache, papilledema, blurred or loss of vision, diplopia, pain behind the eye or pain with eye movement, tinnitus, dizziness and nausea,” the FDA announced.

GnRH agonists stop the production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone that are involved in the physical changes a person undergoes during puberty. They are FDA-approved for the treatment of central precocious puberty—a condition where children experience premature puberty: in girls, this is before age 8, and in boys, before age 9.

GnRH agonists are also used to treat other conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, precocious puberty, and infertility.

The class of drugs is also being used off-label by some medical practitioners who prescribe them to children who experience gender dysphoria. The drugs can only be prescribed to children under 18 if the parents or guardians consent to the approach. Off-label means that GnRH agonists have not been approved by the FDA for this purpose.

GnRH agonists products include Lupron Depot-Ped (leuprolide acetate), Fensolvi (leuprolide acetate), Synarel (nafarelin), Supprelin LA (histrelin), and Triptodur (triptorelin).

‘Plausible Association’

The FDA had identified six cases that “supported a plausible association between GnRH agonist use and pseudotumor cerebri,” it said. The cases were identified via a risk assessment that included reviewing safety data submitted by GnRH agonists manufacturers, searching the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System, and conducting a literature search.

“Six cases were identified that supported a plausible association between GnRH agonist use and pseudotumor cerebri. All six cases were reported in birth-assigned females ages 5 to 12 years,” the FDA stated.

“Five were undergoing treatment for central precocious puberty and one for transgender care,” the agency said. “The onset of pseudotumor cerebri symptoms ranged from three to 240 days after GnRH agonist initiation.”

Of the six cases, five experienced visual disturbances, five experienced headache or vomiting, three had papilledema (swelling of the optic nerve), one had blood pressure increase, and one had weakness in a nerve responsible for eye movement.

San Francisco Declares State of Emergency Over Monkeypox

San Francisco on Thursday declared a state of emergency over monkeypox.

The mayor of San Francisco declared a state of emergency after the city reported 261 cases of monkeypox.

The emergency declaration will take effect on Monday.

SF Gate reported:

The mayor of San Francisco announced a legal state of emergency Thursday over the growing number of monkeypox cases, allowing officials to mobilize personnel and resources and cut through red tape to get ahead of a public health crisis reminiscent of the AIDS epidemic that devastated the city.

The declaration, which takes effect Monday, was welcomed by gay advocates who have grown increasingly frustrated by what they called San Francisco’s lackluster response to a virus that so far has affected primarily men who have sex with men, although anyone can get infected.

The city has 261 cases, out of about 800 in California and 4,600 nationwide, according to the San Francisco Department of Public Health. A national shortage of vaccine has resulted in people waiting in line for hours for scarce doses, often to be turned away when the shots run out.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed on Friday the first two U.S. cases of monkeypox in children, both adjacent to the gay community.

In a statement, the agency said that both cases are “likely the result of household transmission” and “had no contact with each other.”

“One is a toddler who lives in California, and the other is an infant who is not a resident of the U.S. and was “transiting through” the Washington, D.C. area when the test was done,” as reported by CBS News.

According to CDC, “young children (<8 years of age), individuals who are pregnant or immunocompromised, and individuals with a history of atopic dermatitis or eczema may be at especially increased risk for severe outcomes from monkeypox disease.”

It is still unknown how these children became infected with monkeypox, a disease that is most commonly transferred among gay men.

Per CDC, monkeypox is transmitted by symptomatic individuals through close contact with lesions, bodily fluids, or respiratory secretions and objects that have had contact with lesion crusts or bodily fluids, face-to-face contact, or during intimate physical contact, such as kissing, cuddling, or sex.

“Do You Guys Call Joe Biden ‘The Big Guy’ at the Department of Justice?” – Matt Gaetz GRILLS Senior DOJ Official About Whistleblower Allegations That FBI Covered Up Hunter Biden’s Crimes

Following Grassley’s reveal, Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) found a chance to demand some answers from senior officials within the Department of Justice when they appeared on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.

In light of the damning new whistleblower evidence, Gaetz grilled the head of Biden’s National Security Division – Matthew G. Olson – about how Hunter Biden and his criminal escapades are nothing short of a massive “National Security threat.”

However, Olson refused to admit that was the case, claiming that he does not comment on whether or not specific individuals would qualify under that distinction.

After shamelessly trying to dodge a simple question, Olson begins the runaround.

Gaetz: “Is Hunter Biden a national security threat?”

Olson: “That’s not a question that would come up before me.”

Gaetz: “You’re the head of the national security division, so it seems sort of on the nose.”

Olson: “It’s not in my practice or experience to identify individuals and label any individuals or American citizen a national security threat.”

Gaetz: “Well you would certainly concede that if the adult offspring of the President of the United States or the Vice President were compromised- that would be a notional security threat. Right?”

Olson: “We speak through our filings in court… um… and we speak through our actions in open court.”

After getting nowhere with this line of questioning, Gaetz presses Olson about the DOJ’s knowledge of, and potential involvement in, the FBI’s alleged cover-up of Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Unsurprisingly, the defiant senior official stonewalled Gaetz, refusing to answer by invoking his right to not comment on a “potential ongoing investigation,” even when confronted with specific examples of Hunter’s crimes.

Olson also refused to comment on whether or not the DOJ still had possession of the laptop.

In other words, the whistleblower account seems more accurate by the second as Olson provides a perfect example of the Feds continuing to cover for the Biden Crime Family.

Fed up with the senior spook’s lack of cooperation, Gaetz asks what only seems obvious at this point: “Do you guys [also] call Joe Biden ‘The Big Guy’ at the Department of Justice?”

Rep. Austin Scott sounds alarm on China buying U.S. farmland

Georgia Republican Rep. Austin Scott on Thursday warned about Chinese state-backed efforts to purchase farmland in the United States amid rising tensions with the oriental superpower over its economic practices and territorial claims in in the Pacific Rim.

Speaking on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast, Scott warned of the dangers of foreign ownership of the nation's food supply and predicted bipartisan efforts to curb China's purchases.

"[I[f you control the land, you control the food supply. And if you look at what China has done since the invasion of Ukraine, China, it says they're not going to allow exports of rice and other products that they grow in their country," he said. "And now, you know, they're buying farmland inside the United States. This is something that we should have acted sooner than we have on this."

"But we certainly don't need our adversaries, buying up the cropland inside the United States and, outside of cropland, they do try to buy land close to our military bases," he noted. "That's, you know, obviously, for spying and for no purpose that is in the best interest of the United States. But we're gonna have to reassess what is happening with these countries like Communist China buying land inside the United States."

Scott told host John Solomon that the first step in addressing the issue is to "raise awareness at the national level." He noted "the states can also restrict the ability to purchase property inside their states and some states have actually moved to restrict corporate ownership of farmland."

The Georgia Republican went on to insist that Beijing's efforts could only be nefarious in nature, saying "these people are not our friends, they are our enemies. And it is Communist China, it is a country that does not believe in human rights. They certainly don't care about the United States of America or our citizens."

"And so the issue of them buying land is is about their ability to control food supply," he continued. "This is something we can't allow to happen. And I do think that we will get to a bipartisan resolution on this."

He then changed gears to address the Chinese goverment's warnings against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's intended visit to Taiwan, asserting that Pelosi should go in spite of Beijing's objections. "China does not get to tell the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives where they can and cannot fly unless it is inside the territory of Communist China," he said.

Deadly explosion rocks Rio de Janeiro gas station

An explosion rocked a Rio de Janeiro gas station on July 26th. Security footage shows Mario Magalhaes de Penha, 67, opening the trunk of his car after filling it with gas, and moments later, his car exploding. De Penha’s car was destroyed in the blast, which also knocked him backwards, leaving him motionless on the ground.

According to officials, de Penha was taken to Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital afterwards. Local news media has since reported that he passed away due to his injuries. A passerby was also injured in the blast and taken to Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital. It has since been reported that she was discharged on the same day.

L.A. County Backs Down, Cancels Return to Mask Mandates as COVID Hospitalizations Fall

Los Angeles County will not re-impose a mask mandate, as it had threatened to do, because coronavirus cases began to fall and the hospitalization rate fell below the threshold of ten cases per 100,000 residents, public health officials said Thursday.

As Breitbart News reported earlier in July, the county reached the threshold for “high” community levels of COVID-19, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), beginning a two-week countdown to new mask mandates.

But local businesses protested loudly, and city governments in El Segundo, Beverly Hills, Long Beach, and Pasadena announced that they would not comply with any renewal of the mask mandates by the county.

L.A. County public health director Barbara Ferrer said in a briefing Thursday that cases had been declining for five days, since July 23, and that hospitalizations were also declining. She said the decline in hospitalizations is expected to continue.

Ferrer said that given the lag in CDC data on local hospitalizations, which only runs through July 25, local officials decided to use local data, which was one day more recent. That data indicated a hospitalization rate of 9.7 per 100,000, she said.

“While we don’t yet know what CDC will post with their update today, including their most redact hospital admission data, … when we use the L.A. County data, we are moving from high community level to medium community level,” she explained.

While the community’s designation would not be changed officially to “medium,” she said, county officials were hopeful that the hospitalization rate would remain below 10 per 100,000, and had decided not to impose “universal indoor masking.”
